Satrapi rolled his eyes and swiftly gestured to the hiding guerrillas who had been kept in reserve. The guerrillas jumped up, while the snipers stayed down, picking off Bardarians in the midst of the battle. The guerrillas fired into the mass, taking out mainly Bardarians with their excellent aim.

The conventional soldiers were not doing so well though, they had been taken by surprise by the Bardarian response, and were straggling slightly. Many of them were already dead. Then an order came, "GET BEHIND THE TANKS!".

The remaining soldiers retreated behind the heavily equipped APCs and tanks which rolled into the Bardarian armies, firing from all sides. The battle had and was going to have heavy casualties on both sides.

Comrade Raskol was irritated. Neither Belschaft nor Esparada had answered his request for an observing force in Bardar yet. The PFF commander was through with waiting. He had already ordered an airstrike on Baradech. The MIGs left the military airfield in the direction of Baradech. They would avoid fleeing over Esparadan or Belschaft controlled territory to not agitate these capitalist bastards too much. Tomorrow the real invasion would begin when the Southern Revolutionary Brigade would cross the border. Then they would demand Belschaft to leave the oilfields, and after that seize the country, after bombing it to dust of course. And Bardar was just the beginning. Soon PFF would be able to invade all the breakaway countries and re-establish the Mountainous Provinces. The world would know PFF was back in the game.

Bardur I was very frightened. The worst possible outcome had just happened. 4 MIGS had bombed strategic positions in Central Baradech. The AA guns had shot down one of them, while the others had been able to flee after the bombing. There were already high casualty numbers. It had really happened. The Opressors were back. Now peace with Belschaft and Esparada was more important than ever before, Comrade Raskol's troops would soon be crossing the Bardarian border. Comrade Raskol had fought in Bardar before and knew most of the Bardarian strategies. Bardur I felt like the victory in the War of Liberation had never happened. The Victory at the Wall of Blood, and the proclamation of the independent kingdom, free from the tyranny of the Opressors and their socialist ideology. All that was swept away...
It took some time for the king to get to his senses, if it was battle they wanted, battle they would get, the people of Bardar would fight until last man or woman was standing. This war would be over when the Bardarian people was no more, the problem was that Comrade Raskol knew all that. He had attacked to kill everything in sight.

Major Yshen knew the situation was dire, the Esparadan attacks became more fierce and the Bardarians were now outnumbered too. The major knew there could be no retreat though, if a victory could not be achieved, they would all de as martyrs. Now something needed to be done about the Tanks. The Esparadan Tanks were of the lightest kind, since no heavy vehicles could operate in Central Mountains. The terrain was problematic even for light tanks, still their firepower was a problem. He called a group of volunteers, who were all charged with explosives. They would sneak up to the tanks, and throw themselves under them, thus blowing up both themselves and the tanks. However all this only bought time, it seemed nothing could be done to actually win the battle.

Cmdr. Satrapi swung his own E-47 from over his shoulder, spoke to his other soldiers and advanced with the rest of the commanding platoon towards the battle. He was not going to sit back and watch, not after Diego was lost in such a heroic manner. He fought back his nervousness as he charged towards the battle, he would fight alongside his bothers in arms, not sit back and enjoy the show.

Lt. Taliz fired his E-47 up in the air in anger, then stabbed its bayonet into the Bardarian soldier behind him, then swung round and shot into another. He was on his own at the very front of the Esparadan offensive and wounded in the leg and right arm. He sweeped his surrounders with bullets, then lept back behind the scorched carcass of a tank. He picked up his radio and called the MiGs. Something had to be done about that artillery.

The EI-100s made another sweep across the Bardarian mass then turned back to reload and refuel, they would return shortly.

By the time the three men reached the study a tall man with dark, ebony skin and a shaven head was waiting for them. His height - well over six feet - was the most noticeable thing about him, but not the most remarkable. That was his eyes, wich were cold and emotionless, as if they had seen far to much, and done most of it.

"Gentlemen" said Hernan Drax "meet David Kane."

One of the Emperor's eyebrows rose fractionally.

"A pleasure, I'm sure. Might I ask the reason for this cloak-and-dagger business?"

"Certainly. Mr Kane here is a seinor member of our security services and has some highly classafied information we have decided to share. We were hardly going to to that in public. Now i'll hand you over to David."

