The IC Thread starts here, MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

Hyperboreia (What is now Northern Europe), October 10th, 800,000 BC.

The Great herds were on the move to the south. The Large mammoths were heading for the Valleys in the southern areas of Hyperboreia, the land of the North winds. The mammoths moved like an army heading for a Village.

and today a Hunting trip had become a battle for life......

The Neanderthal Hunters had been taken by surprise by the Horsemen. They were Hunting the great Mammoths when the attackers, rideing the Horses, caame for them.

with in minutes it was over for the hunters. Stone Weapons were useless against Iron Swords and arrows.

This was Hyperboreia.

Humans, iron and rideable horses didn't exist 800,000 years ago, neither did Neanderthals. There was only Homo Erectus.

Further north, by the shores of the Great Frozen Lake, the northern winds had abated. Herds of reindeer dug the frozen ground with their hooves, revealing a tinge of greenery here, a bit there, before devouring it. The land was a harsh mistress to these animals, but somehow they survived.

Standing on a hill top was a solitary figure, a young man garbed in leather and fur, with a bow and a quiver slung on his back, his hand holding a bone-tipped spear. He stood, watching, listening to the herd below him. It was not yet time for the culling. The females were still pregnant with their young, and last year's young were only now growing in size.

The young man looked up, his pale blue irises squinting in the last dying rays of the sun. He looked around, turning his gaze towards the south.

His face brightened, his lips turning into a toothy smile as he saw something in the horizon. Quickly, he turned on his skis and used the spear to give him momentum, letting him slide down the hill side.

He had seen a familiar shadow in the horizon. The war party was coming home. Coming home from after raiding Hyperborean lands to the south. With them would be his brother as well.

With that thought in his mind, the young man known to his people as Kei-has, 'Spear', slid down the hillside, his spear giving him momentum. He had to tell the village...

Thortork, Hyperborea.

Thortork was a small City in Hyperborea, not as grand as those to the South in Osiria, But it was one of the cities that was part of a small Kingdom, one of many that made up Hyperborea. In a Later era, this city would under what is now The Black Forest of Germany.

Rideing to the city was a group of riders on Horseback, with The Symbol of Thortork, a Horse and two Snakes near the sun.

Deniea, Queen of Thortork was in the lead, another day of Hunting Invaders that hunted on her lands. She was not Human, but a wolf, one that walked on Two Legs, Being one of the wolf people. Her Golden armor, lined with Cave Lion fur, shone in the sun like fire, her sword, know as Lion Slayer, was the reason the Armor was lined with fur.

Her second in Command, the Human Nimina (http://www.sue-chan.com/art/celtic_barbarian.jpg) rode next to her, along with the 400 other Humans and Furry Sapiens that where Deniea's Royal Guard.

"a messenger is heading our way." Deniea said as she saw a runner, a Neanderthal, heading their way, a messenger from King North-tok of Rhins.

The Messenger was a boy of 15. "Queen Deniea," He said in Hyperborean (which many slaves learned), "News from the North, Somii raiders attacked The Northern Boarder!"

"Looks like the Reindeer herders are at it again, Your Highness." Nimina said. It was well known that the Somii raided into Hyperborea from their cold homelands in the far North.

"Get The Riders ready to head North as Soon as Posable." Deniea said, Nimina bowed.

A small Atlantian search party roved across the icy lanscape of Hyperboreia. A carrier shipping dangerous material,Energy crystals, across the ice had crashed. It was imperitive that it was found. Nathanial Drycus, the pilot of the Atlantian 'Buzzer' craft was experienced in flying, but had never left Atlantis. The artificialy warmed cities contrasted to the barren ice. He reflected on this, then jumpng out of his stupor, heard the radar crewmen yelling "WE GOT IT!" He listened to the quardnates rattled off then dipped to the side.

OOC: Enough with the bumps, please...

