Free Market Network of Maniaca seeks foreign cartographers

Maniaca

The Free Maniacan Agricultural Cooperative is offering the equivalent of a billion dollars to anyone able to accurately map the island the Free Market Network of Maniaca rests on and it's surrounding little islands that naturally are there as is usually the case with big islands.

-Lloyd Banks,
FMAC, FMNM

OOC: I deleted internet explorer and it took my paint program away. Anyone who comes up with the coolest map of Maniaca wins a billion dollars. Any or all of the cities you may or may not include:

St. Anthony's (capital)
St. Patrick's (close to St. Anthony's)
St. Oliver's
St. Peter's
St. Luke's
St. Andrew's
St. Edward's
St. John's
St. Valentine's
St. Joseph's
St. Mary's
St. Vincent's
St. Christopher's
St. Mark's
(Any other Saint you can think of whose name doesn't end in 'S'....before declaring government null and void, the people who took over after the emperor's abdication renamed all the cities after Saints, which didn't bother the devout Catholic people of the new Free Market Network)

Thanks. Joke submissions as always are welcome

OOC: What's wrong with names ending in S? Just call it Saint Gus' (or whatever. I don't know saint names). Also, I may take a crack at it. Any more details?

Regards; Call for able cartographers

Greetings and salutations,
Having heard your recent call for able cartographers, I saw the perfect chance for my students to engage in an actual field exercise in which previous maps were non-existent. Through seven of my students efforts, we have compiled a basic map of your great nation.

If for any reason you would desire extra details added to the map, please contact with all haste. There is nothing like true and earnest work to stimulate the minds of young scholars.

Sincerely,
Professor Mathias D. Roh

OOC: It's a little cumbersome to say, that's all. It could be gone for, I guess.

It's pretty much free hand to the artist, although keep in mind that the land mass is gigantic, to accomodate eleven billion people. The cities are extemely developed and arcologies tower hundreds of stories up, but still, there's a ton of land mass just so that conditions are crowded but livable. Doesn't really affect anything because it can just be looked at with a different scale, but I thought it might be important.

Sulaymaan, it looks great, I'd definitely use it if no one comes up with anything more intriguing. Thanks for your help.

I forwarded your request to the Zinairian Cartographical Society and they produced the attached map.

OOC: It's based on Google Maps.

OOC: Thanks Zinaire, it looks great. I'm not sure which one I like better, so hopefully someone will come and blow both of yours away so I don't have a tough decision to make. Of course, they're just maps and they'll probably all look pretty good, if anyone submits any more.

After 20 minute frantic labour, I came up with these: note they are early versions, and cities may not correlate with rivers. I've done for you, in the following order: Political, Geographical, Topological. With the latter, each colour change represents an altitude range of 300m (i.e Green 0-300, Pus Green 301-600m... etc.) It works the other way as well (though I'm thinking I may make that trench a bit bigger...)

If you want me to, if this is accepted, then I'll do you a better version of those (with features named for you, as per your request for rivers, islands and the like), which will likely as not be in greater detail. I'll also throw in for you a tectonic map (I've likened this to an island chain formed near a subduction zone), and a climate map (tropical?).

In addition, do you want me to increase the island chain length by going to the north-west as well?

OOC: That looks really good too, Alfegos. Probably wouldn't be necessary to expand the chain. Thanks for the effort, it's certainly a landscape I could be proud of.

Everyone's looks great, I'll probably let it go till tomorrow evening if people are still making maps and then pick the one I like best. This is pretty exciting.

OOC: It looks like no one else will draw a map, so I've picked Sulaymaan's

IC: The Free Maniacan Agricultural Collective has chosen the map drawn by students from Wotan University in the People's Republic of Sulaymaan as the most accurate representation of the landscape of the Free Market Network of Maniaca's islands. If it would please the cartographers, the FMAC requests an edition of the map which shows the islands colored a light green, and the surrounding water pure white, so as to facilitate the addition of neighboring regions to the map. The FMAC also wishes that the text "Maniaca" be emblazoned somewhere in the vicinity of our islands.

In any case, an official has departed by jet carrying the equivalent of one billion USDs in gold bars, and should be arriving shortly. Your efforts are greatly appreciated by the Free Market Network and its people.

-Lloyd Banks,
FMAC, FMNM

OOC: In the end I picked Sulaymaan's cause it looked nice and it seemed to be best if I'm going to have my neighbors in Cawkland add themselves to the map and we can get a map of the region going. If you didn't pick it up in the IC, Sulaymaan (or I guess anyone else who can copy it and do this), I'd ask that everything be kept the same but the land masses be colored light green, and the water be colored white, and the word "Maniaca" slapped on there somewhere. And I think you meant to write St. Anselm not St. Anslem for that one city maybe you could fix that too if not NBD. Thanks for your help, and thanks to everyone who drew a map.

CC; The Peoples Republic of Sulaymaan; Imperium Assembly; Foreign Affairs Bureau

We are overjoyed to hear that the students entry for the map of your great nation was selected from all the applicants, and look foreword to investing the reward money into the University. As requested, the students have faithfully applied the requested adjustments to the map which is attached to this message.

Also, landing clearance has been granted by the Imperium Assembly for your registered aircraft at Wotan International Airport. An armed convoy of the Treasury Department will also be ready to collect the bullion directly from the tarmac, and an honorary convoy to escort your delegate to Wotan University for a complimentary tour of the facilities and stay in Wotan's finest hotel.

The Imperium Assembly, under orders of Fleet Admiral of the Republic Zack Matsuda (Head of the Foreign Affairs Bureau), had directed me to extend an offer of diplomacy from our nation to yours in the form of an embassy exchange. I would greatly appreciate it if the Free Maniacan Agricultural Cooperative would see fit to foreword the offer to the appropriate authorities within the Free Market Network of Maniaca.

Sincerely,
Professor Mathias D. Roh
