No one knew exactly when the virus changed all that we knew was that it went airborne...all hell broke loose. There was no escape for the elderly, young, healthy, sick, smart or dumb....It simplyed killed. We thought it was a cure, we found the one way to destroy the monster within our populace. With the fruits of a cure, there were a few bad apples. These things that came at the end of day and rose in the darkness. Consumed by anger to anyone and everything, we had almost no defense. I have come to believe that god dosnt exist, only that if there is someone out there I may meet them. For the past two years I have been fighting to survive, to my name I have a house in the woods up north. There were never that many people up here, its been easier to survive. If there is anyone out there that finds this message, I might be dead. My name is Kash Wilson and I am immune....

" Damn, I didnt realize how much i could eat in a couple years." Kash said quitely to himself as he looked upon the grocery store which used to be full, now it was mostly empty. The reasons behind this were looting during the crisis, those things breaking in, and animals which included himself. He went outside, his fingerless gloves closed the door to the store "no more point in raiding that place" he thought to himself as the sunshine hit his face. He winced in the suns beams, as he looked at the town which used to be his home, well it still was...just quieter. The engine started up and he was one his way home...

The door opened, it was a relativley small house, similar to a cabin in style. He opend the door and shut the drapes and darkened the house down, the only light availible was the fireplace. Kash sat in a lazy boy which he had taken a liking to since he moved in without the owners conset " No matter" he thought, the owner was dead, for he had buryed him with his own two hands. His eyes shined down in the fire light at the plate of food in his hand, venisen stew, it was pretty good. Not much there, deer, potatoes, carrots, some celery and a broth. Kash's hand rested on the wooden 12 gauge shotgun next to his chair. Indeed the weapon was his only freind, although from his observation dogs were immune to the airborne but not the contact. This puzzled him, why were they "all" immune to the airborn, he wasnt a scientist so he didnt tamper with the idea. Most of the news he had recieved was from the last broadcasts, but those were years old. He looked at his watch, Kash's watch was a digital.

The alarm went off and Kash awoke in his chair, his head was leaning back, so he snapped forward, giving him a nasty head rush. He opend the windows to let the light in, squinting his eyes he continued throughout the house.
10:00 AM
The day was rather hot he thought as he walked down the wooden stairs that creaked, dust particles shown in the daylight and the sound of birds was wild. Kash's boots made crunching noises of the gravel below his feet as his got in his black jeep wrangler, it had been fixed up with UV lights and other attachments he found neccessary. The shotgun was tossed to the other seat as he slammed the door shut, leaving the house in the dust.
Somewhere unknown
James woke up with a start, the alarm showed 10:00 AM. He was dreaming about the day the city was hit with the infection. He watched his family die. He also had to fight his way through the "dark creatures" he called them, to get to a fort and salvage some shotguns and ammunition there. Day after day, he tried to fix the radio, but he was marine, not an engineer. He got into his SUV and drove through the deserted neighborhood.

A flutter of doves startled Tom awake. It had been a rough night sleeping on the roof of the convenience store, but it had been the only refuge he could reach last night. The infected had been especially close to getting him last night, as evidenced by the seven inch long gash across Tom's left forearm. Wincing as he inspected it, he decided that he would need to search the convenience store beneath him for some first aid supplies.
He wearily took his M4A1 in hand and had a peak at the magazine. It was his last magazine, and it only had 12 shots left. Ammunition was becoming increasingly difficult to find these days.
Still groggy, he descended into the convenience store from the roof. He knew there had been infected nearby last night, but the rays of the sun pouring in through the windows reassured him that he was safe for the time being. Catching sight of some first aid supplies, he quickly and rather sloppily bandaged his wound from the previous night. "Ah, Christ." he whispered to himself, bearing the sharp sting from the previously untreated injury as he applied the bandage.
Next he turned his attention to gathering food. He filled his backpack with canned goods and other non-perishable food stuffs. He then ate as much as he could hold, not knowing when he would have another chance to resupply. Lastly, he checked beneath the clerk's cash register for weapons. There were no guns, but there were three magazines of 9mm pistol rounds. Accepting these, he pushed them into his pockets. It would give him a few extra minutes in a fight at least.
He was turning to leave the shop when something caught his eye. There was a radio, and strangely enough, it was on. It was solar powered, and had turned on automatically when the solar panels caught the rays of the rising morning sun. Disheartened by the static he heard, he began randomly changing the frequency. It was a habit he had been trying to break. Listening to the demoralizing silence of the radio always made him depressed. However, this time he found what sounded like an automated message from someone named Kash Wilson.
This new development peaked Tom's interest. Where was this Kash? Was he still alive or was this just an automated message left by someone long dead? Another echo of the past he had left behind...