IC:

The tribe had settled near the river, at the ruins of an old Hyperborean outpost. The ancient stones stood testament to the southlanders' failed attempts to bring their rule over the tribes of Somii, to place their bronze heel upon the head of the proud people of the tundra. The crumbling walls now sheltered the Wolf tribe from the freezing wind and the beasts - both human and non - that roamed the land in search of prey. The reindeer-skin tents were pitched, cooking fires sent out the rich smell of boiling meat and tubers into the air, children and dogs ran through the camp site.

All of this, however, escaped the attention of Kei-has as he ran in, shouting and laughing, his fur boots throwing packed snow into the air. "The war party is coming! The war party is coming home!" he yelled gleefully, almost dancing as he ran from tent to tent, grabbing children on the way, banging his spear against the wood and mammoth bone that held the tents up.

"What did he say?"

"The war party?"

"They are back? Where?!"

"Momma! Momma! Kei-has says daddy's coming home!"

"Spirits be praised!"

"Who saw them?"

"The war party is coming back!"

Kei-has laughed and danced like a young buck in spring, his news travelling from tent to tent, lifting spirits and hopes, wives looking up from their cooking fires, old men appearing from the tents to peer with dulled eyes. In front of the shaman's tent, a young woman dressed in a white deerskin coat looked up from the broth she was boiling, smiling to herself as she touched the necklace around her neck. She caressed the small sea shell that hung there, watching silently as Kei-has danced and yelled his news, surrounded by dogs and little children.

"I told you they would return, did I not?" asked a calm old man's voice from behind her. The young woman turned on her heels, looking up at the tall, grey-haired man that had appeared from the large tent decorated with skulls of beasts. The man wore a wolf-skin coat, his hair braided with small glass beads and feathers, his wrinkly face tattooed with blue ink. He was a noita, the shaman, the spirit-talker of the tribe who related the words of the ancestral and natural spirits to the tribe. He adjusted the wolfshead helm on his head and smiled down at the young woman.

"Well, did I not?" he asked, a hint of humour appearing in his eyes as he picked up his drum and sacred horn.

"Yes, father, you did", the young woman answered, bowing her head in respect. Even though he was her father, Aina knew that outside their tent she should always show the utmost respect for old Hen-ki. Father or not, he was still the highest among the tribe, save for chief Bear-Claw.

"Then worry not, child. I know your bethrothed is with them. I can hear his footsteps; he is burdened with loot from the Southlanders. He will offer a good bride-price for you"

The young woman lowered her head, and said nothing. Hen-ki frowned. Was his daughter not happy that Ranko, the son of Bear-Claw and the greatest warrior of the tribe was after her hand? That would be an honour for any other woman of the Wolf - but apparently not for Aina.

Hen-Ki shook those thoughts away and beated on his drum, the echoing boom of the spirit drum silencing the jubilation. Even the wild children and dogs held their tongues as the spirit-talker walked down, straight to Kei-has. The young man bowed his head, laying his spear on the ground.

"How far away?" Hen-ki asked.

"Not far, just beyond the edge of the world. They will be here before the sun rises again", Kei-has answered, not lookin up at the old man.

Hen-ki smiled and nodded. "Thank you, Kei-has. Now, run and tell the other herders. Tell them that their sons and brothers are coming home. The spirits have spoken; they come bearing great spoils!"

The last words elicited a shrill, loud cheer from the Wolves, from man and woman, old man and child alike, even the dogs yipping and howling.

Soon, after almost two moons since the war party had left, the tribe would be whole again. Sons and husbands, brothers and fathers would be home. Married men would lay down with their wives, and young men would offer spoils of war to buy their wives.

The last of these thoughts made Kei-has look up. But as always, Aina looked aside. No wonder... she was promised to Ranko. And if Hen-ki's words were true, he would have the bride price fit for a noita's daughter.

Better than what a herdsman could ever offer...

Kei-has sighed to himself as he bound his skis back on. Suddenly he did not feel so jubilant anymore...

