OOC Alright then before I start just a few thoughts. I’ve always wanted to have something like the Holy Roman Empire, scatterings of little countries machinating for political power. The larger fiefs are intended for smaller nations who could use a boost in economic power, or manpower, but I believe fairly balanced as not to cause an influx of poor writing but powerful uber countries that have yet to learn the process. Some of the smaller fiefs are perfectly open for larger nations who wish to have a spot in on any future Rping or what have you, especially if an entity like the HRE is formed. For the moment though the following fiefs are for sale, and if this works well I will offer the other half of the country up for sale. For the moment the other half is controlled by the Republican Army who will menace if not hunt you feudal lords down.

The descriptions are left pretty bare, just a few guidelines, but Rp them as you wish, change the city names of course, but please not the entire fief that will make it hell to reference for me personally. Any questions please ask. Please limit yourselves. And I would ask that this be more of a personal union deal, but again that is not a binding request merely my own fantasy.

Emperor Abdicates, it’s Finally Over, Nearly!


Today under pressure from the Imperial Family and the Regency Council His Majesty Emperor Celestine III became Mr. Littorol Austbusch. On June 13th 8:22 PM His Majesty issued the letters of abdication to the Regency Council. The letters not only cover the emperor but also his entire voiding their claim to the Imperial throne of Paloni.

Chancellor Metternich of the Council attempted to dissuade the emperor from his course but ultimately his monarchist ties, and various powers could not assist him in this one last effort, and tonight the emperor is being flown out of the country with his family and two hundred million Dollars in bonds and cash. This is a culminating victory for the Citizens Republican Army who, for the last ten months, has been fighting constantly in the hills around Drein against wavering Imperial Army Groups. This abdication however has seriously turned the tide of battle and two out of three army groups have already surrendered, and a general of the Republican Army has arrived in Danzour to take possession of the Imperial Court.

Before the sun had begun to rise the Regency Council had voted itself feudal and dynastic rights in an attempt to halt the Republican Armies’ march on the capital, which Metternich has called, “An unorganized rabble who will halt at nothing to destroy the stability created in the careful governance of the Imperial family for the last two centuries.” Others within the Council do not share the chancellor’s sentiments and have issued a warrant for his arrest and trial in an attempt to assuage the Republican Army. However there is one last stumbling block before the Empire collapses, the outside world. And though no details have been released the embassy district of Danzour is ablaze with fury.

We may all, however the situation may seem, rest easy in our beds, the war is nearly over and after ten months, I believe I represent everyone at the Merit in saying that whoever wins the conflict, and puts and end to it will have won our hearts. Political affiliation aside I welcome and government that can keep a roof over my head and food on my plate.

In the recent months it has become patently obvious that the Empire of Paloni is no longer capable of governing, even within it's own borders, the people that it has been granted to rule. We wish you good will in you future endeavors and hope that men of honor and means hear our call. Though the Regency Council did not intend for any of the segments of our former nation to be ruled be a foreign democracy, it is in the best interests that the fief is handed over to the Republic of Anagonia, as we view it a respectable and most renowned nation. You will forgive us for our misgivings on democracy but it is so called the will of the people which collapsed the nation into civil war, and has killed thousands of it's own so called constituants. However this is hardly a matter to bring up, as we see the Republic of Anagonia wishes to reign for. The matters is which Governor Justin Yankins sees fit to rule within his newly granted dominion are completely his, and should he wish to turn the sky green that is his perogative. We however must request that no natural citizens leave the country permanatly as we believe in time they should have the ability to reaffirm their loyalties to the Emperor. The Duchy of Labor is official transfered to Anagonian control.

While of course it is entirely within the perogative of any lord to change his title, it should be noted that thees titles were made and maintained to keep a sense of national unity, even as the country is ripped apart. The religious and aristocratic form the backbone of the Duchies currently being offered, and though you could change the same to something more suiting the proletariat, we do not believe it wise. The monarchists are is fairly firm control is these regions, and should their culture, history and sense of nation were destroyed in one fell swoop, the least you would face would be civil outrage and insubordination. The move would not allow for a happy population of even a peaceful one and we would be obliged if violence could be avoided. However once a fief has been purchased the Regency Council has no more say in how it is governed.

The below pretty much seals the deal however, though I can reopen the auction, and you could technically buy the legal rights, you would in all probability have to fight for it.

Bogdan Danilov stepped into the small room, ducking through a door pushed open just enough to slip through, nervous of what he might find within. The room itself was not in itself very threatening; it was a relatively small, white-walled room, with a single tall fern in the rear-left corner, and a black metal desk with a faux wood top, adorned with a single squat lamp and a pile of manila dossiers. The only strange thing about the room was the singular lack of windows, but that - in itself - was not especially frightening.

What he was worried about, however, was present, and was well worth worrying over, least worth more than the room. This thing was Mr. White, the foreign affairs officer of the Dominion of Emperor Pudu for the last thirteen years. He stood roughly six feet tall, bearing shoulder-length straight hair, colored to match his name; or perhaps he was named to match the color...

Bogdan did not worry about that, though. He worried about why Mr. White might seek to invite him to his office. Before he could think to much of it, though, Mr. White spoke,

"Mr. Danilov, welcome." He gestured to a single wooden-frame, uncomfortable looking chair in the center of the room, in which Bogdan immediately sat. Mr. White never stood during Bogdan's entry.

He continued, "I am sure you are unaware of the reasons for this summons; I myself would have found this meeting unlikely nought but three days ago. However, here we are."

There was a short silence, and Mr. White, seeing Bogdan had nothing to say, he continued, "Alright, I will introduce myself, first. I am Mr. White, our Emperor's foreign affairs officer, as I'm sure you're aware, although we have never before met."

Bogdan remained uncomfortable, and the chair was not the half of it.

Mr. White went on, "That is not to say I do not know of you; quite the contrary, over these last few days' events, I have taken quite an interest in you. You have been summoned here, not in your capacity as an Imperial Senetor, but as an Imperial Commandant. Although your service in the Senate is impeccable, your leadership of GC-2466 has enlightened me to your possible uses beyond this Dominion."

Bogdan remained thorough confused, and thusly silent, not wanting to say anything inappropriate or damaging. And so, once again, Mr. White paused, stared, and started again, "Before the full purpose of this meeting is revealed, you must first gain some insight into the recent foreign affairs of this Dominion. Only hours ago, a deal was finalized with the recently collapsed Empire of Paloni, regarding the sale of land and titles to the Emperor, to the tune of twenty-five trillion USD,"

Bogdan was certainly surprised at the sum, but this time, there was no silence, Mr. White pressed on, "Another twenty-five trillion was put forward by our friends across the way, the rat-folk. Now, the bidding has been finalized, and the Emperor has been made rightful owner of what is known as the Kingdom of Marsburg, almost nine-hundred thousand square kilometers, encompassing six-hundred and thirteen million people."

Mr. White continued to talk, even as Bogdan's expression turned from surprise, to awe, to confusion, especially as the monologue drew to a close, "The reason you have been summoned, Mr. Danilov, is directly related to this purchase. Mr. Danilov, you have been selected to serve as Imperial Regent of Marsburg; you will administer the Emperor's fief, in his name."

Now confused, but aware that he was bound to this, and understanding the outlines of his new duties, Bogdan Danilov thought it prudent to speak, "Mr. White; I am honored to accept this position, in the Emperor's name..."

"Yes, save that kind of thing for the Emperor, you'll be meeting him," This, itself, threw Bogdan back to the depths of terror; no one met the Emperor. Mr. White, and his counterpart in the possibly overlapping Office of Foreign Relations, Mr. Grey, were some of the only people who ever did meet him, which led to an Imperial doctrine largely laid out by ministers and preached to men who had never even seen their Emperor...

"But first, you need more information. You'll be leaving in six hours, there is a ship waiting for you in PC-1222. Your train there leaves in four, but you'll have time. In your room on the ship, you'll find a complete dossier, but I believe you should at least have a working knowledge of your domain and duties before you pledge your service to the Emperor..."

Bogdan nodded, and Mr. White continued, "Alright, first of all, there is something that will be made clear; The Kingdom of Marsburg is not the Dominion, the Emperor has expressed his desire for the Kingdom to remain independent of his other Pudite holdings; therefore, once you leave this country, you will be considered a foreign official. You are soon to be the head of a foreign government, and rule a foreign people. That said, you will obviously epxect to maintain strong ties here. For example, a division of Imperial Army infantry will be meeting you there, and their General, a man called Khotiak Sirot, will be responsible for establishing what will be your military."

Bogdan nodded again, but was given to time to speak, "Remember, what is in that country is still the Emperor's domain, but it will remain his, and not annexed to our Dominion here. You will fly the Emperor's personal crest on your flag, ecetera. Once your rule is established, you will set about modernizing the country as much as possible, with significant aid from us back here, obviously. Do you understand these duties?"

"I do sir, and will endeavor to-"

"Yes, I'm sure you will. Remember; you are the personal representative of the Emperor to these people, you will always keep to yourself the dignity of that position, that is to be your most important duty."

"Yes sir,"

Mr. White cut him off again, "Now, we must hurry. You are expected, it would not do to be late. Come, you leave in four hours..."

Official Communiqué
To: Regency Council of the Empire of Paloni
From: Mr. White, foreign affairs officer

The Emperor is elated that the bidding has concluded successfully, and expresses his greatest affection and gratitude towards the Regency Council and people of the Empire of Paloni.

However, the Emperor himself cannot, obviously travel to maintain his new domain, as his duties at the head of the Dominion are great. Therefore, he will send in his stead an Imperial Regent, an Imperial Senator and Commandant, and member of the Pudite Noble caste, Mr. Bogdan Danilov. He has served amiably at home, and will hopefully fulfill his responsibilities overseas with equal wisdom.

Mr. Danilov will arrive in six days, by ship, accompanied by a cache of equipment, supplies, and personnel to administer his new government. Arriving to personally confirm the purchase, prior to the arrival of the Regent, will be Imperial Pudite Army General Khotiak Sirot and his staff. He will travel by plane, and will be shortly followed by a small Imperial Navy flotilla, transporting the twenty-thousand Imperial Army infantrymen of the 122rd Mechanized Infantry Division, to be commanded by General Sirot.

These men will remain in-country to train and equip a local force, and thereafter as long as possible to maintain security following a community hostile to the Pudite leadership of the Kingdom, but the Emperor would like to stress a point; that being, the Kingdom of Marsburg will remain independent of the greater Dominion. Although the countries will share a leader, the people of Marsburg will not owe their allegiance to any foreign nation or people. They will remain of the Kingdom of Marsburg, albeit with a new Emperor.

