Yanitaria
19-03-2008, 11:56
Parliament Building, Yanitaria City
President Norheim sighed. He knew that it would come to haunt him.

He had joined the monarchist party in order to have a chance at winning his election. Unfortunately, he had underestimated his popularity, something which the party had not, and as it turned out, he brought the monarchists to power.

Luckily, the cameras focused on Pascal Benezech, the supposedly Arkadian Head of Parliament, and the last head of the part before Norheim took over in order to run.

Pascal Benezech, a diminutive, homely man, with a rather large forehead, and parted brown hair signed the document in front of him, before throwing a smile to the crowd and cameras (a smile Norheim strongly, although irrationally, wanted to wipe of the little man's face), and symbolically handing off the document to Norheim.

"The Arkadians have won." Thought Norheim. Everything his father had worked so hard for would soon be erased in the single signing of his signature, the presidential approval of the return to the monarchy.

"Not entirely true, they would much rather have one of their own sitting up here. But thankfully they are the only ones." His hand blurred over the paper, in a passive aggressive attempt to make the signature illegible.

While his father had fought a bloody war to make a socialist democracy, free of class rule, his rebellion consisted of an impotently scribbled signature. While Frederick did not believe in a god, he was certain that his father was wildly spinning in his grave.

Meanwhile, the Arkadians would probably be wondering how to best make Frederick more like themselves.

"Never." Frederick Norheim smiled for the cameras, gave them a little wink, before making his speech for the YNW.

"Yanitaria has come into a great cultural circle. Our monarchy, which had been thousands of years old, is now restored, and will continue on into eternity.

However my reign as King of the newly created United Royal Provinces of Yanitaria will be markedly different. From my coronation onward, I vow to uphold the principals of equality that bound my father and his comrades in creating their socialist state. Never again will there be a monarch that abuses the people, or sacrifices their rights in order to placate a small minority that comprises the nobility. This will be a monarchy given power by the people, and trusted to do what is right for the people.

With that said, the Houses will be reestablished, with my own newly created House of Norheim, comprising my family and most trusted advisers of Yanitarii birth.

This change will be, of course, entirely superficial, except for the appointment of Governorship of the Provinces, and certain ceremonial military positions."

The rest of the speech was a blur for Norheim, as a sudden and irrevocable guilt...

Further information

(OOC: This bit is posted in a non-story-form IC, since I just need to state facts that will be released in the coming days)

The URPY will retain the Provinces, which will be governed by governors. Colonies will be governed by Commisarial-Governors, which do not require a title of nobility. Both will be given the title of Lord Duke.

The next level of governance will be at the Marquisat, who's Marquis is democratically elected. A Marquisat is the equivalent of several counties, and the Marquis holds no real local power. The Marquis will serve in Parliament, with the title replacing Member of Parliament. This is why they are democratically elected.

The next level will be the County, which usually consists of a large city, and the outlying area. The Lord Count will be democratically elected, and will mainly be in charge of inter city communication, and making sure the Lord Mayors work together.

The last level will be the Communes, with the Lord Mayor being democratically elected. the Communes are individual cities and townships, and their suburbs (for instance, the city of Houston, TX, and Humble, TX, since the latter is a suburb of the former. There is no lower level than Commune). Beneath the Lord Mayor are the Aldermen, the local judges who also preside over a small area (or in small towns, the whole area), and ensure not only that justice is carried out, but that people abusing the welfare system are punished (to be fair, the latter is carried out by his office, and for reference, the punishment is a week's jail time, and being restricted from collecting welfare until well after they reach retirement. Usually, the time they collected welfare with out actively looking for employment will push back the retirement collection date proportionately).

The King will appoint his cabinet, the former ministers, who will be granted the title of Lord Minister, much like before. There will be a royal family, which consists of the immediate family of the King.

The structure will be thusly. There will be the King and the Queen, the Heir (who will be the oldest child, regardless of sex), and the royal children (who are given the titles of Prince and Princess, based on gender).

Since Frederick's mother is still alive, she will be given the title of Matron of the Kingdom.

OOC:

The coronation will take place in this thread. I'll send out invites to those who aren't on the EA or NOP forums once jolt is back up.