"Of course sir. Gentlemen, aproximatley one week ago a soviet splinter group calling themsleves the PFF sent a note to us requesting to send trrops across the Bardarian border. Naturally we have declined to respond, and our sattalites have shown a military build up just across the northwestern border. The troops amassing there are signifigantly stronger than those of Bardars, and we can see no way for Bardar to triumph, even if their army was not allready comited to combat. Are curent intel sugests that they will begin an attack within aproxamitly 18 hours." The intelligence agent then handed out satalite photographs showing large numbers of troops massing in valleys.

Hernan Drax then took back over. "Obviously the last thing we want to see is a comunist resurgence, especially so near to our oil supplies. However we currently have very little influence in the north west beyond our air power. If the attack go's ahead now we will counter it with F-22's, F-18's, A-10's and our new Neuron Unamanned Combat Drones, but without ground troops theres only so much we can do. For that reason I have been ortherised to offer Bardar a deal."

"Efectivly it's the same one we offered before, but without the ploitical reform demands. We will continue to administer the northeast, maintain bases at New Baradech and Hadifa and split the oil field costs and prfoits. However, we will also redoploy the 1st Army to counter the PFF advance and bring in more soldiers to siport. There isn't enoght time to do move our troops to stop the invasion, but using Bardarian road links we can have the 1st past Baradech and fighting in a few days and can launch a rapid air deployment with a few hours notice."

"That gentlemen is the offer. We are on a schedule here, so you have about, oh three hours before we have to take action. I bellieve your higness has a contact number for me, if you will excuse me I have a plane to catch."

Pando Zum decided to answer;

"The return of the Opressors are ind-deed what Bardar h-have been worrying about. H-however w-we have to remember th-that for the moment the invasion plan is a p-personal c-crusade of Comrade Raskol. B-bardarian secret police is c-confirming that he, Thank the Lords of the Mountains, d-don't have access to the PFF nuclear arsenal. Also h-he is the l-last of the h-hardliners and if w-we l-let this conflict escalate w-we might force the People's Revolutionary Council to act. The Council has, as you p-probably know been the governing force in the PFF since the death of the last chairman. That also mean the structure of leadership among the Op-pressors are b-broken. and if C-comrade Raskol is able to m-mobilize the party behind him, the PFF will once again be horrific f-force to recon w-with.
Bardar will at th-this point a-apoligize that other f-forces will b-be in the m-middle of our f-feuds with the O-opressors, but w-will of course accept any h-help we can g-get.

The news that the Opressors had launched a bombing operation on Baradech shocked Major Yshen, however he could not tell the news to his men, it would destroy the morale. He sniffed in the air, the air had become heavier. He knew that meant it would start to rain, and if it started to rain it meant trouble. The rainfall on Central Mountains was rare phenomena, but when it began it fell hard. The erosion would of course make it harder for the Esparadan tanks, but the artillery would not be able to see their targets. The again the Esparadan airforce would have problems operating. Heavy, dark clouds appeared in the sky, it was going to be a thunderstorm!

Comrade Raskol knew it was all about timing. When it became clear at least Belschaft might become something of a nuisance, he decided to quickly act. If the People's Revolutionary Council heard about his gamble begore all Bardar was occupied they might force him to back down. However the path to glory ha just begun, as the heavy tanks rolled over the border. They were followed by ground troops. Three MIGS had also left the base to bomb strategic positions in New Baradech. He had wanted to use some of the really heavy stuff in the PFF arsenal, things that could blow a Bardarian city to ash, but he had been denied access by the Revolutionary Army's High Command. In other words that asshole, Comrade Mesher.

OPCOM was at high alert when the call fianlly came. Radar had picked up a flight of MIG's moving south from the PFF, and the data was passed along back to TACCOM, who went to Defcon 2 in response. War was iminent. The Inner Council was alerted, and conveneyed in the war room at TACCOM, burried at the heart of a mountain where no wepon could harm them. The meeting itself was quick - the Rapid Reactionary Force (RRF) was to be deployed to Bardar, wether or not they consented. 200,000 men, highly trained if only lightly armed, would begin deployment by plane to Hadifa and New Baradech. Meanwhile a further 50,000 paratroopers would drop into northern Bardar, so as to imeadiatly apose ennemy troops. It was a huge undertaking, but within two days it would be completed, though the men would be ill equiped to deal with a heavily armed attacking force and would have no heavy weponry.