This is not to say that the Dominion will not take notice of actions against the Kingdom, and the Emperor would also like to stress his willingness to you, the Regency Council, and perhaps be forced to show later, to the international community, his willingness to use every resource at his command to defend his new Kingdom.

Once again, the Emperor is pleased to hear of the successful conclusion of the auction, and optimistic regarding the future of the Kingdom of Marsburg.

Official Government Message
Firstly we would like to thank you for accepting our bid and answering our questions. We will be starting immediately to gradually transition the nation over to new government.

The idea was that the region would eventually become independent and although it would still be considered a colony of Orbath, it would remain separate with its own laws, constitution and government services and have the ability to change them, in almost every case.

The government of Orbath had experience with creating governments from the past, having created two out of an anarchic, war torn region. Luckily, this area was not anarchic and actually welcomed a government, even one that was given to them, not elected.

Although President Andrews, now officially designated President James Andrews, President of Orbath, His Excellency the Count of Throppe was the new head of state, his loyalties lay with Orbath. Although he had the power to do almost anything, he would instead appoint a representative and eventually, the people might possibly elect one of their own. The representative was now retired General Robertson, former theater commander of not only Orbathian but also some Anagonian units within the Cripistan theater. He was chosen for his military knowledge, people skills and past work in creating governments. High ranking officers in the Orbathian military receive diplomatic training so he wouldn't just be your average shoot and ask questions later oppressive military leader. It was a good thing too, this man would hold quite a large amount of power.

The first task on the long list was to actually secure the nation. In a normal case, this would mean large numbers of Orbathian soldiers and tanks patrolling the streets. In this case, the people were mostly peaceful and gun totting rebels were not a problem. It was decided that instead of heavily armed combat troops, military and civilian police officers would primarily be the show of force in urban areas while the actual military would likely only be used to secure the borders.

From bases in Orbath, C-5 and C-130 aircraft loaded up with everything from police officers to tanks to political leaflets took to the air, heading for a new land.

OOC: Couple more questions. Has the former military and police services of the old nation left behind weapons and technology and is so, what kind? Am I free to create a new flag?

Thunderheads were dragged to the mountain as the day rolled by, great mounds of low hanging grey clouds that while not raining, gave the impression that rain was in the inevitable future and the storm could wait until you opened the door and put your foot out the door.

“So, your ‘Excellency of the Regency Council’” the voice was filled with sarcasm and a disdain immeasurable, and the face matched well. “How many of you are there? We’ve already captured four, at the castle of Wittenschau before we withdrew, how many more?” General Cressona did not yell, nor even threaten but asked calmly the prone man, as if he were speaking to a child. “Tell me.”

“There are five of us, you have us all.” The man moaned through broken teeth.

“Yet we do not have Chancellor Metternich, would the Council not wished to be advised by the only competent man in the Empire, would they cut off their own hands? You desperately wish to try my patience Councilor, at least tell me your name, it would makes things so much less formal?”

The prone man shook his head without looking up and started to move his head back and forth as if he wouldn’t listen to any more. The General threw up his hands and retreated to his desk where he slowly sat and templed his fingers, tapping them together gently as he watched the councilor rock back and forth on the ground.

“Take him sergeant and put his other eye out, you still have the other?” The soldier nodded as he dragged the councilor to his feet. “Good, good, that is good wrap them in silk and send them to the, “ he paused and screw his face up in concentration, “the Almatti family of Quillion, probably anyway.” The general shooed the soldier out with the moaning councilor, and reclined back in his desk. It was a good desk, it had to be, he would have accepted no less, it was the Emperor’s own, and the fine scroll work around the legs and silver sheathed legs gave brightness to the otherwise dull room. For a moment Cressona traced a small heart carved into the ancient wood. Then with a shake he slammed his hand down on the table, “Your Excellency I am ready.” The general straightened his coat, and carefully tucked a strand of hair back into place.

“Thank you for seeing me on such notice and not cutting out my eyes,” another man walked in and stood to attention, offer a short salute before sitting without permission, “I am most indebted.”

“It is nothing,” the general’s hand waved about dismissing all things, “heard that did you?”

“Rather clearly, it may be considered unkind.”

“These are difficult times, unpleasant things must be done, the Regency Council has sold our country, has placed our countrymen into bondage, broken the constitution and are making a killing out of it. They spout that bullshit about the Emperor, he’s not coming back, it’s not profitable for the Council.”

For a moment the new comer looked confused, “I meant that the Almatti family get a door prize and the King of Marsburg gets nothing. It seems rather rude.”

“Your absolutely right,” Cressona stood and strode to the door where he shoved it open, “Sergeant cut off his hands, keep the ring on it, and send it to the King of Marsburg, with a kindly worded invitation to die by our hands please, thank you.” The door clicked shut, “now why, your Excellency is Waldenburg, of all places interested in helping our little revolution. Especially when you represent the His Most Gracious Imperial Majesty?”

Brushing a small fleck of invisible lint of his jacket the man gave a little self knowing smile, “It was the Emperor of Paloni who declared independence from Waldenburg, if monarchy does nothing else it breeds a long memory, we do not forget a grudge. Now,” a slim folder was produced from the Waldenburgers jacket, “how do you feel about B-1 bombers, say two hundred of them?”

“She says it’s not me, well then who the hell is it?” The rifle swept the street expertly occasionally pausing on people strolling peaceable about their business. “I mean if she had the balls to come out and say it…”

“She has someone’s balls now…”

“Oh come on,” the rifle twitched with his annoyance, “this is real, this is my life. I can’t just…”

“Oh.. Honor guard by the fountain,” both fell silent and the steely barrel swung to the fountain where there was indeed an honor guard still dressed, without any contrary orders, in the Imperial colors of Littorol Austbusch, and carrying a halberd. It was heard to describe the uniform, but if one had to try it would start with pantaloons, and feathers. “It’s a kindness we kill them you know. Come on take him down, I’m hungry, and I think we’re having field rations today.”

“Yummy,” a finger was applied to the trigger and the bullet swooshed out of the gun and within the course of a second connect with the collar bone of the guard spinning him around and throwing him into the fountain.

“You missed,” his spotter accused him pointedly.

“Yep, “ he said darkly sliding another bullet into the chamber, “let’s see if I miss the medics?”

“Eh,” the spotted groaned as the sirens began to roar, “you a big man, going to take down the King of Marsburg all by yourself?”

“Don’t know,” the scope was pressed to the sniper’s eye, “going to try.”

OOC Orbath the Police force is still intact for all intents and purposes, in most places anyway, the army has deserted, or defected. Most of their equipment has fallen into the hands of the RA, and what you do find is going to be very outdated. 1970's tech level. The navy though of course has seen little to no action and they, though small are still intact. Mostly brown water though, it's up to you really after that. As for a map, I again have nothing capable of doing a map, but if someone else did that would be great. Go ahead with the new flag too.

OOC The last line sounded a bit like a threat of embargo albeit by only a list of corporations. It doesn't matter I suppose.

I must say sorry for us not blocking out all telecommunications, its just sometimes, some people get so competitive that it all goes to their heads. But, seeing that we would not know how to do with Wittenshcau's internal problems, and that Loath is not exactly what we were looking for, this must humbly be one of the last few telegrams we will be sending about the matter. Diplomaticly, we will still be in contact, and still be able to trade (again, if people cooperate) and exchange various goods and services. Our last hope was Augsburg, however, it seems to be reserved for the Empire.

The rain pattered gently on the roof. The wind whispered quietly on the doors. The clouds folded gracefully from the blades. A taste of honey lingered on.

Finally, Tucker stepped out of the helicopter, wearing silk clothing with a stunning white robe on him. The clothing was a bit disused, most of the time he was in one of his hundreds of pinstripe suits with a fidora, but now he was a nobleman and leader, not a businessman and exploiter, even though he was still a capitalistic imperialist. He looked about briefly, pulling his robe's hood over his head to block out the drizzling rain.

His eyes drank in the sight calmly, and enjoyed every little beauty of the Free City. Soon, if he had his way, the city would be even more grand! Those awful cars would all have to go, but in their wake beautiful marble streets, ultramodern trams, beautiful horses and carriages, and more! Likewise, the buildings would need some reworking, but in this category he could find no flaw, only categories to amplify even more. Finally, his eyes turned to the crowd of people standing before him. They were a little shaken up from the brief chaotic times that had engulfed them, some bore the marks of battle with the rebels, but for the most part they were acceptable, and certainly hopeful.

Walking like a god, for that was surely what he was, he stepped up to a podium, and smiled serenely. "I am Sir Tuckersworth Boot of Vantanas, and I am your new Administrator General, your Lord and Protector forevermore. I understand that there was attacks on this glorious city by the Rebels, and I assure you that this will never happen again. Mine is an order of peace, stability, and prosperity! Furthermore, I will not be allowing this peace to simply reign here, as I will be opening up the city to those loyalists devestated by the war, the hordes of Palonian refugees whose cities were destroyed! But no more talk of the chaos the Rebels bring, we have preperations to make. Remember this, the party of a lifetime in one fortnight, at the palace, and all of Paloni is invited!"

There were mixed reactions at the beginning of the speech, but by the end there was an outburst of applause and a standing ovation. Then, as soon as Tucker and his men vanished into the Palace, the community began preparing for the celebration. Flowers were hung in every window, the last of the Rebel's devastation was cleaned up, foods were prepared, dancers began training, and everything was a buzz of prepartion.

In a few hours, the cargo aircraft had been offloaded. Of course, the County had no proper international airports but did house several civilian airfields which for the moment would become forward operating bases for the police and military.

Over the nation, leaflets fell. Different leaflets showed different messages. Some showed pictures of Orbath and encouraged the people that they could too prosper. Others were reassuring, showing Orbathian soldiers and police in past operations helping the people. Still more showed different corporations that would soon be moving in and would offer the people jobs, education and the benefits that went with them.

A large convoy snaked along a country road, destined for the capital. The convoy was made up of several limos, armored police vehicles, regular police vehicles, several military vehicles and several military vehicles not in service with the Orbathian military. The convoy entered the capital, its destination the town square. Along the way, vehicles pulled out of the convoy, heading for different buildings of the former government. The convoy reached the square, and the police vehicles created a barrier against an accumulating crowd. IFVs pulled behind them, allowing soldiers to dismount and take positions. Figures clad in black combat uniforms appeared around one of the limos and high above on buildings overlooking the area.

General Robertson was actually on the nervous side. He'd addressed large crowds of soldiers, even been to massive media press conferences but those were nothing compared to this. He was a head of state and he held immense amounts of power. He checked himself over in the dark reflective window of the limo before opening the door and stepping out. He was lead up a ramp onto the tall steps of a building.

