(Hello, all. I've just made this threat here to describe certain elements of my nation for anybody who's interested. OOC comments are welcome during the making of this thread, as there is no planned stop point. It is ongoing, and it is my hope to improve how I portray my nation via input from those who read this.)

WARNING: The following post describes a prejudiced and actively racist state in which several ethnic, religious and social groups are actively persecuted as inferiors. It may also contain some offensive language. You have been warned.

The Protectorate of Saphronia

Part I: Society

For those not accustomed to severe religious and ethnic strife, spending time in Saphronia is often quite an intense experience. The country is run by a white, Christian minority that has ruled since the country was founded. The large part of this white, ruling class is found inside fifty miles from the nation’s coast. They dominate all the best farmland, dividing at least three quarters of the rich coastal soil in to large plantations, each of which is run and leased out in parcels by one of the country’s big leading families. The rest is coastal cities inhabited mostly by white citizens, open beaches and fishing communities.

Inland, things are terribly different. This is where the black and Islamic populations dwell in filth. Most of the nation’s blacks live inland, away from the fertile coastal regions, with little personal luxury. Also dwelling inland are white citizens who somehow displease the leaders of the nation and society, such as those of noteworthy black ancestry, those whose inclinations cause them to speak against the apartheid government, homosexuals, and those who practice Islam in some form. Both groups live in communities which closely resemble places seen in most third-world African countries, though admittedly there is not as much disease and it is fairly easy to get water, so long as you can pay suppliers from the coastal regions.

Enforced separations of whites and blacks can be seen everywhere. Blacks in the military have to serve in special ‘colored’ battalions with white officers, for example. Muslims and homosexuals are legally barred from joining at all, skin color aside.

Permit me to elaborate on the desired input. That's constructive input desired. Many thanks.

Hmm... This could make for an interesting RP, my nation is a fundamentalist Muslim country...

Indeed? Well, I should be very pleased to discuss possibilities with you. I can maybe see population issues being a bit of a problem, but not if things are handled as professionally as possible.

Feel free to send me a telegram if you wish. I also have MSN and YIM.

I've sent a reply. Do you have MSN or YIM? This would simplify things a lot, not to mention stop us cluttering this informational thread.

Part II: Muslims, Blacks, and Gays

It has been mentioned previously that Muslims, blacks and homosexuals in Saphronia are largely subjugate by the white leaders, but this bears a more detailed explanation before it is dismissed as being just like assorted nations in the world where apartheid is a practiced leadership system or the LGBT community is actively suppressed.

In the Protectorate, there are three groups which are actively and ruthlessly suppressed by harsh legislation enforced by brutal police forces.

First are Muslims. Anybody who practices Islam is subject to government oppression and legal restrictions, color aside.

Next are blacks. They are treated much as blacks were treated in apartheid South Africa a long time back, though perhaps not always quite as openly harsh.

Last, but not least, is the LGBT community.

If you live in Saphronia and you fall in to one of more of these groups, life can be a rough kind of experience, and the best thing to do is leave as soon as possible.

In the Protectorate, there is a legally established, imaginary line, which sits maybe twenty miles from the coast, roughly. It is known simply as the Demarcation Line, and it marks a line on the map west of which Muslims are not permitted to live without the legal permits handed out by the government to certain of the ‘undesirables’ who possess valuable skills in some way helpful to the Protectorate’s white ruling classes. Blacks and people with the LGBT community are not universally required to live west of the DL (though many are), but the living elsewhere is less than pleasant, and so many live there anyway.

In contrast to some myths, the Protectorate does not maintain concentration camps, and at least some effort is made to keep the oppressed happy enough to prevent rebellions, when it is necessary. The government will permit food shortages, for example, but when famine is imminent, they will take steps, albeit small as possible, to keep that from happening, though care is taken not to completely remove the problem.
