With the fall of the Vineyard Empire and the needed protection of the Holy Father of the Holy Roman Catholic Church and the rest of the Italian Government asking for help from any of the nations that can lend help to bring the chaos of the fallen Vineyard Empire back to order and help out our Italian neighbors. So, with all this happening right on the doorstep of one of the biggest Catholic nations in the world the Government of United Citizen’s Federation had given it ok to the Imperial French Government to move its forces to help protect the Government Members of the Italian Republic and the Holy See too from any anarchist that might want to harm either the Government Members or Holy Father and the Cardinals from harm.

48 Hours before Major Combat Operations:
When this operation was put together in Paris under the command of His Imperial Majesty Jean-Christophe Louis Ferdinand Albéric Napoléon or Napoleon IV as most of the military forces will be the French Imperial Guards Forces that will be doing it the fighting. So, Napoleon asked for MI6 to send to two extraction teams to recover the Holy Father from the Holy See and bring him to Paris, so that he can set up the Holy Catholic Government in Exile and allow the Catholics to have their Holy Father live with out fear of death by General Gregorio the new head of the IPG that have vowed to bring him and the rest of the Catholic Government down. The MI6 teams were instructed to bring the Holy Father and as many of the Catholic Government members to the da Vinici Airport and put them on a British Diplomatic Flight bound for London and they knew that anything that was flying the British Flag was protected by the United Nation as being a Diplomatic Mission and the IPG would not like to bring the writhe of the rest of the world down on them for attacking a Diplomatic Mission. So, MI6 working with the Swiss Guards they set up to make it look as supplies were being brought into the Holy See and they would move the Holy Catholic Government out in trucks and SUVs that they brought into the Holy See. These teams were also guarded by uniform members of the Royal Marines that came from the Fleet Protection Group Royal Marines (FPGRM), so that they would look like an official Diplomatic Mission and not just a regular Deliver Service. The mission was given the go to bring home the Holy Father and the rest of the Catholic Government.

36 Hours before Major Combat Operations:
Major Guards Units were beginning to move to the Northern Italian Border and was helped to move into to position with “Frenchelon” Spy Network as they were given up to the minute positions of any Italian Forces in the area and also were they have fixed emplacements and gun positions. So, when most of the Tank and Mechanized Guards Corps have gotten into place is when the Guards Artillery Brigade began to open fire with everything that they had in there arsenal to pave the way for the rest of the Guards forces to go into the Italian Border Country and move into Torino and then onto Milano as they would be two supply points and command centers for the Imperial Guard Forces in Italy.

24 Hours before Major Combat Operations:
As orders came down from Paris for the Irish Ranges that were training in Nice to fly to the da Vinici Airport ready to do combat as they would be the only ones on the flights that went into da Vinici Airport and that most of the Guarding forces there were police officers that would be easy to suppress and to bring the airport under there control until they could get more forces to help hold the airport. Also as this was going on was that Rangers Combat Vehicles and other heavy equipment was being brought into the airport by Commercial Aircraft with their crews ready to drive them off and take out any forces that might try to counter their attack and capture of the airport from them.
Also as the 13th Foreign Legion Demi-Brigade was going to be shipping to Korean Theater of War is when they had orders to move from the port of Toulon to the port of Fiumicino to help with the attack on the da Vinici Airport and protect them from any counter-attack as it would allow them to move forces into the area with the help of the French Navy and their guns and missiles. The full time that Mistral Assault Group would need is 16 hours and 24 minutes and that would leave the Rangers and the Airport open to any major counter-attack for at least 15 hours without any major armored units to protect them.
So, with only 18 hours before Mistral Assault Group would begin their landings and that is when the 1st Marine Infantry Parachute Regiment and 2nd Marine Infantry Parachute Regiment that were training on the island of Corsica with the Guards Airmobile Brigade is when they were given orders to get live ammunition from the Army Garrison there and begin a ferrying operations to the Port of Fiumicino and da Vinici Airport to help with bring them under control for their forces. As they would be lifted by the Guards Airmobile Brigade with the Guards two Tigre Attack Helicopter Regiments to fly ahead and take out any SAM, AAA and SSM Batteries that would bring the forces to an end of this part of the operation very quickly. Then for a closer air support is going to be AS 565 UA/UB Panthers to give a hand in the landing of the two Marine Regiments.

