Coalition Government collapses amongst rioting

Newly installed Consul William Nately, Liberal MP for Ansby

NYQUIST, LC - For the past month, hundreds of thousands of protestors, united under the banner of the Londinian Front for Democracy, have taken to the streets to protest the corrupt, bureaucratic Londinian National Congress government, a coalition of pre-Vivicide politicians and military officials who took control of Parliament in the chaos following the 2014 Third Freek-Londinian War. Shutting down commerce and transport through the area, and spreading the seeds of discontent throughout the Commonwealth, the demonstrators managed to withstand several brutal attempts by the Consular Guard to dislodge the riots.

Three days ago, the arduous efforts of the Front reaped their rewards when the coalition Consul, Andrew Stark, resigned from office, along with the non-Parliamentary members of his cabinet.

"The actions exhibited by these traitors is, by all means, disgusting," Mr. Stark said scornfully as he embarked on a self-imposed exile in the Alaskan colonies. "It's mob rule, and the only reason I ducked out when I did was to avoid yet another civil war."

With Parliament in disarray, Empress Victoria VI Wellesley imposed an emergency Pragmatic Sanction to restore order and organize an urgent plebiscite to appoint a new consul. Surprising swiftness and orderliness gave way to new elections at every level of government, to eliminate whatever influences the coalition imposed on Londinian governance.

Election results came through late last night, and, surprisingly, the Liberal Party swept away the Socialists in a landside, with the Conservative and Christian Democratic Parties slimly holding on to a third of the Parliamentary seats. Liberal leader William Nately was nominated, and subsequently royally approved, for the consulship, sworn in nought but an hour ago.

"The Commonwealth, now, enters a new era," Consul Nately stated on a telebroadcast to the nation. "And she needs not revolution, but harmony, not discord, but normalcy, not the dramatic, but the dispassionate...I fully intend to maintain the material prosperity of the Commonwealth, while gradually dismantling the atmosphere of militancy and oppression fostered by my predecessor, and may Jupiter grant that the people of this great nation can join together to make British Londinium even greater."

Due to the sudden nature of the election, the political parties were ill-prepared to publish manifestos in time, but a Liberal spokesman has stated that Her Majesty's Government intends on economic reform and a new, more amiable foreign policy.

Office of the Praetor of Vetalia

On behalf of the nation and people of Vetalia I would like to extend formal recognition to the new Londinian government. Our nation has not forgotten the strong ties between our two states, and we are more than willing to work with your people to restore it to the heights of prosperity and power it once knew during the alliance of our states. A new era has begun in both of our countries, and as Praetor I feel it is my duty to ensure that we begin this new era in a way befitting our historical bonds.

The Proconsular Council has already granted supplementary funds for the restoration and expansion of the Londinian Embassy in Vetalia City and its consulates, and we have already begun planning the complete restoration and expansion of our diplomatic facilities in Nyquist. In addition, the Ministry of State has seen to it that our former diplomatic staff begin training a new class of diplomats for representation in your country.

In the future, additional concerns such as the citizenship of our country's Vetalian-Londinian population will be addressed, but for now we wish simply to extend our regards to your new government.

Regards,
Praetor Albert Ekomov

From the Desk of the President of Kikoskriat

We, the people of the Metropolis of Kikoskriat, would like to welcome you to the diplomatic arena and to the wonderful world of diplomacy. Long have you fought for what should be an inherant right for all citizens of this planet and now you finally have those rights which would seem trivial to most but are most important to your people.

We formally recognise your new government as a legitimate authority and extend our warmest welcome to you. With your permission, I am consigning a small portion of aid money to help in the construction of your future administration system for your new democratic government, but you of course are free to spend the money as you wish. As we speak, my own administrators are sorting through the citizenship of the few Londinium-Kikoskriat citizens that reside within our nation.

All that is left for me to say is congratulations. I hope your nation's reign of democracy is long and prosperous.

