A Royal Wedding (Jindal and Neo-Ixania)
Parvati had been pacing through the Palace for the past few days. She wasn't ready. She hadn't spent years in University studying politics and matters of state like her sister had; Parvati had always focused on the arts and was trained in classical dance.
Now she was dressed in a gold and purple sari, ready to meet the man who would be her husband.
The valet walked through the door "Madame, the Royal Jet with Prince Nicholas will be arriving shortly."
Parvati looked once more in the mirror, gathered her composure, adjusted her jewelry and walked to the door.

Nicholas had landed at the airport with nothing more than a suitcase of his personal posessions and the suit that he wore to his first meeting with Parvati. She did sound like an interesting woman to him and he had been anxious to see her; after all he may become the King Consort of Jindal and thus he mentally prepared himself for this meeting for days. To pass the time while waiting for people to greet him, he began thinking about what questions he would ask Parvati.
As the car pulled to Rajnapura Airport, Parvati glanced at Nicholas' entourage. She had to admit that the prince was handsome.

Rajiv Vishnapur, Secretary of Royal Affairs, got out of the car to greet the young prince
"Good day, Mr. Vishnapur. I must say that it is a pleasure to be here. I am hopeful to be able to meet Queen Parvati soon; as I have heard much interesting facts about her since I was chosen to marry her."
Nicholas could only really think about Parvati and was quite anxious to meet her. After all, she would be his soon to be wife, and who would not be anxious to meet such a woman?
Parvati stepped towards Nicholas.
"Welcome to Jindal, Nicholas. I hope that your flight was comfortable. There's tea waiting for you at the Palace if you'd like. We'll be meeting with the priests afterwards. Jindal waits for you."

Nicholas immediately bowed before Parvati and kissed her hand as a sign of respect. "The pictures of thee, Queen of Jindal, that I hath recieved doth not do thy beauty any sort of justice. My flight was certainly comfortable and I am glad to be here and especially to be meeting you. I would not mind partaking in some tea before meeting with the esteemed priests of your nation."
As they were driven to the Palace, too many thoughts were racing through Parvati's mind. The prince was handsome, and he was polite. She had been expecting a pompous ignorant European, she had instead found her own Prince Charming.
They arrived at the Palace, and walked to the Tea Room.
"Nicholas, I hope you enjoy this. Tea is Jindal's largest export behind silk, and it's one of the treasured meals of the people here. It's a full meal, I hope you like dhal and naan. Some find Jindali cuisine to be a bit spicy."

"I have not tried dhal or naan before but I am interested in partaking in both; after all I should be able to know through sight, sound and taste the culture and cuisine of the nation I'll soon be reigning over. Parvati, I must say that it is a pleasurable honor to be at your side and hopefully, if you desire, we can spend the night together. I am very interested in knowing more about you."
Nicholas smiled as he waited for his tea. "You should know, Parvati, that the Empress of Ixania sends her best wishes for this marriage and welcomes you to visit Ixania if you would like to."
Parvati laughed playfully. "Dhal is our national dish. It's lentils cokked in a tomato base with vegetables and spices; naan is a flatbread, the best that there is. I'd love to meet the Empress at some point, and see Ixania."
There were footsteps down the hall, and an old man in orange robes walked in.
"Namaste, my Queen," he said, prostrating himself before Parvati.
"It is an honor to meet you, Prince Nicholas. I am the Babaji, priest to the Royal Family. Welcome to Jindal. Now, the wedding. Jindal is a religious nation, so of course the ceremony will be Hindu. I hope you are comfortable with this, as we Jindali's are very protective of our faith. Now, it is customary for those who marry into other Royal families to take a new name. So many past Kings and Queens have done this, from the Russians to the English. We would not force this on you, but if you wish you would take the name Nikhil. Very similar in sound, it translates to 'he who is whole.' Welcome to our Nation Prince, may you live long and happy."
After the priest went away, Parvati was thoroughly embarrassed. "I'm so sorry about that. Jindal has only recently opened herself to the outside. The people are still afraid of some sort of colonization. Please, I think I could grow to love you. Don't let a priest turn you away from my land."

"I would not be a problem for me to help arrange a visit to Ixania and a meeting with the Empress; who is one of my many cousins."

"Sir, I would not mind being married to the beautiful damsel of Jindal according to the rites of the Hindu religion nor would I mind being called Nikhil by those who I reign over. I thank you for your best wishes and, if it would be acceptable, I would like you to teach me about Hinduism. I am not promising to convert but I would like to learn about something I assume is pivotal in the culture of this nation."
After the priest went away, Parvati was thoroughly embarrassed. "I'm so sorry about that. Jindal has only recently opened herself to the outside. The people are still afraid of some sort of colonization. Please, I think I could grow to love you. Don't let a priest turn you away from my land."
Nicholas smiled. "Do not fear that the priest will scare me away from Jindal; for I must declare that I hope this marriage of ours will be strong and that we will grow to love each other. Ixania is a Christian nation but we are tolerant of all religions. Parvati, I must said that you are an attractive woman and I am sure that many would be jealous of me marrying you."
"Well, you could use Nikhil as a state name in Jindal. Of course you would retain Nicholas as your name for trips to Ixania. A Hindu wedding is something that you would be...unfamiliar with. It begins with prayers and offerings to Ganesha; the remover of obstacles. Then a sacred fire is lit, more prayers are said and offering are made. You will be waiting in front of the fire, and I make an entrance in red sari and gold jewelry. We circle the fire seven times; reciting one of the seven traditional promises with each circle. Then we honour each others elders. The ceremony is quite shortened from what it used to be, and modernized."

"I must thank you for explaining the Hindu marriage ceremony for me; it would not be a problem of me to be married according to it. To be honest, I am just happy that I was chosen to be marrying such a beautiful woman like yourself. Parvati, have you had any admirers in your life?"
Parvati laughed. "Well, not real boyfriends or anything. Royalty's supposed to be so dignified...anything I had was always in secret. I was expected to be pure and proper and eventually marry some spoiled brat from the Aristocracy. Is it the same in Ixania?"

"In Ixania, we are either married off to an aristocrat's son or daughter or we marry a foreigner. Have you ever had any secret boyfriends, etc? I'm just interested in knowing more about you is all."

Well...once. At University. His name was Rami, and he was a painter. It was so amazing and thrilling, I'd be dressed in western clothes and dark sunglasses so that no one would notice me. We would go out dancing, or just sit in listening to the summer rains. Eventually, I let my guard down and ended up front page of a tabloid. My mother gave me an ultimatum: Rami or my family. So I could either continue a fling, or hurt my family and the monarchy. I chose my family. Honestly, after all that I was just done with trying to pretend to be normal. It only led to trouble and pain.

"It is sad to hear that you had to lose someone you love but it is good to hear that nothing bad happened to you afterwards other than forsaking Rami. I never really had any affairs with girls in university although there were some that I liked; but even a prince respects the fact that some girls are generally unwilling to leave men they truly love. In my opinion, romance should be revived and people should be loyal to their mates."
