AU Military Cooperation Summit (Closed: Atlantican Union|MT)

The two corporals of the 3rd Imperial Guard Regiment on either side of the door brought themselves to attention as the new Prime Minister of Anselmus, Jacques Delacroix, walked briskly past them into his office. He had just come from attending his first session of the Anselmian Senate as Prime Minister, in which the cabinet he personally selected was formally invested with the powers of government. Now that the petty rituals were over, it was time to get down to business. First item on the agenda: the Atlantican Union.

Delacroix walked to a window and stared outside. It was a gloomy day, completely overcast, windy, and with rain in the near future. On the sidewalk below, a combined force of Imperial Guard soldiers and Metropolitan Constabulary policemen was erecting barricades in an attempt to restrain a small mob of protesters carrying signs bearing such slogans as "PEACE IN ATLANTICA", "DELACROIX IS A FASCIST", and "SAY NO TO THE AU." The Anselmian head of government smiled and shook his head. The entire reason that he was standing in this office at this moment was because left-wing scum such as these were incapable of running the country. Idiots...But back to business. Delacroix returned to his desk and began drafting a communique to his fellow Atlantican Union heads of government...

ANSELMUS

To the leaders of the nations of the Atlantican Union:

We stand at one of the most crucial times in the history of Europa Atlantica. We stand at a fork in the road, with a choice between survival and utter destruction. To our east, the New Oslo Pact grows stronger with every new member it coerces into joining its ranks. In the interests of forming a stronger bond between our great nations to better stand against this ever-increasing threat from the East, I, on behalf of the Emperor, Senate, and People of the Holy Empire of Anselmus, invite you and your ministers of defense to a summit in the Anselmian capital of Spoletium on the subject of stronger military cooperation between members of the AU. Should you personally not be able to attend, we will, of course, accomodate a suitably-ranked representative. Such topics as shard military bases, commonly adapted weapons calibers, and a unified intelligence network will be covered.

In terms of accomodations, delegations will arrive at Spoletium's Pax Romana International Airport, from which they will be escorted downtown to their hotels and the location of the summit. Delegations will be put up in the finest hotels downtown Spoletium has to offer, including the Hotel Imperial, the Hotel Anselm IV, and the Hotel Umbria. All hotels are but a short drive from the Imperial Palace, where the summit itself will be held.

Please reply with haste, wheter it be to the affirmative or negative. We await your answer hopefully.

Sincerely yours,
The Rt. Hon. Jacques Delacroix
Prime Minister of the Holy Empire of Anselmus

I, Emperor Gardar Arnarson will personaly attend. However, I have some questions about security; is it really so wise to have such a summit so close the Heart of the New Olso Pact? Secondly, will the streets be kept clear of protesters, forgien and domestic? They pose a security risk. NOP agents could very well infiltrate under the guise of protesters and carry out an assassination atempt on any of the delgates gathered.

We do not believe that our proximity to the NOP will pose any greater a security threat than if the summit were held farther away due to the availability of modern transportation. However, it is true that security in a major city will be much harder to maintain than in a more isolated location. If requested, the summit could be moved to Castelgard, an Imperial residence in the mountains northeast of Spoletium. Here, delegations will have absolute privacy with no threat from protesters. Of course, regardless of location, we invite security personnel of each attending nation to visit before the summit and affirm that the security preparations are to standard.

Sincerely,
The Rt. Hon. Jacques Delacroix

OOC: My Emperor doesn't like to fly large over-land distances. He's Slightly paranoid about getting shot down. Would it be aceptable for him to hitch a ride on one of my carrier battle groups and take a Tilt-rotor aircraft to the summit site?

I suppose that depends on the location of said battle group. If it's just leaving your country now, it could take quite some time before coming within carrier-borne aircraft range of our shores.

Maybe three or four days. The craft I use for that kind of thing has range of about 650 miles.
