The Birth of a Solar Empire (Late PMT Early FT)

Prolouge
Many eons ago when the human race was first forming another equally similar race was forming. These were the Oblivionates people who looked like humans acted like humans and every aspect of them was human save the name. These people grew up in the far side of the milky way galaxy in the 8th spiral arm (as opposed to the first for the humans)

These people were like humans they had there world wars the cold war you name it, but the one thing that unified these peoples was the great space race of 2203 AC (after collapse which is 1000 years after the Death of the Earthian Jesus Christ) At this time Oblivion (the Name of the planet) was severly overpopulated and three factions raced to make a colony on the nearby planet of ares. One faction succeded after traveling for seven years to the planet. This faction (The united federation of Oblivion) became the figurehead for the oblivion government. After as sizable population on ares had been built an amazing discovery was made. AS construction workers were working away to terraform the last valley on the planet they discovered a alien ship. It was brought to the federation science station in orbit of Ares and was succesfully reverse engineered which resulted in sublight engines, futureistic weapons and armor, and the possiblity to travel to other solar systems to colonize for the Oblivionate race.

Now...
2300 AC
The Oblivionate Race has now succesfully colonized 3 solar systems; Tje home system; Oblivion, The Rocky planet system Argos, and the Ocean system, Romulus.

But as we speak first contact may now occur
march 23rd (later known as first contact day)

Edge of new system known as Gaia

"sir" a young cadet said "I'm picking up some kind of signal on the trackings systems, uhh it seems to be moving at near light speeds. It's an unknown vessel most likely alien we don't have that kind of technology."

"Hmm open a comm channel lets see what we can get."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Attention Unknown vessel this is Admiral Hardforth of the Frigatte the Independance we are here as explorers, please respond!

(Ok so this is where you come in you as an FT nation have the opportunity to be the species or faction of first contact for the Oblivionates. Remember these people are an early FT nation so war should be easy but remember these people are quick to adapt and could make a powerful ally, Also since they have been in there planet for longer, so their land-based technology is much more advanced than another race would be at this point.)

Note: Right now my peoples are early FT but another Nation may be much higher if they so choose the title is just the status of my nation in the prolouge

Fleetmind Search: Day 248

"Nothing."

"Sir?"

"Not a damned thing out here. Either those probes are faulty, or Kara's a trickier bitch than we thought."

The navigator laughed, a high-pitched, nervous sound.

"Sir, we're in a scoutcraft - if we had the poor luck to meet up with Kara, we'd be screwed!"

Captain Ellesworth laughed. "True enough. The point being that the probe clearly showed something out here. Not sure what happened to it after that - the signal cut off. Could've been a Fleetmind vessel. Might just be a malfunction. Hell, I don't know. You?"

"No idea, sir."

The scoutcraft was lightly armed - the vast majority of its mass was centered in its engines, making it capable of travelling at immense sublight speeds. Although it had only a rudimentary jump drive, it was designed specifically for hunting the Fleetmind - an enemy the Realm had been fighting for years, now. Fleetmind Kara, as she called herself, was a distributed AI, living on many ships, enough to threaten the Realm itself.

However, she was not here. Another race was.

The message was received, and the captain looked at it curiously. "Damn. Not in the database. Fire up the universal translator - if that doesn't work, we'll have to send it home for translation."

The navigator saluted, and hit a key.

The unknown ship of the attention this admiral Hardforth of the ship is independence we here is since the discovery travellers, please to answer!

"Well.. the translator did a pretty good job, sir. It's one Admiral Hardforth of the ship.. Independence, I think. They're probably scouts, and they don't know who we are."

"Hell, I could've told you that myself. Set the translator up again. We'll send a return message."

The return message was garbled - the Cormorant's translator was not especially efficient, being based on a small ship, but it still managed fairly well.

To greet. This is the ship Cormorant. We are on exploring task. We greet you in name of friendship. We are citizens of the Realm, stellar power.

"Uhh sir it seems we have recived a message from the UFO, They are in a ship they called cormorant, They seem to be an interstellar group of explorers working for a government called the realm." Said the Origanal Cadet.

The admiral rubbed his chin and chewed on his pipe. "OK cadet This is what I want you to do, use the ships translator to send a message in every language in the federation and hope we can find a common or a similar language, this is what i want it to say..."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Greetings Noble explorers,

We are a exploritory vessel such as your self, we wish to dock and make and exchange of cultures if this so pleases you, we are a peaceful race. Although we lack in space technology we have sophisticated planet side technologies and a trade maybe benificial for both parties.

Admiral Hardforth

"Cadet I want you to send a message back to the federation that we have made contact with an alien race and are attempting communications."

"Right away sir" The cadet said and furiously typed on his comm panel.

