Moravria

OOC: This is a preliminary factbook, just so I have some sort of history to go off of. I will be updating it with more information as my star-nation develops. And before anyone says anything, I know saying MAC gun is repedative, but just saying MAC seems strange somehow. Sorry for the piss-poor quality of all the ship pictures. Photobucket was not being cooperative.
The Democratic States of Moravria
Geography
The Democratic States of Moravria consists of a single star system with two planets. Mora, the only inhabited planet, is moderately earth-like. It approximately 60% water, with the remaining 40% made up of land of varying climate. It has one moon, which has no official name, being known as only The Moon. Vria is a gas giant far away from Mora, slightly smaller than Jupiter. It has six moons, one of which is habitable by humans. An asteroid field exists at the approximate midpoint between Mora’s and Vria’s orbits.
History
The origin of humans on Mora is unknown, though archeological digs have found remains of human settlements dating back 500 years. These settlements demonstrate a technology level greater than that of current Moravrians. Speculation has lead many experts to conclude that Mora was originally a colony of some other human power and was left alone after some catastrophic war or epidemic that ravaged the civilizations.
Due to a world-wide plague, and subsequent wars, almost all history and much scientific knowledge was lost. Actual recorded history dates back around 300 years to an era commonly called The Refounding. It was at this time that famous Johan S’kritar united much of Mora under the Moran banner, which he named The Democratic states of Mora. S’kritar was a powerful diplomat-general that used both diplomacy and armed conflict to help unite the world. He was able to instill a great nationalistic feeling in almost every citizen, and he began projects to rediscover lost technology.
Many years past relatively peacefully, with the small portion of Mora not under the control of DSM launching unsuccessful attempts to gain more land or uproot the Moran government. Scientific knowledge flourished, and by 150 AR (After Refoudning) space flight had been all but perfected. Colonies sprouted up in space stations in Moran orbit, on Mora’s moon, and eve on Vria’s habitable moon, Vria IV. Eventually a space station was built in Vria orbit, which collected fusionable materials from its gaseous atmosphere, which created an energy surplus that spurred on colonization and scientific discovery.
By 200 AR the entire star system now under Moran control and the Moran government decided to rename itself to increase nationalism in the colonies. Many names were offered as potential candidates, but the system was eventually named Mora-Vria, in homage to the two planets of the system. Very shortly the hyphen was dropped and The Democratic States of Moravria was born.
With the advent of affordable space travel and colonization of the star system a new menace formed. Renegades with a thirst for money began buying civilian space vessels and fitting them with improvised weapons. They would attack both civilian and governmental ships in route to colonies and take the valuable supplies they held. The goods would then be ransomed back to the colonies, since they could no survive without the supplies from Mora. This caused the Moravrian government to research useable weapons in space and invest in a small fleet of “warships” that could be used to combat these renegade pirates. The Moravrian Defense Fleet was officially sanctioned in 205 AR, with the first ship being delivered into active service in 206 AR.
By 240 AR the fleet consisted of 12 ships, 10 of which were small Moon-class frigates used to escort supply vessels to the colonies of Moravria. The other two vessels were larger Sk’ritar-class battle-cruisers. They were used to actively hunt down pirates and their space station bases around the system. The main weapon of Moravrian space vessel were short-range missles that required one to get very close to the target to hit it.
For years Moravrian scientists had been researching the possibility of faster than light travel, and in 289 AR they created a drive they hoped would be able to access a dimensional known as Hyperspace where travel faster then light was possible. A ship was quickly designed, known as the MSS Explorer to house the drive and test its faster then light capabilities.
Navy
These are the official warships currently employed by the Moravrian Space Navy
Moon-Class Escort Frigate
http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk89/Moravria/Moon-class-1.jpg
Type: Escort
Length: 143 meters
Crew: 140
Armament: 36 missile launch tubes
The Moon-Class Frigate was created as a replacement to the Protector-Class escorts originally in use by the MSF. The design builds off of experience gained in fighting pirates throughout Moravrian space. It is an escort vessel meant to stop raiding of vital convoys that supply the colonies of Moravria. It is a small, lightly armed vessel, not suited for fleet battles.
The namesake of the class, the MSS Moon has been outfitted with smaller versions of the railguns on the S’kritar-class cruisers.
S’kritar-class Cruiser
Type: Assault Cruiser
Length: 332 meters
Crew: 400
Armament: 50 missile launch tubes, 2 railguns
Created because of increased levels of piracy, the S’kritar-class cruiser is used to actively seek out and destroy pirate strongholds. Larger and more heavily armed than the Moon-class frigate, it bears first generation railgun systems, and more missile tubes. It is effective at bombardment of stations and land bases.
Future designs
These are ships that are either in development or in the testing stages. Soon they will all come into use for the navy, significantly boosting its power and making it an galactic civilization.
Aggressor-class Battlecruiser
http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk89/Moravria/Aggressor-class.jpg
Type: Battlecruiser
Length: 617 meters
Crew 550
Armamnet: 4 MAC guns, 6 rapid-fire point-defense blasters, 112 missile tubes
The Aggressor-class cruiser is meant to be the first vessel capable of holding its own in a fleet engagement. Second generation Magnetic Acceleration Cannon technology allows this ship to fire a devastating volley of solid-shot ammunition or buck-shot type pellets designed to cause damage over an incredibly large area. The point-defense weaponry is relatively light on the ship, but the Agrressor is meant to operate cooperatively with ships with more point-defenses.
Gluttony-class Cargo Ship
http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk89/Moravria/Gluttony-Class2.jpg
Type: Cargo
Length: 617 meters
Crew 150
Armament: 9 rapid-fire point-defense blasters
Slow and ungainly, the Gluttony-class cargo ship is based off of the Aggressor hull. The main tower was extended the length of the hull, creating much more storage capacity. The vessel is meant to be the milk cows of fleets, the cargo ship can carry enough supplies to last itself and many more war vessels well stocked for weeks, if not months, without resupply.
Spirit-class Frigate
Type: Point-Defense Frigate
Length: 194 meters
Crew: 150
Armament: 10 rapid-fire point-defense blasters
Meant to protect the capital ships in the fleet, Spirit frigates will always position themselves above and below a capital ship to give it adequate point-defenses. They are modified and lengthened Moon hulls, and are designed to be light and maneuverable.
Freedom-class Battleship
http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk89/Moravria/Freedom-class.jpg
Type: Anti-capital ship
Length: 1624 meters
Crew: 1400
Armament: 10 Mac guns, 196 missile tubes, 8 rapid-fire point-defense blasters
Truly the behemoth of the Moravrian Space Navy, the Freedom-class battleship is the largest space-going vessel ever to be built on the shipyards above Vria. The ship is designed to launch torrents of missiles and immense volleys from its MAC guns, capable of overloading a vessels shields and fatally damaging its weapons systems. It, like other Moravrian capital ships, is lacking in point-defenses, and relys on the support of the Spirit-class frigates to protect it from enemy fire.
