Hijack (MT, open)

The Sharf superjet was cruising peacefully through the air at a speed of 250kmph. Spread over five floors, the superjet could hold up to 1,000 passengers.

The captain, Goronev, hit the small black switch that controlled the intercom.

"Hi there folks, this is your captain speaking. We have just left Kurkas airport and should be arriving at our destination in 6 hours. Predictions indicate little turbulence, so please sit back, relax, and enjoy your flight."

When the announcement had finished, a man folded his newspaper and stood up. The other five men in the private cabin followed suit. As one, they reached up and pulled identical silver cases from the ceiling rack. Opening them, the plucked a top layer arranged with camera equipment and dropped them on the seats. They then all retrieved a variety of weapons from the hidden bottom shelf.

"Load up." Said the leader of the men, Malovitch.

"For god." Replied the other four.

"Search the plane, make sure there aren't any security personnel aboard. If there are, kill them. Tarkik, head for the cabin. Put on these." Malovitch handed Tarkik a set of flight attendant overalls.

"Remember, there is no going back. Here, it ends."

The four men bowed, and left the room. Malovitch was on his own. He turned, sighing, massaged his temples. He then slung his SPAS12 shotgun over one shoulder, and picked up a H&K MP5K. Checking it was loaded, he picked up a video camera. He activated it, connecting it to a news station via satellite uplink. As the screams and gunfire began down below, he spoke.

"This is Malovitch Peurzen. I am in control of flight SH-KU-995. If my demands are not met, this plane will crash and burn.

Firstly, all imprisoned members of the Pakain, Weirmalt, and Brushk groups will be released.

Secondly, When and if this plane lands, a black hawk helicopter will be waiting, fully fuelled, and mounted with chainguns. Aboard will be K50,000,000.

If anyone attempts to board this plane, or halt us in any way, the C-6 explosive all over the craft will be detonated."

Malovitch cancelled the link.

Tarkik entered the cockpit, and the pilot turned to see who it was.

"Who are yo-"

Tarkik pulled a AK-74U sub machine gun from his jacket, and held it to the man's head.

"Listen. Do not speak. You will not land. Instead, you will circle around to Welmunt airport. Circle until instructed to land. I will sit here. If you move, i will kill you."

Any believable role you can think of, play it. Just remember, if you are good guys, the fate of 1000 innocents rests on your shoulders.

Lt Emiko Surabachi had been enjoying some shore leave away her ship and looked just like any other young woman of asian descent.

There was nothing to indicate she worked in space as a botanist and had also gathered local plants to bring back to the 'NKS Empress Midori'.

This flight would have brought her to the last leg of her journey before she was beamed back to her ship but her comm badge and honour blade had to be left in her case while the flight continued.

Seeing armed men with sub-machine guns and other weapons would spoil your day although. She was calm as others panicked round her knowing this was the only way she'd probally stay alive.

She was a scientist but her culture was a warrior one. Right now she was in the same boat as the other passengers so had to sit tight.

FSS Agamemnon's Wrath, CVNX-43, 200 NM SH-KU-995

"Sir, incoming civilian traffic," the Comm officer announced in the ship's CIC. AT over 1300 ft long, the Thor-class carrier was the largest ship in the Commonwealth's surface fleet.

"Go ahead," the TAO, Lt. Cdr. Marcus Adsen answered.

This is Malovitch Peurzen. I am in control of flight SH-KU-995. If my demands are not met, this plane will crash and burn. Firstly, all imprisoned members of the Pakain, Weirmalt, and Brushk groups will be released. "Increase the alert status, set a flight standing by at Alert-5 and send a FLASH message to Fleet Command," Adsen ordered.

Malovitch descended the spiral staircase to the main passenger deck. he swiftly and purposefully strode into the seating area, where the passengers had been ordered to sit with their hands over their heads.

Waltzing to the entertainment controls, he tuned the national news to the in-seat LCDs. A reporter was standing outside the governmental office. The volume was raised.

"I'm here outside the Nurnburg, where it has come to our attention that 30,000 feet above our heads, armed terrorists have taken control of a passenger plane. They demand the release of several political prisoners, along with a considerable sum of money. If these demands are not met, they will destroy the plane. Government officials are currently..."

Malovitch terminated the link. He turned towards the crowd.

"You heard correctly. They had better meet our demands. Because i certainly have no qualms about killing you. You, come here."

He pointed to a young boy, around 7 years. The timid looking boy stepped up to Malovitch, trembling in his boots. But his face remained steely.

"It is good that you are scared. It shows respect." Sneered Malovitch. "Turn around."

The boy turned, and his frightened eyes locked onto his teary mother.

"Stop!" She cried, jumping from her seat.

Malovitch drew his custom Colt Python revolver. The weapon was already cocked. The single heavy slug blew a sizable hole in the mother's head. She dropped to the floor to a chorus of screams.

"SHUT UP!" Screamed Malovitch, raising the gun again. The crowd fell silent.

"You get that?" He asked the man opposite them, holding yet another uplinked video camera. The terrorist nodded.

"Good." Malovitch walked up to the screen. "One an hour. Starting now. And in another eight hours, they all die."

The Neo Kirisubans didn't see life the same as other people.

