Federation of the New Terran Alliance Declares Independence, Diplomatic Openings.

New London, New Terra: In a ceremony packed with official dignitaries, members of the intergalactic press and VIPs from other areas, the High Commissioner of United Earth formerly signed the Independence Proclamation of the New Terra Alliance, formerly ending any involvement of Earth Government over the New Terra Colony.

The colony, which has been calling for independence and home rule for almost thirty years, was finally given its wish by an Earth Government looking to cut costs and reduce its foreign interests in the wake of domestic issues at home.

Co-signing the Proclamation was Governor Ivanova Pyotrovich Taylor, the locally-elected Head of Colonial Government and one of the most vocal supporters of independence for the New Terra Colony since her election ten years ago. The signing of this document laid the legal framework for the newly-established Federation of the New Terra Alliance

Speaking after the ceremony, Governor Taylor announced her intention to dissolve the Colonial Administration and stand in a series of democratic elections for the newly-created position of President of the Federation of the New Terra Alliance (POFONTA). Standing against Governor Taylor and her own Democratic Party of New Terra (DPNT) will be several candidates from various political factions on the planet.

The formation of the colloquially-named Federal Alliance creates a planetary government that comprises the three continents of New Terra as states within a Federal Government. Local administration will control domestic policy at a state level, whilst the Federal Government will control domestic, economic and foreign policy at an interstellar level.

The creation of the Federal Alliance also leaves New Terra with a fully-equipped shipyard in high orbit that will be used as the basis of the newly-formed Federal Alliance Military, the unified armed forces of the New Terra Alliance. The agreement between the Federal Alliance and Earth cedes two squadrons of Riverplate-Class Gunboats to New Terran Control for defensive purposes until domestic production of this and further classes can be undertaken.

Background Information:

The Riverplate-Class Gunboat was inititally designed by Amalgamated Shipworks Incorporated on United Earth, who were then given the contract to produce the vessel as a unit of the Earth Navy. The Riverplate-Class is designed to act as a locally defensive, multi-unit starship patrolling areas of low sensitivity where deploying heavier battle units would be unstrategic or uneconomical. The vessel design, along with the mothballed first 20 units of the class, were transferred to Federal Alliance control as part of the independence agreement, and later runs of production have been awarded to the New Terra-based corporation Alliance Unified Ironworks.

Talyor, Democratic Party Wins Landslide in Presidential, Parliamentary Elections

New London, New Terra: In a highly expected result to the first Parliamentary and Presidential elections of the newly-established Federation of the New Terra Alliance, Ivonova Pyotrovich Taylor and her Democratic Party of New Terra won a landslide victory in both elections, making Ivonova Taylor the first President of the Federation of the New Terra Alliance (POFONTA).

The Democratic Party of New Terra, chaired by President Taylor, won a landslide 223 out of 300 seats across the member states of the Federation. The remaining seats were divided between the nationalist New Terra Party, the Unified Leftist Front of New Terra, and the Isolationist Party.

President Taylor spoke in her victory speech of a "great day for the Federal Alliance."

"Under my administration," the President announced, "we will pursue greater economic development, greater military investment for both defensive and exploratory purposes, and greater involvement in the diplomatic stage of the universe."

President Taylor also officially inaugurated the Federal Alliance Space Probe Agency, a civilian organisation that would concentrate on exploratory missions for the Federal Alliance and allow the military to concentrate on the strategic side of space-based operations.

It would be a strange sight for those defending the system, with their River-class Gunboats, to detect a strange disturbance on the edge of the system. Suddenly, they would see nothing there, then blink....and all of sudden there was a hazy outline of a ship which took several seconds to come into focus, as if someone was cleaning the lens of space. As they gazed at it, a message would be sent from it, going to the entire system as the Initiative still had no idea where to exactly send it.

"This is the GDIS frigate Unyielding Hope. We are carrying the GDI ambassador to the Federation and would like instructions on how best to proceed into your system."

The home system of the Federal Alliance, colloquially referred to as "New Sol" by its inhabitants, was a small system with only four planets. Closest to the New Sol star, the planet Persephone was a barren wasteland with temperatures far too high to support any life without large-scale artificial protection. New Terra itself was the second planet from New Sol, maintaining a natural atmosphere almost identical to Earth and making it a perfect habitable spot for humanity. Archaeology found since the establishment of the colony had determined that there had once been an indigenous civilisation that had reached a sophisticated level of technology, but the inhabitants had long since dissapeared for unknown reasons. Past New Terra was the gas giant Goliath and the smaller, ice-covered rock of Lucifer, marking the boundaries of the New Sol system.

The Federal Alliance Military Space Corps only comprised twenty Riverplate-Class Gunboats transferred from Earth as part of a deal between the two governments. Operating in two squadrons of ten vessels, they patrolled the solar system in two rings of authority; I Squadron patrolled the Inner Grid around New Sol that contained Persephone and New Terra, whilst II Squadron patrolled the Outer Grid that encompassed Goliath and Lucifer and enclosed the Inner Grid.

It was a Gunboat assigned to this Outer Grid patrol squadron, the N.T.A. Ironclad, that first picked up the RADAR signature of the Initiative's vessel as it was preparing to depart Lucifer's orbit in a long-range patrol around New Sol's orbit. Recieving the message shortly after, the Ironclad awaited instructions from Military Command, who quickly responded with orders to intercept and escort. The Ironclad diverted from its planned course and prepared to rendezvous with the Unyielding Hope, replaying with its own message.

The Ironclad burned its engines for several minutes, picking up speed as it left Lucifer's orbit to intercept the waiting Frigate. Twenty minutes later, the Ironclad slid into position alongside the Initiative vessel and began signalling navigational directions to follow, rolling into a position ahead of the Frigate as it began to escort the Unyielding Hope to the capital of the Federal Alliance.

"Captain, we have an incoming message." The Captain turned from his console, looking at the officer who spoke. The officer waved him over and he put his hand on the side of the console, looking at the screen.

The frigate stayed still as the gunboat made its way to the frigate, and when it got close enough and broadcasted coordinates for it to follow, the Unyielding Hope shuddered and moved, following the gunboat as best as it could, traveling at best speed to the New Terra Alliance's center of operations...
