Army considering foreign proposals
Written by: Puabi Ninbanda

The Erimkalam has announced its intention to draw up requierments for a new medium tank in the 50-60 metric tonne weight category as an augmentation to the nearly 90 tonne MCA-7. The call for a new vehicle comes under consideration that the MCA-3, which currently fills this gap, will be retired completely from active service as well as reserve storage due to heavy use of the chassis. Due to progression of the MCA development line the Erimkalam has determined that it would be more worth while to procure a new line of vehicles specificly to fill the required weight class in situations where deemed nessecary, and to compliment to MCA series in service. As such the Tank Development Centre at Nas-Arabeh is considering allowing foreign corporations to enter into competition with Nineveh Armoured works, the Sumerian entity which has provided the entire MCA series, and Ponce Automotive, an automotive corporation in Sumer which has offered to update the existing MCA-3 series design for modern use and new production. "We are unsure yet how open the process will be." Commented one spokeswoman for the Nas-Arabeh proving grounds, "But we will make public when we recieve the requierments for the new system, which is currently being debated."

If true, this would mark the first new medium tank program since the introduction of the MCA line in 10,332.

To whom it may concern,

We would like to offer the Lariat 1A1L "Long Arm" main battle tank to fill the 50-60 ton medium battle tank role in the Erimkalam. The Lariat 1A1L will carry many proposed changes over the predecessor Lariat 1A1: new main gun, new coaxial, new fire control and electronics, and various other features. A new armor program is in the works although this has yet to be finalized.

We believe your interest in this project could yield benefits for both of our parties. Currently, the Lariat 1A1L is still in development, albeit the final stages. We have yet to finalize our main gun design which is currently set to be the AGS.250C from Atmos and Calzada y Bayo as seen on the Nakil 1A3 main battle tank (we currently have no indigenous capability to produce these types of weapons, and our other potential supplier [Sequoia Electrodynamics and Sequoia Heavy Tool Works] has yet to provide their own]). We have yet to find an appropriate large-scale armor upgrade to enhance the protection offered on the Lariat 1A1L. Both of these measures could be readily influenced by the Erimkalam to produce a final product.

We look forward to any future correspondence and thank you for your consideration of our proposal.

Regards,

Gary Vought

Subject: MST-1 Program Requierments

Below are the current preliminary requierments to the new MST program. The designs will be labled MST-0AX, where X will indicate the number they are granted in order of submittance. The program will evaluate vehicles in stages, with several prototypes of each vehicle provided at each stage, evaluated, and then design critique given to their production corporations for the next batch. Each batch will have a letter designation, and as such the MST-0BX will be the second testing batch, and so on, untill a sucessor is chosen at the ideal needs. Prospective agencies should be prepared to construct several different prototypes over time to eliminate problems, and adjust as needs are met or discovered. If chosen the winning agency/agencies may recieve a contract for up to twelve million units to replenish currently aging reserve stocks.

(OOC: My design process is like "If I was driving one of these, I would want it with..." and after a few days or weeks "Now that I got realistic specifications and a quick intro text, it's time for the fluff to be added". Also, for each line I write on armor there are 50 on electronics because I know more of computers than of tank armor physics. IC post coming later, I hope it won't be too fast because I prefer to take some time for it. Also, does it need to be exactly as in the specifications? Because ICly nobody in Third Spanish States ever tried or experimented with any of the equipment you mentioned. )

OOC: I stick pretty strict to those specifications. Anything required will be provided, like gun, engine, tracks, that stuff. That is to keep it common with my other stuff, lessen logistical issues. Most of the requierments thus are pretty strict. But anyone getting in, gets some free samples of that stuff to play with (they are all surplus systems anyway).

Here at BGCS-Armored Warfae Division, we propose the following tank. If it does not suit your needs, we can modify it at your whim. The track width is widder than you specified, but it decreases ground pressure, and increases traction, which is better for soggy terrian and arctic areas and weather.

