Kikoskriat gains possession of new nation through lucky poker hand
Today, it was officially declared to the world at large that the Metropolis of Kikoskriat has gained possession of an entire nation. The circumstances of the aqquisition originally were not known, but eventually it was revealed that during a high stakes poker game between President Porthos and the former leader of the nation in question, the former prime minister staked the political rulership of his nation, the Free Democracy of Bilwandus, a small forested nation nearby to the bustling Metropolis of Kikoskriat. Apparently, Porthos replied in kind and a political poker hand to end all poker hands ensued. What happened in that hand was unknown, but the end result was that Porthos gained political rulership of the Free Democracy of Bilwandus.
Porthos was said to be 'suprised' at the turn of events. In an interview this morning, he had the following to say, dressed as he always was in a sharp black suit, his hair combed back neatly.
"I honestly did not know what to say," Porthos said, "When he said that raise of the stakes, I thought it simply was a joke and so raised in kind. When I won however, he pulled out a lot of legal paperwork that he must have taken with him to the table and started to ask me to sign on the dotted line! I didn't know what to think, I asked if he was joking. As I read the paperwork, however, it became clear to me that he was very, very serious indeed. I couldn't go back on my word though and I signed it all there and then. Before the waitress came back with drinks we had ordered, I had become a leader of two nations instead of just one," Porthos was then seen to laugh nervously, "I guess it was good that I had an ace-king while he only had a pair of eights. The flop was good to me and I hit a full house. Had he of won, I don't think I would have been saying what I am now today to you all."
The nation was quickly renamed into the Colony of Kikoskriat Holdings as one of the final acts of the former prime minister of that nation. When presented with the news of the loss of political rulership, there was massive celebration on the city streets of the new colony. It is no secret that the five million strong former nation Bilwandus, while being well known for it's world-renown level of political rights - indeed, such level of political rights made the signing over of the political power to Kikoskriat possible and legal - has been poorly managed by many inept political leaders. Income tax is a laughable 5% and what money is earned by the nation was spent two thirds on maintaining law and order and another third on administration. Porthos was sad to declare that the nation has a lot of things wrong with it that need to be solved, including the high unemployment - 8.9% - and the low GDP per capita. Trade between Kikoskriat and the new colonies has already begun and Kikoskriat has begun to sort through the administration of dealing with citizenship and sorting out the meshing of the two nation's laws.
"I am confident that with our nation guiding our new people, we can make our new colony stronger, both in economic force and fairness. While many things currently are different between our nations, I am sure that our new colonies will integrate seemlessly into the Kikoskriat way of life. While I am at the moment both the president of Kikoskriat and the prime minister of the Kikoskriat Holdings, I will broach the idea of running an election for a Kikoskriat representative to run the political side of our new holdings. Of course, if they are happy for me to run both nations, I am more then welcome to do so. It will mean a lot more work, but I hope I can do both my people and my new people proud." Porthos ended the interview.
A survey taken by the people of the residents of the Colony of Kikoskriat Holdings showed that 96.4% of residents were happy with the change of power. 97.1% were happy to be a colony of the Metropolis of Kikoskriat and a similar number were confident that the new political power will bring good changes to their nation.