Robertson looked out into a crowd of faces. Radio messages broadcast from aircraft above had informed the people he would be speaking. It appeared people had flocked from all over and he couldn't blame them, who would want to miss this, it was history.

''Good day, I am retired General Arnold Robertson of the Orbathian Armed Forces. I am the new Viscount of The County of Thorppe and as such, I feel I should tell a bit about myself.''

Robertson addressed the crowd as though they were all his friends and he was merely telling them about something that had happened.

''I was born in Orbath City, to proud parents. My mother was a military nurse, my father an infantry soldier. From a young age they encouraged me to pursue both education and physical fitness. In school I received several academic awards and played on several sports teams. Upon graduating I attended Orbath Military College and I was trained as a military officer. I graduated two years later, enrolled as a naval officer aboard an aircraft carrier. Over the years I switched ships and was promoted many times, eventually serving on the ONS Overstrike, a carrier, as force commander in a place called Cripistan. While there, I commanded over 5 million soldiers and helped to bring order to the nation, creating two states. I have since retired and have now been sent here.''

Robertson paused, surveying the crowd. Many seemed interested.

''Your former nation has seen things nobody should ever be forced to see. You have been through unthinkable things, suffered through extreme violence at the hands pf the old government. This will no longer occur. Many of you can't even begin to imagine what will begin to happen, the changes that will occur but don't fear, these changes will benefit you, I assure you of that. Orbath does not look to oppress you, it looks to free you. As my first act as The Honorable Viscount of The Noble County of Throppe, I urge you all to participate in the growing changes... only you can shape your nation!''

The crowd was now thrilled, applauding and screaming. The General stepped down, got in his limo and many of the cars from the convoy left. Still, several police and military units remained behind, allowing members of the crowd the chance to look at their vehicles and weapons and even sign up for service.

The following night, military units established themselves along the border, completing fences and checkpoints. UAVs would patrol the border, ensuring they were well protected.

In the towns and cities, military and police units took control of former government buildings and in a few days, Orbathian police would be patrolling the streets just like back home.

As the 1.6 million people of Littlenburg, crowded at approximately 69 people per square mile, rallied to their small villages and cities, small detachments of Shansekian Army forces headed toward every village with more than 50 people, carrying wide-screen TV's and massive stages for larger cities. Citizens ran for their cramped, dirty apartments as military jeeps drove through the dirt roads to the central plaza of each city, town, or village. Creeping out of there buildings, they could see the military setting up a TV screen on their respective plaza. Managing to get a signal, the TVs' static screen was replaced by a picture of President Arnold Fukada.

"Greetings, people of Littlenburg." introduced the president, smiling. "I apologize for this informal communication, but I am currently handling foreign affairs. I am your new leader, President Arnold Fukada, and I have good news for you all. The Shansekian 2nd Army has been mobilized to protect you - even now, armored vehicles and troops march through the area, securing borders and protecting you all from rebels. Along with them is the Shansekian Blue Cross Association, which has generously offered to take care of your health and life condition needs. Shansekia Corporation is also coming as well, and will build factories to help find jobs in the shipping, heavy industry, and manufacturing industries you strive at."

"There's more," the screen announced, leaving a dramatic pause for the people of Littlenburg to converse. "From now on, this fief known as 'By the Grace of God the Illustrious and Noble Margravate of Littlenburg' will now be known as "The Shansekian Province of Littlenburg', as the name is shorter and fits with the situation. All I ask of you, Littlenburgites, is your loyalty to Shansekia, and to the Circular Phoenix Flag, which is being raised over your cities as we speak." Citizens, shocked, turned towards their respective town's flagpole was being stripped of the Paloni flag and being replaced by the Shansekian Flag (http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc35/xyhuang/shansekiajpg.png).

The president continued, "When it is deemed you are secure, you will become the Autonomous Republic of Littlenburg. This means 100 seats in Shansekian Parliament, full representation, and your own president. Of course, you will still be under our rule."

"I know this is hard on all of you, the war, having to switch allegiance all of a sudden. But I promise you, people of Littlenburg, that you will reach prosperity. We will make you agriculturally sustainable, we will make you a fief of all Paloni fiefs! Littlenburg will be a name known throughout this forsaken land! You will rise to the likes of great cities such as Shansek, skyscrapers gracing the azure skies!"

"I ask of you, to join me in this cause. For the only way this can end, my friends, is prosperity. For Littlenburg!" As TVs started playing the Shansekian National Anthem (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSKL5E3zSjs), cheers went up throughout Littlenburg and laughing Shansekian soldiers fired their rifles and submachine guns into the air as confetti was rained down by Shansekian helicopters. Finally, they had something to be joyous about. Not only peace, but prosperity!

The aircraft was flying over the large city of Fennel, while inside, in a modified area, Edward Vaughn, in a black trenchcoat, was explaining the last details of the plan they had to do, for it would be audacious, risky and potentially dangerous regarding the political intrigues nearby, to a staff of 80 people, all part of what would consist in perhaps the shortest government of history, a government which goal was to abolish itself.

"Listen up! This is not a revolution simulation! We have 2 months to free 312 millions from the cultural bonds of a monarchist limited sight, to make those who before knelt to king an emperors know bow only to freedom and truth and to become from submissive and passive subjects, rulers of their own fate! This won't be easy and this process will certainly draw some unwanted attention. We will have long days during these 2 months, and things will be difficult, expect reactionary adherence and potential resistance from the bastions of reactionary thought: The Church, the Bourgeois, the protest-breaking Pigs and the possible vagabonds of the Noblesse who might still be there. But for now comrades! We must try to keep some discretion about our plan. We must first find potential dissidents to support our cause, by pretending to be oppressors, we must have every of them who refuse to obey blindly in our side if we want to eventually abolish every trace of hierarchy from this land! If you have any better idea or disapprove my plan now it is the time to discuss!"

Jason Trent quickly arose from his seat:

"Shouldn't we build up some forces before revealing our intentions? From the information I gathered they have a quite obsolete military. Fortunately we "borrowed" the blueprints from MilNet and will have a decent, modern ground military by about 1 year from now and the Air Force by about 2 years from now."

"Comrade Trent! We cannot stay too much in power! That would be too dangerous for you know power corrupts and it'll only make it much more difficult later to change the mindset of the Krellians! We must announce that everything is about to change, and we must do it now! If we cannot stand against the threats we aren't fit for this revolution from inside"

"Yes, but change must happen from bottom to top, not from top to bottom... I think you know why, Edward, for the instrument of freedom must be coherent and teach the people of our ways through the grassroots of democracy I suggest we to sow and promote in secrecy while we pretend to have a monarchy over them, I believe this is a superior choice for what we must achieve for the cause of anarchism!", Trent argued.

"But we must give the first example, we must immediately renounce from government and declare it obsolete, walk the talk people! We cannot just use pretty words and think the people will believe in them, we must act to prove them it's the best way for mankind!", an woman said as she rose from her seat to join that discussion.

"You are forgetting something comrades! The revolution and the war cannot be separated! Those who are benefited by the status quo won't give in peacefully to the changes we are to promote no matter how we enlighten their minds for they are beyond salvation: a parasitic lifestyle corrupted their humanity... remember that old history of the overthrown king who didn't know how to tie his shoes for even for that he had someone who did it? Those pompous fat pigs won't give up without a fight and they'll have the cops on their side! This will not be peaceful comrades! We must not only create grassroots democracy, but prepare ourselves for the conflict that shall inevitably happen while we change Kell for better into a land of freedom and equality for everyone with no bourgeois or monarchist filth to kneel and bow to!", another man said, raising from his seat at the back of that room in the airplane.

Edward Vaughn frowned a bit due to the overall situation of lack of consensus that was building up among them. Some suggest to wire explosives to the government palace to symbolize more physically the abolition of the monarchist State, while others advocated a violent revolution and overthrow of whatever still remained of "The Man" there. He ignored most and after things calmed down and the voices of them stopped spontaneously, he focused on the man who suggested that all government people should be murdered as a propaganda of the deed and to the woman that suggested they to immediately declare the government abolished and said:

"We must be reasonable comrade Garland! Not every single people who works at the government is a corrupt scum or sadistic pig! There are those few, misguided but honest people who blindly believe they are there for a greater cause. Also, not all businessmen are pigs! There are those who work hardly and honestly among the flocks of vagabonds who live in luxury, carried by the sweat and blood of the worker class! We must not generalize and only eliminate those who deserve death as they threat the future of their own people and exploit them like the greedy pigs they are: only those provenly corrupt, exploitive and sadistic must be eliminated, and we must gather files and documents about executions, tortures and alike to put all who did such crimes against mankind to justice, and logically liberate all "political prisoners" who might still be there. And yes Felicia! you are probably right about it... the infrastructure will be already on the way and we can take advantage of existing computers to create a democratic network... but at the same time there is a major threat of our plans being discovered before they are ripe for execution. Instead, I got a new idea that you hopefully will agree with. Did you know that during feudalism the king was insignificant regarding political power, which was instead decentralized into feudal lords? Now what if we remake this equation, replacing feudal lords with decentralized communes under a direct democratic and libertarian principle? We'll have an immediate change while keeping a facade of maintaining the status quo for the neighbors! I'll be the "prince regent" but my authority will be purely symbolic and at best, diplomatic, as part of a sham to not make the Paloni or authoritarian forces around feel threatened by us! And we'll make the economic transition smoothly, just capping the big monopolistic corporations first, and then giving incentives to small and medium business, where usually the owners still work rather than just slacking off, to become cooperatives... or if necessary, giving incentives the workers to take over the factories they are the rightful owners of by force. So, do you agree? Just raise your hands, there is no need to wait our computers to boot and to initiate a networked voting session now."

Most raised their hands on his idea as a sign of approval... now everything was set. He would be officially the Prince Regent of Kell and his comrades the "noblesse" as a way to avoid scaring, but in truth, the real power would be instead in the hands of the people and a quick but mostly smooth transition from a capitalist to a neo-mutualist free market would begin in a few days.

They were, as expected, escorted by a bunch of bureaucrats from the airport to the castle, remaints of the previous government which they would soon judge... all corrupts and torturers of people would meet death, and the few honest among them would have a great opportunity to adapt and benefit from the changes that were to happen. Edward pretended to smile at that reception, expecting most of them were there for selfish interest rather than legitimate loyalty, while they were escorted to a convoy of cars towards the majestic castle. The poor, innocent masses moved towards the courtyard of the castle to await for what would be the first speech of the new Prince Regent and make their first impressions. Used to the rule of autocrats, they wouldn't be ready yet for the changes, but the example would be given eventually, for all to follow.