We would like to welcome the return of the monarchy to the honorable nation of Yanitaria, which we are quite pleased to note has been altered so that no singular social class has superiority over all others and has sought to base itself upon the ideals of serving the whole of Yanitaria by designing itself with the people of Yanitaria in mind.

To note the Emperor Ingolf would be more then pleased to attend the coronation of the most gracious Norheim of Yanitaria, as your nation is a close ally of the Scandinvan Empire and due to the fact the Emperor Ingolf has taken the stance of supporting people who will be proper monarchs and in turn good leaders for their people and for their nation.

Emperor Ingolf is of course invited to attend and participate, as discussed a few weeks earlier. We thank his most gracious Emperor for taking time out of his busy schedule to come to Yanitaria for the event. A special seat will be prepared for him later in the evening at the dinner table, next to future king Norheim.

Sincerely,
Jocelyn Eldegaard
Minister of Foreign Affairs

To President Norheim,

I do not know if you have heard, but a tradgy has struck at the heart of the Beatus. President Lange is dead. We are currently attempting to locate the individuals responsible, and set up elections for a replacement. We are sorry, but we will not be able to send anyone to your correlation, and would not be insulated if you were unable to attend Jim's funeral, a date for which has not yet been set.

IC: There should be no dire concerns raised by HIM, Emperor Ingolf III, if the current arrangments remain in place and that the candidate for the crown does not perform any dishonorable acts, yet we believe that both of these things are extremely unlikely. The Emperor would also like to grant President Norheim a sword, forged centuries ago for a long dead Emperor, to serve as a symbol of the nobility and honor that he will have to protect and stand for.

OOC: What ever you want, so long as it's reasonable. If you want, our security can collaborate. Your emperor will also have to say something to the effect of "you have my blessings in ruling your nation, just do it fairly". The other people in the ceremony will say something similar, so just follow their lead.

IC:Yes, we assure you that no dishonorable acts shall be committed by President Norheim. If you feel it necessary, you may send representatives of your emperor's bodyguard to help plan and review the security for the event. As for the sword, this is a most kind and truly generous gift, and we promise to cherish it. The sword will be the center of the crown standard, which is the Yanitarian name for what other countries may call the crown jewels. This includes the crown itself, the royal star, which is a jeweled broach worn by the monarchs of old, and the royal acorn, a heavily jeweled golden acorn, the symbol of Yanitaria, among other pieces of jewelry and miscellaneous treasures which are on display in the Yanitarian Museum of Cultural History.

OOC: Alright he will say something along the lines of defending the people of your nation and acting as a gleaming symbol of virtue and honor to the world, yada yada. To state is your nation trying to become a nation with deep links to the Scandinvan Empire?

IC: The Emperor Ingolf II guard has been infomred of this and they believe that your nation will be able to make sure that their are no real threats to the Emperor when he is in your nation. Neither, are they concerned that even if a threat is to emerge that their efforts, combined with yours, will be able to ensure the Emperor's safety.

As well, the I have asked to state that the Emperor intends to bring many talents of gifts to celebrate the coronation.

Official Statement from the Arbiter

I am happy to see Yanitaria remove itself from the evil that is socialism. Even though I do not personally approve of monarchial forms of government, They can be quite stable and I do see the potential for Yanitaria under a stable, capitalist monarchy. I wish you good luck and prosperity in ruling your nation.

OOC: Hey, TFEI, how's it going? Yanitaria is still going to be socialist, and yes, it sounds weird, but I am trying to set up an interesting nation, instead of something generic.

But yes, really, the only thing that is changing is the structure of the government. There will be largely ceremonial titles of nobility, and the executive branch is hereditary, and the head of parliament is given more power to even things out, but the economic system will stay the same. It'll really be a lot like Norway, with the major industries nationalized, and small business encouraged.

Dear friend.
I congratulate you on your imminent coronation. I wish I could make myself God-Emperor, but Oversight wouldn't have it. But I have to divulge to you, Frederick, that my liver is not well. Therefore, I will be sending Tezla to the coronation. You will find him most amusing, and be prepared, he likes to eat. A lot.

Once again, I wish you well, Comrade. Make sure not to drink too much on the job.

Yours,