From the Nas-Arabeh Proving Grounds Review Centre

Mr. Duilio Trentino,

We regret to inform you that this program we have initiated is to spurr the development for a cheap, easy to produce and store medium tank for use in reserve, low intensity/weight active units, and in pure war reserve storage mode. We currently have approxemetly fourteen million medium tanks (One of the largest in the world, if not the largest) in war reserve storage, some as old as one hundred years, of various models built throughout our history. At present the vast bulk of our war reserves are either worn down from decades of rotated use, or from battle use or simple neglect. As such we are in need of replacing the entire batch. The bulk, approxemetly eleven million vehicles, are of our older MCA-3 design which are currently mostly unable to compete even with our expert design groups updating them. The MCA-3M and L models, the latest upgrades, althoug built on a sixty year old chassis, are among the best in the world. The issue however, is age. The vehicles are unable to be upgraded further, or for that matter used much longer, and thus must be replaced. We hope this program will provide that.

Article: Krupp announces new multi-billion credit contract

Krupp Industries today announced a new multi-billion dollar program to design a new main battle tank for both Prussian forces as well as for the Protectorate of Lyras.

The new tank will be developed jointly with companies in Lyras as well as in other nations which will be providing key parts to the vehicle, which has been code-named "LY-7". While the company is pouring in an estimated ten billion credits into research, development, and manufacturing costs, Krupp expects returns that could raise into the hundreds of billions or possibly trillions.

Perhaps the most important contract that the company is seeking is the Sumerian contract to replace up to sixteen million tanks with a new medium tank. This contract could theoretically allow for such returns as to significantly raise the overall Prussian economy. Little actual information has been announced on the capabilities of the LY-7 and none is expected to be announced until the first prototype is tested.
Tannelorn
28-04-2008, 10:40
Tannelornian State Machine Company is proud to propose a contender for a reserve, Light MBT to the specifications of the Nas Arabeh Review board.

The original Aggressor was lightly armed and armoured, its original design specification calling for armour to protect all sides against 20mm fire, and a 90 mm cannon. It was built mainly with mobility in mind, as Tannelornian engineers were years behind the Kazul in tank design, they designed this tank to be able to engage the enemy for long enough that the THDT 1 heavy 86 ton tank destroyers could make themselves heard. Over the years it has recieved six upgrade packages, resulting in the modern version, the MK VI Aggressor. Fast, nimble and accurate, it is an excellent and proven all around light MBT design, with its predecessors enjoying almost fifty years of service. The current incarnation is no less reliable, adding a great deal extra armour, firepower and enhanced fire control systems.

Most importantly it boasts a very good price tag. Though the design is lighter then requested, it is very modular. The newest chassis were built to be able to be upgraded at least three more times before the Aggressor will see its last day of service. Armour, weaponry and engine can be replaced with little difficulty, even in the field with proper support equipment. As well it is capable, with a little modification of taking equipment from different nations, such as fire control systems, weaponry and even armour plating.

TAV-VI Aggressor Tank
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o133/Conan2525/TAV-6.jpg?t=1209375942
Length 6.3 meters 8.2gun forward
Height 2.1 meters
Width 3.7 meters
Crew: 3 Captain/gunner Loader driver
Tonnage:40 tons unladen, 41 fully laden
Track Width: 80 cm [optimised for Cold weather/Rough terrain, can be swapped with specified treads]
Engine:Supercharged Diesel 1000 hp.
Top Speed: 73 kmh on road 65 kmh off road
Suspension: Torsion-bar
Operational range :600 km on road, 450 km off road
Fording depth: Snorkel system 9.2 meters.
Full NBC protection
Armour protection
Front: 350 mm steel eqv
Sides 200 mm steel eqv
rear 150 mm steel eqv
top 90 mm steel eqv.
Bottom 270 mm steel eqv.
Main Gun: 105 mm cannon w/range of 4 km firing Rocket propelled shells. HEAT, HESH, High Explosive, Tungsten Penetrator. HVAP, APCNR
Turret is capable of taking a 120 mm smoothbore, however this option is reserved for the Falchoin variant in the Tannelornian military.
Secondary Gun: .50 caliber machine gun.
Fire Control: Laser Range Finder. Thermal Sight, IR imaging.
Cost: 340 000 NSD per unit, Design rights at 1.2 billion NSD, limited Design Rights, negotiable.

