Brief History

Kulikovia was once two nations. In the days leading up to the Nazi invasion of Poland, leaders of the three nations became alarmingly concerned at the inept responses of the League of Nations as well as the threat of the Nazi war machine. They found no comfort from the long delayed aide promised by other European nations and were invaded and after a brief but valiant resistance, the nations were overwhelmed. In the aftermath, the defeated armies, those men that didn't surrender, quickly turned to guerrilla warfare and a strong resistance began. There were Nationalists, Socialists, and Communists. As the Nazis began exterminating the substansial Jewish population, resistance leaders banded together to bring a united front against the Nazis.

Then, in April 1943 the Jewish Ghetto in Jonensberg rose up against the Nazis and a furious battle for the city raged. The Worker's Congress, the name of the united resistance movement, quickly spread an uprising throughout the three countries, determined to take back their lands. It took two weeks for the rebels to capture the city and fortified it. Sadly, Nazi forces returned in force and decimated the city, raising it to the ground and killing thousands of not only Jews, but average citizens as well. The rebellion was crushed and the resistance played a much smaller part for the remainder of the war. As the Soviets swept Westward and liberated the three nations which were now too weak to maintain their soverign identities. The Worker's Congress decided to unite the three nations under the banner of Socialism as the Worker's State of Kulikovia. Thusly, after the end of WWII, Kulikovia managed to remain for the most part, free from the Soviet vicegrip through a series of alliances and agreements with Stalin and his successors. Of course, Kulikovia remained quite close to the Soviet Union but not within it's sphere of influence.

For the next some years, Kulikovia managed to rebuild itself and discover a common identity to unite the numerous ethnic groups within its' borders which proved no easy task. Several groups fought against the government which almost resulted in the intervention of an ever envious and hungry Soviet Union. But, President Gregor Dantes, the Iron Leader, managed to maintain Kulikovia and squash these groups and bring us from the brink.
