Forging a new friendship (closed, attention Osterstatt)

The Generalissimo reclined languorously in his chair, suckling a thick Cuban cigar, gingerly cradling a glass of cognac in one hand while stroking a purring kitten perched on his lap with the other. His feet were propped atop his desk, upon which were scattered maps, portfolios, various decrees he had yet to sign, etc. Stifling a yawn, he glanced at his watch again, smiled.

Chancellor Stammer should be arriving shortly. Quite a fellow, from what I have heard. I had best make my way to the airport.

From his research, the Generalissimo had gathered that Osterstatt and Magdha were ideologically compatible; the chances of allying with them were great. As the Generalissimo liked to quip, one could never too many allies.

The man in question, one Albrecht Stammer, would be greeted with a lavish reception, including throngs of pulchritudinous dancing women, fireworks, a live orchestra, and a 21-gun salute. Then they would both be flown by helicopter to the Generalissimo's palace, where they would meet in private before having dinner. The Generalissimo had high hopes. If all went wall, Magdha would soon be counting Osterstatt among its list of friends.

Herr Stammer stepped off the plane, flanked on all sides by his personal storm troopers. Compared to the tall, well muscled, and sharply uniformed stormtroopers, the Chancellor was... Surprisingly average looking.

The man had a calm look upon his face, a beard beginning to grow in, and his brown hair neatly trimmed and groomed. He was of average height, had green eyes, and wore a black turtle-neck tucked into Khaki pants held up by a silver buckled belt.

His calm countenance surveyed the scene, his face looking starkly different from his judgmental eyes.

A smile stretched thinly on his lips as he looked up at the fire works, The orchestra, the salute, the whole reception made him feel welcomed.

Approaching the Generalissimo with determined steps, the chancellor spoke with a voice strangely powerful for his unimposing look.

"My friend, My brother, You humble me with this greeting. You have spent far too much on me. Regardless, my thanks goes without limit, for that you have been so lavish in reception tells me that you are either desperate or sincere for Osterstatt's friendship. Given the state of affairs, I would guess towards the latter. I must say however, I am not a fan of the... display... of the women. However, I recognize that it is above all important for a nation to retain their natural culture, and I know that I am no longer in Osterstatt. You will forgive my impasse in this manner, but the enjoyment of such.. spectacle is not the way of Osterstatt. I assume we shall enjoy this party and then adjoin somewhere less... receptive of large flying machines for diplomacy?"

The chancellor gave a sly smirk in the air field as another rocket bust in the sky.

The Generalissimo gave the Chancellor a firm, powerful handshake. "Welcome to Magdha, my friend. These festivities may seem excessive to you, but they are befitting a man of your caliber and prestige. Esteemed men such as yourself deserve only the best. You are correct in that this 'lavish reception,' as you call it, is a mark of our sincere desire for friendship. I hope our nations can grow close." He cleared his throat, gestured to an armored helicopter idling on the runway ten meters ahead. "This way, please, Chancellor."

"well Generalissimo, as the romans used to say 'you are but a man', hmm?" With a chuckle and a smirk, the Chancellor of Fascist Osterstatt followed the Generalissimo to the helicopter, bringing along a Stormtrooper captain for protection.

Within minutes, they were airborne and en route to the Generalissimo's palace, an absolutely massive and heavily fortified complex with a level of defense worthy of a small country. The helicopter circled and landed, setting down on the helipad adjacent to the main entrance. "Here we are."

((OOC: it would be a real help if I could get more than tiny snippets to reply to.

IC:

The Chancellor looked around the palace and smiled "A palace befitting the father of a country" and followed the generalissimo inside to discuss matters.

The Generalissimo smiled. "Thank you. My presidential salary is well spent, I'd say. I am glad you appreciate it."