The local police was dismissed, for all of the new "ruling class" had their own personal weapons, the 10mm caliber SF-27 personal defense submachineguns and P70 caseless pistol, which were a few of the many supplies they brought there among assault rifles and a few machineguns, and they dismissed many of the pleasantries, taking the automobiles for themselves to drive, telling the servants that they should stay with their families and children instead, which were the most important patrimony of Kell.

It were a few hours before they finally arrived at the white castle, which raised over the hill, at its courtyard nearby its church which was at the background of that magnificent garden with several different flowers, now entirely occupied by a large quantity of former subjects awaiting for what they mistakenly expected to be their new master. Edward got off from his vehicle, escorted by his armed comrades he stood in a podium with an already prepared microphone, and cameras were set to broadcast his crowning as the new prince regent across Kell, while a black and red flag with a black and red star was raised, blowing with the wind in the tallest tower of the castle. It seemed they weren't aware such was a less known symbol of the anarchist ideal and thought it was simply a noble family symbol or alike. All part of a set show of bread and circus designed to maintain the people submissive to the establishment they were expecting to be kept, with only a different ruler, but they had no idea of what they truly wanted. Arising from his car, this prince had not a mantle, but a black trenchcoat. He was not adorned by gold and jewelry neither, and had an immediate smile to the cameras.

An important local clergyman, probably a bishop, offered Edward his greetings, kissing his ring finger, which he quickly returned by offering a handshake and with a few words. It was not the moment to declare he was an agnostic who considered organized religions as evils to the human race. He talked with that bishop, asking his name and more information about Kell and returning some information, of both truthful and not so truthful nature, to the bishop who received him in the castle church. For a while they talked, while his comrades listened attentiously to the conversation. Finally the bishop decided, after politely asking him, to announce through the microphone, in a way that seemed unsettling pre-set.

"By the grace of God, blessed be His word, today we receive in our principality not a subject of a greater kingdom, to annex us and lead us to learn their culture, but a new, yet to be crowned prince to preserve our traditions, our culture and our sovereignty, who will lead us to a new era of prosperity and progress! Today loyal subjects of the principality, I present you to His Highness, Prince Regent Edward Vaughn, of the Vaughn house of noble geniuses of wealth, prosperity and governance!"

Applauses were heard, for everyone met new rulers with a major of optimism, and this time, their optimism wouldn't be betrayed. He arose to the podium, adjusting the microphone and his green eyes looking over the general public. He seemed quite old, with his 50 years of age, being one of those who were already adults when Third Spanish States was nothing but a dream, a man who built and shared a financial empire with his comrades, an intelligent, hard-worker of impressive ethics who refused to accept wage labor, to reap what he did not sow with his own hands or to use wealth for vain, luxurious ends, for he could, if he wished, implant hairs on his now bald head or paint his remaining beard to disguise its grayed color, but he considered such things "futile wastes of resources that could be used to improve the world" and cared very little about his external looks, for "a man must be judged by his deeds, not by his beauty", and despite his personal fortune he never did a single plastic surgery, nor he was an owner of any manor or luxurious, superfluous patrimony, a very hardheaded utilitarian and philanthropist who, between funding a school and buying a Ferrari, would definitively choose the first. Possibly born and involuntarily raised to be a leader, but refusing to be one on principle and his unwavering belief that every man should lead his own fate instead of being leaded, he began his speech.

"I thank bishop Saruzzi for his presentation of this great moment in what is now our history. For I have come here not on behalf of a foreign nation to annex our lands, I have come here not for corporations or kingdoms from the outside, but for Kell. I shall not ever teach you the culture where I came from, but, as a duty I promise to accomplish in at most a year, learn and embrace your culture and universal values beyond time and history which make Kell sovereign. And I believe that it is a minimum sign of trust that I shall announce to you that like it is my duty to, what I have planned to bring progress and prosperity to Kell."

At this moment, there was nothing that had surprised the people around, just the same old speeches that tended to be said by many different voices, which most only listened to in await of the party that would happen thereafter. However, to the despite of much of the establishment, everything was about to change, and somehow, this time his words were captivating the audience more than those of an actual previous heir to the throne, for it seemed his power did not emanate from that position he purchased, whatever power his had was his personal power... emanating not from a God, and neither a selfish power, but an extension of the power of the people opened through the clear honesty he spoke with, for he did not want the people to adapt to him, but he wanted to genuinely adapt to the Kellian culture, while also bringing in a gradual but relatively quick process major political and economic changes adapted to their cultural values rather than Confederacy's values. His tone increased and the people listened with attention when he was about to say words that would signal that Kell would change forever.

"First, people of Kell, let it be known that from now on, any rule restricting the right of freedom of speech, of lifestyle, of faith, of political organization, of opinion or any other personal or group freedom is immediately lifted by my decree, and equally all those previously arrested for breaking such rules shall be immediately freed, for a ruler will never have any wisdom if he is deprived from the honest and legitimate voice of the people on his deeds and a people shall never progress if forbidden to try new approaches, for a true governor is not one who is served by the people, a true governor is one who serves the people and allows them to define their own fate, a governor who seeks to listen them with tolerance and open ears, bring them happiness, joy and significance in life, with progress flowing unrestrained as much as a natural river flows unrestrained by dams, and I want to hear your honest voice about Kell, I want to hear everything which you believe to be wrong, everything which you think that should be improved, for he who rules with his people can make works much beyond of he who rules without his people.

From this day on, all the dams which restrained progress shall be lifted, for I have a deep trust that you shall know and benefit wisely from such advances. Advances however require adaptation, we'll have all to look into ourselves, to question and ponder, for what should we believe? What should we follow? What should we consider? Where should we take from here? Such questions do not have finished answers... the answers we are always building, before, today and tomorrow. But sometimes the answers become only repetitions of our yesterday answers... barriers to progress we must learn to overcome if we want to have our sovereignty maintained in the coming years. For I have witnessed not only glory and prosperity, but also misery and destruction... wars, slavery and death are happening right at this moment, for those who progress will take over those who don't, and it's my duty to ensure that we shall progress in all forms to ensure our sovereignty and continually bettering prosperity, forever!", he said with a significant emphasis in the word forever, giving an interruption. There were applauses, and people were still open, although a bit reluctant now, for he was not an average prince regent, he seemed different from every ruler they ever had before, he did not want to be served, it seemed, but to serve, it was a concept difficult to embrace for some, and a few between the most conservative crowd have decided to leave prematurely while the bishop's expression tried to disguise his obvious signs of worry.

Suddenly, before he could continue his speech, a haggard beggar managed to bypass the security and came to him, kneeling in plea:

"My liege, I beg of you! I am hungry and starving... give me food and shelter... as you promised"

Edward ordered the guards to back off, and simply touched his dirty shoulder and said in a pleasant command tone:

"Son of the people, raise and look at my eyes!"

The beggar limped and reluctantly raised at his side, facing Edward eyes directly with shame, when Edward said to him.

"You must feel no guilt or shame... for you were a victim of circumstances, a man which progress was dammed by barriers, barriers beyond your limited capabilities of surpassing. I shall not give you any food bar that you need of immediate, for a man must handle his own fate, but I shall give you a plot of land and the needed resources for you to begin a new life. A land which you shall sow, a land which you shall deservingly need, and land which shall have your home, where only you shall sow the benefits of your labor. Arise and stay with me, for my blood is as red as yours and is not blue blood, for there are only two things which separate us: circumstance and progress... for I lived in a land where all barriers to progress were lifted, and soon you shall witness, and all shall witness, a new Kell which shall arise and grow to what seemed to be only possible in dreams! Leave, son of the people, for now you shall have your land, your seeds and your ways to never again have to beg for your survival... and to all who are seeing this... I will do my best to ensure that in the next three months, there will be not a single children, adult or old man begging for food or money in the streets! All barriers to our progress as a land and as individuals shall now be lowered, for this time, history is at all of our hands and I will ask of each of you... to advise me for I cannot witness and presence your needs, From now on, I nominate every thinking man of Kell as a voluntary advisor! I shall provide you with the needed spaces and technology to allow your voice to resonate and be listened, to reach me no matter how far you are from my location, for I must hear your voice to serve you with progress, prosperity and a better future for you and all your sons! Every corner of Kell shall have public access computers for you to speak with me and in two years at most, every single citizen shall have computers to personally forward their voices in a network of wisdom! For we shall now decide together our fate, and not I, but we shall now govern and make the answers renewed for the questions. Look into yourselves, for we all need our own wisdoms to take the next step into the road to our future! As the Prince Regent of Kell, I declare and shall make from this day a decisive day in our land history!"

The public, seeing the beggar, who thanked Edward almost automatically, receiving a sack of seeds and being escorted to a car, which was accompanied by a cameraman on Edward request to film his departure towards the countryside to a fertile soil, like as promised, he would have his chance of being independent and free, to never again have to beg, and enchanted by the soothing, charismatic way that Edward spoke, had many of their initial doubts removed. However, the wealthy and remaining noblesse and former government high-ranking members left the event with fears in their mind about their privileges and status quo, and seeds of what could end as a future cabal against the new, apparently honest and selfless ruler and his associates. The bishop tried to compose himself for the next part of the ceremony, the crowning. Edward politely allowed him to speak further in the auditorium, and the Church behind them was a majestic building which he would pretend to give a worth to, for now. One of his comrades asked him to come, and when he approached him, he whispered:

"From the information we already managed to gather, the bishop is an honest man, I guess he is worried due to the ideological shock, but I really suggest you to have him as a friend and to talk openly with him to lift his fears. I think he is afraid we are disguised soviet commies or something like that. Also, keep your eyes opened, we noticed some of the elite leaving sooner than expected and... et tu, Brutus... if you know what I mean. But we'll keep an watch and kill any pig who attempts to stop the revolution. Also nice speech, but we must motivate the people to "decide together their fate" and "give their voice" further, but I think you adapted excellently the concept of direct democracy to their current values... and avoiding to use the words revolution or socialism was a great choice too"

Edward nodded to his comrade and smiled to him before following the bishop inside the Church, and politely asked for no cameras to accompany him. It was a quite impressive, marble-white building internally with a painted cupola and glassworks which were awe-inspiring to the eye while its wooden floor seemed to make pale reflections of both. He knew that was the best moment to speak openly to the bishop, and he said before the crowning ceremony, being attended only by his comrades rather than by the wealthy and noblesse who left the event:

"Bishop Saruzzi, I would like to have some words with you before the formalization."

The bishop, surprised, looked at him and asked, clearly disguising some worries from his facial expression in a less than perfect manner:

"Of course, Your Highness, what does your wise mind have to externalize in this sublime moment?"

