MORTAL KOMBAT! NS edition OOC Intrest/sign-up/development/discussion thread

So, this idea has been rolling around in my mind for awhile, and thought I would share it with everyone, see what became of it.

Mortal Kombat is a very popular game, at least it once might have been, and so I decided to try and start our own version. the storyline will be our own, though it might at some points, especially the beginning, reflect MK's real story line.

There will be none of the usual tech boundries surrounding this thread, only the universally accepted rules, plus a few others. For location purposes, the majority of this storyline takes place in The Entropic Isles, on Earth, but can and will spread to other areas from there.

So, Rules:
1) no godmodding, but don't confuse godmodding with power, or another tech level.
2) Be fair in your character creation. No Laser guns or undefeatable magic spells. Basically, you must be defeatable by anyone else in the tournament.
3) only one fighting character per person, if you die, you may not be out, there will be a few, if difficult to obtain, methods of bringing a character back to life. (Or something similar for anyone who wants an undead)
4) if you cannot be brought back, then you are defeated, and out of the Mortal Kombat Tournament.
5) no more than 5
non-combatant characters per person (except me, I've got the entire court of Warhaven to play, I've also got various NPC's to play for other reasons at other times, at least half of which will be fightable.
6) Each fight will take place in two rounds with a full heal after the first, however there will also be non fighting periods for storylines.
7) The storyline will be determined by each fight, for history is written by the victors, not the losers.
8) Be defeatable, not lame, weak, and stupid
9) follow the outline below:

Name:
Age:
Physical Description:
Weapons:
Backround:

In the interests of fair play, each player has 75 stat points to distribute as follows below.

Stats

1) Strength
2) Constitution
3) Dexterity
4) Agility
5) Intellengence
6) Wisdom

Powers: Limited to three powers

1)
2)
3)

Martial Arts Skills:

1) Punches
2) Kicks

Basic question - How is the winner of each fight to be determined?

To be totally fair to each entrant, I'd suggest a ranking and scoring system, with each win or loss adding or subtacting from the figthters ranking, with an impartial judge "rolling the dice" so to speak and then the contestants can wirte up their win or loss.

Suggestion: Give each player 75 points to start with to divide among the sections below.

Stats

1) Strength
2) Constitution
3) Dexterity
4) Agility
5) Intellengence
6) Wisdom

Powers: Limited to three powers

1)
2)
3)

Martial Arts Skills:

1) Punches
2) Kicks
3) Throws
4) Grapples/ Subdues
5) Martial Arts Weapons

I'll gladly be the judge handling the scorinator, and run a non fighting player perhaps a reporter to interview the winners and losers.

Ah, but she could run some sort of celestial or demonic reporter (most reporters being the latter species) that interviews their shocked and nearly departed souls.

This is a very good idea. Realise, not all characters are going to have martial arts skills, or are going to have more than martial arts skills. It shall be implemented at once.

NC, I'm going to need you to expand your character profile to match the new requirements.

Tanaara, perhaps you should write up an expanded description of how your going to do this, for the benefits of others.

1) I used the label Martial Arts Skills because you said Mortal Kombat - and wether it's pure boxing/ bar brawling/ Kung Fu / Aikido/ Muay Thai / Savate/ Wing Chung etc, you can break it down into catagories :

Hitting/ blocking with the hands/arms/elbows,
hitting/ blocking/ with the feet/ knees/ thighs

2) And the reason I listed 'martial arts weapons' is my belief that guns & missile weapons of any and all sorts don't belong in this tournament. ( blowguns/ bows / bow casters / Slingshots / firearms / magic : pistols, wands, staves, rods )

However I leave that up to you to decide

2A)And every other weapon from a simple dirk, to a three section staff to a kama to a belaying pin can be considered a Martial Arts weapon. However I changed that name to to Melee Weapons. This includes any hand- held OR thrown weapon. LOL if you need a list just go here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_martial_arts_weapons)

However I changed the name to fighting skills

3) Please note one adition - I completely forgot to add in Blocks/ Parrys and Reaction Times - my oops and now added

I know not every entrant will have Fighting Skills - and if they chose not to they simply put the points elsewhere. ( though why they are enterintg with out such is beyond me, as Mortal Combat is welll, combat.)

Stats

1) Strength
2) Constitution
3) Dexterity
4) Agility
5) Reaction Time
6) Intellengence
7) Wisdom

Powers: Limited to three powers & please list eaches Power Rating

1)
2)
3)

Fighting Skills:

1) Punches
2) Kicks
3) Throws
4) Grapples/ Subdues
5) Parrys/ Blocks
6) Melee Weapons

How it's going to work. At the start of the fight I'll ask each of the two combatants to post a statement of intent.

Example:

Jor the barbarian knows the he is strong, and punches well, and he's seen his opponent, named Bob, doesn't seem to like to get close and likes to kick So he's going to get in close, use a lot of punches, and also try to grappel and subdue Bob. But he's kinda slow, he didn't put many points in to Reaction Time so he'll use his superior intellegence - where he did put a lot of points - into trapping this guy against the wall...

Bob is a Savate fighter, who likes to keep his opponent at legs length, and if things get real close hes going to do as much parrying and blocking as he can. And becasue he put a lot into his constuition he has a lot of endurance so he'll try and wear Jor down by running him around the arena.

Using bonuses or minuses figured off of states and such I'll determine who the winner is and TG them to let them know - and the winner writes up a post saying how he won, the loser writes up one saying how he lost.

Projectiles are common place enough, HOWEVER, they must not be so fast they cannot be dodged or avoided, nor can they be used so excessivly that an opponet wouldn't be able to get close and beat the snot out of you for shooting a fireball at him. Also, they cannot be superpowered one hit kills projectiles. They may take up to a twentieth of your life force away.

sounds like a fairly interesting idea. to bad I am not so good at 1st person rp online or I might have to just enter. good luck with the tournament though.

Okay, let me get clarification from you Warhaven - If you'll look I wasn't speaking of nixing all projectile weapons - I have always felt that it breaks down into two groups -Missile Weapons and Thrown Weapons - an what I was saying was a no go was missile weapons.

Even a saturday night special - a 22 or a 25 -can kill with one shot. And sorry unless you have special powers you can NOT dodge/ parry/ avoid bullets - they just simply move too fast. And lets not get into laser pistols, blasters, disrupters, stunners, flash grenades, and magical weapons- as in most akll gaming systems magical missile/ projectile/ ranged weapons are automatic hit weapons.

I think that in all fairness they ought to be banned as they disrupt the balance of power, but it's your call -

Guns banned, a fireball thrown from my hand, no. I think we're saying the exact same thing in diffrent words.