18 MILES AWAY:MOUNTAIN RANCH
WOODS
12:00 PM
The sun was still beating down, and had about reached its peak of boiling. The sound of smoke and fire sounded as the pellets split into deer. A shell dropped onto the ground, leaking a small cloud of smoke. Kash dragged the deer back to his jeep and attached it to the hood, rather crude, but it worked. He could always clean the blood off the hood later, he would just stop by the abonded grocery store and pick up some canned goods and have himself a picnic by 4:00 PM at latest, the jeep hummed away, a sign that humanity was not quite done yet...
James was in the his SUV driving through the city. The car radio was broken and he also tried to fix his laptop, but that wasn't much use. He had his Remington 1100 and a Glock in the SUV. he was going deer hunting.

The jeep hummed to a slow stop on the top of a grass hill, this area was the foothills. He got out and set up a small picnic for himself, something he had been doing often these days, he always had a radio with him, which he would turn on and let the static play for awhile. He chewed an apple before throwing it into the bushes. He wiped the sweet juice off his chin with his sleeve. His atire was somewhat odd, green camoflauge pants, fingerless gloves, combat boots, and black combat vest with a olive green tank top underneath, it exposed his muscular arms to the sunlight. He forgot exactly how long he had been at this, but it was habit as of late, he reached at the mic and brought it to his mouth.
" My name is Kash Wilson, I'm located in San Andreas California, I have a house and I am armed. My home contains enough food and water for months, I can offer refuge to any survivors out there, meet me at the ridge overseeing the grocery store at 2:30 PM everyday."
He looked at his watch, then back into the valley, it was beutifal. This world almost seemed better without humanity currupting and scaring her skin...

After listening to the radio for several minutes, Tom begrudgingly realized that the message was nothing more than a recording. Shaking his head in disappointment, he gathered his items together and headed out onto the street. The streets here were less cluttered than in the city. He was in New Jersey across the water from New York City. The convenience store was barely larger than its accompanying gas station.
Tom rubbed his head as if it pained him. The memory of last night was beginning to return to him. He had tried to drown the memory with vodka, but the hangover was starting to dissipate. He remembered how he had been watching movies in his "fort," as he called his home, when infected breached his defenses. He barely had time to grab a gun and a backpack and still escape with his life. There could be no going back to New York now. He had worked too hard to build the fortress to start over now. He had go somewhere else.
"Where to go?" he said to himself out loud, still clenching his forehead. "How about some place warm. I can head south, staying near the coast. When I get to Florida I'll kill every infected I find and just live out the years in blissful happiness."
The thought seemed to amuse him. He began laughing loudly. Maybe the vodka was still in his system after all. Tom saw a rather sporty looking coupe at the gas station and had a look inside. The keys were in the ignition and he quickly was able to pick the door lock.
In no time he was cruising southbound down the highway, away from the disaster that had been New York City.
It wasn't long before he found what he had been keeping an eye out for: a military base. It was a small one, just a minor national guard recruiting center, but it had much-needed ammunition and some extra firearms which Tom threw in the back seat of his newly-acquired car. He also picked up several uniforms and changed into one of them, since his current outfit was soiled and blood-stained.
Having re-armed, he continued down the highway. He would need to cover as much distance as possible before night fell. Then he would have to fortify a temporary base. Abandoned cars, various debris, and cracks in the road, however, made travel slow and laborious.
James moved quietly through the streets. The time showed 4:00 PM. There still was time to head back to his “base”. He found a “herd” deer eating grass in front of the White House. He aimed his shotgun, and fired. One of the deer went down as the rest ran off. James killed it and took it back to “base”.
He put his shotgun with his other weapons. He had a couple of grenades, assault rifles, pistols, sniper rifles, shotguns.