This is only a scout corvette - we have an airlock, but not any docks. Our ship is about as large as yours. As we're travelling at vastly different speeds, I'm getting the impression it'd take us hours to be able to dock with one another. I'm sure our people would consider a gift of technology to yours, yet we would care to have a more extensive first impression. We have made mistakes in the past, after all.

The scoutship's message was almost perfect this time - with more language data fed in to the translator, it was able to make an almost complete analysis. It was a fairly human language, that was for sure, for it relied on an alphabet, and not some of the more exotic methods of communication they'd discovered before.

"Sir it seems we have a language match, they seem to speak coastal oblivion or as close to it as possible. They do want to make some sort of negotations but our ships are moving at vastly different speeds." The Cadet said

"Sir, I recommend that you send the ship the coordinates to an outpot in the ares system to begin some sort of negotations" The ships A.I. Odessus Said

"Right, Cadet send them the Coordinates to anatares space station and send the following message." The admiral Said Breathlessly
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Attn Crew of the Comorant,
We understand the current gravity of the sitiuation and we wish to make diplomatic relations. We request that you or an emissary of your Realm please head to Antares Space station in the Ares Solar System. We will transmit the Coordinates momentarily. We request that you bring with you one medium cruiser and no more tham 3 escorts of a heavy destroyer class or lower.
Admiral Hardforth of The scout Frigate Independance.

The Icarus Protocal Was the immediate Preparation for a advanced speices arival into the sector, These included where to prepare all weapons and charge up the Ion cannons and put the fleet into defensive and ambushive formations just in case things got hostile.

"Ok sir coordinates sent, waiting for response."
"Good job cadet, now inform the crew that we are to make ready for an immediate turn around back to oblivion space."

He laughed.

We'll be there in a few minutes. Our jump drives are still cooling, but when they're ready again, we'll jump. There won't be an issue - we pride ourselves on our precision.

The ship was readied, and, after a small while, jumped. Momentarily, it reappeared outside of the Antares station. Of course, it was nowhere near the size of a destroyer or cruiser, and was scarcely armed, to boot. The only real threat would come in the event of a power generation overload, and those were easy to detect coming a mile off.

"What!!!! Let me see the video." The admiral looked worriedly into the hologram. "Wow, I didn't think I would see it in me life time it's.... amazing. Set a course to antares at all due speed."

"Yes sir, ETA 5 hours and 12 minutes under favorable curiumstances. One more thing sir, Request you pick your jaw up from the floor!"

"Will do cadet will do." The admiral said jokingly.

The Cormorant docked, airlocks hissing as they slowly opened. The atmosphere was palatable, it seemed. Captain Thanel, like most of his kind, had been geneered to suck the oxygen out of any environment, provided it was there.

He was unarmed, but he had been soldier-boosted to the point where he verged on unkillable - in a pinch, he could manufacture acids and explosives from the raw materials of his body.

Not, he reminded himself, that he would need to. This was solely a diplomatic mission.

He held a translator in his hand, radio linking it to his ship. It would only speak the languages of others in a poor monotone, but it was surely better than trying to use sign language.

He stepped through the airlock, holding his palms up. That, at least, should be a sign that he was unarmed.

OOC:

Mind if I pine in so late? Post once and a while, just observing.

IC:

The ship in question was obviously on a long patrol mission, so far from home, so far from the Federation. It wasn't uncommon to encounter an Anagonian craft millions of light-years from their home space. For thousands of years they traveled the galaxy, honoring no boundaries or territories, and making sure they stayed out of the way of the territories they knew existed. It was through these travels that they colonized a huge section of space, and went beyond to create outposts and merchant rings to bring much profit. Space Piracy grew, and so patrols of the military sort had to be implemented.

After the events of the Galactic Civil War, all these outposts belonging to the Galactic Republic ceased to exist. Forgotten in the twelve years taken to form the new Galactic Federation. Logically, the new Starfleet had to send patrols out to rediscover these outpost worlds, and these profitably merchant havens. No new vessels were assigned to this task, only the older ones. Only the much older ones.

The Hailstorm-Class Battlecruisers (http://hawk.proboards1.com/index.cgi?board=Military&action=display&thread=1103679193&page=1#1103680906) had been in service since the Colonial Union (http://hawk.proboards1.com/index.cgi?board=gfmc&action=display&thread=1206818374&page=1#1206818374). They were extremely aged, yet reliable enough to continue their service for centuries. This particular ship was the famed Battlecruiser Miranda, stationed for the most distant duties and outfitted with the most recent technology to enable them nearly unlimited travel time. So far, they had discovered nothing.

Far from a distant system detected on long-range scans, they lazily used their Fusion drives to drift to the next Hyperspace jump. While the normal ships-of-the-line carried Sub-Space Jump Reacters and the newly designed Hyperwarp Engines, the Miranda stayed the course for her age-old roots. Literally. There were no fancy Microwave Particle Cannons, or Fusion Cannons, just basic projectile cannons modified for space combat. Her fighter craft still carried munitions instead of laser-based weaponry. She was once the most advanced ship, now the most outdated and least updated in weaponry design.