President of Kikoskriat

Official Telrosian Communique

Greetings to the State of British Londinium,

It is with great dignity and respect that I extend the hand of the Telrosian Republic to the Commonwealth of British Londinium. It is good to know after so much strife and conflict, that your nation has begun anew, a democratic rebirth. We, like the nations of Kikoskriat and Vetalia, give our formal recognition of this government as the rightful government of the Commonwealth. We are sending an aid package of 500 million dollars, medicine and food to your people, as well as a construction of materials such as steel, wood, and the things needed in rebuilding a nation. If possible, we'd like to exchange embassies, so we can build stronger ties, but if its too soon, I understand.

May God smile on you.

Signed,

I and all of Volzgrad would like to extend our congratulations to you and your nation. Today, the Volzgradien government has agreed to have full recognition of you sovereign state. Also, this has a sentimental value to my people because it took decades of political strife and civil war for us to establish a democratic government. To congratulate your victory, we will send 10 tons of black iron, a very rare substance only found in Volzgrad's northern mountains. Finally, I personally will send a Volzgradien honor sword to the royal family.

From the Desk of the Hegemon:

It is with great pleasure that I extend a welcome from the alliance that is the Hegemony to the nation of British Londinium upon it's re-emergence into the international arena. I also wish to extend my personal congratulations to Consul Nately upon his election and to the Londinian people upon the election of a new government. Though our two entities have regrettably come into conflict with one another in the past, it is my most fervent wish that any animosity remaining between our nations be erased, and that henceforth friendship, co-operation, and mutual goodwill may reign between the Hegemony and Londinian Commonwealth. The Hegemony remains willing to do all within it's power that it is capable of to assist the Londinian people in their return to the former glory of the Commonwealth.

Official Statement from the Free City of Fitzrovia

The new hope for democracy in the Londinian Commonwealth brings further hope for the people of Fitzrovia in eventually reuniting with their former country.

Furthermore, Dr. Jules Hodz would like me to convey that he is proud of the Commonwealth's transition away from Socialism.

At the moment, however, we have Akimonadi assurances that we will remain a protectorate for some time longer.

We are also unsure as to whether reunification would be advisable, as we have experienced considerable economic prosperity in the time since our occupation by the Akimonadi. Just last week I cut the ribbon for the newest skyscraper in Fitzrovia, towering one hundred stories tall.

Respectfully,
The Rt. Hon. Liam Osbourne,

From The Desk of His Imperial Majesty

Under most circumstances I would be brimming with kind words and encouragement for a nation emerging onto the world stage. However, given the Londinian Commonwealth's history of bloodshed and violence, I must restrain my congratulations.

While my nation may only recently have emerged from isolationism itself, I am not stupid. I know the history of British Londinium; of the war with the Sovereign League, the First and Second Freekish Wars, the Cazelian Genocide and countless other atrocities. The government of British Londinium has blood upon it's hands and it will take more than pretty words to wash off. Many governments of the Londinian Commonwealth have made similar promises, and all have failed to live up to them.

In concluding, I wish to express my hope for a more stable and compassionate Londinium, but also make clear that actions will speak louder than words.

Yours,

Official Londinian Communiqué

Dear Ht. Osbourne,

I would like to personally applaud the actions of your conurbifex, for holding up so very well, despite your separation from the Commonwealth. Indeed, your economic progress despite the bitter, punitive policies of the coalition ministry that preceded me is quite a feat; under my consulship, I fully intend to see a blossoming of the economic and political ties between estranged brothers on both sides of the Fitzrovian-Londinian border, beginning with the lifting of existing trade sanctions and tariffs. With the permission of Her Majesty the Empress, I would also like to invite Fitzrovia to send representative delegates from your electoral districts back to Parliament. While reunification, for now, remains a pleasant dream, the Commonwealth wishes to assist Fitzrovia in any way.

Respectfully,

I am glad that you have chosen to associate more freely with us. I have received word that border restrictions will be eased by Akimonadi guards which will hopefully allow for freer travel and trade among us.

Government pushes for constitutional reform

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44541000/jpg/_44541810_sarko_226b.jpg
Liberal consul William Lloyd Nately at today's press conference

NYQUIST, LC - A mere four days into the new Liberal ministry, Londinian Consul Nately has launched a veritable barrage of Constitutional Acts through the Senate, the parliamentary lower chamber, in a renewed attempt to revitalize Her Majesty's Government and solve many of the problems inherent in the system since the installment of James Swanner at the turn of the millenium, whose reckless militarism has been blamed as the root cause of the Commonwealth's turbulence for the past quarter-century.

