An Excerpt from the Spoletium Post-Intelligencer:
SPOLETIUM, 17 March 2008 (Reuters)--After a long period of declining popularity caused by a significant slip in the national economy and domestic squabbles over the role of the new Atlantican Union, Prime Minister Ryan Schrader's center-left government has lost a vote of no-confidence in the upper house of the Anselmian Senate. In accordance with Anselmian law, this has triggered the resignation of Schrader and his cabinet. However, as the law allows for only constructive votes of no-confidence, the opposition had already nominated their own candidate for the position of Prime Minister, hard-liner Jacques Delacroix. The same vote that forced Schrader to resign effectively installs Delacroix as the new Anselmian Prime Minister. The new head of government now has one month to select the members of his cabinet before facing a formal investiture vote in both houses of the Senate.
Delacroix's right-wing opinions in the past have been decidedly anti-Communist and calling for a much less socialist approach to governing. This will probably mean extensive cuts in welfare in an attempt to save the Empire's faltering economy. While this change in government may serve to help the Anselmian people domestically, it could very well damage the stability of the Atlantican region as a whole. We have heard that Delacroix will soon begin to push for a more military role of the AU and a far more anti-NOP stance. The new Prime Minister will also push for increased cooperation with nations who share his sentiments, most notably Nova Pictavia and the Kingdom of the Benelux.