Edward looked at the Bishop brown eyes, and said openly:

"Frankly, I believe you have some fears about my person or possibly my intentions, I would not feel offended at all, in fact I would be grateful to listen to your fears, no matter what they are"

The Bishop was surprised to hear something like that, for most rulers simply refused to acknowledge or even care about the reaction of those around them, embracing their absolute power as a shield, but he was not one of them, and Saruzzi knew that. He was probably on his sixties or seventies, a man who embraced a path of asceticism and faith, looking at a man who embraced idealism and revolutionary thought, and face to face they were when he spoke, being listened also to his comrades:

"Your title... your true title, with no offense intended Prince Regent Edward... but you are not a prince... no! Your behavior cannot be attributed to a prince... you are a 'Comrade', revolutionary and agitator of the people first, for I have noticed you are different from every ruler who have come through here before. You seek to be loved first, but most sought instead to be feared, which is not a bad choice, as you will see. The people are starting to love you... however, even if you have good intentions and are pure of heart on this affair, I fear your radicalism will only harbor strife, and with only these words you ushered, you have already made many enemies in Kell which shall seek. For many fear what I am sure of, I know you are not here to be a prince regent, I know what the flag you asked to be putted in the castle means... but, I plead you to not do it. It will only make things worse, despite on what you believe, and no matter it might have worked almost perfectly where you came from, the people of Kell are hardly ready for a Republic, much less for the leader-less democracy and money-less economy I know you endorse and which shall simply end as a disaster here. Do not go further, I ask you, not only because the people are not ready for the society you seek to create, but because these enemies you made are powerful and have contacts into further fiefdoms of Paloni, and they will not allow what you want, nor they will resist it through peaceful manners... and might bring even wars to our lands. Allow the Lord to tend to His flock sir, because He will know the right time for what you hope to achieve."

Edward knew that the Bishop was honest now, and his worries were indeed justified, but he replied nonetheless with a refusal to give up on what he has just began:

"Bishop Saruzzi, I will be honest about what I believe in. I am an agnostic, and I don't follow any religion, I don't know if a god exists or not because that is beyond science, but I don't believe there is a god watching us, and I hope you understand why, for I wouldn't like to mention certain things nor I am here to discuss faith. And I am sorry, but I will not give up now, I have spent my entire fortune and the savings of many of my colleagues to achieve this in an as peaceful manner as possible, but I know that such types of changes will always end with violent opposition, however Saruzzi, if the people supports me, they shall falter and be forced to leave, and I believe I can manage to show them the way to be free, for, like in the Bible, which I know and studied before, Jesus said this is not his kingdom. Where I came from, there are some faithful who interpret such phrase differently from how I believe you take it. They believe the only legitimate government is the spiritual kingdom of God and that all Earthly governments are manifestations of the Enemy. I have similar beliefs, but mine are more materialistic than spiritualist. I promise you Bishop, I'll do my best to avoid violence, but eventually it shall happen, and I cannot stop now what I have began. Also, once there is no more misery, even if people have died, should things continue as they are rather than changed, many more would die, starve and suffer through the time, I believe, and my friends reunited here also believe, that this is the best overall option for Kell. I hope you shall respect our decision, or at least tolerate it, for you are an honest man, and I appreciate it. Let me prove you your fears are wrong in the next months, Bishop Saruzzi... also, on another matter, I wouldn't consider unwelcome this ceremony. Like I said, I do not think God doesn't exist, I simply do not know whether He exists or not, and supposing he does, I believe that, different from other times this might have happened, he would now feel His named honored rather than blasphemed by tyrants and oppressors who came here before. Also, what I endorse is not exactly a money-less economy. I can explain it later, but now I believe the people are waiting for the last part of this event. And I don't like to make people wait."

Saruzzi simply nodded and said: "I hope your stubborn stance shall not bring you harm, may God protect you and... help you resist the temptations of power", he said as both went further to the end of the hall of that church to a small chapel beneath a solar roof. At this moment the broadcasters were allowed inside to show the live crowning of Edward as the Prince Regent. The Bishop took the crown, a plain gold circlet with no encrusted jewels like requested, when he was interrupted by Edward, who asked for a moment to say the last words before being formally recognized as a prince:

"This crown is more than the formalization of my shared regency, it is the golden circle of prosperity, symbolizing my promise to Kell and to the people that one day, a new golden cycle of continual prosperity will be at the reach of every person, every peasant, worker and individual, man, woman and children across Kell, by accepting this crown I will have it as a reminder of every word I said here today, which shall never, ever be forgotten. This is what it symbolizes, what I see as the future of the principality and what shall become reality, by the will of God and by the will of the people! I promise that neither of the words I spoke today shall be in vain, otherwise, with all honesty, I would not be deserving of this crown!"

The bishop said then, slowly moving the crown with his hands towards Edward's bald head: "The Lord shall listen to your words and remember your honesty and moral integrity, your highness. In the name of God and by the grace of God, I proclaim you Prince Regent of Kell, may your rule be prosperous and fruitful and may your words be fulfilled with the divine aid of the Lord."

A few cameras photographed the moment for posterity. A new prince would now have the responsibility beyond that of any who ruled before. For his responsibility was to resist the corrupting lure of power and to prepare more than three hundred millions for making of his own rule obsolete and replaced by the direct and decentralized rule of the people.

After a last return to the courtyard, with his crown in head, Edward received a last wave of applauses as the celebration was announced. He however, insisted that they had more important priorities than partying. And while the people commemorated with a party, he was busy deciding and planning on how to ensure to such people the best future, discussing with his friends how to create an effective provisional government, without running the risk of the seduction of power turning it into a permanent government.

His comrades established a quick, slightly ad-hoc political organization at the same day and formed relationships with the former political prisoners, however it was clear for those former prisoners they were not looking for a republic, but for something even beyond in its level of idealism, a pure, direct democracy. The process of putting certain types to justice was planned to be delayed for a while, but eventually hundreds of torturers, social parasites of the worker class and corrupts would meet their ultimate fate in the hands of a partly disguised revolutionary government, the moment for the slaughter would come in the next two or three weeks, and Edward was sure, right in his first day of government, that if he did not kill them, they would eventually kill him. It should however be a surprise, to take them off guard... for he would not be only loved... for he was already loved by the people, soon he would be feared by their former oppressors. But for now, the transitional government would be moderate, investing heavily in education and planning to sell superfluous government properties or turn them into schools, creches or hospitals among other public services buildings, while farmlands would be given to the needy to eventually eradicate, at least the existence of people below the poverty line in Kell, and in the future, eradicate poverty altogether. Most of the former government high hierarchy was "dismissed" in this first day for being considered untrustworthy, a reason not explicitly announced or explained, and a reform over the police forces would seek in the next months to identify those who were deserving of death, namely former torturers and murderers who claimed to "to serve and protect", although it was in a certain way truthful if it was added "the government" to the end of such phrase. But now the police was to serve and protect not the government, but the people, and in a decade the police would also become obsolete, replaced by the cheaper and more effective voluntary watch of people. Major educational, economic, welfare and political changes of almost revolutionary status due to their radicalism would be on the way and the goal was to make their provisional government be needed only for the first year in Kell, before the full transition into an Electronic Direct Democracy organized through communes with a fully voluntary social order, preserving as much from current Kell culture as possible in it. However, the former establishment remaints would not give up from their previous privileges so easily, and although no blood was yet shed in this first day of rule, such uneasy peace wouldn't last for much time. For, no matter how hard it is attempted to, revolution and war are inseparable.

After the meeting between them and initial planning was finished, they went to meet the people in their festivities, which have not yet ended. It would be a long night of celebration, and Edward was personally going there, although without his crown. His comrades organized a security setup to prevent problems, but they were more afraid of what could happen in the next weeks or months rather than on what could happen in such evening during that party.

Clicking in precision the small blade shot out of the pommel and cut into the driver’s neck, easily cutting the spinning and ending his life. There was no pity from the murderer as he, with arthritic bones hauled himself out of the car. It was by no means his first murder, and an insignificant driver hardly added to his sins, especially one so recently taking orders from Vauhn, it was hardly a crime he assured himself as he went through the drivers pockets and started picking out the loose change and paper money, eventually even taking the ID and wedding ring.

As he was pulling out of the driver’s seat his hand brushed the steering wheel and a cold shiver went through the man’s spine. It was a nice car. All the previous government had had were nice cars, Jaguars, Aston Martins, Renault touring cars all of them imported and parked in neat little stalls behind the castle. His training told him ditch the car, get to the countryside and steal a different car, but his shaking hands told him otherwise. With one foot he pushed the former driver into the space between the seats and wiped the seat with the man’s hat. Both his hands wrapped around the wheel and for a moment just held it, before with expert grace he performed a three point turn and began roaring down the road and eighty miles an hour.

“Got him sir,” a small cell phone had been pulled from his pocket and flipped open, the number it seemed did not need dialing. “It’s in his left pocket, I believe he’s right handed so we should have at least eight hours, if the party detains him. And if I’m right he’s the sort of man who only has one suit. “ The man laughed as he flipped the phone away, and rounded a bend at break neck speed, it was good to be alive. From beggar to millionaire in a few minutes, Metternich was right; ideals were old fashioned, there was a new wave of the future.

“Damn that man!” Metternich’s arrant hand smashed a painting to the floor and he kicked at it viciously with his riding boots. “Damn him!”

One of the Councilors who had been keeping their distance finally ran to his side and caught his hand before it crippled itself against a bust of the Emperor, “Metternich! Calm down, he’s easily fooled apparently.”

“As easily fooled as you!” His foot lashed out and caught the man on the shin hobbling him immediately, “you let a socialist into the country! Will they stop at liberalization no, for though they claim we are the machine, the endless means of production, and assassin of public joy, which system takes a man’s joy before the other?” The question was aimed at no one and Metternich had to be physically restrained from rushing out the door, by his previous audience. “Did you listen to his conversation with,” the man paused and fumed as he glared at a scrap of paper, “Felicia at around four in the morning, socialized medicine, democratic communes, people’s committees, reactionary justice! The crimes go on Ja…” he paused remembering the times, remembering how things had changed, “Councilor.”

“Yes, yes and the righteous hand of the Emperor shall strike him down I’m sure.” One of the Councilors added gently as an informal committee of the Regency Council formed around Metternich. “Someone…put a cloth over that painting, Boot will never even notice.” The interim government was still in Danzour, in one of the outlying palaces, as their personal effects were being moved and shipped to the new capital of the government in exile, a small island they had purchased, and intended to inhabit with about eight hundred choice followers.

“We could have him killed, idealists are always easy to take down, we still have a commando squad of the Imperial Army left, thy could be in and out before morning.”

“Provided they have their things checked at customs and they have their passports stamped, we have no where to launch the operation from, and no logistics to do it with. If we have the ‘Army’ do anything, they have to pay for their own bus fare.”

