Speaking at a press conference this morning, General Somersby cited "complete and total proof" that the President Gregory Hwaine and the members of his Liberal Party, landslide winners in the elections last week, to be spies in the pay of foreign governments seeking to control Itisas for their own economic and political benefit."

"As he spoke, the General's staff provided the press corps with documents pertaining to financial payments from foreign governments to key members of the Liberal Party, including over a million dollars to President Hawine himself. The General promised that the military's control would be temporary, and that new elections would be scheduled in three days to bring civilian control back to the government."

"Following on from this story, military personnel carried out raids on the main offices of the Itisas Socialist Party, the Conservative Party of Itisas and the People's Democratic Front in order to ascertain any other foreign influence within those political parties. A spokesman for the Itisas High Command stated that several officials from various party organisations had been detained for questioning pending possible charges of treason."

National Patriot Party Wins Landslide Elections, Opposition Parties Cry Foul

Itisas City: The National Patriot Party (NPP), a relatively unknown and highly nationalist political party in Itisas politics, has won a landslide victory in both the Parliamentary and Presidential elections, taking over eighty percent of the vote in both cases and placing high-ranking military officials at the top of the government system.

Opposition parties were calling for the elections to be held void following the arrest and detainment of several key members of various political parties and accused the NPP of "harrassment of voters and military collusion."

Shortly before elections took place yesterday, General Jacob Somersby, Chairman of the Itisas High Command, announced that he had taken over the leadership of the National Patriot Party, along with several other high-ranking members of the High Command who have taken key positions within the NPP heirarchy. Following the NPP's electoral victory, General Somersby was declared President of the Republic of Itisas at a closed ceremony at the Presidential Palace.

Speaking at a press conference earlier today, President Somersby declared that "the unification of military leaders into the government of Itisas will signal an end to the treachery of foreign-controlled leaders and traitors within our own political system, and begin the dawn of an era whereby the Itisas government works for the Itisas people." He went to on to declare that "The First Republic of Itisas is now dissolved, and the Protectorate of Itisas is now declared, protected by the military from foreign attempts to destroy our nation and our way of life."

On behalf of my government, I thank you for your words of welcome and heeds of warning against those who may seek to undermine the glorious national revolution of Itisas and return us to control by foreign puppet masters. I also thank the Totalitarian State for its offer of support should such an event occur.

The National Patriot Party
Ten-Point Manifesto

1. The Protectorate is committed to the development of national industries and businesses through the Capitalist manner of production, but under the majority control of Itisas citizens. A law will be passed making it illegal for any foreign individual, group or other concern to hold a 51% in an Itisas business.

2. In order to protect from foreign control and influence, an increase in military spending and a widening of Conscription shall occur in order to protect the Itisas state and train the youth of the Protectorate into a cohesive and patriotic force.

3. Political Parties wishing to contest Presidential and Parliamentary elections will require vetting by a military council (The National Protection Junta) that will determine whether the political party is free from foreign control and influence.

4. Communist, Socialist, National Socialist and Fascist political parties will be banned under Protectorate Law.

5. Citizens will be required to carry compulsory Identification Cards and sign up to a National Register to protect Itisas citizens from foreigners.

6. The Death Penalty shall be introduced for capital offences, including (but not limited to) murder, rape, treason and Crimes Against the State.

7. An internal military agency shall be created, the National Bureau of Civilian Protection (NBCP) to monitor the activities of Itisas citizens in order to root out those contaminated by foreign influence.

8. Asylum Seekers, Economic Migrants and other foreigners will be vetted in order to ascertain their danger to the Protectorate.

9. Those of non-Itisas citizenship shall have no rights under Itisas law.

10. Political Rallies must be registered and authorised by the NBCP before they can go ahead.

Official Government Statement

Whilst my government is fervently against undue foreign control of this country, we are not against the opening of friendly relations with like-minded states in order to better both our peoples and others in a mutually beneficial manner. To this end, the Foreign Office has been instructed to actively pursue relations with other states to create a stronger position for both Itisas and potential allies.
