History of the Republic

In 1608, the first successful colony in what would become the United States of America-Jamestown Settlement-was established by the Virginia Company in Britain. After this settlement began to flourish not on the sought-after gold and precious metals, but on raw materials and tobacco-abundant in the New World-settlements popped up all over North America. Cuba and th Floridan territory, Spanish possessions, had already been held for half a century-but England and France began to carve out spheres of influence, reaching from Georgia to Quebec.

The Seven Years War ended French hope at the New World as the English became the preeminent power of North America, accumulating France's Canadian possessions. British excess came down hard on the American colonists, however, and it was only a matter of time before the American Revolution began, with fighting breaking out in Lexington in 1775. Eight years later, the battle-tested Americans had won freedom and independence, and the United States of America was formed. Britain still maintained Canada, but the USA was sparking America.

European powers lost more and more territory over the next half-century, and the USA grew stronger, yet still small politically, as it purchased the Louisiana Territory from France, fought Britain a second time to a standstill from 1812 to 1814, and defeated Mexico and acquired territory all the way to the Pacific Ocean. As the new nation grew, however, it had its own turmoil and tribulations. Due to breaking tensions over slavery, states's rights, and other issues, Civil War broke in 1861.

The Civil War was a drawn-out conflict, lasting four years after te battle that should have won victory for the Union-Bull Run-ended in a rout by the Southern Confederates. At the war's finish in 1865, the South lay in ruins from the onslaught of the North, but the nation was united-in name alone. Tensions remained high between North and South, and even though Africans were freed from slavery, they were nowhere near being first-class citizens.

However, the late 1800s brought about boom times for capitalism for North America. The Gilded Age brought about the beginnings of independence from Britain for Canada in the late 1860s, while in the USA, big business rode high. The world's first billionaire rose to prominance-John D. Rockefeller-through the oil industry, while other industrial tycoons, such as Andrew Carnegie, also drove up fortunes. Cuba during this time, however, felt none of the good life.

Cuba was no paradise during the late 1800s. A Cuban independence revolution began in 1868, leading to the Ten Years War with Spain. At the end, Spain promised more autonomy to the war-weary Cuban revolutionaries, but none came-Spain remained on top. Slavery finally was abolished in Cuba several years later, but Spain was ever-aware of the US's eyeing of Cuba-in would only be time until the States came to get Cuba, as well.

That time came with the Spanish-American war to close out the 19th Century. In 1898, the USS Maine exploded off the Cuban coast-likely result of an engine accident, but blamed on a Spanish mine. With tensions agaisnt the Spanish dominators of Cuba already on edge, the latest incident drove in the nail for war against Spain. The US quickly mobilized, but neither side of this war really was ready for war. Spain, however, was considerably less ready, and their rag-tag fleet was quickly overwhelmed by the American navy at both Havana and Manilla in the Phillipines. The war was quick, and America emerged with both the Phillipines and Cuba in hand.

The 20th century brought about a spirit of progressivism. Government began getting more involved with life, and America was riding high-until the spectre of war fell upon the world. As World War I pushed into Europe, America stuck to their tried-and-true method of neutrality and isolationism-but it wouldn't last forever. In 1917, President Woodrow Wilson launched America into the Great War. The German forces in France, exhausted from fighting since 1914, couldn't match against the fresh troops from America. The Great War ended in 1918, and the US was propelled onto the big stage.

The 1920s brought mixed times. Life was great, and the economy rolled, but the shadow of extreme leftism-communism and socialism-cast a shadow of political fear. The economic turns, however, weren't forever. In 1929, the Stock Market plummeted due to numerous causes, and the entire world-but most certainly, America, Germany, and Canada-plummeted into the Great Depression. Economic downtimes stuck around, despite the New Deal of president Franklin Roosevelt in 1933. It somewhat alleviated the pain, but not until Germany-led by Adolf Hitler-launched another German crusade did the Depression finally left-through war.

