The Prime Minister has returned form a State Visit to Akimonad with an agreement that will see Akimonad receive [half a trillion dollars'] worth of Praetonian-built Cavalier-class destroyers (http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom/index.php?showtopic=2779). Praetonia's escort-building military shipyard companies have just completed the Imperial Navy's production run of Cavaliers with the commissioning of the PWS Royal George last month. The warship's designer, which receives a royalty for each vessel constructed, said that the deal indicated that the ship had the potential to become a successful export product.

The move has received some criticism from anti-proliferation groups who call for tighter controls on arms exports, claiming that the "laissez faire consensus" might lead to Praetonian defence products being used against the Crown Commonwealth in war. Akimonad had been viewed as a potential undependenable export partner.

However, the Prime Minister later informed the House of Commons that relations with Akimonad had recovered substantially from that country's withdrawl from the Questerian Commonwealth and that a mutual defence treaty had been signed by both parties. The Prime Minister said that he believed the agreement "was good for all the peoples of Haven" and would hopefully mark the beginning of normalisation of relations between Akimonad and other Haven powers alienated by its break with Questers.

The news comes as a relief to pro-diplomacy groups after an APOC-Gholgoth conference collapsed in Questers yesterday following an argument between the representatives for The Crimm, Clandonia and Automagfreek.

Kent, Akimonad -- Dr. Hodz hailed a new agreement with the Crown Commonwealth of Praetonia as "a step in the right direction".

"Haven and the world have been alienated by APOC-Gholgoth squabbling," he said. "We believe agreements like these can eventually bring those to an end."

The deal provides for a mutual defense pact, as well as the transfer of 255 Cavalier-class destroyers, which will bolster the ADF Navy's destroyer fleet, which has been using outdated prototype destroyers that have since been withdrawn.

Dr. Hodz also spoke on Praetonian fears over use of the destroyers against Praetonia in the case of the outbreak of a war.

"We just gained another ally here. We're certainly not going to try anything. We hold our allies in high esteem." he said.

With Praeto-Akimonadi relations warming, there may be a trend towards more friendly relations with the QC and perhaps APOC.

"We hope to have friends on all sides," Dr. Hodz stated.

Domestic reaction was generally positive, with opposition coming from groups generally shunned as being lunatic by the general populus, including the Communist Front, an illicit group which supports Kahanistan and Hogsweat. The so-called "CF" released a statement denouncing the agreement as "another step towards Tsarism."
