Soldiers of the then-Trucial States fire at attacking British soldiers, in one of the few confrontations of the war.

The Second World War ended just the year before. Europe was tired, and many of their colonies declared independence. This is just what the British possessions in the southern Arabian peninsula did. On August 11, 1946, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Hakhraini of the Trucial States and Sa’id Abdallah of Oman declared the Independence of the Nation now known as the Sheikhdom of Southern Arabia. England let Southern Arabia become a free and sovereign state after little resistance. The un-occupied part of Yemen joined the nation 6 days later.

The first thing on the newly-born nation’s agenda was the type of government. There was bickering between the royal family and the democratic party. Soon, they came up with a compromise: The democratic system would be used, but the Sheikh would still be a symbol of the nation – though he had little political power.

For almost 30 years, Southern Arabia was at peace, but very isolated. It had little relations with the rest of the world, and the nation was slightly poor. This all changed in 1974, when a Bedouin camp – still common at the time – found an oil field. Of course, everyone knew there was oil in Southern Arabia, but not like this, this was a goldmine! Many more large oil fields were found too, and the Government took advantage of it. In two short years, Southern Arabia was one of the richest nations in Asia. President Rashid Al-Khalifa, however, knew something. He knew that the oil wouldn’t stay forever; natural rescources run out. There for, he went on an extensive building program. He built skyscrapers and beach resorts in the Cities of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Muscat, Aden, and many others. The small population of locals now were mostly working buisinessmen, owning shopping malls, oil fields, skyscrapers, or tourist attractions. Most of the construction was done by men from Pakistan, the Philippines, and the Indian Confederation (If you disagree, Honako, I can take you out of the list, but 40% of UAE population is Indian nationals)

The tallest building in the world - the Burj Dubai - will be overshadowed by another skyscraper - the Burj Al-Hakhraini - in Aden. Both are in the Kingdom of Southern Arabia.

Government

The Kingdom of Southern Arabia, ironically, is a republic. Every five years, since 1950, the people have voted on the President and Vice-President. During the 1980's Southern Arabia was accused of discrimination against females, as they were getting paid less in their jobs and because none had an important role in politics. This dispute in long over.

OOC: I have embassies with all nations, probably excluding Pyeki, but diplomatic relations would be nice. I'm a little too lazy to put a formal reply now, but I will put you to "freindly" relations.