As 1939 rolled about, the Nazi juggernaut of Germany slammed forth into the Blitzkrieg. Poland, Denmark, Norway, and France all fell to the German onslaught, and Britain and the USSR remained the last holdouts of independent power in Europe. The Battle of Britain staved off Germany temporarily, but it wouldn't last forever. America stayed neutral-but ironically, it was Imperial Japan, not Germany, that forced the sleeping eagle's hand.

Japan had carved out its own empire throughout the 1930s, strentching from Indonesia to China to Korea. When the US halted oil trade to Japan because of its aggression, the Japanese launched a surprise attack on the US base of Pearl Harbor, in Hawaii. This devestating attack on US soil, decimating the US Pacific fleet's battleship count, drove Roosevelt to war with the Axis powers and an alliance with the Allied Powers. Germany, Japan, and Italy all had numbered days.

US committed forces into the European theatre first during World War II, first in North Africa, then to Sicily and Italy, and finally into the Great Crusade-the Normandy Invasion. As the Russian Bear slid down into German territory, Britain, Canada, and the US raced from the West through France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and finally into the Rhineland. Content with holding the western half of nearly defeated Germany, the Allies watched on as Russia sacrificed a million troops to conquer the German capital of Berlin-ending the war in the west.

The war in the east was slightly more troublesome for the Allies. British holdings had been swept out of Singapore, and America and Canada were forced into island-hopping to conquer the Pacific islands. Japanese turf fell chain by chain, until America reached the first of the crown jewles in Okinawa. Both it and Iwo Jima fell to heavy American losses through Japanese devotion, but with the USSR clamborning down from the steppes into Japanese territory, and with America dropping two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan was forced to surrender. World War II was over.

Cuba and the Phillipines had both stretched away from the United States in the previous years leading up the World War II, but with the United States firmly entrenched as a global superpower - matched in scope only by the USSR - and set the new imperialistic eyes of America on the countries to the south to claim what was rightfully theirs.

The 50s waxed and waned with the Korean Conflict erupting to the east - a war the US for the most part watched with amusement. The Cubans to the south were exploring the details of communism as a sociopolitical force, and that was beyond dangerous - it warranted action. As radical leader Fidel Castro attempted to step up to the plate as Cuba's communist leader, a US-backed support of Cuban rebels looking for democracy - leading to the Bay of Pigs invasion - led to the downfall of Cuban communism and the assassination of Castro via US special ops.

Fidel's brother, Raul, however, was - if possible - even more vehement than his communist kin. Rather than fight the Americans in Cuba, however, Raul fled to neighboring Jamaica - a country in turmoil over a dictator and democratic roots - and appealed to the locals attempting to throw off the reigns of totalitarian power in the small American nation. It wasn't long before island Jamaica too was thrown under the bus that was communism and the United States, now bolstered by adding Cuba to its ranks, looked to secure another possession from the spreading red menace.

Jamaica had slightly more time than Cuba to reinforce, and the US was faced with the task of deploying an entire assault force to level the island. However, as with Fidel's death, small-scale worked once more. A small movement to join the US had been quashed with Raul Castro's rise, but elements remained. Through US supplying and training, within six months the same cell was able to begin operations against the communist movement and begain upheaval in Jamaica. A battalion of American forces finished off the communists, and Jamaica also joined the fold.

The 60s from the 50s emerged as a time of calm for the United States that extended as a wave all to the 70s - when the threat of socialism and democratic liberalism began taking the minds of the youth of the United States. To reinforce against the culture of the age, the government of the US became more centralized - granting further powers to the military and executive branch and slightly decreasing the power of the omnipresent courts that had come to dominate politics in recent times.

After a second revolt of Cubans against American rule in 1981, American president Ronald Reagan decided to solidify American investments and ensure the country was well-braced in case of ventures by the superpower of Russia. With European-American ties declining, and American foreign support going more and more to nacent African, South American, and Eastern nations, Reagan decided to reformat the entire layout of the United States in a campaign that would take his entire first term.

