Animarnia

Animarnia; Port Elizabeth, Fenton
Over a period of 100 years Animarnia had spread its wings; it had grown and prospered; villages had become towns; and towns cities and then cities became metropolises’ and ‘Mega-cities’ some called them growing from a nation of just under ten million people to a nation of over six billion. But with growth comes change and with any nation with such a population space becomes an issue; so Animarnian Engineers had expanded ‘upwards’ as well as outwards creating some of the tallest buildings in the world used as office blocks and apartment buildings. But the streets were still crowded daily rush hours became the thing of nightmares and of course there was the heat. It was always hot in Animarnia; not just slightly hot either but horridly hot, like someone had left the thermostat at a hundred and it’d been running all day dumping heat into the room till everything caught fire and burned everything to dust kind of hot. And so; when new land was found; new land with no claim or population to be displaced. The Government had snapped it up. The First Expedition had found all the basic resources; food; water, farm-able land and space – wide open space as far as the eye could see which made it very appealing for the arrearage Animarnian citizen. So posters were pinned and flyers were distributed advertising for people to build a new life in new land. Surprisingly nearly 50,000 people had applied for the opportunity to get away from the huge sprawling cities of the homeland for a quiet more peaceful life. Daniel was one such man; he now stood on the docks of Port Elizabeth carrying all his worldly possessions having given up a high profile job as a software engineer for one of Animarnias largest Multi-national giants. He stood with his wife Clara next to him; a beautiful red headed young woman with coppery hair which came down to near her chin and was cut nearly around her ears and only slightly longer at the back. And in front of Daniel and Clara stood their two children - Maggie and Phillip. A large crowed had gathered into the cue waiting for the boats to start taking passengers; the sunshine beating down and gleaming off the cold steel. The six positively gigantic transports would be used to ferry the some 50,000 colonists, 2000 Army Regular and all the supplies they would need to start construction of and perhaps more importantly defend the colony from attack. One carrier group was already waiting at the Nova Straight and would be heading with them for defence of the colonists in transit and would loiter for flyovers to help explore there new home. This however was nothing compared to the crowd that had gathered just behind the docks barriers to see the ‘Pilgrims’ off. A huge crowd of well wishers and family members alike and those passers by just sucked in to see what was going on had they been living under a rock for the last month.

Finally the horn was sounded as the large steel doors of the massive transport ships lowered to allow the colonists to start boarding finally finished with the supplies it was time to move the people on; everything was incredibly well organised. With several lines forming per ‘boat’ where their ID would be inspected quickly and they would be issued new passports; the process on the whole took less than 2 hours to complete thanks to the incredible efficiency of the Animarnian Officers on duty. And with all final checks completed; they were away…to there new land…