“Point taken,” the Council rounded a corner and saw one of the household servants of, well Boot now, polishing doorknobs, and generally looking efficient, “we could tip the Republican Army off, if they see a potential ally in Kell, they’ll send a representative, we send ours get some incriminating evidence of fraternization with the enemy, and let the rest of the continent sort it out?”

“Depends to much on circumstance, perhaps matters will sort themselves out, put a letter through to Major Crapsowwen however, I want that man watched, and his movements tagged, upload everything by video link to, what are we calling the new capital?”

“Haven’t decided yet.”

“See that’s it’s done, I,” Metternich straightened his jacket, “have a party to go to. Boot has been most kind in that respect. And someone put a message through to Waldenburg, we’re ready for our cruiser.”

“Very well, enjoy your party.” The Council disbanded stiffly walking in different directions, minds collectively ablaze, money it turned out could do anything, and they found now they had quite a good deal of it.

We are most pleased to hear of your application and of the noble ties already associated with your house, therefore we have no hesitation in granting the titles and honors of the duchy to you immediately.

OOC The civil war has been an armed conflict fought between Monarchist and Republican factions with a majority of the fighting taking place in Wittenschau, as per it’s labeled damage. It has been a fairly low grade civil war, that none the less has lasted for ten months and separated the country by ideals and families. Under pressure of from the Regency Council who wished to keep the country fairly intact the Emperor abdicated to replaced by local strong men within a feudal system which provides more centralizied protection to communities and allows for the return of the emperor some day, albeit in a hugely reduced role. The Imperial Army has deserted and only the police and a few old units stand in the way of the RA (Republican Army) rolling over the country. The RA is nominally commanded by General Cressona, a former Imperial officer who, like his army grew dissatisfied with Imperial rule, and seceded with approx. 1.5 billion people to form his own country the Republic of Paloni now opposite the feudal fiefs. A general ceasefire is in effect agreed upon by Cressona, although skirmishing still takes place, and the ceasefire is bound to expire very soon.

As a rule of thumb Paloni is Christian with a majority being catholic. Agnosticism is the second largest group, and most foreign religions never caught on.

The Lingua Franca is English of course (Of all fiefs, answering Orbath’s question) followed by German. Culturally it is mostly up to you, other than the old worldly feel. As for the mines that too is your choice.


Edit OOC I realize that TSS, and it was indeed the beggar, and yes he was on live television, but as you say the speech was self evident and the listening device is meant to hint that the Council still has a few supporters and a small amount of power. How long it lasts or if it has any ranging effect on people is of course up to you. As for the plausibility of doing it, the beggars back would be to the cameras, and Vaughn jacket pocket would be hanging open if his arm was extended to touch the man's shoulders. It's seems all very plausible, although it's best to clear these up quickly I suppose. Very well written posts by the way.

2nd Edit Empror Pudu has kindly offered to make a map for the region. But where you are on the list (in respect to those surrounding you) are your main neighbors all this was intended to be freeform, so if you'd like to border say Ilum, then perhaps a little spiek of land could be given to you. I did not put to much thought into position, as I had no program to make the map, but we shall have one shortly with any luck.

Robertson had been taken to the city's former city hall. The building was a large, imposing marble building, a simple of wealth and power no doubt. The building soon became surrounded by soldiers who erected various defenses. It was deemed unlikely that the populace would revolt, especially this early in the game but the government took no chances.

Robertson sat behind a large oak desk in a medium sized office just off of a massive chamber. He had his choice of offices but he chose this one, partly for the balcony that overlooked the square and partly because he hadn't become used to being treated better than everyone else, like some sort of god.

An aid entered, holding a small folder and smiling.

''Good news,'' Robertson inquired.

Robertson smiled, pulling out a cigar, lighting it and peering through the large glass doors which lead to the square below. He knew the second faze of the transition was occurring.

More C-130 aircraft, as well as other civilian aircraft would be touching down, cargo holds loaded with both military engineers and contracted civilian workers. Other C-130s would bring doctors and medical supplies while still more would bring food.

Across the County, field hospitals and ''aid camps'' were set up, allowing those sick, injured or hungry to receive the treatment that was needed. Engineers repaired roads, bridges, railways, ports and anything else that required fixing. Most of it was quick work, the area was behind by many years.

OOC: I havn't finished the map yet (I just realized everything I did was saved jpg, which is bad for maps...), but Kell currently borders Wittenschau, both the Throppes, and Hanslow, with a prominent coastline as well. Before I post the map up to be all public-like, I'm going to clear it with Paloni though.

The Grand Duchy of Hanslow was relatively unknown amongst the ranks of Ixanian citizens until recently, when the purchase of the Grand Duchy made headlines all over the Empire. Within several weeks, a group of Ixanian soldiers were sent to the Grand Duchy to assist in defense and Ixanian businessmen were planning to expand and invest in Hanslow. Reforms were implemented to transform Hanslow into an absolute monarchy; but the citizens were allowed to gain representation in Ixania's House of Representatives by electing one of their own to the ranks of members. All across the Grand Duchy, Ixanian influence was spreading like wildfire. Alexander Askiates, an aristocrat who had studied political science in university, was chosen to represent the Empress and manage affairs. At 6'0, the handsome aristocrat knew the duty he had been given and within days of his appointment he began implementing projects aimed at making the quality of life more better for every man, woman and child. Students of the Grand Duchy could apply for scholarships that would allow them to learn in Ixania and vice versa. Markets could be seen exchanging goods regularly and the Empress purchased a house for herself in the countryside.

If there was anything that needed to be fixed or improved, the Askiates Administration made sure that they would be. All over the Grand Duchy, roads and communications networks were being improved and militia groups were being trained to help protect Hanslow if there was ever an attack. Alexander and his ministers knew that there was work to be done...but they were all determined to make Hanslow the best it could be.

So far, the people had taken well to their new leadership. here hadn't been any cases of rioting, rebelling or even bad talk about the new government. This was likely because the people were being provided with everything they needed. Infrastructure had rapidly been restored.

One key element of the whole operation was the creation of the County's own government services, everything from soldier to garbage man. A massive recruiting drive was launched, offering jobs and benefits and the people got on board. Many were happy to be provided with a job, especially one which paid much more than anything made before. On top of that, it provided a sense of nationalism, the people were doing something for their nation, for each other.

Among all the jobs to be filled were that of the police and military forces. Former police officers and military personel were called upon. These people would become the backbone of the new military police forces. Even those that were only lowly privates underwent rapid training programs and they came out as officers, their pay reflecting it and making it an attractive option. Those that did not have prior service received a longer training program, forming them into proper soldiers. Both the military and police were equipped with weapons and vehicles bought from Yanitaria. The advantage was that they were relatively easy to operate, so training a soldier with them was rather easy.

The next stage was the creation of industries, and to bring the former industries up to par. The County was quite behind and it was time to shape them. Orbathian logging companies brought equipment and men and trained the Throps how to use them. Orbathian farmers, though few, also brought equipment and men and showed the Throps how to farm. In addition to that, major Orbathian corporations, such as Saudar Automotives constructed plants. These plants offered education, jobs and benefits. Not only could they now provide cars for the County, but also those around it. Several foreign corporations also move din, providing what the Orbathian corporations did. In a short time, The Noble County of Throppe surpassed what anyone could have ever thought.

It is most gratifying to see your request for dominion and it is of course granted, your highness. As per your questions Ilum is not landlocked (Again I have no map, you may not be near the coastline in future but if you want to make a river go right ahead.) There has been some contentions about the feudal titles, some have also wished to remove them and we shall give you the same answer, you may, it is your right, however those who support your monarchy, at the start have nothing to respect but the title and the tradition you uphold. I doubt in this instance if it shall lead to open revolt but it would most certainly lose you some support. Considering that you specified to remove only that portion of the title the more devout populace may take it as a very intended slap to the face. It is however entirely your affair.

The Margravate of Ilum, we would like to say has not always been in the state it is now, unfortunately it has always been mismanaged. It has remained mostly unaffected by the revolution, as it was simply not worth it. It is, I am sad to say rife with poverty, disease, and crime, it's citizens determined to protect themselves, and after that there is no responsibility. We wish you luck there, we wish you good governance, and above all greater ability than the Council or Emperor in governing this patch of land.

The Prince had arrived the previous day and was making his way to the small town of Alßen in the western part of the Margravate where he would be meeting the former ministers of Ilum.

As his vehicle and it’s escourts passed by he looked to see his new domain. Verdant fields, mountains off in the distance, and green forests. It had not seen much of the touch of industrialization. His car hit a pothole and the Prince bounced towards the roof. Now the roads need fixing too, he thought this would take some work.

The town came into view, it was across a small river and the Prince’s Renault drove across the old stone bridge

Desideratus Potho had long been the Emperor’s minister of Ilum he knew it’s people and it’s feel. He was an older gentleman of around sixty, his silver hair was balding, and on his face he wore a pair of glasses. He could remember back to the days when things had been better without all this chaos and collapses. He was one of the few too, the life expectancy in Ilum had dropped over the last ten years.

As if he hadn’t had enough to worry about, the Emperor had resigned and now the regents were auctioning off the nation. The capital, Wiremburg had become too dangerous for him after that. So he moved what remained of the government of the Margravate to the west, were things were more peaceful. He had called the new purchaser of the Margravate, this Prince Nicolas to where the he and the council were temporarily residing, namely Alßen.

An Aid announced to him that the Prince and his escourt vehicles arrived in the city. Minister Potho walked out of the town hall to greet him.

The Prince walked out of his car into the town square where banners of West Ponente and the Ponenté fluttered in the breeze amid the cheers of the townsfolk. In front of him was a set of large stone steps where an old official looking man and others like him stood, waiting for him. He walked up the steps slowly and reached the top. The official bowed and said to him “Your Highness, I spoke to you earlier, my name is Desideratus Potho, Minister of the Margravate of Ilum, let me be the first one to welcome your to your new domain.

The Prince said “Thank you, Minister.” The Council of Ministers and their new Marquis walked into the Alßen Town Hall together.

Ludwig tried to shield his head as the Courtemanche automobile he sat in rolled over a rough dirt road, a short distance away from the capital of the Principality. While Von Zinzendorf was complaining about the ride comfort of his car, he praised it at the same time. He realised that the persons behind him were in much more uncomfortable VLT's and Monteluci's. At least, those cars were comfortable on the average Van Luxemburger road, not these dirt roads.