The place was truly spectacular. The bejeweled walls and ceilings glittered with priceless gems, golden hand-crafted statues of the Generalissimo were lined up in almost military formation along the walls, there were golden fountains filled with champagne, chandeliers whose costs rivalled the budgets of middle-income countries, and hundreds of portraits by virtually every important artist in world history. The Generalissimo led the Chancellor down a long, torch-lit hallway with crimson carpet, discussing the history of Magdha. He had just come to the part where he seized power through a mostly bloodless coup when they arrived at the conference room.

"Ah. Here we are."

They stepped inside, and the Generalissimo sat down in a cushioned armchair made of solid gold, gesturing to a similar chair opposite him.

When both men were seated, the Generalissimo summoned a servant, who inquired if the two gentlemen cared for something to drink.

"A mojito, please," the Generalissimo said, and once both men ordered their drinks, the servant left the room with a small bow. When they were alone, the Generalissimo turned to the Chancellor and said, "Now, then. What shall we discuss first? Trade, defense, cultural exchanges, or...?"

When the servant returned the chancellor took his cranberry juice and sipped it, awaiting the departure of the servant. When the servant left, the Chancellor set down his drink and began to speak

"Trade agreements... We in osterstatt wish to develop ourselves into a true nation. As such, we seek to establish autarky, that is to say we wish for our economic status to be, in effect, self sufficient. Now this does not mean we are entirely unwilling to trade. Rather, as a third way nation, we do not wish to fall under the sway of capitalism or communism. Osterstatt will bow to no nation, not even economically. We will only be willing to engage in economic trade if we find no sufficient risk of dependency.

As far as defence goes, I am more than happy to bring my country into a mutual defense agreement. As a matter of fact, Osterstatt's military is being drastically revamped and given increased spending. It is my belief that one should not be a citizen for his country unless he is willing to die for it. I hope that Magdha will be willing to enter into some sort of defensive pact with us. It should be noted, that we do lack nuclear prowess, yet not for long. We hope soon to be able to focus the power of the atom into the obliteration of those nations unfit to walk this earth.

Now, where I beleive we should focus our discussion is on the matter of our varying Ideologies. While I beleive it can be said that both of us are admirers of Fascism and that we recognize that the state and military be above all other concerns. There is the issue of totalitarianism. This is where I do feel concern.

I mean no true offense, but you seem to have established a... prodigious cult of personality. this is based solely upon your rather lavish palace. If it is merely the results of your presidential salary, forgive me, if it is corruption that you have utilized to build this manner, also forgive. But if you are trying to build a cult of personality around yourself, I do not say forgive me.

It is very important to realize that the leader of the nation is the nation, that he is the embodiment of the ideals and the spirit of all it's people. He is the father of the nation. Yet to propagandize onself is to draw the citizens attention away from the nation, and to put it on oneself. This brings to light fears of the people of their loss of freedom, though they do not realize that they are gaining more than they ever had in exchange for this false liberalist idea of "freedom". I would encourage, and even help you to pay for, a propagandization campaign to put the attention of your citizens on the state.

You will still maintain your power of charisma, perhaps even gain more, because if you inform the people of the greatness of their nation, they will look to you with true awe and respect for being able to master the nation. To encourage patriotism within the State is to encourage a more stable regime, for if the attention of the people is placed mostly upon their leader, when such a time comes as he passes, who then will the people turn to? Perhaps the communists and liberalists, to bring the state back into their wretched falsehood of being. No, the Regime must stand strong, and a true leader must place the state above all else, the future must also be thought of."

The Generalissimo frowned, if just slightly. "Autarky is a self-defeating policy. Free trade enriches all parties involved. Capitalism has been proven, time and again, to be not only the most efficient economic system, but the most moral one. In fact the only moral one.

A mutual defense agreement would be most excellent. This way, in the event that any nation attacked you, not only would Magdha come to your aid, but so would all our allies.

I concur fully. The leader is the nation. As Louis XIV is once said to have remarked, 'I am the state.' I recognize that I am the loving Papa of my people, and they in turn recognize this."