ooc: Hey, im here! But you know what? The Empire is still in dissarray. So some of what you said is true. But what you forget is that there are TO's (Militias, where TO is a croatian acrynym for "Teritorial Defence") dotted around the entire empire for every community, not to mention quite a few Italian reserve divisions. Im going to play along, so here is my post:

IC:
-Provisional Government HQ, Italian Division, Rome-

General Gianni Geronimo was a busy man. Ever since the collapse of the central government, his division and others that took the liberty of calling themselves to duty had been ruling odd chunks of Italy. Chunks being only odd sections of Italy. While his government had the support of the lower masses and seculars, some Catholic elites had taken over odd sections of the country. Milan and the Vatican had broken away under religions leadership. When it happened at first, the already stressed army sent a patrol into both to see what was going on. Since they had not been heard from, and since the announcement of the Military Junta in France, they had surrounded both cities and began shelling it; although the Vatican was close to collapse. The Swiss Guard were giving a valiant fight, to be sure, but they were taking too many Provisional Soldiers with them. Hence why he was busy.

It would not be too much of a stretch to call Gen. Gianni Geronimo's "nation" a more brutal throwback to the Vineyardian Dictatorship times, but it was necessary in the mind of Gen. Geronimo. The society had ceased following the laws of the government after it had collapsed, and a special committee of local representatives had so far failed to agree on any singular legal system. So while they debated fruitlessly, Gen. Geronimo was forced to suppress any dissent, crime, and separatist actions with the strongest actions possible. But that was proving difficult. As the police forces had deteriorated from desertions, the Italian Provisional Army had to replace them.

The results were... dissatisfying. With security weaker than normal, something called the 'Free press" had snuck in and revealed what was going on. They even caught footage of a robbery in Venice that was not handled "properly". Essentially, a patrol had luckily been passing a Venician bank when it was being robbed, the proceeded to brutally suppress the robbers. To make a long story short, a RPG was used, along with a high-caliber Machine gun attacked to one of their patrol's Armored Personnel Carriers to "Clear" The front lobby. In spite of their success in stopping the robbery, they had killed (Accidentally, Gen. Geronimo would insist) 21 civilians and bank workers in the process. This drew attention from all over the world to their situation. Gen. Geronimo, being the good-intentioned man he was, had then decided to stop the free press. First he asked nicely. Then imprisonments began, dead foreign reporters started to surface, and even the citizens began to clamor for a stronger government.

Perhaps that’s why the catholic movement spread. While they had seized control of Milan and the Vatican City, there were insurgencies in progress from what was projected to be about 5% of the populace. Gen. Geronimo has mobilized the TO's, and then vigilante violence had started. Then TO's had 'declined' to disarm, instead forming something they called the 'Defense Council" which had then send Gen. Geronimo 'Recommendations' that essentially told him what he should do.

Gen. Geronimo was not a politician. In fact, he prided himself on that, and promptly ignored anything political. After all, he had a Catholic uprising to suppress and a brutal terrorist insurgency to destroy. The Defense Council was a tool to be used, so he promptly agreed with everything they asked for. Food, protection, training, legal this, legal that. It was boring, but necessary to use their roving bands of TO's against the Catholics.

And boy, was that keeping him busy.

As for MC's declaration, he was ticked. He knew it would be difficult to repell the invaders depending on where they came from. The Alpine TO and the small border force had been put on alert, but they would only delay the enemy. The Cathloics were essentially turning to MC to prevent an inevitable defeat. And the Pope had defied the Vineyardians for the last time (Gen. Geronimo still considered himself a servent of the Empire, in spite of its partial collapse). When caught, he will pay...

Perhaps the most surprising thing he had heard was the claim that there was an Italian Prime Minister. There had not been one for Years... Centuries perhaps. It was clear the MC was using its comparitive friendliness with the International press to propogate what-ever-the-hell-it-wanted-to the press. Well, he thought, reality does not reflect fantasy. MC was in for a rude awakening.