The Courtemanche he sat in had his hydropneumatic suspension raised high up, but it still couldn't cope with the bumps and holes in the dirt road. It was not an official road, but merely a path leading to a deserted farmhouse in the area. Not that the official roads were better, though; the only difference was that they had been asphalted over. But for the rest, he quite appreciated his new land, with it's lush vegetation, mountain ranges and wide, open plains. It was a land of opportunities, with the population still largely alive and the infrastructure, as far as you could call it that way, still intact.

This would be the personal playground of the Van Luxemburger automobile industry. Not in the way of population and industry, but in the way of land and infrastructure. Several important factories would pop up around the principality, and they would test their cars under the circumstances in Loth. Meanwhile, they had hired the Graf von Zinzendorf, Ludwig, to control and maintain the principality as prince, and organise democratic elections. However, they had also instructed him to always stay in favour of the companies, or face the loss of his job. They, the automobile companies, would still largely fund the economy, so Loth probably won't even think about ditching the automobile industry just yet. Still, you never knew.

As the small convoy halted outside the farmhouse, all passengers exited their vehicles, each and every one of them complaining about the road quality. They were used to the Van Luxemburger roads, rated among the best in the world, and those were no match for the infrastructure in Loth.

'Damnit, That's another thing we'll need to change here. The roads, they're horrible. Anyways, Ludwig, welcome to your palace-to-be. This is what we've bought from a farmer in the area. It includes 100 hectares of woods, agricultural land, vineyards, lakes, etcetera. This house will be thorougly renovated to your likings in the coming months, and will serve as the center of the Principality' Kristin Becker spoke, leaning on her VLT L7.

Alfredo Monteluci then shook hands with Ludwig, congratulating him on his new house.
'Welcome home, Ludwig. They produce some excellent wines here, from what I hear. Make sure to send me some samples when it's ready.'

'Yes, yes, thanks all. I'll be sure to let you know about the wine quality here. I have already drawn up some plans for the house and gave them to a local contractor. But we must move on with our tour around the principality, you are all busy people and we don't have a lot of time.'

As he said that, he got into his Courtemanche again and drove off, heading the convoy of executive vehicles down the dirt road again. He had taken little time to look at the farmhouse, but he was sure he would see it a lot more in the coming years.

The next few days, they travelled through Loth, visiting small towns and villages, large cities and agricultural properties. They also made plans for the new infrastructure and finalised agreements on the positioning of various automobile plants and test centres. Meanwhile, Ludwig was busy organising the local politics, and had announced elections a few weeks later.

Days after the delegation from Van Luxemburg had left, another arrived, but this time with persons who would stay in Loth. They were ex-military and ex-police, and had been drafted back into service by Von Zinzendorf. Their task was to rebuild the police and defense forces according to Van Luxemburger standards, but this time funded by private assets, while still functioning as the official defence force of Loth. With the delegation, Van Luxemburger civil contractors had also arrived, to supervise the construction of a new road network. While Loth was a somewhat underdeveloped area, it would be rapidly developed in the coming years.

The Council of Ministers had been talking to the Prince for quite some time now. They were making him more familiar with their lands and the peoples of the Margravate. He was learning a lot from them, and intrigued by what he heard.

The Margravate was rather anarchic and had been for the past 20 or more years, this had not been helped by the recent collapse of the Empire. It was one of the most Catholic of the former territories of the Empire and was largely rural. The were still discussing the state of things when a man came rushing in, he was a middle aged man named Güttenwald and came in before the council. “Wiremburg is on fire!”

The city had caught fire during the rioting that had occurred over the past couple of days. It was unknown where and how it exactly started but it rapidly spiraled out of control and soon almost the whole capital was ablaze. So far, the man reported, Wiremburg Castle and Cathedral had been spared from the blaze as well as most of the government district.

“Something must be done!” yelled Potho

The Council was in an uproar, and the Prince spoke out over the ruckus

“Minister Potho.” He said in a load voice

Potho looked to him

“How is Wiremburg’s water system set up?

“It’s almost nonexistent, much of it is still the wooden piping from the earlier part of last century, why?”

“A plan I have.” He said simply

“Summon every able bodied man from the town, and send out messengers to the towns from ever town between here and Ennsbrück to meet in Baßenach. Have them bring hoses and buckets and any other vessels to carry water.” He said to one of the aides in the room

“Yes, your highness.” And he was off

“I am going to the capital to establish order in the Margravate. I shall return after the business is settled.”

“I am going with you.” said Potho

“Your Majesty this is insane! A plan of this magnitude will never work in a place like Ilum. I would bet my job on it.”

The Prince looked at him for a second

“Very well, then. You’re fired.” He said simply and walked out into Alßen Town Square

That day, they all started arriving en masse. Guests from other Free Cities, representatives from the Regency Council and other fiefs, refugees, Vantanians, corporate friends, even a few rivals and rebels made it past security to spy. It had started out simply enough, with the guests all being treated to a banquet of a breakfast, each tailored to their own cuisines. Then, after a brief welcoming speech by Tucker, they were turned loose into the city to enjoy the festivities until dinner and the dance.

There, they marvelled at the sites they saw. Magnificent waterfalls and rivers where ever you went, parks as numerous as workplaces, and many other sites of beauty and recreation. In the short time in which the Corporation had owned the city, two amusement parks had been created from nothing. Other guests enjoyed the majorly enhanced market, where they could purchase near anything their heart desired, exotic, local, Vantanian, artisan, anything. Here in the market, the Danzourians tried as hard as possible to show off, with dancing, juggling, singing, instruments, magic tricks, epic poems, and more being commonplace.

Finally, round noon, the city became nigh deserted, as all came into the overhauled Arena. Here, a variety of games were seen, including ancient spectacles like gladitorial combat, foot races, chariot races, javeling and discus throwing, wrestling, jousting, archery, and sailing. In addition, there were more modern games held in this mighty arena, basketball, baseball, cricket, cycling, tennis, badminton, shooting, football, rugby, and football. There was much passion, and the games lasted for much of the day. Sometime around eight o'clock the guests were called back to the gleaming palace for the banquet.

Ah!, the banquet. Foods of all kinds, the finest breads, soups, wines, meats, fruits, vegetables, everything was laid out for their enjoyment. Sweet aromas covered the entirety of the palace for many days after, and the sheer amount and taste of the dinner was mouthwatering. Finally, when it seemed that the guests could eat no more, the food was taken off the table. In its stead, cakes, pies, chocolates, sweets, and other delicacies were brought out for consumption. The guests dipped in passionately, but soon pulled out as their stomachs seemed at the bursting point.

The final joy came with the dance, which lasted long into the night. The finest Vantanian and Danzourian musicians played, be it their own original songs, or other works by classical composers. The majesty of the muse filled the palace, where the servants took a much deserved break to enjoy themselves as well. Great patriotic pieces, booming triumphant odes, and deep soulful peices were all played, and by the time the dance was complete every dancer was fitter for it.

The next morn, the days festivities were rapidly cleaned up before the guests could see them. The final act of generosity was the great carriages that escorted the guests in a slow, majestic procession to the fief's edge, pausing briefly to let them enjoy the gleaming citadel, and the green pastures stretching past the city walls to the mountains. With a final bottle of wine and fruit basket, the guests were left to leave by their own accord, with a higher opinion of the White Citadel, Free City of Danzour.

When Lord-Dutchess Andrea Norheim, of the United Royal Provinces, arrived to the newest colony of the kingdom, she realized what a mess it was. Drein, the capitol, was in ruins, and reports indicated that the other towns were much the same.

Years of civil war and strife had destroyed the once proud Dutchy. As recently as 1950, the Dutchy was on the technological edge, with industries capable of supporting itself and more. And even now, the one city that had managed to survive almost unscathed, Gartenborough, was one of the more advanced cities in the region, and even had a bustling industry producing computers and machine parts.

Everywhere else, though, the citizens of the colony eked out a living farming commercial crops, or working in mines in horrible conditions digging for rutile and bauxite ores, or risking life and limb cutting down trees in the western portion of the colony.

Starvation was fairly common, with one in ten families not being able to afford the food they needed, and local farmers unable to commercially support crops that might feed the nation.

Anarchist rebels still terrorized towns near the border of Ilum, and catholic vigilantes roamed The Great Rural Expanse, the area of the country most heavily populated by farms and small towns, with impunity.

Normally a single division of Yanitarian Foreign Legionnaires would be assigned to a colony, but at the request of Lord-Dutchess Norheim, King Norheim sent the First Yanitarian Foreign Legionnaire Army Group (1st YFLAG). 2 Armies of Foreign Legion troops, totaling 120,000 men, were immediately dispatched to the capitol, and to the newly renamed New Point Harbour. From there they organized the People's Police Force, a standing police force that would then administrate the region.

It was six whole weeks before the first classes of policemen were finished training, and instructors could adequately cover the classes. From New Point Harbour, and Drein, the Yanitarian Foreign Legions moved on, going from town to town, arresting any dangerous individuals, and at points retaking entire towns from rebels.

It was in the town of Oppland where the largest of such battles took place. When the first vehicles, SLT-31 Eques, came along that suspicions were first aroused. The scouting party reported several bodies floating down the river that followed the road they were traveling.

Then, as they entered the town, an anti-tank mine detonated under the lead vehicle. However, thanks to the mine protected chasis of the Eques, they soldiers inside were almost unharmed, except for the driver who had a concussion. As the vehicle was evacuated, and the alert went out, insurgent forces wielding RPG-7s and AK-74s fired upon the damaged vehicle and the remaining soldiers.

The soldiers from the first vehicle had no choice but to fire back using their AY-143Bs, while the machine guns from the the other vehicles opened up, spewing 14.5mm rounds at the insurgents on the roofs and in the windows.

An RPG-7 immediately hit the crippled SLT-31, wounding the driver heavily as he struggled to leave the vehicle. His squad mates grabbed him, and brought him to the second vehicle. It was a scouting party, so the Eques were only half full.

One near miss from an RPG later, and the scouts were tearing out of town. It wasn't until an hour later that LT-108 "Interpol" tanks were airdropped south and west of the town, while supporting infantry parachuted to the south and east that the real battle started. Sumerian designed MCA-7 "Timber Wolf" MBTs and mechanized infantry in IFV-91 "Renard" infantry fighting vehicles rolled in from the north, and aided the Yanitarian forces as they took the town.

At first, the insurgents blew the bridges on the eastern side of the river, hoping to stoped the light tanks from crossing, however the amphibious LT-108s simply swam across and proceeded with the attack. The fighting, while intense, was largely characterized by insurgents falling back as the tanks and infantry slowly took ground, and pushed them towards the center. Finally, when pushed as far as they would go, their positions were easily called into artillery batteries. HMAV-20Js and AV-38s provided heavy fire, and made the streets inaccessible as AV-40 "Heavy Seven"artillery started taking down buildings one at a time.

