It had been 28 months since he had been forcefully removed from power by the Dictator for Life, but now all was normal for President Arnold and his cabinet, or it should've been. President John Arnold was sitting in his chair, reading the morning's papers, and was shocked to read the headline "Citizens clamoring for monarchy, demands President resign."

He sat there for a few moments blinking, and then the new intelligence chief of the "Calizorinstanian Intelligence Agency", Bob Sprouse entered the room. Bob said "Mister President, there's been an uprising in Alpine, of an angry mob, should we try to appease them, or crush them by force?" President Arnold rubbed his chin, this was all about the state of the United States of Calizorinstan, the federal republic government must be preserved at all costs, and yet he did not want to be seen as a tyrant.

He said grimly "If it's a monarchy they want, then.." John stood to his full height, he sighed and he said "I warn the people, monarch's will make them work on construction projects, and conscript their sons into the royal army. Nethertheless, it seems as though the people have lost faith in a democratic system. Well.." John finally finished his original sentence "Then they shall get a monarchy. I do not intend to be the monarch of course, but, the people probably do not want me as a monarch, yet I see no suitable candidates on the horizon."

President Arnold sighed and he said "Well, Mister Sprouse, what do you propose we do?" Bob said "Mister President, I believe, looking through all the members of the cabinet, there are no suitable candidates for president. They'd all go Solomon or David in a few years." John sighed and he said "Couldn't there be an easier way? An election, or shall we cast lots for the job? As long as we don't get a King Saul figure."

President Arnold sighed and he said "Well, I've decided against a monarchy for now. Just send in the 155th Infantry Battalion, and the 55th Armored, and we'll show 'em, that I intend to preserve the union.."

Dusk was falling, and soon night would be descending on the war-torn town of Alpine, which had a lucky break, having without civil war or such tarnish in 5 years. But, in the last few weeks, the monarchist's had armed themselves via a daring raid on a laxly protected armory in the Zcehgutagh area, 45 miles from Berlin. They were armed with M-14's, and M-4's, but nothing much else then that. They did not have much money.

However, they were potent fighters, when they were united under the command of General Pontiphar Montgomery, a rogue general from the Army. General Montgomery was their key to success in this struggle against the government, and Lt. Terry Callous knew this as he patrolled the street, sweeping the area with the barrel of his M-14.

If they had a fault, he decided it was the lack of intelligence, who knows if the government forces would strike tonight. Lt.Callous thought that they would strike tonight, but unfortunately, Montgomery's opinion was that they would not. Terry thought to himself "That self-centered pompous brat does not know a thing about warfare, he's only using tactics from well known battles to make himself look like a competant general." Lt.Callous thought he heard the familiar whine of a battalion of tanks coming up the valley.

Then he saw an artillery shell fly overhead, and land precisely smack dab in the middle of the officer's mess hall, and he heard the explosion! He shouted at the top of his lungs "Oi! Hannibal ad portas!! The enemy is at the gates you dummies!" He heard the scramble of men in nightgowns, running out with shotguns, and often only their personal weapons, M-1 Garand rifles that they got at enlistment.

More artillery shells were falling, and finally Terry had to take a position in the upper story of a town hall building, after nearly getting blown to pieces by a shell landing nearby. Terry thought "They've certainly studied Trenton, that intel report of the 155th Armored, and the 3rd Infantry Battalion moving north, fooled us all. That was a false report by the enemy, in order to lure us into complacency." He finally decided, if the town fell, he would surrender. Terry yelled out the window, "Fall back!, I see the M-3 Arbiter tanks coming up, followed up by the Marines!" He was almost shot in the head by an advancing Calizorinstanian Marine. Terry ducked down, and then he decided to stay where he was.

Terry heard the screams of the dying men, and the roars of the guns blazing all about, and now and then, he'd take pot shots at the Marines advancing on the city. Finally, the guns stopped blazing, and the screams died out. Terry knew that the city was lost. The whole garrison, except he, Lt. Callous, had been wiped out. Terry fashioned a flag out of his shirt, and waved it out of the window signaling surrender.

"Alpine Rebel Garrison destroyed in a surprise ambush"

The daring ambush was planned by General Hardbeck, the renowned general. In the fighting, rebel general Pontiphar Montgomery was killed. Montgomery was one of the best tacticians the monarchist forces had. The Battle of Alpine City will go forever down in the annals of Calizorinstan history as the battle that delivered a crushing blow to the monarchist forces. If we have but three more of these battles, the war will be over."

"A decoy intel report was sent to the rebel quarters in the city, specifically to General Montgomery, that led him to believe that the government forces were not anywhere near, but instead were going up north to do a training exercise. More on Page 2-B.."