The Meeting Place, Middle Hyperborea

"These Raids are getting out of hand." yelled King Realerin of The Town of Minyani, his Lands were near Somiiland (as The Hyperboreans called The Lands of the Somii) "Two Towns at the Boarder were attacked and My own people are blameing ME!" "You are not the only one hit by the Somii raiders," said Lord Tantork, whoes lands were well know for herding the great Mammoths, "The raiders killed most of my Mammoths." Queen Deniea look at the others, all 23 Rulers of Hyperborea, "These Somii are like a pack of Hyenas, they attack and take what they want and kill the rest. That is why I am going North to handle these attackers." She said.

after The meeting of the rulers, she left to get 50 warriors from her lands and then head north for the shores of the Great Frozen Lake, to Somiiland.

That night the Wolves celebrated. Drums were beated, flutes were played, Hen-ki and his acolytes performed ceremonies and sang to bring the spirits' blessing upon the tribe. The war party had come home, backpacks heavy with bronze knives and axes, many bearing Hyperborean helmets. Cloth and furs, gold and spices were stolen from the villages, and the dogs pulling the sled laden with smoked meat looked especially relieved when they were cut loose.

Kei-has sat by himself by one of the fires, not really listening to the laughter of his fellow herdsmen as a waterskin filled with honey mead was passed around. He looked at Aina, who sat in the women's circle, looking at the jubilant warriors. Among the war party was the tall, handsome figure of Ranko, the chief's son and the leader of the war party, his spear sweeping in the air as he told the tribe how he and his men had swooped down on the unsuspecting town like a hawk attacking a frightened rabbit. Ranko had good reason to be proud; he had brought much loot with him. Twelve bronze knives, a helmet decorated with horsehair, a Hyperborean blade and three packs of silk. He would certainly be talking to Hen-ki soon...

The 50 warriors that Deniea had called on were soon in the valley of Odin. Deniea looked at all of them, knowing that most would not make it back alive. This raid into Somii would strike fear into the enemy.

"Warriors!" Deniea yelled. "Today we face a tribe of killer, thives and raiders that are attacking the land of Hyperborea. This Fight is for all Hyperboreans, our dead cry for revenge against the Somii, these raiders shall feel the wrath of our gods and spirits! So Sharpen your swords, ready your bows and go North and to Victory or DEATH!" the battle cries from the warriors sounded though out the Valley.

Tannakor

"Atlanteans, you say?" Lord Britac said to the scouts. "yes, they were in their flying boat." the first one said.

Great, this was all that he needed. The Great Britac, a warrior known to have fought 700 men and only one survived and he had no legs. Britac, the Terror of Tannakor, ruler of the Royal toll road, Britac the Great, was now thinking about how to keep the Atlanteans out.

The Hyperboreans never trusted Atlantis, who looked down at Hyperborea as a land of barbarians.

Well, they better run when Britac came after them, even though he was getting ready for in case the Somii attacked his lands.

oh well, War is as war does, as the old Hyperborean wisemen says.

Moving at steady pace its would be a 18 hour journey to meet the yokai and the southern part of the jade kingdom. Which is where he wanted to contain them at he knew the yokai moved at a fast pace. He was going to meet up another force of 50 men at the village to help beat the yokai. He dont want the yokai spreading to the central part of the kingdom especially so closed to the capital and the death count by his scouts was high which told him they count more than a 30 dead and they fought no suriviors. As the small force got out of sight of the capital the jade emperor thought more and more.

Two hundred Rathians gathered at an unknown location in Northern Canada. They were kept warm by the massive torches of fires set up so they can be used to scare away animals. The wolves and sabertooths had taken their toll on the Rathians, their numbers were down in 6,000, all spread out across Siberia and North America. However, further attacks of the Sabertooths were repelled by the "fire throwers". The Rathians managed to make North-West Canada a secure area, but rumors were that a massive herd of Giant Mammoths were heading toward North west Canada, after being constantly attacked by groups of sabertooths. The Rathians needed to stop them.

The Atlantians landed near the wreajage, scanning to see if any crystals had ruptured,if they had, they had just landed near a ticking time bomb. As the commandos carefully loaded the volotile crystals into cases Nathanial felt odd. He figured it was simply because he was used to flying around Atlantis. The Island continant was warmed by energy crystals that emmited power in great amounts and were only found on Atlantis. Unfortunatly, when they were outside of the power generators they tended to become very sensitive to movement and light. If they fracture it would make a massive explosion. One scientist estimated that if Atlantian generators went critical, it could sink the continent.