" Should get going soon..." he told himself inside his head. This sight had been his image of rescue and continuing life. Yes, his life did continue, but with no one to be with, his boyfreind was killed by the virus, he could still remember putting a slug into his head. He pulled out a bottle of Jack Daniles and began to party with himself, the sun was failing fast but he didnt care. Kash's mind became as dark as the area around him, he had passed out...
As a former Marine, James could easily cook up a dead deer. He went to his kitchen where his food cabinets were already overflowing with canned food. He opened his bag and took out canned food that he found at a 7-Eleven nearby. He also put away soda that he found. The coke he found was to expire next month according to the tag. better drink it fast he thought.
It was now 5:30 PM. All the doors were shut, and windows were closed, then he pulled steel covers over the doors and windows. Then he went to bed.

Tom noted the sun's position in the sky and confirmed the time with his car's clock radio. It was time to stop. He had made it as far as Philadelphia in one day, not bad considering the driving conditions. Pulling up in front of the library was something he had always wanted to do. He got out of his car and ran up the steps of the library in order to re-enact the scene from "Rocky," but it was a hollow victory with no one to watch.
The coast guard medallion rattled in his pocket, and he pulled it out to look at it. The medallion had belonged to the captain of the coast guard cutter to which Tom had been assigned. They had been at sea when the infection first struck, but they had had to return to land once they ran out of supplies. At that point the crew had all died or been infected and only Tom was left alive.
The memory brought tears to Tom's eyes. It was the first emotion he had felt in a year. It was easier to disconnect oneself from these kind of circumstances. He also remembered his fiance, whom he had never had the chance to marry. She was likely dead now, like everyone else. With a sigh Tom headed into the Philadelphia library and found that it would make an excellent fort for the night, using book cases as barricades.
Having constructed his fort, Tom went out into the city to find a meal. The city was smaller than New York and less messy, but still bore the scars of the infection. Abandoned or burned out cars still littered every street corner, along with bundles of clothing where once living people had stood. And there were the bones. Tom ignored them all, remaining emotionally detached.
While scavenging in the city Tom found a sporting goods store with knives and hunting rifles which he gladly stored in his car. He also found enough food to last him for at least a week. Pleased with his haul, he began heading back to the library. He had made just one mistake: he had begun heading back too late and darkness was beginning to fall.
By the time Tom reached the library it was dark enough for the infected to be out on the streets. Several infected chased him up the "Rocky steps," but Tom won the race to the top, turned, and emptied a magazine from his M4A1 into them. The close range bullets ripped the former humans apart, leaving several bloody heaps sprawled across the steps.
Then he noticed a large group of at least 100 infected gathering at the base of the steps. Tom rushed into the library and turned on the flood lights, surrounding the library in a protective coat of UV-infused light. It would keep the infected away from him tonight.
Next day, James was awake again, at 8AM. He put on a DVD and watched it until 10 AM, then he left the base with a sniper rifle and a shotgun. He got into his SUV and stopped by a gas station and filled up his SUV which took a hour. Then, he headed for one of the Smithsonian museums and hanged around there, looking for anything.
James stopped at a sports store and collected all the ropes there. Then he made a stop by the Pentagon and collected more weapons. E avoided the darker parts of the building because that’s where the infected surely lived.
James decided to have some infected killing time. He took some blood out of the kit he had and put it at a doorway. A minute later a few infected came out of the dark room and he shot them all, one by one.

Kash's eyes darted to his watch, he had a headache, he groaned from the hangover. His eyes immedialty went wide when he realized he had been passed out and it was still rather dark, with only little sunlight seen. His breathing intensified as he threw his raidio into the Jeep, along with his shotgun. He turned on the car and the heater, it was freezing this time of the morning. The radio still played static to his ears, he shut it off as the sound hurt him. The inside glowed a dim red from the car's interior front. Kash's face was barely illuminated as he hugged his shotgun, regaining his calm as he drank from a canteen. " Stay here or go, but don't bring them to the house, you have to wait for morning, how much gas do you have Kash, cmon." he looked at the meter, "shit" he said "25 miles..." he turned on the car, he didnt turn on the UV lights just yet, he would go dark for awhile as to avoid detection...