OOC: I know the design is not up to tonnage, however its modular construction essentially makes it a "hull" you can do whatever you want with. Essentially a cross between a leopard 1A4 and a T-64. Though it doesnt meet proposals, we believed its pricetag and ability to mount larger weaponry [its turret has the ability to mount a 120 mm smoothbore like the leopard 1A6.] puts it in the race. Plus looking forward to the idea of putting my standard tank up in trials against..much..better vehicles. After all this is the most numerous tank in Tannelorn. Plus it was built to support larger monster tanks in battle.

Likely...you would wind up making yours better then our high quality ones if chosen, so that also makes it fun.

Marine & Heavy Tool Works, a division of Etoile Arcture defence conglomerate Sequoia Defence Systems Inc. (SDS), submits the XM24 “Mercurial” main battle tank design for evaulation in phase one of the Enkaramurshulu Medium Support Tank program.

This bid is conducted independently and seperately from Seqioua-Allis Defence Services, a joint venture between our wholly-owned subsidairy Sequoia Automotive Systems and the Allis-Chalmers Corporation of Coorsota. In the interests of fariness SDS pledges that during the course of the trials no engineering or technical data will be shared between both companies.

Below is shown the 55 ton all-welded titaninum hull configuration of MST Prototype 02 featuring rubber track skirts to cover the seven road wheels in preparation for trials in the dusty Sumerian plains, and initial location of an armoured infra-red search light to the side of the Type 3660 main armanent.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c197/USCMC/nationstates/XM24MercurialMST02.png

SDS has also noted with great displeasure the inclusion of the M34A3 CAT as part of Trilon Defense Inc. proposal to this program. The M34A3 CAT (Cataphract Assault Tank) is owned and produced by SDS, the vehicle depicted by Trilon Defense Inc. being that of one of our early pre-production configurations. We therefore demand that Trilon Defense Inc. removes all reference to the M34A3 CAT from their literature including product art.

OOC: That’s the polite way of asking to remove my artwork from your site. The M34A3 CAT was a piece of artwork I briefly had on my photobucket last year and have since replaced (and will likely replace again until I’m happy with it).

* OOC: Basicly, have the thing up here by next Friday (the 23rd of May) so that over that weekend I can read them, make my evaluations, and so on. If it's already up it's not an issue, just giving time for others. If it's not up it doesn't make it to the second round trials (Meaning the following week I don't give you suggestions from my experiance, and run new trials on modified vehicles). I expect three trial runs, but who knows, some great submissions so far.

MERIDIA-CENTRA, E.A. - Marine & Heavy Tool Works LLP, a business unit of Sequoia Defence Systems Inc., has developed the XM24 “Mercurial” Demonstrator Tank in response to an open solicitation issued by the Sumerian Erimkalam inviting foreign tank manufacturers to design, develop and demonstrate a vehicle meeting the requirements of the Enkaramurshulu Medium Support Tank Phase 1 (MST-1) program.

The XM24 demonstrator is based on a 50 metric tonne Main Battle Tank platform incorporating a number of features from the in-service M22A2 Jackal and M35A2 Cataphract development program including a crew-in-hull layout and unmanned low-profile turret with all-electric controls, driver peripheral vision systems and third-generation (GEN III) thermal sights. The XM24 demonstrator also integrates a number of Sumerian subsystems as specified by the Request for Proposal (RFP) issued by the Erimkalam. These include a Gaurita prime power unit, a Type 3660 115L55 smoothbore cannon, Lagash 7.5 mm caseless medium machine gun and Enlil MK IIIL active protection system.

Engineers at Marine & Heavy Tool Works were able to leverage experience they gained last year evaluating Coorsotan-procured Sumerian MCA-7C “Timber Wolf” main battle tanks as part of the M22A2 Jackal (Lariat 1A2) Main Battle Tank development effort with the Allis-Chalmers Corporation. The influence this has had on the eventual configuration of the XM24 is clear in the emphasis placed on mobility and frontal protection that favour the agressive tactics employed by the Erimkalam. To reflect these qualities the program was named “Mercurial” to embody the swiftness, agility and lethality of the new tank.

Marine & Heavy Tool Works have employed the latest in rapid prototyping technology in the development of the XM24. The company proceeded from computer-aided drawing (CAD) to three dimensional prototyping and testing to cutting first metal within 9 NS weeks of issuance of the contract by the Erimkalam. The XM24 Mercurial has been given the designation MST07 by the Erimkalam. The first of three demonstration/validation (dem/val) prototypes (MST07-01, -02 and -03) have been delivered to the Nas-Arabeh Proving Grounds in Sumer to take part in the Phase 1 competition against other foreign tank designs.