The Monocracy announces that Sardinia and the waters surrounding Sardinia (50 nm, with the eastern portion stretching to the Italian mainland coast) must now be classified as restricted airspace and waters. Any aircraft or vessel that enters this area without authorization may be met with deadly force. We must prohibit access to the area in order to protect our valuable naval base at Sardinia.

SIC:

Two Type 212 submarines, three F125 guided missile frigates, one F124 air defense frigate, one Fridtjof Nansen Class Anti-Submarine Warfare Frigates with an NH90 ASW helicopter, six Skjold class patrol boats, and three squadrons (24 aircraft each) of He-36 multi-role fighters with tanker and AWACS support will patrol the restricted airspace and waters.

-CNN, Vatican City-
Reporter James Shepard ducked down in the rubble of a building in Rome. The sky was dark, because of storm clouds or smoke from the meyhem surrounding him, he didn't know. What he did know was that he was in a prime position to report to the world what was going on in the Vatican.

St. Peter's Square was clearly within view. He set up his camera and hastily established his satilite link, then started to film the scene. For the moment, there was no fighting. In the Square, there were sandbags behind which several Swiss Guard were lying dead. On the other end, arround the pilalrs of the enterence, there was a smouldering APC with the Imperial insignia still clearly visible on its side. Around it were several dead IPG (Italian Provisional Government) soldiers, whom also bore the same equiptment, weaponry and insignias of the Empire.

It was an interesting contrast. The Swiss guard, trained and equiped as well as most special forces in the world are, dressed in the same garb they had been for years. The Vineyardians by contrast always were well equpped with ballistic helmets and armor, even wearing different uniforms for each enviornment they were put in. For instance, the troops dead in the square were clearly wearing their urban conflict uniforms; Grey/tan camo covering their usually dark helmets and armor. Their weaponry contrasted their modern equiptment. In spite of having modern weaponry, they always had bayonetts fixed, and a dead officer was clearly wearing his sword. Most national troops dont bother fixing bayonetts until absolutly neccessary, but not the Vineyardians. In a way, it demonstrated their agressive nature, and unwillingness to surrender. In the countless past wars, very few Vineyardian soldiers have ever surrendered without orders from their superiors. Some units have even been documented as fighting on long after they have ran out of ammunition.

Besides this, the Square was largly intact. There were a few pillars blown away, as well as a large crater behind the Swiss Guard position from a mortar blast; probably the one that killed the men behind the sandbag.

Jack paned the camera around facing him. His face was dirty, and his hair disheveled. The past weeks and days had been difficult for him.
"Live from the Vatican City, this is Jack Shepard reporting. As you have just seen the fighting has been feirce around the Vatican here--" Then there was a loud resounding crack. He winced, and ducked down. The camera shook, then panned around to the square, where a platoon of Vineyardians were suddenly taking cover behind pillars opening up on vatican buildings in front of them. He panned the camera to the buildings. Fortified in them were swiss guardsmen. He panned back to the IPG troops, whom were still fighing on. he saw a dead soldier and zoomed in. The man had been shot between the eyes, probably the result of the large inital crack. Apparently, some Swiss guardsmen doubled as snipers...

Just then, a few infantrymen scattered, making their way around the square giving eachother cover fire. 3 tanks then rolled in, over barricades and into the central square. They began firing at the buildings filled with Guardsmen. One used its cannon, causing an explosion that blew a hole in the front of the Basilica. Troops circled around the Pillars surrounding the square, using the distraction caused by the tanks to kick in doors and invade the buildings the Guardsmen were holed up in. Shouts, the cracks of guns firing, and screams filled the air. It lasted for a few minutes, then several APC's rolled in towards the basilica. They opened up and troops poured out and into the basilica. A small band of guardsmen were at hole opening into the basilica, firing what were evidentially the last of their rounds, then lunging forward with their archaic wweapons to be mowed down. A few made it to the Vineyadian mass surging forward, and a bit of a melee ensued. Eventually the guardsmen were killed, and the troops entered the basilica. Shots could be heard for several minutes after, while Jack Shepard stayed quiet awed by what he had just seen. realizing that the frequency of firing was starting to lessen, he decided it was time to leave before they started combing the area. After all, he wouldn't want to be the next reporter found dead by another roving reporter. Wordlessly, he disconnected the feed, packed everything up into his backpack, and ran off, seeking shelter.

