Call to all Fantasy Nations

Telros

I know I did one before, seeking help with an undead nation, but I have changed to an elven one. It is ready for rping with anyone who has a fantasy nation. I know there are some threads already, and would like to see what they are. I am up for anything, war, diplomacy, character rps, etc etc. Consider this a thread to come advertise your threads, be they established or potential ones.

You know me, I'll just play the Andermani, as per usual amigo.

Well, guys, here's the deal. I am playing a Fantasy Nation, as in swords, magic, and the like. So I don't want space ships or anything of the like coming in. I want to keep it on the level, or at least around the level they are at.
Angaor

Im willing to play too!

Andermani were real primitive long before they were the Empire. I can do primitive.

Angaor: Alright, let's rp a first contact thing then. Do you want to start or shall I?
Soviet Steam
31-03-2008, 02:39
I would like to participate, although Soviet Steam is more of an steampunk nation with some Slavic mythology inspired fantasy than conventional fantasy.

I can compensate by making conditions where all the airships, steam tanks, automatons and gunpowder weapons aren't simply accessible by characters. And anyway I balance it with a "Magic vs. Technology" theme, it's impossible for a character to master both.
Telros
31-03-2008, 03:10
Agreed. I don't mind technology in your nation in steampunk. After all, I am sure it will force my nation to go to gunpowder and start having cannons on its ships instead of archers. However, mostly it would be countered by magic. But, thats if we fight.

What would you like to do with the Elven nation of Atanarr?
Soviet Steam
31-03-2008, 03:43
First, they never saw Elves, Dwarves, Trolls and alike, the fantasy stuff I employ is pretty much dark fantasy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_fantasy) and all non-human sentients and "magically tuned beings" are spiritual and quite mythical(more like the "Lake Ness Monster" because most never saw them in their lives and some even claim they are just legends and fairy tales) rather than made of flesh and bones. What they know are Baba Yagas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baba_Yaga), the infamous Kashchey, the Deathless (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kashchey) and alike. The following posts explain pretty much what the average Soviet Steam citizen thinks about magic and what sort of fantastical things that exist in their lands:

http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13401653&postcount=21

http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13403546&postcount=25

But this quote briefs it all:

The technological People's Republic of Soviet Steam and New Russian Republic and the magical Theocracy of Perun and Yaga Kingdom were constantly warring for the both coal and magical amplifiers rich territory and no man's land known as The Badlands: flying beasts against airships, ironclads and steam submarines against sea beasts, the 57mm cannons of steam tanks against Baba Yagas' powerful spells, rifles and gatling guns against enchanted swords and repeating crossbows. Such clashes characterized the bloody, lifeless and scorched environment of the Badlands while secret polices and the military hunted those who delved into occult or worshiped pagan gods inside the territories of the technology-based nations as much as technologists and atheists were hunted inside the magic dominated countries. But some people sometimes simply born at the wrong place to develop their innate affinity with either magic or technology.

Now if you got the hint, I want to have a character ending there accidentally through some sort of magic called "random teleport", name says it all.

*Edit: Here its map (http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/8536/map5rp1.png) as a visual aid (Novaya Russia = New Russian Republic)

I would be interested in joining. I'm going the Fantasy Route myself, based on the older ruler of my countries people. They've always had a sort of evil, demon worshipping feel to them. I was going to just bring that out and get rid of most of the technology.

Haha, yeah. The important thing is that I'm back though. So hazah! You're probably vaguely familiar with how my previous PT-nation operated before more than anyone else around. So yeah, its good to see I'm still remembered!

@Soviet Steam: That sounds like fun. I need to read the stuff first, as I am posting before school right now, but I'm up for it.

@Antanjyl: Ooh, demons. Sounds like fun. After all, every nation needs a good enemy to fight. And Scand, it would be fun if you joined as well.

Any room for Goblins?
Antanjyl
01-04-2008, 01:50
@Toops: When is there not enough room for goblins?

I'll probably redo my entire factbook from scratch, using the old PT and MT ones.

I'll probably just edit most of the religious factbook (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=465218). So probably between Wednesday and Friday, the days I'll have the most freetime!

I already have goblins in my nation, NPC'd, but still there. So sure. Just dont be amongst the goblins in my nation; they're going to be taken for something soon.