Perfect for a races first contact. But that was for another day, or so anyone thought. Only Admirals commanded the Miranda, for those had enough training to handle such a ship of this class. The particular Admiral in command of the Battlecruiser Miranda was Rutherford Armstrong, a well recognized and respect member of the new Starfleet. His career went beyond the Federation, into the period of the Civil War, and back into the Republic days.

And he was bored, severely bored. His mission was a simple one. To discover the lost outpost worlds, to gather them back into Anagonia, and if they didn't accept to catalog their locations. By now he was sure they had their own Governments, and considering that he was under the authority of the Federation with all diplomatic and political privileges. And all that power sat in the Commanders Chair on a decently sized bridge.

Looking down at his armchair console he discovered that the recent pilot recruits had done well in the aged XF-200 Super Starfighter (http://hawk.proboards1.com/index.cgi?board=Military&action=display&thread=1103679193&page=1#1103680939). Those birds were old, still useful for Space Superiority. Another newtype squadron was supposed to go out to get more training. These deep-space voyages did have their uses for training.

Concentrating on the viewports with electronic displays at the forward of the bridge, there still were no scan results for active pre-Federation signals. He contemplated staying on station, but decided to rest while he could. He left command to his Captain, then followed the pathway to the Admirals Rest.

Thanel took one of the fruits, and sniffed it. After a moment, he took a bite. It was mildly poisonous, but that was no issue. Nanites in this case would break it down into harmless components, regardless of its goodness. Besides, a little extra nanite energy expended was worth it for the goodwill of his hosts.

He nodded. "Shall we continue?"

May I just point out the Title is wrong for this. You can't have a Solar Empire if your Empire doesn't even come from the Solar System. A common mistake people say is that all these systems are Solar Systems, but they aren't. Our one is called a Solar System because our Sun is called Sol.

Meanwhile, his brain was quietly storing away useful images. When he got back home, there'd no doubt be a demand for pictures of this new species, and their architecture - a simple retinal scrubber would get him everything they'd want.

I will be honest, however, and state that the vast majority of the Realm's trade with smaller nations is in luxury goods, historical documents and goods, or cultural artefacts. At present, though, our interest is inclined more towards the political end of things, as opposed to the economic. We are busily aligning nations so that they are within our sphere of influence - and little more than that."

We have much food and enough space for our population but our space based technology is lacking. After all a few months ago a large battlegroup of ships passed through here. we won barely, although we out numbered them 4 to 1. If we can be given jump technology and new models of ships and ship based weapons, we could provide soldiers, medical technologies and even raw materials, just for Jump technology." Thanel nodded. "While we are agreeable to granting to others our technology, we tend to require some sort of guarantee that it will be used wisely. However, first, as to the material aid.."

His voice trailed off for a moment. "To be honest, it is doubtful that you will have anything we need. Inside my bloodstream at this moment are millions of nanites, capable of removing almost any disease, or even regenerating lost limbs, should it come to that. Unless a disease can consume me faster than my nanites can fight it, I am virtually immune to disease. Had I not been, I would not have consented to step foot aboard your starship - slight differences in genetics can make harmless bacteria deadly."

"As for raw materials, we regularly harvest gas giants, asteroid belts, and other stellar objects merely to repair our capital ships. There is little you can offer us that we do not already receive from our trading partners."

His smile tightened, and then disappeared. They were talking business, now, and there was little room for emotion in that.

"However, we have granted several nations the benefits of our technology in return for but a few scant things. These are merely terms that have been accepted before, and I would not demand you accept them now - make counter-offers if you will, but I wish only to inform. Among our allies, we have four basic tenets. The first is that foreign policy is to be synchronized when possible. The second, that we will come to one another's aid when attacked. The third, that a unified communications protocol is used for our navies, and the fourth is free trade. In return for the acceptance of perhaps only the fourth, we could grant you faster-than-light drives, on good faith."

He nodded. "It is an offer I have to make, as a diplomat, for it is our government's policy. Should you refuse it, we will still deal with you without bias."
Oblivion2
09-04-2008, 02:07

Hyperspatial Travel
09-04-2008, 05:28
Thanel laughed. "Suspicious, aren't we? The Realm has a policy of laying these things out openly. Our policy seems overly benign, even to our own detriment. Yet it is not. For one, it is common Realm practice to open a "worldgate", a major transit gate from the territories of our allies to our own in order to facilitate trade. As trade with us cheapens to the point of becoming impractical to trade elsewhere, we gain valuable allies in a hostile universe, who rely on us."