Defense of Vatican City

Italian UCF Forces:
1st Marine Infantry Parachute Regiment (1er RPIMa)
2nd Marine Infantry Parachute Regiment (2e RPIMa)
13th Foreign Legion Demi-Brigade (13 DBLE, 1st Foreign Legion Battalion (1e BNLE)
13th Foreign Legion Demi-Brigade (13 DBLE), Escadron de Reconnaissance (ER)
ALAT Detachment for Special Operations (DAOS)
Guards Airmobile Brigade (Grd Air Bde)

With the Italian Provisional Government’s forces attacking on the Vatican and St. Peter’s Square and many of the Swiss Guardsman have been wounded or killed by the IPG Forces because of their loyalty to the Pope and the Holy Roman Catholic Church. With little to no heavy weapons the Swiss Guardsman have to fight the enemy off with nothing more then Submachine guns and other small arms. As this was going on is when the DAOS Flight of 10 Tiger Attack Helicopters flew over the Vatican and seen that some IPG tanks have began to open fire on the Swiss Guardsman and that is when the Tiger Helicopters open fire with their HOT 3 Anti-Tank Missiles at the tanks and destroyed them and that is when the 1er RPIMa and 2e RPIMa where brought in from the Leonardo da Vinci Airport, so that they could clear the area for CH-47Ds and NH 90s that were also bring into the landing zone of the 1er RPIMa vehicles which are P4 SAS and VLRA SAS and the 2e RPIMa vehicles which would be VBL Milan, VB2L Poste de Commandement and VBL Reco 12.7 around the St. Peter’s Square and that way the two Regiments would be able to extract to a open field about 2. 5 to 3.5 miles by Valle Aurelia that would be covered by the Escadron de Reconnaissance (ER) of the 13th Foreign Legion Demi-Brigade and the 1st Foreign Legion Battalion (1e BNLE), so that any need to bring a fast exit from the City of Rome by the United Citizen’s Federation Italian Forces that would need to be picked up by the Guards Airmobile Brigade (Grd Air Bde) and its CH-47D and AS 532 AL that could go with 44 and 29 troops or if need be 24 and 12 Litters. Most of the CH-47D’s were bring in the ERC-90s that would be used by the ER and AS 532 AL would be brought into the field as a covering force for the Landing Zone. Most of the 1e BNLE would be with heavy weapons like Mortier 120mm Rayé Tracté Modèle F1 (MO-120-RT-61), APILAS - anti-tank rocket launcher, AT4 CS - anti-tank rocket launcher, ERYX and MILAN II - anti-tank missiles and PGM Hecate II - 12.7 mm heavy sniper rifle also these troops in the forces in Rome has been outfitted with Félin - infantry combat system giving it easier for the soldiers to find and shoot at IPG troops in the surrounding area. So, with all this going on many of the troops from what was going to be the invading force from the Leonardo da Vinci Airport was going to be coming up the Autostrada Roma-Aeroporto di Fiumicino to help its brothers in arm already in the city of Rome also the Airport would be the UCF Forces for the area as this is just one part of a much larger Punitive Expedition into Italy and the surrounding Italian Islands.

In your recent correspondence, you wrote to us, "We ask you to respect our right to use our own sovereign land in this way." However, we are respecting French sovereign land and territorial waters with regard to Corsica; perhaps that was not clear in the notification.

The restrictions are put in place in order to protect our neutrality and security in the conflict; therefore, we cannot waive them for foreign military ships.

We respect your request but we do at this moment have ships working in that area as well as transport aircraft. These units have been in the area before your nations statement. We are going to have to ask that you not fire on our ships as we will not open fire on your ships and will respect international laws. We request that you allow any ships that are in international waters to processed and do as they are allowed in those waters. We will not violate your territorial water, but we are asking you to also join in an alliance between our two nations and consider our request to form a Eurocorps and start form this as soon as we can agree on terms of the alliance and this Eurocorps as we will also be willing to ask Republic of United Nations to join our alliance.