That was where the air force came in. Operation Clear Skies was aproved, giving all Belschaft forces aproval to down any unknown aircraft over Bardar, so as to provide a friendly zone for the bombers wich would be depended on for victory. The war would be won in the skies.

The first shots however where not to be the most dramatic. At the time the PFF made their first major move Startegic Air Comand (SAC) had a squadron of F-22 Raptors on overwatch. It was now these that where to respond to the PFF threat. OPCOM dispatched six of the planes - overwelming odds even had it been a lesser plane - to the ennemy craft with the order to shoot opn sight. There was no way the MIG's would have prior warning, as the F-22, with it's stealth capabilitys and high flight ceiling was by far the more advanced machine. By the time they had spotted the F-22's, the MIG's would be as good as dead.

Ooh! This was a nice surprise! Lt. Taliz loved rain. He had fought hundreds of battles in the stuff during the liberation. Guerrillas were well adapted to it. Just like footballers from Britain were. In a sense, it was a morale booster. Unfortunately, it would severely slow down the APCs, and cut down the flexiblity of the air power. Fortunately, EI-100s didn't have to aim. But the E-37s and the MiGs would have to return to base.

Major Yshen was swearing silent. This battle had to be won now, more news told of a growing threat of the Opressors. The Bardarian troops were needed up north, not trapped in the mountains, still the battle was raging on. The rain was pouring like crazy. There was a risk the valleys would be flooded, but the Bardarians was on high ground, so was most of the Esparadans. It would not really be a decisive factor for the battle. When technology was quite useless due to to the water and the bad aim, both Bardarians, and unfortunately the Esparadans too were enjoying the rawness and brutality of the battlefield. Colonel Gracht had ordered to carefully sitting still covered up by the mountains and snipe enemies for now. A charge was planned, but it wouldn't happen yet. It could be that the colonel was betting all on a final charge, a charge where all were participating, a gamble. He was probably just waiting for a opportunity to present itself. Meanwhile it was just stying in cover and take out the Esparadans from the hideouts. What this battle really needed was reinforcements.

Bardur I did not need to get any news from the Peace Conference to know the situation had changed, he knew the Opressors had tried to bomb New Baradech, and that probably meant Belschaft would switch their focus. He swiftly ordered the miltiary to assemble all troops not fighting in Central Mountains. They would quickly march towards the North to assist in the fighting against the Opressors, he had quickly arrenged a deal with Don Alejandro to be able to pass through the territory of the "Republic of Yawgalia" which soon would re-enter the Bardarian nation as a Autonomous Province. The don had promised to send the Opium Ring mercenaries through the Triangle to assist in the fight against the Opressors. He doubted the Belschaft soldiers would try to stop them, they were all probably already heading for New Baradech. The Esparadans was another matter though, The army that have reached the shores of Lake Bardar was an allied force of both Belschafts and Esparadans. The Esparadans were marxists, and there was a huge risk they would side with PFF. This was a risk that had to be taken. If the Esparadans were resisting they just had to be crushed. The Opressors were the real danger. He had already ordered generals Konstant and Berdin to take command of the forces marching north. he had also ordered his brother, prince Orol Sarekh to fly to New Chalcedon, with a plane bearing a diplomatic flag, to help with the negotiations. At least no one have complained when he announced the plane would leave Bardarian territory. He had also ordered 800.00 men and women to strengthen the Bardarian forces. And Danilo Sarekh had been sent to Parjuat, a city north of the Bardarian border to meet some associates within the Opressor's ranks. He stared at the kris that still was in his room, he might still have to use it. He hoped he would not have to though.

The turrets were set up yet again, and the Esparadans pulled back slightly. Fire flew from the barrels of the emplacements towards and into the Bardarian army. Men fell here and there, but it wasn't enough. The Bardarians were still standing. The call for reinforcements had been made, but the nearest paratrooper regiment was two miles away. And in this battle, every second counted.
Bardar
10-06-2008, 21:45
The signal came. It was time Major Yshen called the order at the same time as the other officers in charge. The Ultimate Gamble began. A final charge consisting of all troops at the Wall of Blood, a full offensive that would either overwhelm the Esparadans or end in disaster. For a careful officer like colonel Gracht this was a daring move, but the Major knew the threat from the Opressors forced more risks to be taken to win the battle. As he ran he felt the adrenaline pump in faster, and he loved it. There was nothing he loved more than the battlefield.

