West Corinthia

One year ago, West Corinthia's major cities lay in ruin. Scattered pockets of government soldiers struggled to protect the nation's massive nuclear stockpiles from terrorist hands. The situation was chaos, and peacekeepers were reluctant to enter the region for fear of their own safety.
But now the situation has changed. After one short year of reconstruction West Corinthia has been restored to its previous aesthetic beauty. Monuments to the country's many past wars adorn nearly every street corner of every city. Life is returning to normal.
On this anniversary of the country's return to stability, the Czar had another important announcement. One year ago he had led a violent military rebellion against the theocratic "Tribunal" that had seized the country and assassinated the former Czar, Aleksei Kotov, thus ending the Kotov dynasty. The Tribunal had murdered close to one million civilians and shaken the country to its core. The man now called Czar Ptolemy, then a general in the army, had used his influence to overthrow the Tribunal and declare himself Czar of West Corinthia.
The people were happy to have a monarchy once more after the disastrous theocracy. However, Czar Ptolemy knew that a monarchy had its disadvantages as well. Therefore, he made this announcement:
"Henceforth, the Senate of West Corinthia will truly be representative of the people. The Senate will have the authority to enact and enforce minor legislation pertaining to domestic issues in West Corinthia. I will, however, maintain veto power on anything they pass.
Furthermore, the senators will be chosen in free and open elections. I will no longer hand pick candidates to fill positions in the Senate. Candidates for the Senate must have served 10 years in the Corinthian military and be native-born or naturalized citizens.
Additionally, the right to vote for senators will be extended to foreign-born, naturalized citizens."
As a result of the Czar's announcement, political parties have rapidly formed in West Corinthia. The following parties have created bases in the capital city, Ostia:
Corinthian Imperialist Party. Strength: Very Strong. Platform: Pro-monarchy, expand colonies, strengthen military, protect environment
Corinthian Democracy Now Party. Strength: Moderate. Platform: Expand democracy, liberate colonies, increase civil rights, increase political rights
Corinthian Progressive Party. Strength: Moderate. Platform: Create welfare system, protect environment, increase civil rights, increase government size
Corinthian Communist Party. Strength: Very Weak. Platform: Workers' rights, minimum wage, communal ownership of property
Corinthian Theocratic Party. Strength: Very weak. Platform: Religious values in daily life, strict enforcement of law, conservatism
The Corinthian military has also announced that it has returned to full combat strength and is prepared to meet any threat, domestic or foreign. West Corinthia has been known to engage in extensive peacekeeping operations in the past, so many speculate that deployment of the Corinthian military is now inevitable.
OOC: Ahhh, it's good to be back. Any familiar faces around here?