Rather than devestate America, however, Reagan's plan laid the foundation for a golden age of the country. Through eradicating the system of states and instead making a system of eight districts under three regions, Reagan was able to reduce the amount of government in society's scope while maintaining a more centralized, stronger, more limited government was a stroke of brilliance that solidified Reagan was one of the greatest American presidents of all time and the first Chancellor of the new regime - the American Federated Republic.

Unfortunately for his successor, George Bush, matching such a legend politically was nearly impossible. Despite Bush's work on economic issues - boosting the new Republic to economic heights never before seen - lasting more than one term with a populace now used to legend status was simply impossible. Bush was one and done, with Chancellor Michael Dukakis replacing him in 1992.

Dukakis in his first term was average at best, maintaining the economy and moving the capital from isolated Washington to modern and international Miami - his one positive move. Dukakis's second term was anything but good as the American economy entered a three-year mini-recession regarding the oil industry as gas prices skyrocketed to over $120 per barrel of oil in the Republic. The populace was outraged, clamoring for a return of the booms of economy in America. Dukakis left his second term in shambles.

His successor, William "Bill" Clinton, was even worse - though he did manage to slightly pull back the oil crisis (unfortunately, not enough), Clinton mismanaged foreign affairs in doing so, never once looking to America's own natural oil resources in Alaska - bountiful indeed - to solve such problems. As such, Clinton attempted to compete with other, greater users of oil - nations such as growing China and developed Europe - overseas. His policy of environmentalism and utilizing ethanol also started slight food crises in major cities, leading to Clinton's easy defeat by his Republican challenger - William "Bill" Frist - in the 2004 election.

Frist's first act as Chancellor was to lay the Alaskan oil fields wide open to exploitation - a move opposed hotly by environmental activists but greatly accepted by the majority of an Amercan populace frustrated by empty wallets. Frist also began a campaign of slashing business taxes that had been sending businesses overseas - a policy that also went far in bringing business and industry back to America's shores. Military spending also increased greatly, something that had been largely ignored in the Clinton and Dukakis regimes. While Frist has been criticized for failures in sectors such as the now non-existant social security and in welfare and healthcare areas, his economic and domestic strategies have redefined the Republic as a global superpower and one of the largest players on the world stage.

The Indian Confederacy would like to apply for an embassy in Miami and a consulate in New York, in exchange for an embassy in New Delhi and consulate in Karachi. We, a developing power, forsee good relations and trade with the worlds primary superpower.

The Republic would be happy to meet the Confederacy's desires at consulate and embassy and are content with the embassy and consulate within the Confederacy's borders for overseas foreign affairs. In addition, with European sentiments regarding America certainly not at a high, the Republic would be glad to conduct business with all its Eastern global neighbors.

To the American Ministry of Diplomatic Affairs
Greetings

It is good to hear once again from our American friends; and in the spirit of maintaining our diplomatic ties to a high standard we would like to formally invite an American delegation to Tel-Ariv for talks; national security concerns and of course military co-operation. We in the empire were quite moved by your speech earlier today; security is indeed a grave concern; especially for us; with a border to the south of us being the Muslim safe haven and we all know what those people are like. Then we have the Persian hordes to our east; this is why our Defence Ministry has asked me to approach your government about supplying us with new advanced weapons. In exchange for Oil; since we have expanded our oil production capacity we are looking to export our product cheaply to certain nations at less than market value; we realise you have a large supply in Alaska however exploiting such would cause you severe repercussions from your environmental lobby. Since we have been producing at expanded capacity for several weeks we have a large stockpile of oil currently sitting around that could be immediately transported to America for use there. In Particular we are interested in advanced Jet fighters mostly; though the NLOS-LS launcher with PAMS, The Intelligent Munitions System and Tactical Unmanned Ground Sensors (TUGS) would be extremely useful for border control and repelling any invasions from the Muslim fanatics in the south or the Persian hordes

Shalom

Salutations from the Federation. We would like to formally open up diplomatic relations with your fine nation. We cordially invite you to open up a embassy in Cairo as well as send a delegation to the Federation to discuss a possible oil for weapons program as well as to discuss the Federated Republic's continued use of the Suez Canal. OOC:I would like to inform you that Japan never existed. Nor did the Federation of Kansiov take part in World War II.