The large radio mast was hooked up over the Nebraska plans, radio signals carried far and wide, and for the soldiers of the 126 Chemical Battalion of the Nebraska National Guard it was a sign for hope. They spread the signal using older gas powered generators, hoping the night crawlers would leave them alone, to make sure they were often wrapped in razor wire and left in on the few hills around the area west of former Omaha.
"The Answer to infection is here, I repeat, the answer to infection is here. If you can make it to the 23rd Blockade outside of Omaha, hurry. We have found the answer to infection."
The signal was put on loop and sent across the country.
James stopped by the White House. He turned on the lights and checked around the rooms. He found a security guards locker, so he grabbed some rifles out of it. He entered the president's office and thought what it would be like to be president.
He played golf on the lawn in front of the White House. It was 4:30 Pm, so it was time to head home, on the way he picked up some cables and wires from a tool shop.

Tom awoke with the sunlight in his eyes. He checked his watch and was disappointed by the time he saw. "Damn. I overslept." Groggily sitting up, he felt for his M4A1, but could not find it. "What the hell?"
He heard the rifle cock behind his head. "Freeze!" a voice behind him shouted. "Turn around slowly and put your hands behind your head!"
Tom turned around as ordered and saw a large man of African descent in a tattered police uniform holding his M4A1 carbine. "Who are you?"
"Who are you?" the police officer responded. Each man seemed confused about the other. "I didn't think there were any other survivors."
"I didn't think there were any other survivors. My name is Tom, and that's my gun you have there."
"I'm Hendricks, of the Philly police department."
"You are the Philly police department." Tom responded. Though he had never carried a conversation this long for over two years, he still had not lost his sense of humor.
"I thought I was the only one left. I've been living in the city for two years and never saw anyone. Then I heard gunshots last night and saw that the lights of the library were on. As soon as the sun came up, I came over here to investigate. Have you been here this whole time?"
"No, I'm heading south. I came from New York City, but the infected finally drove me out. I was in the coast guard when the virus first appeared."
A rattling in a back room caught the attention of the two men. "There might be one of them in there. It's still dark in parts of the library." Tom suggested.
"I'll take care of it." Hendricks offered. "I lost my sidearm in a fight last month."
"Careful. Give me the gun." Without waiting for an answer Tom grabbed his M4 and popped out the magazine. "It's bloody empty. You don't want to go in there with no ammo. I've got some guns in my car out front. Let's go and I'll give you one."

"The Answer to infection is here, I repeat, the answer to infection is here. If you can make it to the 23rd Blockade outside of Omaha, hurry. We have found the answer to infection."
23rd Blockade
In total it was 12 men from the Nebraska National Guard hiding out in the blockade. As the infection spread west the plans had fought hard and strong against it. By the time Ohio was being overrun NORAD had allowed the launch of nuclear weapons against the monsters. Such targets as St. Louis, Memphis and New Orleans had been hit with the larger ones. Tactical nukes and smaller yeild nukes were used on smaller cities and bridges. The initial idea was to stop them at the Mississippi. The mass of the United States Army met them for the plans wars. It was at that point we realized it was airborne. Crossing the Mississippi with ease and spreading like wildfire, more nukes were launched. The exodus across I-70 was pathetic, Kansas City fell in a week, hordes ran across the open plans and fields, air strikes were great, but the planes still had to land.
In the battle of Omaha the National Guard was to hold the western lines to help the civilians escape across I-80, military trucks filled to brim with families raced passed the 23rd Blockade. As dusk fell the air force began carpet bombing the city, trying to destroy them as they hid in buildings and elsewhere. However as night came they raced to attack the blockades. Most of the Civies escaped, but the blockades were being overrun. Colonel Walter of the 126 Chemical Battalion pulled his men back to the base. Hoping that they could stay covered as the chemical bombs crashed into the masses of night crawlers. It worked, using gas masks they reclaimed the 23rd Blockade. As morning rose they had survived. However they had lost contact with all other military forces. Investigations into the other blockades showed they weren't so lucky. Even the main base fell after they charged back to the blockade. They were cut off. Using the daylight to their advantage they retook the blockades, and the main base, but suffured many casualties. As night came they chemical bombed the city with Tomahawk missiles in the base. Leaving most of the city useless to them. Soon patrols went out looking for food, sometimes they came back, sometimes they didn't.
Now 12 men held the last blockade, knowing that they are behind enemy lines, but also knowing they have cleared the area.
OOC: I hope you don't mind this, I just figured the national Guard would have a better understanding of what happened, if you want me to change anything I will.

