Dear Government of Mereshka,
I have been given the honor to help choose your next leader. I believe the general would be the best choice. Why? Because he's a general and we generals should stick together! Sorry, that was the whiskey talking. But I believe we can make great war plans to dominate the world! Sorry, still whiskey talking and I am not going to ruin this letter with whiteout. Good day.
P.S. Condolences to the royal family from me. But I do think he will be better for your nation to defend against attack.
Sincerely,

After a day of consideration, my government has agreed that the modernizer would be the best choice for the ruler of your country. Even though I believe a general would be a better choice, the general you suggest is a little... insane. Also, would your country consider opening trade or other friendly activities with Volzgrad? To finish off this letter, I hope your nation prospers under whichever leader is chosen.

My good Premier, (though I must honestly say that I've no idea what a premeir is), it is good to know that I have my support among the worlds nations. I must say that I agree with you about a general being best, yet with all do respect to Lord Sokonu, with his mental state of mind he could possibly lead us to ruin. As for the trade agreement, should I be crowned, I would be most happy to sign an agreement such as this. We will need suppliers of the more modern goods. Our nation has rich deposits of ores such as iron and gold, as well as oil, which I understand is very important to nations such as yours.

Dear Tobias Wall,
Ah, a fellow general. Good, good. We do need to stick together eh? And this is a time when all the world is jealous of Mereshka's glory, and she needs to be defended. So, you like whiskey do ya? Good to know that theres men who can trust what people give 'em to drink. Can't trust my manservant you know. Nope, has it in for me. Makes a good meal though. Please reply back and we'll get to work on those domination plans 'eh?
P.S. Thank you for your kind words. The Emperor was a good friend. His beard was a bit of a chatterbox though.... Got pretty annoying you understand.
Dear Sokonu Misika,
Yes, defense is always a good thing. We have a new defense program that has received the bulk of government funding currently. Were building many new weapons currently. I can give your nation some of the blueprints of the weapons and a few of the weapons it self for no charge. We do not seek profit out of death. Ah yes, a good drink always soothes me. Nothing too weak, and nothing too strong. Your manservant sounds like a good cook, though if you think he's trying to poison you; I suggest you drink from a private flask since you never know. I'm actually quite jealous of your manservant, I mean the head chefs in the forts can cook very well, especially since they actually have experience, thankfully the government hired real chefs to cook. Otherwise we'd probably have stomach problems, my privates and officers are good but they can't cook at all. As for domination plans, we should meet after the election no matter what the outcome. You should keep a keen ear out for your competitors.
P.S. I'm glad to know you stood by your emporer even though something about his beard annoyed you. It seems most of the world's problems are because of looks.

The Commonwealth sees that the righful leader should be one of the immediate family in this secenario, in this case Saya. We would like to say that we feel sorry for her Grandfather's loss. However, we encourage her to look towards the bright future that she could lead her country. Enclosed is a dictionary of all the modern terms used in the world just if she comes up on a word that makes no sense. An example would be that not a lot of "unmodernized" countries do not even know what an aircraft carrier is.

Dear Sokoru,
Well crossbows wasn't what I had in mind but it is possible with the technology Avalic has. We just need to copy most of the design of one of our far ranged weapons except use arrows/bows instead of what we use. I am going to have some weapon producing companies to work on this. It would be, how should I say, automatic to reload. To counter the fact it will be fast to use up all the bolts or arrows we'll make them smaller for you but still lethal. Oh wait, did I forget to mention you'll only need to pull on the string for the bolts or arrows to fire. If you keep holding it, it will keep shooting our bolts/arrows. It's just going to be a bit heavier than the ones you have. But I can also give you some catapults that we had left over several centuries ago. Well make a few improvements to it and restore it as well. I will go to you. I'll be visiting you. We have faster transportation means that you may like.

Dear Tobias
Thank you, this will be most useful. Aoutomatic crossbows? Interesting. I look forward to meeting you, and most definetly wish to see what this 'faster transport' is. You'd be surprised at how fast some of our horses go.
Dear Soroku,
The automatic crossbows are being sent by merchant ships right now as well as the catapults. Have you considered making ships out of steel? The hull is more durable though it is costly. As for the faster transport, I believe most of the population would describe them as steel birds or dragons. I shall be visiting in a few weeks. I have to sign out hundreds of forms to authorize the manufacturing of tens of thousands of bombs.