OOC: There's one huge problem: This is Earth V; there is no definition of international waters because there is no international law on maritime affairs to which all Earth V states have agreed. I was going to just copy key parts of the RL laws to pass in the Earth V UNSC in this thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=515271&page=3), but never found the time. Expect one next month at the latest, but that doesn't do us any good right now, as international waters is currently only a concept.

ooc: MC, to be honest, your recent post was a tad bit of a god mod. Ok, it was a huge god-mod. You see, Vatican City is a hotbed of activity. Your forces wouldn't be able to make it, largely because of the defensive policy of the Empire prior to this; heavily arming cities with Anti-Aircraft weaponry. Besides, the army doesn't dare move without it being under an 'umbrella' if you will of Surface to Air missiles, otherwise known as SAMs. It would be really ignorant of the army to go anywhere without some sort of combined arms program, essentially going without anyway of defending itself against air attacks.

What you could do is prepare your forces instead of pulling them out of thin air (This is akin to me suddenly attacking Corsica in 1 post!), and you might be able to land some troops by the coast if TGSR doesn't catch you flying over protected waters first...

Now, the IPG obviously did not engage any SAMs in the Vatican; the Vatican has no airplanes to speak of. But with elements of the army perched around it (And remember, this is in the heart of Rome!), the SAM umbrella is in effect.

Realistically, you actually have to prepare your troops to move them a few hundred miles in a matter of moments. To boot, the IPG is guarding all transportation systems heavily. Do you think a regiment or two can sneak in by landing at the airport, but a reporter can't? Come now.

Because you said you were mobilizing your troops on the border, I was under the impression that you were at the border (Silly me). So, with that in mind, I decided to play along with your RP that was done under the assumption that I was not around. Milan, unlike the Vatican city (in the middle of the IPG capitol!) is within your 'reach', although if you do try to fly an air brigade ferrying a few regiments of troops over territory you have not secured, you cannot really assume that they will all make it in one piece.

I also don't think I had mentioned this before, but I pretty much wrapped up combat operations in the Vatican.

***
TLDR (Too Long, Didn't Read, in case you kinda skimmed over all this): You can only attack by land. TGSR would cook your forces if they went via sea, and the ever-present SAM batteries (because im in my home territory) mean that you cant attack via air. You have no land forces remotely near Rome. You have no land forces in Italy. You did not prepare your forces, and god-modded them into existence at an airport.

Oh, and the Vatican is in the Middle of Rome, which is half-way down the peninsula of Italy. Nowhere near France where you did RP your troops mobilizing.

EDIT: I looked over your units list, and there is no way you would be able to get those near Rome without facing heavy resistance. Except for maybe the Special Ops, but even then, you would have to infiltrate them and walk them to the Vatican. It would take a ton of time...

SIC: -Encrypted IPG satellite Communication to TGSR-

To whom it may concern,
We are currently embroiled in a conflict with Catholic Radicals and their French Allies. We need naval support, as we currently lack it. In return for your naval protection, we will give all TGSR corporations unlimited, tax-less access to Italian markets for the duration of the war. This would be in effect a hands-off, one-sided common market treaty, whereas we would allow your companies to do business freely in all IPG held-lands.

Signed,

I would like to point out to you that I have had the 1st and 2nd Marine Infantry Parachute Regiments already on Corsica on a training mission, so that is where they came from and I also had the 13th DBLE on there way into da Vinci Airport where the Irish Rangers dropped into the night before the 13th came into the Airport to hold it and move on into Rome to help the units that was already in Rome and around the Vatican City. But you must have overlooked that from my post. Also if you going to say that I was god-modding then you should look at your post and think that if your going to say that you have all these SAMs and other military forces then you should post it some place and not just say you have them. I am going off what you have posted on the military thread of Earth V and so if you have not posted anything about a Air Force or Anti-Air Defense Zones on the Italian main-land or on the islands that you own because of Italy. So, if you would please post something about your TOs and ADAs someplace that would be a big help as I would not post something like I did without knowing what you have. Also you don't have any thing about Armor or Mech-Infantry Forces, so if you going to make fuss about my post then you should look and clean up your post too.

As for the military forces and ships that are already on the coast where the demilitarized zone in which TGSR has listed off limits to military forces.