The victory against the anarchists was widely used throughout the new colony as propaganda, and Lord-Dutchess Norheim personally awarded the soldiers with Colonial Heroism Ribbons (despite the widely regarded notion of military observers and soldiers that the insurgents were only a small challenge).

After securing and organizing the police forces of the towns, sights were set on the vigilanties. For this, the Peoples Police Force was called upon to act. With help from the Legion, they started observing the smaller towns and tracking the movements of the catholic militias.

Only a short week later, a major sting was planned. On that night, the Peoples Police Force apprehended 3,000 men and women who had been roaming the farmland with heavy weapons. The next few nights brought in another 1,500 catholics who, for the most part, unabashedly admitted to being vigilantes, and killing non-catholics in order to preserve their cultural heritage.

Given the lack of funds available, it was decided that those who confessed before a trial to murder, and did not apologize would be sentenced to death, and those who did apologize would only be imprisoned. Of the 3,200 people who admitted, 2,500 were put to death. The remaining who refused to confess were all tried, and eventually found guilty due to overwhelming evidence, and also sentenced to death.

On March 20th, 2008, the convicted were lined up in a field, hands bound, and legionnaires machine gunned the nearly 3,800 murderers. Their bodies were then thrown into pre-dug mass graves, and buried.

On that day, King Norheim sent an official "slap on the wrist" to Lord-Dutchess Norheim, but recognized that those people were rebels, and murderers.

With it's dirty past swept under the rug, for the most part, Wittenshcau could begin rebuilding. The local populace was immediately conscripted to help rebuild their community, mainly public schools and hospitals, but also civic buildings, and homes. Farmers were immediately informed by royal decree that this would be the last year that commercial farming would take place, and that their farms would be collectivised, and their new crops would have to be drawn from a list of staple foods. Grain from Yanitaria was shipped in to augment the food supply for the year, at the cost of the Yanitarian Taxpayer, and several charities.

The mines were socialized, and shut down, pending inquiries into their safety. The lumber industry was also given a set of strict rules and regulations to follow, lest they be shut down or socialized for creating a dangerous work environment.

Meanwhile, the United Yanitarian Aerospace Investment Firm bought out all of the bauxite and rutile mines, and all of the ore available, and began constructing major facilities for the manufacture of aircraft, most notably, the Da-34 "Constellation" strategic bomber.

Outside of Yanitaria, this would be the UYAIF's largest investment in manufacturing facilities, and the cheap labour would definitely drive the costs of the already expensive bomber down.

In the southern part of the country, the UYAIF urged refining companies to build ore refinement facilities to cheaply produce titanium and aluminum from the ores taken from the nearby mining facilities.

And as their final contribution, UYAIF invested a sizable amount of money into building an international airport in the city of Drein, which would be made An-225 capable.

After only a few months of Yanitarian colonization, things finally seemed to be looking up for Wittenshcau...

In a mere week, the Shansekian 2nd Army had moved in, securing the borders and ensuring the citizens were safe. The Naval Battlegroup Osore arrived as well to ensure the steady stream of aid, immigrants, and other such things via the sea was kept safe. Occasional rebel attacks occurred, but they were fended off with minimum casualties. Rebel resistance here was significantly weaker due in part to the citizen's loyalty and the rebels lack of attention to the small fief. Thanks to this, the Shansekian Blue Cross Association was able to mobilize within a day of the full arrival of the 2nd Army, passing out bread, water, setting up field hospitals, and giving out vaccines.

As it did so, the Shansekian Blue Cross started its job-training process. People were recruited to learn how to become nurses, policemen, etc., anything that an ordinary person could do. They started repairing cottages and making sure the utilities were working. For the first time in months, Littleburgites had stable, ever-flowing electricity provided by solar panels and wind turbines while nuclear plants would be built, and running tap water - hot and cold.

Meanwhile, Shansekia Corp.'s inspectors swept through the country. Stopping in Abslow, Rikal, Telmar, Relnar, and other cities and towns, they checked the many dilapidated factories and made notes on check lists. Soon, engineers, work crews, and materials would arrive to ensure all factories were fully functional. This way, minimal construction of new factories would be required, as well as providing more jobs to the people of Littlenburg, who had been working on manufacturing and heavy industry for generations. As they finished inspecting the factories, the inspectors would scout out Littlenburg's two harbors, Abslow and Littlenburg-by-the-Sea, to confirm that they would hold up to the large amount of shipping. Soon, shipping would not be in the form of material aid, but of raw materials shipped in and manufactured goods shipped out.

The Free City of Danzour

In the short period of six months from the festival, the ball, the wondrous celebration, the city of Danzour looked only vaguely recognizable. The citizens had all been put to work, and when they were not enough, more workers were also brought in from other countries. The changes were, as listed by the Chronicler of the effort:

-The paving of roads with a small layer of marble
-The abolishment of automobiles
-The construction of a large granite wall around the city
-The abolishment of Paloni-specific art, except in museums
-The reconstruction of residential quarters
-The maintenance of the parks, gardens, etc.
-The major revampment of the sewage systme

And so on, and so forth.

Now, where once the city was beautiful, now it was spectacularily glamorous. The palace walls were adorned with paintings, of fabulous sunsets, majestic mountains, sapphiric seas, heroes of old, legends, and more. Everywhere in the city, the roads looked as if made entirely of marble, and no longer did eyesore automobiles park and pollute everywhere. In their stead, an ultra high technolongy monorail was set up, spiriting people to and fro efficiently. For shorter distances, most were content to either walk, run, bicycle, or get on a taxi-carriage. The houses were all of a beige color, with red shingles, and a courtyard in the center of the house. The courtyards all had a draping of grapevines, followed by an olive tree, and then their own cusomizations. The flag (http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/391/buysellrj6.png) of the Buy & Sell Corporation (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=12844762) hung over every house, and a giant version of the flag flew over the Palace.

All of this was lavish, true. But, this was, afterall, the capital city of the Buy & Sell Corporation. As such, it had to be the most beautiful they could make it. Soon, tourists from around the world saw advertisements of Danzour in print, internet, and television. As tourist season rolled in, millions flew to Danzour Airport at the edge of the fief, and rode the rail in to the railstation at the outskirts of the city, the fabulous city. Although the improvements cost money, the city would pay itself off many times, if the first season was any indication.

But what of the criminals, the dissentors, the insane, the retarded, the beggars, the insurgents, the rebels? All were found by the Secret Police, and either died fighting, died for a horrible crime, or were exiled to a place called Hades. But what was Hades, and where was it? Some said that it was a land near the South Pole, where the prisoners worked to build a fortress-city for the Buy & Sell Corporation; this was noted by Tucker and he began having prisoners from other colonies build this. Others said Hades was a fantastic, lush land free from Buy & Sell dominion; they often got to see Hades first-hand.

Hades, as listed in the Chroniclers note of sewage, was a large underground cavern, accessible only by navigating a warren of sewage rivers, and passing several checkpoints. This cavern, safely above the sewage water, was the industrial heart of Danzour; it was in this cave that factory complexes were built far from the eyes of the citizens and tourists. Once factories were finished, the prisoners shifted into two jobs: the quarrymen and the factory workers. With no freedoms, they labored long and hard every day, their only pay a few pieces of bread a day. It was a miserable existance, slavery to the Corporation at its height. Some tried fighting back, but they were pitifully unorganized, unarmed, weak and tired from long days of labor and short nights.

And the farmers on the fields outside Danzour thought they had it hard.

Littlenburg looked far different from what was there before the Shansekians came. Glittering office buildings and apartments replaced old cottages and green parks substituted dirt squares. Factories littered the center of the cities, taking in raw material and pumping out goods which were shipped back to Shansekia. Tourists and immigrants poured into the newly built Abslow International Airport, promised a relaxing vacation on the newly cleaned beaches and beautiful hikes up the mountains. Littlenburg was seen as an untouched land, clean of industrialization and where mother nature still held considerable rule. Farms surrounded cities in giant circles larger than the cities themselves, providing cheaper food for the masses. Automobiles and subways replaced walking barefoot as the means of transportation.

Nevertheless, Littlenburgites and colonialists were shocked to wake up in their plush beds, donated by the Shansekian Blue Cross Association, and find notices on bulletin boards dotting the cities and the Littlenburg website that said:

To all who live in the Colony of Littlenburg:

Congratulations! It has been determined by Shansekian Parliament that Littlenburg is sufficiently developed to no longer require aid. Having atained the minimum population of 2 million and an HDI of .825, as dictated by the Littlenburg Colonial Charter, the Colony Littlenburg has become the Autonomous Republic of Littlenburg! While you will still share your military with Shansekia and be part of the Federation, which means 10 seats in parliament, you are now free to elect your own government! More details can be found on the government website, or you can ask your local Shansekian Government Outpost.

As word spread of the notice, cheers rang up through the colony. The next day, a crowd of citizens cheered as a surge of canidates announced their run for Littlenburg's senate or Shansekian Parliament. After months of work, they had brought Littlenburg near independence and glory. Finally, it was on par with the world.

That's cool, it's worth waiting in my opinion.

Free City of Danzour

The Free City was, in the two years since Tucker took it, radically changed. The city was still beautiful, and if anything it had been made even more beautiful. What was different was the composition and government.

Criminals, rebels, dissentors, madmen, beggars, insurgents, terrorists, retards, and spies had been exiled to Hades since the beginning, but things were getting worse. Now, with the secret construction of Hades Two and Three, more enemies of the State were sent in, the Communists, the Socialists, the blind, the deaf, the obese, the Liberals, the elderly, the chronically diseased, the homosexuals, the bisexuals, the sexual deviants, and more were all sent to these three complexes. Here, they labored endlessly, paying the cost of the lavish city above over and over again. What's worse, they were forced to breed, to provide more slaves for the workforce.

Where once the Danzourians could have expected relatively good rights and government, now there was no longer any. Loyalty to Tucker was demanded in the full, and portraits of him adorned every room of every level of every building. Statues of him in all his glory could be seen everywhere, and desecrating them in any way was punishable by exile. Meanwhile, when Tucker selected a government of constitutional monarchy, the people were hopeful. Alas, it was not to happen; only local administrators of the Buy & Sell Corporation who proved themselves local to Tucker where selected to serve in the very oligarchic Council of Danzour. And even here they were met with more disappointment, as the Council only ran the day to day business of the city and made the people aware of Tucker's new laws. In the end, Tucker himself was the sole executive, legislative, and judiciary of Danzour.

The only place Tucker didn't have such a small hierarchy was the military/Secret Police, a small elite force that implemented Tucker's will, quietly spirited away rebellion, and defended the borders of the fief against the wild lands controlled by the rebels.