"This is Sandra Watson reporting live from outside UDD headquarters where apparently the organization is voting to decide which candidate it will endorse for Emperor of the nation of Mereshka. Now, Mereshka, a fuedal Japan-like nation, would most noticably be remembered as providing on of the members of the original Quarantine and Containment Squad. The same force that stopped the First City outbreak some six years earlier.
The three candidates to replace the late Emperor are Sokonu Misika, a prominent general whose mental stability is in question, Hikara Tonoshi, who wants to, to the dismay of many of the Mereshkan government, modernize the country, and finally Saya, the member of the QCS herself who, though in favor with many of the Councilors, is only nineteen."
She touched the earpiece of her headset,
"Hold on, I'm getting an update. It seems that three of the ten nations have cast their vote. The United Human Countries, Covenant Nation of Shenyang, and the Dominion of Ruthless Slaughter have all voted for Hikara Tonoshi, reinforcing the UDD's stance on technology as the great step forward.
It seems, however, that not all in these respected governments approve of the choice. Most outspoken are General Edward Harrison of the UHC and Commander Michael Hawkins of the Dominion who have been reported to try and sway the decisions of their respective representatives. Commander Hawkins is currently being held in contempt for supposedly using his position in Dominion Intelligence to subtly threaten the representative into voting another way, presumably for Saya. That's the news as of 11:03, back to the newsroom for the weather."

Also, my nation is well known for its advanced yet easy to make technology. We also have a rather low amount of oil in Volzgrad so we would be more than happy to trade oil for technology. Then again, simply ask what you want and we will supply the blueprints. Good luck, and my nation hopes you are chosen to lead Mereshka.

Great nations! We would like to thank you, on behalf of all the Mereshkan people, we would like to thank you for your help in making this a peaceful transition. With all the votes in, it seems that Saya, hereby known as Saya Mereshka, is now the Empress of Mereshka! Most of the Shoguns have given their approvel, except fo one Hikara Tonoshi, who refuses to be beat in the race for the throne. It seems that despite our best efforts, it has come to civil war in the end. However, Hikara has begahn importing foreign weapons, such as muskets, while apperently outdated in other countries, are indeed a fiersome weapon here, especially when combined with the already formidable prowess of the clans samurai. As such, the Empress has asked thatthe squad the General Edward spoke of be formed, and requests the one 'Crispy', be added.

The senate has declared all Squad members renegade, the military, however, refuses to acknowledge the sente's decision. Letter to all the nations involved
Letter enclosed in package sent to Ruthless Slaughter, for Micheal Hawkins, from Saya
Hey Mick! Long time no see eh? So, hows everything been? I'm so sorry for causing so much trouble, I never wanted yoiu to 'be held in contempt'. I just hope that it doesn't go beyond that. I would feel just terrible. Say, uhm... Have you heard from Alex lately? I haven't been able to talk to him much. Phonnne service here is risky at best, damn immpossible at worst.
Letter sent via special courier to the Imperial Palace of Mereska
Saya! It's been way too long! Things are going well and I'm enjoying a prosperous career at the head of a wing of Dominion Intelligence. I really wish I could say more, but not over a channel this open and even in person there are things I can't talk about.
Heh, it's no problem, really. You think a judge and a few guards'll keep me locked up? Not that the vote mattered anyway. You're in! Congradulations Saya- er...Empress Saya! Not sure I'll be able to get used to that.
Alex is doing fine physically, though his country is currently going through an outbreak that'd make the QCS look like a picnic. Specialized teams have been sent in to help and the bulk of our troops are on the border keeping them out of the Dominion. Truthfully, I haven't talked to him about anything save business in weeks now, and he sounded strained over the phone. He and Nikolai, Dagger 4, are in charge of the quarantine efforts. I'd imagine he's very happy you're not over there right now and would want me to give you his assurances that he's fine. In fact, I know he is. I'll let him know that you said hello and are doing well. He'll be ecstatic to hear that you've won. Believe me when I say that the decision wasn't ours to make on who we voted for. The government and military are two different beasts altogether.
I don't want you worrying, but it would have been wrong not to tell you. Don't tell him I told you this, or that it's even happening, but I have Dominion Intelligence doing everything in their power to keep him safe and we're prepping the Black Ops themselves to go in and get working. Who knows, when this blows over maybe we can all get together in First City and have a round of beers.
On a final note, being in the position that I'm in, I know that UHC is sending you a squad or two to keep you protected. If you'd like, I can send Black Ops squad Beta on top of that. Alex would probably make a crack about sending second-rate special forces, but they're the best at infiltration and stealth there is. The five of them could keep the palace buttoned up better than a force ten times their size.
All of us the Dominion and Shenyang miss you and look forward to seeing you soon.
Best wishes,
Mick

Of course you can keep your sidearm. I really don't see how it would effect the deal at all. Well, we'll discuss it once you get here.

That's why I hate to rely on mail and whatnot. We should all get together and have that beer sometime. I'm not so sure about the First City though. It didn't go so well last time I was there.
And don't worry, you don't have to call me Empress. We're old friends. Hmm... I hadn't heard that Shenyang was having problems. I hope Alex makes it through. So thats Dag4's name? Hmm.... Never knew that. Its kinda sad when I don't know the real name of a war buddy of mine.
Black Ops huh? Sounds interesting. Alrighty, send 'em in.