Naturally they wanted to to live but growing up in a warrior culture and part of the generation that watched the dead walk and her planet die Emiko didn't fear this.

Death came eventually to you and that was karma. It might be her turn soon if that was her destiny but she sat tight trying to figure out how to get to her luggage.

Quite a task given where she was now and all the cases on board but she could escape if she got her comm badge as unlikely as the prospect was.

Even seeing a woman die in front of her didn't shake her up. She also knew a government was unlikely to talk to terrorists.

###

On board her starship in orbit Captain Megumi Sato had been informed by the authorities her crew woman was on the hijacked plane. It wasn't as if she could just beam her off because Neo Kirisuban's were human just like the others on the plane.

A beam off couldn't be focused anyway without a comm signal and the whine of the beam would just alert the hijackers who would just kill hostages.

All she could do was hope her botanist could keep her head and get lucky if surviving this was her destiny.

Congressman Johann Jurgens sat uncomfortably. Though hijackings were not common occurrences, they were virtually unheard of in the Commonwealth. He hoped that they wouldn't learn his identity. As a rule, he never traveled with identification stating his was in Congress, but his foreign ID might be enough to pique their interests.

FSS Agamemnon's Wrath

"Holy Christ," Captain Anderson said as he read the intel report. Ever since the alert sounded, the Agamemnon's CO had been glued to the CIC. And now with this report...

"A Congressman," the CAG, Captain Jana Aruel added. "And not a no-name one at that. He's Defense Directorate."

"Launch fighters, but keep them outta Sharf airspace until we get the okay," Anderson suggested.

"Yeah, small steps, right?" Aruel answered.

From: Commonwealth Defense Directorate, CFUS
To: Sharf Government
It has come to our attention that your flight SH-KU-995 has been hijacked by extremists and are currently holding the crew and passengers hostage. Onboard that flight is a Commonwealth citizen, Congressman Johann Jurgens. We consider the safe delivery of the Congressman and the other passengers to be of the highest priority. Our aircraft carrier FSS Agamemnon's Wrath is within proximity to provide any assistance necessary, but we will not violate national sovereignty without authorization.

Emiko didn't know anybody else on the flight and she was totally unaware she was only 10 feet away from a congressman.

Since her nation wasn't on Earth Emiko's travel documents came from the NSUN and had her photo, nation (or rather planet in her case) of origin and she was designated for the purpose of the documents as Neo Kirisuban diplomatic staff even although she held a military rank.

A passport that would get her into serious trouble if it was checked. She sat wearing a short denim skirt and a white vest top but her passport was in her little handbag in her overhead locker.

*****The office of Hendol Mendeleef, SUU (Sharf undercover unit) director *****

Mendeleef stared at the live reports in front of him. A plasma screen to his right was broadcasting a news report... a goddamn news report... on the unfolding crisis.

Christ, thought Mendeleef, Can't those media dogs show a little restraint? That's encouragement, pure and simple.

He grabbed the phone, and hit speed dial 5.

"Hans, I need you to head down to the SNN (Sharf News Network) headquarters. Deal with our little publicity problem. I don't know. Be imaginative. And call the riot police. Have the reporters rounded up. Yeah, inciting public unrest, and scaremongering."

He replaced the phone, and sat down. It rang. mendeleef was on it in an instant.

"Sir, we have a transmission from a forgien power. They have a congressman on board the flight and wish to dispatch fighters onto the plane."

"Shit". Exclaimed Mendeleef. Now, an international political crisis was unfolding.

"Alright, grant them permission to tail the jet with their fighters. Don't get too close. We don't want to give these Fascist bastards a motive."

"Sir".

The line went dead. Mendeleef sat for a while, hands rested in his head. He knew the consequences if he messed this up.

After a while, he opened his file again, cross scanning the passenger list with active agents. Surely, someone must be on that flight that could do something. Even a policeman.

Official communique to the FSS Agamemnon's Wrath.

We have received your transmission. You have our permission to enter our airspace to trail the aforementioned flight. Be warned, these guys are jumpy bastards. Don't let them see your jets. At this present time,. we are working towards saving all hostages.

Malovitch was pacing the VIP lounge, with the occupants head down on the bar. A click at the door alerted him to another hijacker, entering the bar. His RPD heavy machine gun rested on a shoulder harness, occasionally clanking into his knees. He was holding four bundles. They looked like rucksacks.

"These are all i could find, sir. One was missing."

"Dissapointing," stated Malovitch, "But of no consequence to me. Load them in the cabin. Oh, and what did our mole in SUU have to say?"

"Sir, they have the money loaded."

"Good. Tell him to get it if he can. If not, don't worry."

"Sir."

The other man turned around and left the bar.

120 NM Agamemnon's Wrath, outside Sharf airspace

The pair of Rafale-M fighters had been holding station for the longest time. In the lead plane, Lt. Cameron 'Shaft' Davis waited impatiently. How long would it take-

"Ghost flight," the comm chirped.

"Ghost flight/Base, read your traffic," Davis answered.

"You are given permission to turn 090 into Sharf airspace. Trail target at *BVR for the time being."

"Thought you'd never ask," Davis said, signaling his wingman to follow as he dipped his wings and changed course. He pushed the throttle up, keeping an eye on the radar as it tracked towards the airliner.