A breath. "Secondly, the Realm, while powerful economically, is not independent economically. Gaining trading partners who are allied with us, fight the same enemies, practise the same restrictions as us, and who cannot be compromised in times of war or peace gives us an incomparable economic safety. While, admittedly, we provide the majority of the muscle in the mutual defense programs, that muscle often serves as deterrent enough."

"It is curious, I will admit, how this is regarded with suspicion. But we are traders, Chairman. We understand that loyalty and good faith is not won by force of arms, or by subterfuge, but by providing the best service at the best price. Our little alliance is not sustained by the supercapital ships that are flung across the universe to enforce our safety against such enemies as the Fleetmind, but rather by the simple recognition that it provides excellent return on investment."

"You see, other nations might well seek to subjugate you to their will. Let me state this simply, and without threat, but know that the Realm could quite easily destroy a race who lacked superluminal travel. The war would be measured in minutes. It would be perhaps a tad harder to enslave your race, bending them all to the service of our people."

"Yet what would we gain from that?"

"By investing our resources into yours, by giving your the ability to travel faster-than-light, we gain a trade partner who will be able to compete with our own resource corporations for years to come. We gain, thus, cheaper material resources through specialization. With the free flow of ideas, our own science advances at a faster rate. As we align our foreign policies, and share battlenet communications, we ensure a stronger military defending this flow of ideas and material."

"I will admit, in this arrangement, the Realm is the de facto leader - it is thus in all of these arrangements, that we have with Kostemetsia, the one we have with the Empire of Greal, and that we have with our first and strongest allies, the Keluaun. It it thus because the Realm has the largest military and economy, because, in any mutual defense arrangement, they stand to benefit far more than we do."

A moment's pause, and then Thanel spoke once more.

"I can understand your sceptism, however, Chairman. Having been almost alone in the stars for many years, and then to be offered such a thing at so little a price?"

He withdrew a pad from his pocket, and tapped it a few times. He waited impatiently for words to flash on the screen, and then he whispered a single word at it. "Translate."

He handed the pad to Maxor. "This is the schematic for the simplest of jump drives. It requires a significant amount of power to use - and requires more, depending on how close you are to a gravity well at the beginning of your jump. A fusion power plant will be required to work it on even a small ship. However, you will be able to travel small interstellar distances in days. We do not require you to reciprocate this action in any way."

He tapped the pad again, permanently locking it out of his ship's systems. "There is also a list of planetary surveys in all nearby systems, if this sparks some sort of colonial madness among your people."

With that, he was finished. He merely waited for Maxor to respond.

The chairman looked at the captain, stunned. Then after regaining his composure said, "Well sir, it seems that We have some sort of agreement, we will allow trade between our nations, the federation will aid you or your allies in battle, but we must request one thing of you captain. We request that your allies must make a formal recognition of our federations exsitance if they wish to commence trading."
Hyperspatial Travel
10-04-2008, 00:47
"If they so desire it, I imagine they will. I could, I imagine, rather easily come into contact with the rest of our allies, but especially the Keluaun. I imagine my government will recognize yours immediately, once it's been appropriately voted upon. Now.."

His voice trailed off. "I am actually on a scouting mission, rather than a diplomatic one. I am an accredited diplomat, but even a sojourn with a new nation cannot last forever. The search for Fleetmind vessels is my duty, Chairman. As pleasant as this has been, I imagine you'll be able to hammer out a proper treaty with the ambassador that'll undoubtedly be sent to your planet. In the meantime, do you mind if I flag this location on the maps of our allies? They may wish to send diplomats, or the like."
Oblivion2
10-04-2008, 05:36
"Captain you may do as you wish with the maps, but please take a few of our scout probes. They know the surronding edges of the federation better than the stars themselves, with there help you may find the enemy you are seaching for in the mageral nebula about 150 Parcecs outside the federations area of influence. In there are many asteroid fields and dust fields in which a large fleet could hide. Please take it as a gift of good will." The chairman said.

10-04-2008, 06:51
"To be honest, chairman, we're just searching for Fleetmind resource operations. Their main fleet is presumed to be a long way spinward from here, and our corvette isn't equipped to carry probes. Thank you for the offer, though. We'll upload our maps to the 'nets. Our own maps have gone years without a proper survey ship."

He grinned. "Oh, and if you see any large vessels intent on wiping your race off the face of the earth, please, get in touch with us as soon as you can. We don't believe Kara's anywhere near here, but.. it's best to be safe."

With that, he turned and left.

After First contact, the people rejoiced, they now had basic jump technology, which boosted their other spacebound technologies by about 75 years. With the new maps they obtained from the realm they were able to colonize new systems much more quickly. The Federation now reached some 12 systems as opposed to the orinonal 3.

Even though first contact was friendly, other first contacts may not go so well, but untill that day The United Federation of Oblivion, finally has a place among the galactic community.