IC: The news coming in from Mereshka had barely registered with the Red Tidean Intelligence Commissariat... that is, until the Civil War started. Civil War, in Red Tidean eyes, was an opportunity to gain territory, resources, and/or puppets.
After a careful-as-possible-monitoring(mainly by spy sattelites), a decision was made.
A single Guard's Army Corp of 125,000 men was to be deployed to Mereshka without any prior announcement. A resource rich area close to the 'frontlines'(such as there were in such a backwards nation) was picked to be the landing site for the invasion.
The State Guard, with their helicopters, trucks, and armored fighting vehicles would positively terrify any Mereshkan civilians into submission... assuming the civilians didn't mistake the average Guardsman for a demon anyways.

Mick was seated at his desk, some 20 stories underground. Just outside the soundproofed room beyond the glass doors was a laboratory the likes of which the modern world had only fantacized about. Weapons of every kind were arrayed on racks and multiple firing ranges were set up. Off to one side was a massive titamium and steel-reinforced door marked 'SPECIMENS: DO NOT OPEN'. Upon closer inspection however, the weapons began to seem less...conventional.
Most of the bullets were traditional 6.5 Grendel, but there was an entire set of what appeared to be silvered hollow points filled with some kind of bright, glowing liquid. There were what appeared to be shark suits (chain mail) that had steel inserts on the limbs. All of it was highly unusal and yet the Commander was perfectly at home.
Reading the letter, he smiled and typed up a quick response: 'Will do'
With position came privilege, something he was quite happy about as he donned his black body armor and slid on his All Purpose Vision Enhancement Helmet. The rest of the squad was waiting topside already. The team was to be issued only bolt action sniper rifles and their sidearms. Nothing too advanced and certainly not automatic. Besides, after his showing at UDD headquarters, he was sure they wouldn't mind him cashing some of his stockpiled vacation days.
Strapping on his M-24, he hummed quietly to himself as he boarded the elevator.

I must ask that you not bring your forces into this situation unannounced. This is civil war, not your war. If you do not remove yourself in due time, it can & will be considered an act of war.
Please remove yourself from Mershkan Lands. As you can see, Empress Saya has plenty of aid to deal with the situation at hand.

Congratulations, on winning the election, democracy is a great thing, no? Apparently though, I missed the entire election though my general informed me of what was going on. I wonder if we can open a trade, nothing to do with technology though. The trade mostly revolves around natural resources, I will trade gold, wines, and foreign fish for silks, spices, foreign fruits, and medicinal herbs as my people wants cheaper alternatives to our medicine. I respect you keeping your tradition of an Asian medieval era, though if you do have any citizens afflicted with cancers or other diseases your not familiar of, the doctors of my country opens their arms to your citizens. In return for your trust in us we will also give you as much anesthesia as you need to stop soldiers from feeling pain when doing amputations or surgery. I also enclosed a gift in here. The Avalic Medal of Democracy, made of gold and ivory. You've certainly earned it.

Congratulations on your victory for political office, even though I supported General Soroku. No hard feelings I hope. I heard of the civil war going on and I was wondering if you need help with the muskets. I'm not going to try and break your traditions though, but I will send several thousand kevlar vests if you want, free of charge. I'm pretty sure they can stop a musket bullet, though we haven't used muskets in a few centuries. Think of it as, a different dressing garment instead of a technological advancement. I wish you luck in your reign over your nation.

Edward sat in the back of an osprey modified to be a multi-role Gunship/transport. "ETA, twenty minutes!' Edward flipped open his PDA, for the past hours he had failed to recieve a signal, now he was getting a satalite uplink. "Oy, I've got an uplink!" He shouted over the roar of the props. Most of the squad couldn't hear him, Patrick and Gregory, the closest to him, nodded their heads and continue stripping down their weapons. Edward flipped the top of the PDA and immediatly accessed his e-mail.

Hydria, Ustio North - The House Of Knights
MacMillan sat back in his seat. It was quiet. No sirens, no planes in the air. Nothing. That worried him.
He got up and went to the door. Upon opening it, he found the hall empty.
"Hello?" he called. It echoed down the hall, but no reply came. MacMillan promptly returned to his desk. He pushed a key into the bottom draw, yanked it open and retrieved an 8" Colt Python from the back. Suddenly, a Kingfisher helicopter touched down in the back yard. MacMillan quickly ran out to it, and was relieved to see it was a military helicopter. The door slid open and troops with black suits, face masks and M5A2 Carbines jumped out. They quickly surrounded him, training their rifles on him.
"Who are you?" asked MacMillan, as a man with a officers hat & black leather trenchcoat over his suit stepped out. He didn't reply, he simply pointed to two troopers, who quickly secured the President, by hitting him over the head with a rifle butt. He slumped to the floor. The officer pointed to the troops again, who grabbed his arms and loaded him into the helicopter. The rest of the troops jumped in, the door slid shut and the Kingfisher lifted off.
OOC2: :dramatic music!: Don't worry, he'll be back, but not as you knew him. i'm still working on what's actually happened to him. Oh, and the Vice President is gone too.