The celebrations of the Wolves lasted long into the night, but eventually the men and women began to return to their tents. Music slowly died out, the fires began to wane. On one of the poles before the shaman's tent were bound the armor and shield of a Hyperborean soldier, waiting to be sacrificed to the spirits as the tribe would move with the herds, heading southeast. The Somii never stayed long in one place, and it was time to move again as the herds were pushed on by the coming winter.

Kei-has slept restlessly that night, his mind vexed by anger towards Ranko. He had been chosen to lead the war party only because the was Bear-Claw's son. Kei-has, on the other hand, had been forced to stay behind. He was only a herdsman, not a warrior. And because of that, he could never gather the bride price from the spoils of war to ask for Aina's hand. No, she was practically in Ranko's bed if Hen-ki had his way.

There was also another reason for Kei-has's stolen sleep. His brother had not been with the raiders. Ranko had told the tribe that Ruis and three others had been lost during the raids, but nothing more. And in his anger, Kei-has could feel his mind poisoned with possibilites. Had Ranko abandoned Ruis to die? Had he used the excited young man as a decoy, as often was done during the first raid one took part in. Had Ruis died for nothing?

Kei-has sat up and sighed. He needed fresh air. He got up from his sleeping mat and got dressed. He took his bow and arrow with him, as well as his knife and spear. Stepping out into the cool night he breathed deeply. He might as well go relieve Rauta... He wasn't going to sleep anymore tonight in any case, so he might as well go watch the herds...

In the powerful lands of Osiria Caption Raja watched as the King walked purposefully though the dock yards of Malta. Hundreds of laborers had been working day and night for weeks to build what is supposed to be king Atrastus's response to dozens of Hyperborean raids over the years. Four new airships. Each capable of carrying fifty warriors. All that remains know is for the final provisions to be loaded into the ships by morning they would launch to seek revenge on the northern barbarians.

Raja would lead this great expedition, having picked the best navigators for the job. With him he would take his own company of two hundred men.

Atlantian Jackals(spies) watched as laborers toiled away at the airships. Osiria was developing quickly in the field of technology, and Atlantis woudln't have it. The jackals, who were usually reserved for political assasinations, stealthed towards the unfinished ships. While three kept watch the other wernt through all 4 warships, attatching miniscule energy crystals into the engines of the ship. When they enginges activated, disaster would follow.

Night attacks were not something that Queen Deniea did most of the time. But in thse case of going against the enemy. The Hyperboreans had sighted a Somii Camp.

The 50 warriors were divided into five groups of ten, to attack from all sides of the camp. Deniea and her group on foot were to get though the herd of reindeer. Her and the warriors walked with out makeing any sound, sneeking though the reindeer in the cold night.

The rest on horses would wait for Deniea's signal to attack the enemy tents.

The Battle was short and bloody, The Rathians drove away the Giant Mammoths at a cost of 15 dead and 20 wounded, which was not good, considering that the Rathian population was small enough. The Giant Mammoths suffered heavy losses, and for days, scavengers came and feasted off the dead Mammoths. The Rathians meanwhile, buried their dead, and headed south. During that time, a group of 50 Rathians crossed the land bridge of Alaska-Siberia and traded with the friendly hunters there. Also, Dragon-like-beings called Draconians were hired by the Rathians as mercenaries. They were paid in gold from the mines of the Western North America.

The Hyperboreans had made one mistake: they had thought the reindeer to be tame, domesticated beasts like cows on a pasture. This, however, they were not. The smell of bronze and unknown humans appearing from the darkness startled the herds, the deep bleating of the alarmed reindeer catching the attention of the three or four Somii watching over the herd. One of them ran to his skis, putting them on while the leader pulled out a horn made of an aurochs's horn. He drew his lungs full, his two companions scanning the herds to see who or what had startled them. It wasn't wolves or wolverines, no... they read the herd like a scholar would reach a parchment. Whatever had startled them, walked on two feet...
