Due to some discussion with a very small group of fellow RPers and our general agreement to start moving our nations from MT to FT, I decided that karshkovia's future needed to be planned.
So, I was sitting at home and half-listening to the radio while I wrote a response to a current thread when a song came on the radio. Zager and Evans' "(in the year) 2525"
Immediately I thought it would make a great basic structure for a tale of a society so I came up (in about 30 minutes) the basic highlights listed below.
Please feel free to comment. I posted this to get some feed-back and ideas. The ideas below are not yet set in stone and I do have quite a bit of untold time that can be used for everyday RP.
In the Year....

Karshkovian's leave earth and there is a three-way split of the population.
* A small percentage of the population will decide to stay behind and keep the Post-MT nation the way it is and not leave for the stars.
* A second group will leave for the stars to become completely space-faring. This group will have a split and ~ 40-50% will leave for 'Mu Cassiopia'. This happens in the year 2525.
For the following, let us call the Karshkovians on earth 'Alphas' and the colonists as 'Deltas'. The space-dwellers we shall call 'Omegas'

1000 years after the split, the Alpha's will still be with modern times. A possible nuclear/meteor strike will wipe most of them out and they will spend the next 1000 years rebuilding.
The Omega's start to turn to a distopian socity where a new drug is found to make everyone blissful and happy, and the central governing body starts to weed out 'any thought that does not conform'. They try to avoid contact with other races as they are 'unclean of mind'. from birth, people are trained for one specific job and to want no other job. Everyone has the exact same amount of food, the same size of room, and money no longer has any meaning.
The Deltas start to colonize the entire Cassiopia star cluster and make many friends along the way. They try to keep in contact with the Alphas but due to the disaster, no one is listening back 'home', though they do keep trying.

The Alpha's have rebuilt and have cleaned away the mess left after the disaster. Most records of the Karshkovian exodus of earth are lost and it becomes a myth to the Alphas. Seti research begins but it isn't in the spectrum, channel or even right area of sky.
The Omegas have moved their socity forward where having sex with a random person is as common as yawning due to 100% protective contraceptives. The few contacts that they have had with other races has gone very badly, though they have escaped without harm and these encounters are effectively erased from all records that the general population has access to.
The Deltas finish colonizing the Cassiopeia star cluster and establish a safe haven world for intergalactic refugees. An alliance is formed and grows very strong. There are two large wars that the Deltas win. They still send the regular update signal back to earth 2000 years after they left but now it is more a religious cerimony. Only the 'priesthood' has the factual information of where the Deltas are from. Earth is only a myth to the common man now.

The Omegas turn to machines to do their bidding. Most tasks are automated and these people become weak, fragile beings that depend on the machines. During this time a great war erupts between the Omegas and an unknown race. Large dreadnaught ships are created that are run completely by AI and have a very tiny human crew to keep the machine running. Hundreds are made. The machines do a shocking job at defeating the enemy in a very pitched battle. Some machines become aware of their power and the Omegas are able to deactivate and destroy all but a few. Those few AI vessels leave and enslave their Omega crews, using them to keep the ships 'alive'.
The Deltas have a utopian society. They have a small number of star clusters under their control. All races are concidered equal. No being goes without food, shelter, medical care, etc. Interspecies/racial marriages are not common but do occur and are accepted. The Deltas do not meddle in the affairs of other races but do accept all refugees and protect them as if they were natural born Deltas. A group of former-Omegas is able to defeat their AI ship and take control of it. The AI ships had been using the same indoctrination methods the Omega High Table of Elders sanctioned, and when the humans were unable to take a drug to keep them in bliss all the time, they had to learn how to control anger, fear, sadness and relationships. Their small five ship fleet encounters the Deltas and after a lengthy process, the Deltas and the small group of Omegas is shocked to learn about the true history of their people. A decision is made to not only reach out to their brothers in the stars but also to reclaim a connection with their earth brethren.
The Alphas have recovered from a limited nuclear exchange and space travel is starting to happen. The Delta re-contact team observes their 'ancestors' and make contact with a small group of independent scientists, revealing the truth of their history. 'finding' the signal and using 'guesses' (help from the delta team) the scientist reveal to the country that they found an extra-terestrial signal with beings specifically sending messages to earth.
A 'message' is sent 'back' and a year later the delta team 'arrives' (they finally go public). The history is exposed to the Alphas. All the gaps are filled in and the slow process of intellectual change begins. There are troubles with those who think they could use this for technological gain against the other contries of the world, and there are troubles with those who want to kill the Delta team because their existance means that the main religion being followed at the time is wrong in regards to life off of earth. The delta team is mix with some other races and two couples of interspecies mates exist as well, adding to the hysteria. All is resolved though and the Alphas decide to stay as they are without any major technological advancements. They do keep sending messages to the Deltas and visa versa (to keep in contact) but believe that the Delta's made their choice thousands of years ago to leave Earth and the Alpha's ancestors decided to stay so the decendents would stay as well (though anyone who wished to leave for the Delta society was allowed to).