OOC: Hehe, shoulda known that this would happen. By the way, anyone feel the need to open a second thread for the entire war thing? Oh, and yes, the civilians will think of the soldiers as demons. If they're were'nt so many, some brave yound men would arrange for a couple priests to banish them, but with an entire army, they will probably just hide in their homes till they are convinced they won't be harmed.
IC: Saya stood at the point Ed had said he would arrive. She stood surrounded by twenty samurai, who had all been warned about the helicopter. She wasn't sure that they beleived her though. True, she probably wouldn't believed it before she had joined the QCS, but nowadays a big metal bird with sevaral wings on its head seemed perfectly normal. Right now all she felt was excitement to be meeting a couple old friends.

OOC: Yeah, a second thread may be needed.
IC:
The CH-53K, one similar to the same one that dropped off a team years earlier, thundered low over the landscape, its downwash churning up wind with a mighty roar. The palace was coming into view, but the crew was focused on the V-22 setting down instead.
"We've contact, range 150!" the copilot yelled into his headset, "RADAR signature matches UHC aircraft."
In the massive rear bay, Mick and the other four operatives had been fully geared up, their black armor seeming to sap all light from the area. Tapping his 'talk' button, Mick responded, "Good, with the way things are going, the more the merrier. Set us down nearby."
The chopper began dropping its RPMs, lowering its altitude steadily. The landing gear deployed about ten feet off the ground and the chopper hovered slightly before descending the final few feet. The rear ramp dropped and the five strolled out, each with an M-24 sniper rifle, and looking like something loose out of hell. As the chopper lifted off, the squad slowly walked toward Saya, their weapons down.
The one in the lead shouldered his rifle and removed his helmet, revealing a very familiar face, "Hello there, stranger, how's it going?"

OOC: Yes, another thread would be preferable...
First, we need to decide whether it should be closed to those currently involved or opened.
Secondly, who should start it?
Thirdly, a seperate OOC thread should be started.
OOC: Yeah, you should make a new thread. The title is going to throw lots of people off. It's use has been fulfilled anyways. It'll be interesting, a war against people with superior weapons and technology, the choice between tradition and defending the people. Though I don't want to over sell it though. But there should be a limit on how many nations would be involved, otherwise we would have a conflict that starts going all nuclear on everyone's ass. First come first serve?
Dear Saya,
I sympathize for your nation in getting involved in a conflict of the Western World. I hope you can pull through this without that many deaths.

The Osprey roared over the smooth stone surface that was to serve as the landing pad for the squad. Edward took a glance and knew Saya was under heavy gaurd, flanking her were twenty Samurai. Edward turned back to the squad and kicked his radio to full output. "All right, listen up, the people down there," he gestured out the window. "are still in an era mirroring mediveal Japan, so they might be a bit suprised at what were wearing." Edward's hands flicked up to the pressure seals on his helmet, and in several quick motions, unlocked them and puled the hissing helmet off his head. "My advice in order to avoid a potential slaughter if taking the wrong way, remove your helmet and keep your guns in there holster or slung." A thump reverberated through the dropship as it touched the ground. "Oh, and a little more advice, the empress may be barley a woman, but show all the respect you can give." The ramp dropped and Edward exited first, heading directly for Saya. He gave a stiff bow, he was used to kneeling before royalty, then straightened out. "Empress Saya, you requested our help, and we are here." He said in slightly skewed Mereshkan. He thought about what he said for a moment then switched to the Germanic spiced English the Union favored. "We arrived as quickly as we could." He said, with another slight bow. "But schlechtem Wetter, bad weather, slowed us down. Bloody hard crossing the ocean." He looked around, in the distance the palace rose to an imposing heigth. Probably more a strategic then aesthetic choice "I'll introduce my squad later, right now I need to know the current situation and how far Johnny Reb has gotten." He smiled a bit. "I apologize, Johnny Reb was a term the Union used to apply to the rebelling faction during the Union civil war, its kind of a custom for Union soldiers to refer to rebels as that." He took a quick glance at the samurai. "A bit heavily gaurded, aren't you? I'm guessing things aren't going well."

Fortunately we've only had minor skirmishes along the border of the clan and Imperial lands. Many of the smaller clans are siding with my cousin. You're help is going to be much appreciated." After that, she smiled and threw her arms around Ed. "It's good to see you Ed. I'm glad you had a safe travel." Under her breath, she added "You used the wrong word for requested.