In the deeper forests of Maine, a solitary cabin broke the endless sea of green.
This simple cabin, however, was surrounded by 12-foot electric barbed wire fences, with the exception of a small personal gate at the front. Along with this, UV lights were position one the ground around the perimeter of the fence and a small guard tower was built from an old deerstand.
The occupants of this forest fortress, numbered only one. This occupant was citizen 96784 of area 131, formally known as Theodore McCoy, and he was immune.
Ted had survived the virus, and now began to appreciate such loneliness. But, he wasn't going to just wait. He wasn't going to just sit there while the infected starved. He felt a yearning to do something that wasn't for himself, something for mankind.
He felt he could do this by heading to Nebraska, as he had heard the broadcast. He was a Marine Surgeon, so he had some experience in microbiology.
But, this seemed impossible. He could not possibly make it out of state and organize a safe zone for the night before dusk. He was stuck. But not for long.
"Don't scream. Kurt, I found one!" A man with a military rifle shouted as he had his barrel pointed at Ted's face.
"Are you serious? This is, well, pretty much impossible." The so-called Kurt said back.
"Nope. He's clean." The man reassured. "Who the hell are you?" Ted said in a shocked voice. "We're... well, we're friends. And we don't mean no harm. Speaking of which, we want to protect you, which is why you're comin' with us."
Next morning, James did his same routine again, getting food from deserted houses, filling up his SUV with gas, looking for any useful tools. He did find a infected dog in one of the houses and killed it with his shotgun.
James headed for some parts of the city he had never been to. Then there was a gunshot in the distance.
James, surprised, aimed his shotgun at the direction where the sound came from. He got into his SUV and drove toward the sound/
He arrived there and found a dead deer, gunshot wound to the head. He looked around and found a sniper rifle on the ground.
“Don’t move.” Said a voice behind him.
James froze, then he turned around and was relieved to see another person in Washington DC.
“Who are you?” asked James
“I’m Brad, I work as a janitor at a nearby school. I made my home near the school. And you are?”
“James, just call me James. Former marine.”
“Marines are useful.” Said Brad,” Like now for example.”

It seemed like it was taking forever for the sun to bath the landscape, he looked at his watch as he drove...
6:00
His tires screeched as something ran in front of his jeep, it rolled, glass from the light and other items flew from the car as it rolled. There was a terrible screech as the metal side slid on the country road. Kash fell out of his seat as he unbuckled his seat belt, blood trickled down his head as he came back to reality. He quickly grabbed the shotgun, glass cracked as he brought it up to his chest and he crawled out. A drop of some liquid hit him on the head, he slowly turned around and one of the things was about to jump on him. He quickly brought the shotgun up as it landed on the barrel....he squeezed the trigger and all that was left was blood and guts. He got up and began to run towards a gas station, his shoulder felt like it was on fire and he held it as he ran..they were coming.

"Sir the squads in the main base report that they now using satellites to broadcast the signal. We are hoping that someone picks it up. However if a signal is returned the equipment we have here is not enough to pick it up unless it is in radio range. The only radio in the area capable of picking that up is the news station in Omaha."
"Damn, so we have to go into the city to see if anyone responds? How will we get power to it? We need some options. Does anyone have any idea?"
"How about the generators, I am sure an electronics shop would have one."
"Listen up men, what we are about to is crazy. We are down to 12 soldiers here, 10 in the main base, and another 5 on patrol looking for routes that the enemy could attack us with before the sunlight gives us the edge. That is 27 men total. It will be tight and we do need supplies from the city. OK then here is the plan. Tommorow at daybreak we send in two Hummers with empty fuel tanks to load up on gas, with them will be one striker to check out the local home depot for generators. Remember inside will be dark, we will use UV lights and flares. Nothing stupid. Once we get fuel back here then the next day we can load up a team into the Striker and head out to the studio, find a safe way to the top. If it gets dark then get the hell back, if you must camp in the striker. I don't want any causalities on this one. Got me?"
James and Brad headed back to Brad's home in James SUV. Brad brought the dead deer he shoot.
Brad's home was a small 2 floor house, that had steel fences and electric fences.
"You did a good job." said James
"Thanks, I also fixed a radio yesterday, you want to try it out?"
"Sure."
James and Brad recorded a message and sent it out on all frequencies.

"I don't know sir, the army was very good at cutting us off from the east. Not to mention radiation if we do go."
He pulled out a map.
"Let's see, large nuclear detonations in Minneapolis, they were cooked right off the map, I-90 was blown to bits by the airforce, tactile nuke on the eastern shore. Dubuque was a tact nuke, We would take I-80 but that was a stratigic nuke."