The Alpha's the Deltas have lost contact with each other. War back on Earth finds the Alpha's enslaved and knowledge of the Delta's is concidered hogwash and blasphamy by the conquerers.
The Delta's still search for the Omegas, and are a Galactic civilization which have many star clusters under their control. The Delta's start experimenting with a 'beyond FTL drive' which would allow them to jump to other galaxies. Some races concider this a bad move and seek to stop the research, either out of jealousy or concern. Three seperate wars break out and the Delta's are nearly defeated. It takes them nearly 500 years to fully recover. They learn how to Galaxy jump, however and they also start building Dyson Spheres.
The Omegas have further evolved the the point where pills are life. A pill can tone and shapes your muscles for you, or allow you to learn information while you sleep, or even give you a tan. Regular reproduction is viewed by society as unnatural and repugnant. Romantic relationships do not exist nor does marriage. In fact marriage is concidered selfish and wrong as everyone belongs to everyone else. Children are raised in schools and socity raises them as a whole. The only connection children have is that their 'parents' were people who were selected to pass on their DNA. The 'parents' then choose from over 100 pictures of what their children would look like, then select characteristics they want their children to have. In this society natural pregnancy is thought of as vulgar. In point of fact, calling someone 'mother' or 'father' is the worst insult.
Individuals that spend time alone are thought of as ill and/or wasting time. People are taught to associate in groups. Death holds no fear for an Omega as since birth, children are conditioned to view hospitals as happy places and death as nothing to worry about. When an omega dies they have no ties to mourn them. Since there are no families, no one would visit a dying Omega.

Delta and Omegas meet up and the differences in society are to far apart to reconcile. The Omegas seek to eliminate the Deltas for their preverse, savage ways and the deltas wish to do nothing more that move on. A 1000 year war begins, which weighs very heavy losses on both sides. Worlds are made barren and entire Omega worldships are destroyed.
The remaining Alphas have an 'jewish escape from egypt' from their captors and head into space themselves. They decide to seek the myth of their space dwelling brothers, the Deltas.

The Deltas have pushed the Omegas away and destroyed nearly all the Omega worldships. The main worldship, however, is unscathed and they seek to end the Delta's with a device that can make nearly any star go nova (or super nova), destroying the home bases of the Deltas. Unfortunately for the Omega's, the Deltas have built technology to jump accross the Universe Gap, that would allow them to move beyond space-time and land in a different universe. Unfortunately, the galaxy jumping engine is found to be non-operational after the Omegas learn to dampen it's field and turn an GJ engine into an overpriced FTL drive. The Delta colonies in other galaxies are cut off and all fail or fall to preying aliens.
The Alphas still seek the Deltas (the Cassiopia star cluster is a raging ruins with broken worlds and shattered metal ships adrift in space.)

The Deltas are on the run and almost literally run across the Alphas. The meeting is very bittersweet but the Alphas, being alone for 2000 years, have aquired knowledge and technology themselves so they are no 'babe in the woods'. The Omegas learn of this and decide that the Alphas also must be purged. To protect the Alphas and Deltas, most of the remaining fleet stands against the Omegas while a few escort ships and the entire civilian population (10 billion) escape via the Universal Jump Gate. It is a one-time, one-way ticket but the only way they can survive. The civilian ships all escape, but the ships used to cover the escape are nearly all destroyed. The one ship slated to shut the UJG down and allow it to self-destruct is without power and bady damaged. Because of this the UJG's engines which power it all have run away reactions. Just before the Omega WorldShip Supreme is able to jump through after the survivors, the UJG ruptures and explodes in this universe. Coupled with the largest reactor built (a Dyson Sphere) and the physics involved, the explosion is horribly massive, completely wiping out everything in a radius of 50 light years.
The surviors find themselves now able to set up a society and start over in a new universe....where it is the year 2525 and Karshkovians have just set off for space....
