The Resi Corporation has done it again.

While land-based robots have their strengths and their weaknesses, they are still only that - land-based. Never will a land-based robot be able to soar above the treetops and take pictures of enemy installations. Never will they be able to swarm together, unleashing a devastating anti-infantry salvo from above. Never will they be able to scramble rapidly to defend sections of a base that is under attack.

Naturally, we came up with a solution.

Introducing the
MT-3 DRAGONFLY
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f195/wetsail/dragonfly.jpg
Specs:
Top Speed (horizontal): 40 mph
Top Speed (vertical): 15 mph
Max Height: 1,000 feet
Fire rate: Three-round burst every 1.5 seconds
Ammo: 5.56mm bullets
Magazine: 150 rounds
Visuals: Thermal, night vision, 20x optical zoom, satellite uplink, top-down camera
Battery Duration: 12 hours solid flight; 24 hours off-and-on flight; 36 hours idle
Full Recharge Time: 2 hours
Methods of Control: Individually by remote, Multiple by remote, AI exploration, AI defensive ('Safe Card' system)
Cost: $8,500 each.

The DRAGONFLY Cyphur robot sports three powerful fans - two central fans, and an aft fan. The aft is used to compensate for recoil, as well as propel the DRAGONFLY to its destination.

Controllable individually or as a swarm, DRAGONFLYs can overwhelm troop entrenchments with unrelenting fire from multiple, highly-dexterous airborne targets. Also able to be fully automated for base defense and reconnaissance, the DRAGONFLY uses the same fool-proof 'Safe Card' system as its cousins on the ground - each DRAGONFLY contains with it 10 'Safe Cards', plastic devices designed to look like standard credit cards that actually emit a signal identifying the holder of the 'Safe Card' as a friendly. Each nation gets its own special signal, in our anticipation of the day when soldiers will no longer be needed to fight wars.

Order your DRAGONFLYs today, and discover what an invaluable asset these amazing machines can be.

The planet of Kirisubo Primus, Neo Kirisuban star system

These did look interesting once the information was transmitted to Kirisubo Primus.

Samurai Captain Reiko Fujimoto, now engaged headed a small research team into alternative weaponry as well as doing specialist project work for the defence fleet.

The idea did look interesting and the closest they had was a class three observation probe. So she composed a message to this MT nation.

From : Samurai Captain Reiko Fujimoto (Ms), head of Section 4, Neo Kirisuban Defence forces

To: The Resi Corporation

We would like to purchase one of these Dragonfly's for testing and comparitive purposes. Our main interest would be in the AI field which would allow these to be partially under their own control just like our own class three probes would be.

We might even be able to co-operate with improving the Dragonfly in this respect.

I look forward to your reply.

All orders have been shipped, expect them to arrive within the next 72 hours. The Resi Corporation thanks you for your business.

(OOC: We're only a MT nation for the time being, we're slowly working our way all the way to FT. I just find it a little bit awkward to make a nation and suddenly have all sorts of spaceships and such. :P)

TO: Samurai Captain Reiko Fujimoto; Neo Kirisubo
FROM: Claire Tanara, Secretary to the CEO; The Resi Corporation

We would be more than happy to participate in a co-op with you for our mutual benefit. Such ventures have always produced favorable results in the past, and we see no reason to turn down your proposal.

Please continue talks via tightband-encrypted telegrams, safe from the prying eyes of the competition. The last thing we want is for someone to steal our bright ideas and to find them on the market with someone else's logo stamped on them.

Looking forward to working with you.

ooc: don't worry. were FT but we can pick up the Dragonfly easily enough and maybe some of your people as well so research continue away from prying eyes on Earth.

ic:

With Kirisubo Primus being 30 light years from Earth there was quite a time lag between sending and reception of messages so this was picked up the next working day.

A reply was sent after a team meeting as follows as a tight beam and encrypted message.

To: Ms Claire Tanara, Resi Corporation
From: Samurai Captain Reiko Fujimoto, Section 4, Neo Kirisuban Defence Force

We can arrange secure transport of a Dragonfly and some of your people to our homeworld to continue the research away from 'prying eyes' as you have suggested.

As is standard with Earth nations who travel to our homeworlds you will be supplied with a subspace radio so your people can stay in touch with home base.

This way the R&D can continue in secrecy as we share our hospitality with your people.

TO: The desk of the CEO of Resi Corporation

The Kane Corporation in partnership with Venner Incorporated is interested in buying a number of these units however, we feel that the current magazine size of 150 rounds 5.56 NATO(assuming it is NATO) is insufficient. We would therefore like to inquire as to whether a more preferable configuration equipped with say, 500 rounds 5.56 NATO, would be available.

We await your response.

Watching the Neo Kirisubo shuttle descend onto a converted helipad was none other but CEO Jai Resi himself, surrounded by a cadre of Resian guards carrying what must be vastly inferior guns to whatever the culture they were meeting must have, but nevertheless were considered by experts to be "Pretty damn painful".

Jai struck what he certainly hoped would be an impressive pose, fully aware that his nation would seem like burrowing dirt-rats to whomever was meeting them. However, he at least wanted to seem like an impressive burrowing dirt-rat.
It's our AI they're interested in, he reminded himself, We do pride ourselves in our programmers, but to attract the attention of a space empire? Hell, maybe we should work on designing a cognitive feedback loop if we're that much on the right track.

The subspace radio was delivered as Jai, the guards, and the onlooking news cameras all watched. Exchanging the proper greetings, bows, formalities, handshakes, the shuttle was off with the DRAGONFLY on board.

What sat in front of Jai was now the single most impressive and technologically advanced item to the Resi Corporation's name. A simple communications device.

Turning his head to the cameras, and to the people of the corporation, Jai quipped, "Well, I almost feel as if I should built it an altar."

Cyphurs function as well as they do due to their light weight. They could certainly carry up to 400 5.56mm NATO unmodified, but it would effectively halve the battery duration in continuous flight due to the weight.

Assuming you load 400 5.56mm NATO shells, its maximum capacity, the battery duration will be as follows:
6 hours solid flight; 18 hours off-and-on flight; 36 hours idle

If this is acceptable, consider the models shipped. If not, let us know within the next 48 hours.

ooc: the ships have a female crews btw

The larger cargo shuttle had returned to the Samurai Class cruiser 'Fire Dragon' with the Dragonfly on board.

The stunning asian and female XO of the Fire Dragon had posed for the cameras wearing her usual dark green jacket that was almost western style, a black blouse, knee length black skirt and thigh high black boot uniform. She also had a holstered hand phaser and a wicked looking honour dagger on her left hip.

She was small in stature but looked powerful all the same.

With a slight time lag even at this short distance (for a starship at least) the Captain replied to the message.

"Resi san, This is Captain Tanaka commanding the NKS Fire Dragon. We will keep you informed of the initial tests as we try out the Dragonfly as it stands. You should have initial reports coming back in 10 days given the long journey we have to return home.

You are able to send some technical people of your own with us if you want to before we depart."

Before the ship departs, seven Resi-loyal scientists are sent aboard - two physicists, two biologists, two programmers and a robotics technician. Indispensable assets to the corporation all, they will be missed from the homeland, but their minds are needed elsewhere.

So with seven visiting scientists on board the 'Fire Dragon' warped out of the Sol system heading home at crusing speed.

Quarters were assigned. As this was a military ship quarters were basic but had all that people needed. Soon the work would start away from prying eyes and the prep work could be done on the journey since two Section 4 people were on board.

Not to give away too much of our business strategy, but a naval drone is on the agenda in the near future, as well as a bomber drone and a large land drone.