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Tom and Hendricks sat in the famous Philadelphia library watching movies as the freshly dead body of an infected person lay numbly behind them. Hendricks had delivered the final blow to that enemy, using a shotgun salvaged from a sporting goods' store. Tom kept his M4A1 slung around his back, though he had no more ammunition for it. He did still however have a 9mm pistol and a hunting rifle from the same sporting goods' store.
"It's nice to waste a day for once. I missed the feeling of total separation from reality." Hendricks said half to himself.
"I know. I haven't seen anybody since...that day." Tom munched down on some popcorn to suppress the memory as the movie rolled on in front of them. "I've been watching my back constantly for two years."
"Listen, Tom." Hendricks answered. "I can't stay in Philly any longer. I've been here for two years and it's brought nothing but pain. You said you were going south. The sooner we leave the sooner we can get there." he grasped his shotgun eagerly.
"We don't need to go just yet..." Tom replied.
1 A.M.
Hendricks was asleep on a sofa. Tom was sprawled across a facing sofa, but his eyes were wide open and he was lost in thought. Suddenly a noise jolted him upright. His hair stood on end and there seemed to be electricity in the air.
The lights outside the library went out...
The infected flooded inside...
"SHIT! WAKE UP HENDRICKS!" Tom grabbed his weapons and then started loading up his gear.
"What is it?" the groggy Hendricks replied, rubbing his eyes. "Why are the lights out?" his eyes widened. "The lights are out!"
The first infected came into view on a lower level. Tom and Hendricks were on the top floor. Tom fired his hunting rifle across the balcony and killed the infected person. He cocked the rifle for another shot and quickly dropped a second infected human. "They're coming in faster than I can shoot them!"
Tom heard Hendricks yell out behind him and a shot rang out. Hendricks was swarmed with the infected. Tom could not save him...
With no options left, Tom hurled his only hand grenade into the group with Hendricks and the infected. Then he jumped over the balcony and ran out to his car.
"Sir, they want to meet us somewhere in the middle."
"I don't think we have the recourses at the moment. Are there even bridges still operational between us and them?"

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Tom sprinted down the "Rocky" steps of the Philadelphia library with the infected close behind. Near the bottom he tripped and landed painfully on his right leg. He quickly turned around from his position on the ground and fired wildly upwards. Several of the infected dropped dead but still others rushed towards him.
Tom struggled to his feet and literally leapt into his car. He dug for the key in his pocket and finally came out with it. The car sputtered alive as the infected humans swarmed around. Frantically Tom shifted the car into reverse and backed over several of the infected. He was about to drive away after shifting into drive when a gunshots rang out and a UV light shown out around the car. The infected scattered.
Hendricks, bloodied and limping, staggered out of the darkness with a UV flashlight. Tom opened the door for him without a word and the two drove off and out of Philadelphia. They would continue south...

Driving down I-5 at 35 sucks, Hugh thinks to himself as he edges into the median to get around another stalled car, all the idiots in the world and I had to get stuck having to get around their mess. noticing the sun starting to go down, he parks his truck next to a semi with it's trailer still intact. "Hope this one's emptyish." Hugh mutters to himself as he cuts the lock on the back with some homemade thermite. "shit" Pulling boxes out one armful at a time, Hugh starts to panick a little, cause sometimes the monsters roam around on the highways at night.soon he's made himself a shelf wide enough to sleep on and runs to the back of his truck, grabbing the sprayer and ruck bag along with his rifle and a homemade 'taleeban special'. Spraying down the skunk and bear musk that he harvested over the past few years, he backs towards the back of the truck, sets his ruck bag in the trailer, then uses a couple guitar strings to pull the doors shut and lock himself in, cause getting out is just a matter of thermite and roof. as insurance he sets up his 'taleeban special in the doorway, then crawls towards the front over all the boxes , pulls his blanket outta his bag and goes to sleep

Hawk was lucky . . .very, very lucky. As an ex member of Cansofcom He had been allowed to have a combined pistol/rifle range in the basement of his house along with plenty of ammo for both. As the virus spread north from the USA he'd had enough warning, barely, to set up for defense. Most of his neighbors hadn't been . . . .as lucky . . . . and he'd had to listen as the screams of those dying from the plague and from those victims who came back. They'd rushed him twice but It wasn't a big city and ten unthinking dead . . . .well, "things", as he thought of them, had stood no chance at all against an expert marksman armed with an XM-29 SABR OICW. He'd found out soon, though, that staying still was a bad Idea and was now on the move in his Black Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Laden down with as much Ammo, Food, Water and fuel as possible. Hawk was now heading South in order too discover whether or not anyone in the states was organizing some sort of resistance. Personally he doubted it but If they weren't . . . .well it was over anyway.