To the American Ministry of Diplomatic Affairs

Greetings Mr. Frist,

The Federation would like to establish an embassy in Los Angeles and a Consulate in Seattle. I would also like an arrangement to be made for training exercises between both of our powerful militaries, to ensure rapid response and future Co-Operation should the need of force arrives. We would also reduce Import Duties of Cargo and Goods coming from the United States to just 10% from the flat rate of 32%, should you comply with a positive response for this message.

Best regards,

OOC: Kansiov, the formation of history goes back to WWII - therefore, the United States of America, the USSR, Nazi Germany, Josef Stalin, Admiral Yamamoto, etc., all existed. Formation of states occurs after 1945 (it actually says "50 years" - which would be 1958 - but I'm going flexible and saying after the defining times of the 20th century, which was WWII) - for reference, see the rule page of page 1 of the OOC thread.

Addressed to the Empire of Israel

An American delegation will be dispatched to Tel Aviv to attend said conference. While some of the technologies referenced for trade are highly secretive and confidential, the Republic will be willing to deal to find an appropriate compromise for a less controversial source of oil.

Minister of State

Addressed to the Federation Department of Foreign Lands

We would be pleased to open an embassy in Cairo and offer an embassy in any of the three major locations of the Republic, along with a consulate spot, for the Federation - cities of their choice to be named. In addition, we agree to sending a diplomatic and economic delegation to Cairo to discuss such affairs in trade.

-Department of Foreign Affairs

Addressed to the Federal Dominion of Germany

We agree to the embassy exchange - and request for the American embassy to be located in Berlin proper. An embassy space, and if wanted, a consulate space, will be reserved in a city(s) of the Dominion's choice. Although somewhat leery of free trade, the Republic is willing to discuss such matters, along with more important subjects such as international and domestic defense and security.

-Department of Foreign Affairs

Addressed to the Kansiovan Federation

We will have your embassy and consulate space opened and ready promptly, and request an embassy in Tokyo with a consulate in Osaka in the Federation. A training exercise is acceptable, with a location up to the Federation to decide upon - whether a Federation locale or a Republic one. We appreciate such a drop in import duties, though will need to consult the Republic Senate before matching with an offer of our own.

-Department of Foreign Affairs

Addressed to the Mediterranean Alliance

We would appreciate opening a foreign embassy in Rome, and leave open both an embassy space and consulate slot for cities of the Alliance's choice. In regards to international trade - the Republic is open to the idea, but would like to inquire of what sort of deals the Alliance would have in mind.

OOC: Your trying to steal India's part of America's economy! What we mainly export to them is textiles and precious metals! Oh well, you'll not go cheaper than us. And your clothes will be less of the GAP and of a more specialist nature being from Europe.

An Official Message from the Indian Foreign Office
As you may know, India is currently is a process of its attempt to lower its poverty rates sharply, therefore bringing more economic growth and pushing our economy firmly towards the technology parts of India's economy that are growing so rapidly, such as the pharmeticals industry. India is seeking American investment into colleges and schools that train our children, adults and rural workers to become urbanized and work in service industries, and also in the manufacturing and high-tech industries.

In exchange, India will lower tariffs to an agreed rate (if you accept) on our large textile industries aiding your high street companies. Also, the training of people in manufacturing industries if you invest will make us more aligned to accept further factories from companies in your country desiring cheaper production prices.

Your acceptance will show your resolve to help India break down poverty and improve its economy.

Highly Classified Message (Level Delta Encryption (Highest)
I Apologise for the abruptness of this message; however would it be possible to order 70 A-10 Thunderbolt II Attack Aircraft to be delivered as soon as is possible with payment delivered upon confirmation of our order. Recent Intelligence suggests that the southern Arabian states plan to invade Qatar and other smaller Arab states to propagate its brand of Islam. If they invade we will be forced to respond and in doing so will likely face thousands of Soviet Era tanks; Since the A-10 has already a proven track record of destroying masses of Soviet Era weaponry we feel it would be very useful to use.

Thank you for your time.
