To nobles and gentles of the realms.

From King Neil 1st, King of Forthshore and defender of the one true faith, greetings.
It pleases our royal person to institute a tourney to improve the fighting skills of our knights and to foster better relations with those nations close to us. The tourney shall range over the estate of Baron Ecce and shall take up to seven days. Would all those nobles who wish to attend let the heralds know in this thread with details of whether they wish to participate in this tourney at arms or merely wish to visit Forthshore.
If any are to venture arms in the tourney then the heralds shall need a description of their warbands which should not be greater than a score in number.

OOC: I'm going to try running a mediaeval/fantasy tournament with all the things surrounding such an event. Anyone interested?

Try the IJL link in my signature for the International Jousting League. I think it is something along the lines of what you are looking for.

It's going to be the full role-playing thing of the stuff around a mediaeval tourney.

the full tournament is actually held over a large area of countryside with various mounted warbands trying to capture each other and make them yield. thus, lances, swords and all sorts of stuff are used as weapons.

If a knight can bring another knight to a safe point as a captive then the yielded knight has to pay a ransom of 1 horse and a suit of armour (or the cash equivalent) to his captor.
I'm also interested in the roleplay of the characters around the tourney. When a tournament happened, a small town of armourers, stables and everything people need to live (food shops, pubs etc.) A small market would spring up for the few days the tournee was on.

As you can see, it's not just jousting. I'm thinking of an earlier period tourney.
Ladies, of course, are welcome to the tourney as it is also a courtly event. No doubt some female warbands would wish to take part as well.

And magic will not be allowed in the tourney but there may be demonstarations of magic by any magi who wish to attend.

Jousting is melee/HTH. On horseback, it's called tilting. The muri hold a great interest in this-may they arrive with a caravan to ply their wares and compete?

OOC: Sounds interesting, are wizard/magic and non human creatures allowed?

Non-human creatures are allowed, but only knights mounted on horseback may take part in the main tourney. Magic spells are not allowed in the tourney, but the magi of Forthshore are always interested in meeting other practitioners of the arts.

Just let us know when and where-muri knights prefer giant spiders, but I suppose they can adapt to a Clydesdale-or perhaps just participate in the melee/HTH portion of the tourney.