"To be honest we still have problems with the Bardarian goverment, or at least what they call a goverment. In an ideal world we could install a new regime and then fight the PFF. But this is not an ideal world, and to be honest the communists are the bigger of two evils."

"As for Esperada, there has been a brake down in comunications between us. I cannot gaurentee how they will act anymore."

"However if Bardar will stand down we can bring the 1st army, and crucially they're armour northwards. Untill then all we have to face the PFF is the RRC, wich isn't very heavily armed, and only with a quarter in the north west."

"The Kingdom of Bardar still have some p-problems with the n-nation of Belschaft b-but woul very much want to collaborate to d-defeat our common enemy. Our sovereign monarch; Bardur I, has already sent the defenders of B-baradech northwards to help d-defeat the Opressors. Could you perhaps persuade the Esparadans to let them throgh, they s-still have troops at the beach of lake Bardar."
"to answer the q-question that His Highness asked us, the n-nation of B-bardar are still sceptic towards f-foreign nations, and we are demanding th-that Esparada immidiately pull out of our t-territory. W-we would also l-like the so called l-leaders of the nation called Call to Power to ap-pologicze for the insults they attacked our sovereign monarch with. At this point I will also m-mention, as your highness probably read in our memo, that His Majesty, Prince Orol Sarekh will arrive in New Chalcedon to lead our d-delegation."

"What the hell!? Er... FIRE!!!"

The Esparadans brought up their guns and fired into the mass of soldiers, gunning tens down. The Bardarians still charged. The EI-100s strafed the ranks with fire, not hitting anything inparticular due to the rain. The Bardarians still charged. The turrets continued their rain of hell down on them from the higher points. The Bardarians still charged.

Satrapi would have admired them and submitted if it hadn't been for one thing...
"Bloody monarchists...", then he brought up his own E-47 and fired.

The Bardarians were almost upon them. "Pull back!" he yelled. The guerrillas did so, still firing as they went, and armed the charges that had been placed just before the battle began, in case of a retreat.

A tear trickled down Satrapi's cheek. Maybe it was the fact that these were his last moments, maybe it was the thought of massacring these heroic men, or maybe he'd just had enough of war.

Then he stabbed down on the button.

"Delegate Zum, perhaps you could inform your sovereign that Belschaft is willing to fight alongside Bardar against the Oppressors: we wouldn't want any 'friendly fire' incidents."

One. Belschaft and Revolutionary Esparada cease military operations against Bardar.

Two. Bardar re-grants oil rights to the Northstar Corporation, under the terms previously agreed-upon, inlcuding profit-sharing and local assistance.

Three. Bardar pays at least partial reparations to Belschaft for provoking the war. If Esparada had been bothered to come to the table, they would have been included in this.

Four. The Empire of new Chalcedon, with reference to both parties, will investigate the many and varied claims of abuse of civilians against all parties.

Five. Upon receipt of reparations, Belschaft will withdraw all military forces from Bardarian territory. When Belschaft withdraws, Esparada will also withdraw. If the Northstar Corporation has concerns about the security of drilling facilities, the Empire will address these concerns at cost.

Six. In conjunction with the above, Bardar will permit New Chalcedonian forces to be stationed at oil facilities."

Similarly there is an airbase being built on land half owned by corparation, bought from locals since our arival. Comrade Raskol got the news from his close ally, and old bother-in-arm from the Mountainous campaigns; Comrade Arshlek. The Esparadans would not be a problem. even better, they might stop the Bardarian troops from going north. This was the best news possible for the PFF Commander. Now he could solely concentrate on the Belschaft troops, and with any luck the Esparadans and the Bardarians had killed each other when he was ready to move on Baradech. Otherwise he would just destroy the remnants of their armies. However now was the time to strike. He decided to take the oilfields first, then move on New Baradech and Hadifa, Central Mountains was a trap, so the path through the Yawgalian Triangle should be the easiest one, from there the path was open to Lake Bardar, Pesche and Baradech, then it was just the South, with the Secret Military base left. He smiled, and gave the orders, the first Heavy tanks rolled towards the Oilfields, the Artillery opnend fire, and the Transport Vehicles dropped off the Infantry. War had begun.

