LAKE ELYSIUM CITY -- Members of numerous government agencies have swarmed on this peaceful resort town after reports of a large explosion preceeded the city's mayor calling the District Headquarters, saying that a large piece of metal had fallen on his lawn.

Sefer Kael Entragon confirmed at 12:52a that a transport vehicle carrying Patent Eros Tatriel had exploded just north of Lake Elysium, killing all onboard. An investigation into the incident has begun, but a mechanical error is believed to be the cause.

October Siles-Vadice, a member of the General Consul of the Markham Congress, has been selected as Patent Tatriel's replacement.

This will be the first time a new member has been elected to the Council of Nevesá in seven years; the last new member was Patent Tatriel, who replaced Kael Entragon when he was chosen as Sefer (to replace Nathan Erstwhit after his resignation).

The traditional National Week of Mourning will begin tomorrow, M04-D15.

LAKE ELYSIUM -- A Priority 7-S Emergency Status has been issued by the Council of Nevesá for the area surrounding Lake Elysium, including Lake Elysium City, Mondanto, the Village of Sautt, and Zedderon City. Citizens within the affected area have been evacuated until further notice.

Two people have died, and several have been injured, by debris that fell from the Valkyrie 7226-M transport plane that exploded over the area at around 12:52a. The plane had been carrying Patent Eros Tatriel; there were no survivors in the accident.

Within an hour of the explosion, recovery squads had been dispatched to Lake Elysium to begin clean-up; debris continued to fall until around 3a, shortly before evacuations had been completed.

Only a handful of people had actually witnessed the explosion, though many were woken by the noise. "I was star-gazing, and I had noticed the Valkyrie flying overhead," said one of the eyewitnesses, who wished to remain anonymous. "As I watched it, it emitted a very bright light. Within seconds, there was a loud noise, and I thought, 'Something isn't right.'"

Citizens across the nation are waking up today to the terrible news.

Patent Tatriel's replacement, October Siles-Vadice (a member of the Markham Congress's General Consul), will be addressing the nation at 10a, and will be sworn in as Patent of the Council of Nevesá at 3:45p today.

SUBISTRATICA NATIONAL HQ, SUBISTRATUS CITY -- One day after the death of Patent Eros Tatriel, a tense atmosphere still reigns over the entire nation of Subistratica. Here at the government's main headquarters, the stress still has not alleviated.

"Everyone is in an uproar," said Patent Lydia Morrowsithe. "People are running all over the place, trying to get everything back to normal. But I suppose it is to be expected."

The funerals for Patent Tatriel and the crew of the Valkyrie 7226-M transport plane, which exploded over Lake Elysium at 12:52a, M04-D13, have been postponed until the Subistratican government has had time to adjust to the abrupt lost of one of the government's highest-ranking officials.

Today is the first day of a National Week of Mourning, which will last until M04-D22. Tradition usually dictates that funerals for the deceased be held on the 3rd day of an NWM, but the World Council (the governing body in charge of coordinating an NWM) has released a statement saying that the funerals will be held on the final day.

Much of the debris that fell on land has been collected, and recovery squads have begun searching Lake Elysium. The investigation into the accident has not come to any definite conclusions as of yet, but are fairly certain that a mechanical error was the cause.

I am curious, though you would be in the right if if you told me it was none of my business, as to why the funerals are to be held on the final day of your National Week of Mourning? I do not wish to pry of offend but it is very unusual in my country for procedure to be broken, though I don not know if this is the case in your fine nation.