Hugh wakes up the next morning, a little bit dusty and sore but still alive. Crawling to the doors, he flips on his pen light so he can disarm his IED. As he is putting the penlight away, he then realizes how lucky he was to still be alive. The lock hadn't engaged on the trailer doors, and they were just sitting together with a slight gap showing a paper thin line of daylight. Pushing open the doors, he winces at the bright morning light as a slight western breeze blows by, bringing the smell of salt water and dying kelp with it. Sighing as he climbs back in his truck, he starts up and continues south, carefully maneuvering around any vehicles left on the road, looking for any signs of more survivors.

Outskirts of Washington, D.C.
Tom's eyes struggled to stay open. He knew he had to stay awake because he was driving, but he hadn't slept for nearly a day. He tapped the dashboard of the his car, which continued to sputter down the interstate weaving between burned out cars and roadblocks. The gas light was on and Tom didn't know how much longer he could go. Then he caught his first glimpse of Washington, D.C. The gleaming buildings lit up with the sunrise. Just as Tom was about to give a cry of relief, the car's engine died. He was out of gas.
Hendricks was startled awake. "What happened?" the beaten and bloodied police officer asked.
"We're out of gas." Tom replied bluntly.
"How long have I been asleep?" Hendricks asked, rubbing his sore eyes.
"Since Philadelphia. I still don't know how you got out of there alive. I saw you...I saw those things all over you."
"I know. I thought I was a goner. Then you threw that grenade, and they scattered. I picked up my gun and just ran and shot and followed you out to your car. As I was running, I found a UV light and it helped clear the area around the car. Then I-" he drifted asleep for a moment, then woke up again.
"You lost a lot of blood. We have to find a hospital in D.C. I think. But we're walking from here."
"Let's do it then. I can suck it up. I ain't got time to bleed."
Tom helped Hendricks out the car, with as much supplies and weapons as they each could carry, and began the walk towards Washington, D.C. They had about five miles to go, and already the city felt empty.
James and Brad kept watch at the house. Apparently the infected finally attacked the house and were driven away by the mines James collected.

There had even been some propane cylander's with gas in them laying around to grab in one of those padlocked cages out in front. Humming to himself as he kept driving south, Hugh went over a mental checklist of scavanged goods he had: box of road flares (40 count), 3 cases of beef jerky, 5 cases of water, 2 10-gallon propane tanks, 10 carton's of ciggarette's, 50 bic lighters, 4 cans of aerosol lighter fluid and 10 ronsonol zippo fluid's, and straight gold if he ever finds people, 3-24 packs of toilet paper. He even got some multi-vitamins to take so he don't get defecent(spellcheck) in his health.

After spending a night in an old abandoned bank, Hugh, hot wires another truck and continues south, heading for Mexico via the west coast, hoping to find more survivors. Driving the long lonely miles, Hugh starts to reminesce about his ex, and the horror and slaughter that the government he had voted for had helped out, many times inadvertantly. The scream of his wife as a National Guardsman or woman had shot her, just a quick double tap as the crowd had surged forward towards their lines, panic-stricken individuals causing chaos and despair, to create riot conditions in the 100 degree heat, the sight of grimacing faces over his own gun sights after he was drafted into the army, his country finally finding a use for him, and lastly, the despair in his CO's face as a single pistol shot sounded from the captain's tent that final night. Thu-thump, SCREEEEE!!! "GODDAMMIT!!!" Looking in the rear view mirror Hugh sees the dog he had run over on accident, it's service animal vest still on. Slowly, Hugh backs up, carefully lining up the rear tire with it's head, noticing that he had crushed it's lower legs and pelvis already. Then he winces and let's a single tear fall when he crushes it's head beneath the truck's tire, hearing it yelp it's final time. Driving onwards, he wonders if the world will ever recover from the car that just hit it.