Colonel Joseph Marshall was in his jeep at the very north of Bardar, watching the border with the PFF. Intelligence had sugested the attack would come from the north west, but that did not mean it was time to rest and get complacent. The Generals had left him in charge of the oil fields while they plotted at Hadifa, so he was running inspections of the frontlines. They were pathetic - how the hell do you fortify open, barren ground? There were hills here and there and a few small woods, but asidee from that there was no cover. All he had been able to do was set up watchposts on the hills. He was at the fith one he'd checked when he saw a line of tanks hurtling across the flatlands, right towards his posistions.

He screamed orders into his radio, as his jeep rored backwards to the oilfields themselves, acompnied by a pair of humvee's. Turning to his second in comand, the jovial looking Captain Jacob's, he asked -

"Where did intelligence say the PFF was?"

"The North West. I know Joe, someone fucked up."

"When I find the person who is responsible, I am going to kill them."

"This does leave one good question - what the hell have our satalites been taking pictures of?"

The Klaishente Commune was a pitiful place, of all Communes in the PFF, the Klaishente Commune was the one bordering Bardar. The cities were nothing more than big factories, and the agriculture was ineffective Collective Farms. The people were among the laziest in the world, they seldom really bothered to work at all. However they were loyalists, most of them believed in the communist system. Danilo Sarekh knew that all suspicous behaviour would be reported to the People's Revolutionary Intelligence Service (PRIS). The alley was dark when his contact showed up. A old sweaty Party Bureaucrat that was tired of his work.
"Here are the files on the Southern Revolutionary Brigade", he mumbled as he gave the envelop to the Bardarian spy.
"Any news from higher up"? Danilo asked.
"They keep looking the other way, not really sure what to think of Comrade Raskol and his Operation", the bureaucrat answered, "they wait and see how things end up".

Major Yshen was tired when he entered the Bardarian camp at Lake Bardar. He heard news that the Esparadans were preparing themselves for battle. His promotion had been totally forgotten in all the commotion, but the major did not really care. He had not felt good about being promoted after a lost battle anyway. Acctually he still felt guilty about being alive, the words that were so familiar with him; "Victory or Death" echoed back in his head. Someone shouted "We are under fire"! Major Yshen did not really found his place in the Third Flying Leopard Brigade. The men in the First had been much better and braver. However these as well as him answered to the call "Victory or Death", the call of all Flying Leopard Brigades. Most of the men here however were from the Royal Mountain Brigades or the Reserve Brigades. He saw boys and girls as young as 12 in uniform. The king had really used all resources he could get to bolster another army. General Berdin gave the order to the artillery to open fire back at the Esparadans. Most Bardarians did not like to fight on low ground, without the cover of the mountains. The Bardarian generals had solved this in quite an unusual and old fashioned way. Trenches. Huge pits and ditches were dug to give cover. More stable covers were built, small walls of stone, however the work proceed slowly. The old oil pipe that stretched right through the battlefield also provided some cover. AA guns were placed on strategic locations, however they were the only hope if an Esparadan Airstrike was launched, the helicopters were still in too bad shape to be used again.

An explosion threw Hernandez to the ground. He got up and shouted some orders. Then loaded his own E-47 and ran to the front. The Republican Guards on either side of him fired madly with a passion. He was one himself, one of the best. And now, since the death of Diego, he was the best.

He screamed and threw a grenade. He hated the Bardarian government. Monarchs. Dictators. Exploiting the civilian population.

The shooting and the explosions went on, Major Yshen swore when he sat in a ditch waiting, there could be no offensive now, just defending the ditches. This battle would turn to be as bloody as Central Mountains. And they still had to reach the Northern parts of the nation to fight the Opressors. The major knew how evil Marxism was as an ideology, the Opressors had killed his brothers when they were just kids, in order to punish "traitors against the proletariat". Now these Esparadans clearly showed they were just the same, agents of evil and opression. Suddenly he heard there were some commotion from the Esparadan side. Then suddenly he got a message from Colonel Gracht.
"It's Don Alejandro, he and his mercenaries are attacking form the other side"!
The major smiled, the Opium Ring had entered the battle. These experienced mercenaries fought on the same side as bardar in the Liberation War, and would certainly kill enough Esparadans to make this battle interresting.

Bardar and Belschaft both agreed to honour the original deal when it came to the questin about the oilfields. The Varangian Guard in New Chalcedon was ultimately able to solve the mystery of Oslaus Berdin's death, and Imre Nagvar and the National Syndicate was forced to hide deep in the mountains. The Opium Ring continued their operations in the Yawgalian Autonomous Region and Southern Bardar, while the Royal Government looked the other way.
