The Brookala

Jarvos
20-04-2008, 10:22
The faint sound of hurried footsteps could be heard across the picturesque courtyard that ran alongside the main corridor of the presidential palace. At first the agent had thought this was nothing more than an aide struggling to get in on time to make the presidents morning cup of tea but then he noted the hastened footsteps had changed into a run, this was a problem. Agent Dorian wasn't worried about the security implications as he knew that 11 agents were stationed between himself and the would-be 'assassin'. If this was an attack then he would have heard something by now. No this was a problem for the president.
Jarvosia had been a trouble free and peaceful nation for centuries. The war of the five decades was over and Jarvosia had slowly and skillful gone about rebuilding itself to greatness once again. The neighbouring nation of Brookala had been at war with Jarvosia for 53 years. A brutal war that started because of an ancient law allowing 'boul ka'de'. The law stating that all citizens of Brookala shall be granted the right to any female Jarvosian they desire so long as the Jarvosian has crossed the border between the nations. After many years the population of Jarvosia had crumbled and with the remaining women in hiding Brookala had crossed the border en-mass to search for them. Jarvosia had decided enough was enough. The resulting battle was nothing short of hell for both nations, millions died and in the end Brookala had pulled back and called a cease-fire. Jarvosia had agreed with only one demand. No Brookala national shall enter Jarvosia again. Ever. A small price to pay for years of slavery and abuse.
In a room 1800 metres from the presidents office the watch officer had recieved a phone call that would change everything. So he ran, slow at first so as not to panic the civilians, then he burst into full sprint. A decision had to be made and it had to be made now. Agents lining the hallway passed in a blur as he sprinted past pillar after pillar and into the presidential office.

President Brian Thomson was sitting behind the high oak desk engraved with quotes from various ancient texts. The office was draped with flags of the nation and pictures of the various historical significance. As the officer burst into the office the President held up a cautionary finger signalling his intention to finish his phone call as the the officer placed the note he held onto the desk.

"....must be the primary source. If we don't get it from there we're going to have big trouble when it comes to selling Jarvosia to the Kerratons..."

He stretched for the note as the call continued allowing himself to momentarily break away from the strain of his weekly conference call with his economic advisors. He read as he spoke.

"Bob, you and I both know that the Kerratons would rather drown than see Brookala achieve anyth...."

Thomson stared blankly at the note as the voice in the phone voiced his concern at the sudden break in conversation. He hung up without a word.

"Captain, tell me exactly what is going on"

"Sir precisely 27 minutes ago at 0952 a B10 satellite operating out of Kirrie Air Defense base picked up concentrated heat signatures on the east border of Jarvosia.."

"The Brookala border?"

"Yes Sir, we thought at first that the wires in the satelite may have become superheated when we repositioned it last month so we scrambled a F9-Sooja for a visual ID. Sir it reported that a large number of vehicles and troops crossed the east border into Jarvosia"

"how many? what exactly?"

The president was standing now staring angrily at the watch commander

"Sir we estimate that some eight thousand vehicles comprising of attack tanks, missile pods and personnel lorries crossed the border along with some twelve thousand troops. No air force has been detected yet but its a safe bet to assume their not far away"

"My God!"

The president picked up his phone and hit 459#

"I want the BARTOS security council in my office in ten minutes, place all military units on level 6 alert and launch the immediate threat divert air units"

The two men in the room were shaking. One from rage the other from fear.

"Sir whats happening?"

3 agents entered the room. As part of the level 6 alert their protection duties were now more important than ever.

The President slumped in his chair his fists clenced.

"Someone is trying to re-start a war. We're going to give them one. Captain you better get your weapon, we're at war"