From the Nas-Arabeh Proving Grounds Review Centre

Due to unforseen technical and political issues (OOC: Me oving, moving again, no money, so on.) our judgement has taken quite a bit longer then expected. Further compounding the issue has been a division between nessecary design elements from the considering parties. As such we have further narrowed down the field to the following vehicles to move into the MST-0BX trials, where we hope to come to a final decsion. Those participants who have not been chosen to move up, we thank you for your offer and effort. Those who have been chosen to move up may submit a further upgraded concept based on the breif considerations below, or continue on with the current prototype.

Again, thank you all for your participation.

[b]Chosen Designs for next stage of testing:[/i]

MST-0A1 (Edinig/"Grass Leopard")- Ponce Automotive (Sumer)

MST-0A3 (Ly-7) - Lyran/PeoplesFreedom
- Weight is considered the only issue.

MST-0A5 (Lariat 1A1L) - Sequoia-Allis Defense Services (Coorsota)
- Concern has been brought up due to dust ingestion through the 0A5's air intake systems, as well as dust related complications with the suspension. Reliability in such situations is currently a concern.

MST-0A9 (Tiglath Pileser) - STS/Kriegzimmer/Imperial Land Systems (Macabees/Castilla y Belmonte)
- We have chosen the two X1A prototypes you have provided as our ideal of the three. Only minor issues currently with ease of construction, likewise Naval Infantry are concerned with it's ability to operate in a marine environment.

Notice to all Second-Tier Competitors:
- It has been decided that the vehicle in question may be considered for rearming with the slightly longer Type-3650 115L60 smoothbore, while this should not affect the trials, we do ask that competitors consider the extra half-meter of barrel length for their trunnion designs to account for the extra weight if necessary. Coaxial and Pintle-mounts have been dropped. The current is that the mount only a minimum of the 7.5mm Lagash Caseless, with consideration being given to any further weapon, although priority will be given to weapons which can chrun well into the current Sumerian logistical patterns, or already meet such needs. Finally, the now common Aerosol system used on most Sumerian AFVs for screening purposes will be used. It is asked that consideration be given for the placement of such a system, or the replacement of current grenade discharge systems with it.

Fire Control And Observation:

The commander's station is equipped with six periscopes, providing a 360° view. The Raytheon Commander's Independent Thermal Viewer (CITV) provides the commander with independent stabilised day and night vision with a 360° view, automatic sector scanning, automatic target cueing of the gunner's sight and back-up fire control.

The M1-T958 tank has a two-axis Raytheon Gunner's Primary Sight- Line of Sight (GPS-LOS) which increases the first round hit probability by providing faster target acquisition and improved gun pointing. The Thermal Imaging System (TIS) has magnification x10 narrow field of view and x3 wide field of view. The thermal image is displayed in the eyepiece of the gunner's sight together with the range measurement from a laser rangefinder. The Northrop Grumman (formerly Litton) Laser Systems Eyesafe Laser Rangefinder (ELRF) has a range accuracy to within 10m and target discrimination of 20m. The gunner also has a Kollmorgen Model 939 auxiliary sight with magnification x8 and field of view 8°.

The digital fire control computer is supplied by General Dynamics - Canada (formerly Computing Devices Canada). The fire control computer automatically calculates the fire control solution based on: lead angle measurement; bend of the gun measured by the muzzle reference system; velocity measurement from a wind sensor on the roof of the turret; data from a pendulum static cant sensor located at the centre of the turret roof. The operator manually inputs data on ammunition type, temperature, and barometric pressure.

The driver has either three observation periscopes or two periscopes on either side and a central image intensifying periscope for night vision. The periscopes provide 120° field of view. The DRS Technologies Driver's Vision Enhancer (DVE), AN/VSS-5, is based on a 328 x 245 element uncooled infrared detector array, operating in the 7.5 to 13 micron waveband. A Raytheon Driver's Thermal Viewer, AN/VAS-3, is installed on the M1-T958 under optional order.