Several pieces of legislation have already cleared the floor, winning in a sweeping majority provided by the Liberal Party and centrist Christian Democrats. The first, the 2025 Geneva Compliance Act, adopted the Geneva Conventions and created stringent regulatory protocols to enforce the Geneva Conventions throughout the Londinian Armed Forces. Also attached to this piece of legislation were laws reducing the amount of crimes eligible for punishment by execution, opting for sentencing to a penal colony in Tasmania instead. The second key piece of legislation to be passed by Parliament was the Executive Authority Act, which struck regulations permitting rule by emergency decree and strengthened posse comitatus laws. Under the new laws, the Consul retains the power of consular order, which has been restricted to merely assisting him in enforcing the laws, in addition to the national security directive, used by the consul in issues of emergency defense, war, and/or national security, and requiring the co-signature of the Defence Minister.

However, tough opposition has arisen to the third piece of released legislation, the 2025 Civil Rights Act, which proposes a phased elimination of British Londinium's stratified social hierarchy. An alliance of Conservatives, Nationalists, and right-wing Christian Democrats have vehemently argued against any changes to the social order, and are blocking its passage.

So far, onlookers retain a positive view of the Liberal legislation, heralding it as "the sort of progressive lawmaking we've been desperately lacking," in the words of a Nyquist Financial Times reporter.

I cannot tell you how much joy it brings to me that the Londinians have re-emerged onto the world stage, and with reforms as well! Though we were never any great foe of Londinian Socialism, it is so much better being on the Capitalist side, in my humble opinion. Now, I'm sure that we shall keep the same, close bonds as before; however, to insure that they have not faded the following has been done to preserve the relations I have passed the Reunification Act through the Assembly. The results are, if the Londinian government approves:

1. Three trillion Universal Standard Dollars to be invested in key growth areas of the Londinian market, over a period of five years.
2. Five hundred billion USD's to be invested directly into the Londinian government.
3. The complete rebuilding, expansion, and refurbishing of the Vantanian embassy to the Londinians, and vice-versa if wished.
4. Free trade between our two nations, as well as the re-establishment of all the joint-research and other treaties beforehand.
5. The creation of a mutual defense pact between our two nations.

Times have been busy since your self-imposed isolation. Vantanas has weathered two brutal wars, one against Kroando and the other against Automagreek. The latter ended in the complete irradiation and destruction of our homeland. Since then, we've had the United Nations give us the Vanteland as our new residence, and from here a burgeoining economic empire has flourished. So strong is this "Invisible Empire" that we have plenty of excess money, enough to fund our strong, though small, military, invest in nations such as yours, and eventually support a very visibible empire of Vantanians.

We share a bond, our people, and through it we shall grow in brotherhood.

Ht. President Boot,

Though relations between Vantanas and the Commonwealth have been...rocky, at times, I am delighted to resume friendly relations once more with your nation. Proconsular Council of Greater Vetalia

It is our duty to inform the Londinian government that General Resolution 213-65 has passed the Proconsular Council and has been signed in to law, to be gradually implemented over the next two years. The following provisions have been established to initiate the full normalization of relations between our countries:

1. Effective immediately, all Vetalian ports are hereby reopened to Londinian trade and existing licenses have been renewed, with an additional 160,000 new permits to be auctioned this year. Furthermore, all fees for docking and entrepot services will be waived for a period of five years to ensure the swift revitalization of trade between our countries.

2. Effective at the start of the next year, all Londinian-Vetalians of provable descent will be permitted to claim dual citizenship in the Commonwealth with no loss of Vetalian citizenship nor any tax penalty regarding income earned in the Commonwealth. In addition, all Londinian citizens of proven Vetalian descent are similarly permitted to apply for Vetalian citizenship, should the laws of the Commonwealth permit such an arrangement.

Lastly, a tax exemption of up to 50,000 rubles (approximately Londinian 71,000 denarii or $98,625 USD) will be provided on any income earned in the Commonwealth. This law is currently in force for five years with subsequent opportunity for renewal.

Specific legal and tax information regarding this legislation can be provided via the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of State.
