OOC Thread: How Should I set up a military exercise?

I am looking to set up a military exercise thread to show off my new shiney military stuff, and, ICly, to let my soldiers get acclimated to them before they might need to use them for the real deal.

However, I have no idea what goes into something like that, so I would like some help. Those helping me would be free to join into the actual thread once I have set it up. Thanks in advance, everyone!

You can ask if another country will let your troops train in their country or you can just have a training area and just unless all fire power and practice your strategy

Example: Constant Vigil (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=549403).

What you want is to decide where, when, why. As you can see in CV, I've decided on NORDLAND CMTC, when is over the course of two weeks or so, and why is to see how the ARC handles various tactical vignettes as part of an operation they've been unexpectedly thrust into. Throughout the course of this equipment will be described and tested in simulated combat, et cetera. Good example of this already is the G128.

Firstly: Very tightly laid out rules.
Secondly: Very selective screening process, feel free to say 'no' to applicants.

Past that, you have two routes:
1: Preplanned events and 'themes'
2: General outline of operation as preface, throwing stuff together last-minute based on how previous excercise went.

But the big thing is detail and allowing a thread for those involved to pick their feet up and rest ICly while still being OOCly active.*

*A 'breakroom'/briefing thread

Also I would take the time to study up on military stratagy, Nothing fancy just the stuff you can get at any army surplus stuff. Especially if you are going with MT. Of course you can download many FM's from the net now. all you have to do is do a google search and look for free ones.

I'd keep it at a low level as well, no bigger than Brigade level. I found that having a photo/map combo of a area works well. While war games work well when dealing with small formations it starts to get far too vague when you start ramping it up to Corps level. Its no fun when peoples posts consist of 'I attack the town of _____ with 2 Divisions' because you can't really RP anything.

I'd be interested in taking part if people start pulling out manuals and try and do it properly. Should be a good crack.

That and read your basic strategic primers...

Sun Tzu's art of war for the rough truths
"Karl V. Clauswitz On War" for some well explained ideas, though his mechanics of war are a tad dated.