I have a few questions, are factbooks mandatory, cos I loathe them, with furiousnessness, also, what's the staus on magic?
Telros

They aren't, but I will need to know about them. Also, what do you mean by the status of magic?
Toops

They aren't, but I will need to know about them. Also, what do you mean by the status of magic?

is it allowed?

is it banned?

is it allowed but restricted?

is it allowed, but not restricted, but still regulated?

is there a list of useable spells?

if so, are any of them limited?

do we require spell levels?

what's the science behind magic?

what's the limit to magic?

can we destroy the world?

are we limited to tickling a tiny ant?

are they ripoffs of the D&D spells?

can we summon things?

can we make undead?

can I make a massive undead army that conquers everything cos it requires no food and little maintainence?

if yes to the first question, would you now like to reconsider your answer?

is it written in dusty tomes?

does it recquire hours of preporation and a lot of words, visa vie, Buffy?

is it short sweet point and click magic, visa vie Harry "I'm mediocre, I'm mediocre, oh yes, I'm mediocre" Potter?

is it shunned?

is it socially accepted?

does it impact on the level of technology, as seen in the Eberron campaign setting?

does it hide under my bed at night?

does it prohibit the power of fighter classes?

am I limited in the number of spellcasters I can have?

please note, though the above are slightly humourous, purely in its sheer length, I am actually expecting an answer.

is it all around us?

is it exclusive?

is it evil?

is it good?

is it seperated between the arcane and the divine?

does it cause humans to suddenly turn into the elderly and begin spouting muffled complaints to fire encrusted demons?

does it cause evil peoples to suddenly start drinking suspisciously blood looking red wine and cackling manically, whilst wandering through their generic emo mansion?

I think that's enough to get you started on, have fun :P

Interested.

Play a fantasy CHARACTER. Don't really get the nations involved in my RP's except when absolutely necessary.

Character's a turned demon. I slide him up and down his timeline as appropriate, depending on how much power he needs. Usually, he's a great illusionist who can otherwise barely cast a fireball. Keeps down the godmodding. :) :) :)

Before I cringe my arse of, I should mention I misunderstood and though this was recruiting for a new fantasy earth, feel free to mock, I deserve it.... don't hurt me!!!

It's okay. Basically. you can have your own magic, as you have made it, just dont godmod with it.

LULZ Instead of elves and orcs I has commie airshaps and WWI planes "pew pew" fighting against giant flying mortars (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/ca/MortarPlantmaterial.jpg) rowed by pestles and crewed by Baba Yagas and multi-headed dragons.

http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13579158&postcount=243

Asides from this partly humorous comment(or maybe fail D: ), I would like to know whether it would be a problem to have a character to teleport randomly in your fantasy world with a pocket watch and some 1800s gadgetry including compasses and portable electric lamps powered by the first small batteries invented by Volta.

Can I play? The kingdom of Forthshore is willing to meet and trade with other fantasy nations.
Telros
03-04-2008, 19:58
Of course. What's your tech level?

I have to say no, Soviet. I don't want to expose my people to that as I want to keep them in the same era of technology, I don't want to go into fantasy with guns and all that. I'm going for traditional fantasy.
Forthshore
04-04-2008, 09:34
Forthshore's tech level is roughly 14th to 15th century earth. The cusp of plate armour. Mostly mail is used by the lower nobility but plate is creeping in as armourers learn new techniques.
The main missile weapon is the crossbow and the mounted knight is still king of the battlefield, supported by schiltrons of spear wielding townsmen and levies.
Rougpelt
04-04-2008, 13:46
My past tech is very much the epitome of it. Longbowmen, knights in the better forms of plate mail, men at arms in scale or chain, and infantrymen in Lorica segmentata. Mages are a fairly limited corps within the nation, and are mostly self governing. As a note, the longbowmen are in lorica as well.

Think of the Anderman Empire in the past as a very "Gondor" type kingdom.
Telros
04-04-2008, 15:53
Forthshore and MM, that is fine to have. Feel free to enter the intro thread. Just don't go overboard.
Antanjyl
05-04-2008, 05:58
I wouldn't mind entering the thread, but I doubt I would be much help at all to nations such as yours. As for the exact technology, I would say early vikings, since they primarily will be attacking by sea and waterways. These vikings are "knights of a sort" only instead of saving damsels in distress, they sacrifice the helpless up to their gods and defile and plunder religious temples and the like.

I finished some chunks of a fact book, behold for now! (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=553497) If theres anything you think it might need, tell me.
