For a while I have wanted to try out FT, but haven't known where to start. So i was watching Stargate one night and noticed the replicators....

I think you know where I am taking this, as for now I am thinking on setting up an Intro where a long forgotten ship is sending out a SOS and then someone comes by and searches the ship. Finding no life on scanners they board and bring some replicators with them, after a few surprises on the ship of course....

from there just spread the chaos across the universe....

though you can call them whatever you want....crew records will call them the Omega project.

I'm looking for someoneo loss a few ships to me and to determine weather this should be a charater RP or not, though since it will be exploration on an abandon ship then it probably will be.

I'd be interested. I think you can make a great Character RP out of this.

Replicators are a parasitical mechanical 'lifeform' of sorts that tend to consume all resources and technology in their vicinity to literally self-replicate. They are constructed of modular parts called 'blocks', and can use these blocks to take various forms, with their traditional shape being some manner of mechanical spider/crab. They are immune to energy weapons, though their constituent blocks can be shattered by projectile weapons. Like the Borg of Star Trek fame, they also tend to cannibalise any technology they come across, meaning the more advanced the ship they invade, the more advanced the replicators on board are likely to be, though they typically have no real interest in organic lifeforms unless they get in their way.

There is also a more evolved, rarer version of the traditional replicator, which uses much smaller blocks or nanites in order to take humanoid form (which acts more like the T1000 from Terminator 2 more than anything else), but these came about as a plot device sometime along their development.

A much more eloquent and detailed description can be found on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Replicator_%28Stargate%29

Solar Communes has grey goo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_goo) weapons of mass destruction, which are close to replicators in concept, but due to realism they are very slow to actually start dealing any damage, however that only makes things worse to feel your own skin being slowly dissolved by self-replicating nanites in a torture which leads any victim of it to agonize for 4 hours before finally dying. It's more of a psychological weapon than anything else and is forbidden to be used in planets for their capability of slowly, but steadily destroying an entire ecosystem and all life.

Actually it's more or less the same thing, but Solar Communes grey goo isn't actually sentient, just a very sinister sort of WMD:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_goo#Grey_goo_in_science_fiction(Warning , it has spoilers)

In the Stargate Atlantis season 4 episode... [spoiler]... Ancient Replicator nanites... [more spoilers here].

Of course, they'll also dissolve any foreign nanite in the process unless it replicates more efficiently than them.

SO far here is the basic plot I got:

A heavily damaged ship is floating towards a star, the engines are blown out and and all energy going into an SOS beacon. Approach shows the ship was terren in nature, with numerous railgun anti-ship rounds put in the sides. Inside your characters will find out what happened to the ship, find the Omega project secrets and what happened to the crew. Depending on your actions you will unlock more secrets. Such as the race who created them, how far they have come, how fast they adapt....etc....

So if will start a sign up thread soon for characters...
