Military to Upgrade Existing Tanks and Planes

Yanitaria City - Yanitaria announced it's intent today to purchase almost 100,000 Nakíl 1A3 Main Battle Tanks, while upgrading the existing stock of Nakíl 1A1+ (a total of 20,000, bought from The People's Freedom, for a total of $80 billion) to the Nakíl 1A3HA.

This large purchase was revealed to be worth more than one trillion dollars, or about 1/9th of the current Yanitarian budget. An upgrade of the existing LT-108 "Interpol", manufactured by Yanitarian Arms, is also planned.

Furthermore, after receiving no response from the ADEN network, the Yanitarian government has decided to use it's existing aerospace corporations to design a whole new line of aircraft to replace the venerable old Soviet aircraft currently in service. Airplanes such as the Tu-95, which has been in service since the 50's, will be replaced by jet powered planes, which will allow for more lift and much better speeds.

The decision is fueled due to the lack of reliable aircraft developers in the region of Europa Atlantica, of which there is only one that the USSY would likely deal with. Reports also indicate a willingness to spur the economy, and create uniformed designs with many interchangeable parts. Furthermore, some aircraft, such as the A-10 Thunderbolt II, are incompatible with existing Yanitarian Air Corps technology, and would create a logistical nightmare to utilize along with such craft as the Su-25. It is expected that by taking the best of all worlds, a uniformed Yanitarian standard will find favour with militaries that value reliability and quality.

In order to facilitate the coming demand, the Yanitarian Government has funneled most of it's R&D budget, as well as a sizable amount of corporate subsidies into corporations such as Yanitarian Aerospace (a branch of Yantiarian Arms), L'Assault Ltd., Daedalus Advanced Aerospace Corporation, Martin-Voronov Helicopter Plant, Athenoi Aerospace, Yawarah Air Works, Sunder Cosmonautical Engineering, Aeromarine Engineering Corporation, and the Wellington Aircraft Corporation.

An announcement had previously been made to all leaders of the nations belonging to the New Oslo Pact, as Yanitaria is the main arms supplier, or a major arms supplier for many of those nations.

Eravian, Yanitaria - The Pan-Atlantican Summit, aimed at easing tensions in the region, was disrupted about two hours in when Commisar Stuyonovich of Stoklomolvi collapsed during a heated debate over a universal currency. There is no update as of yet regarding his condition.

This also comes at a time when the nations of the New Oslo Pact have gathered a small amount of military units, usually no more than a division, or in Yanitaria's case, no more than a total of 2,500 soldiers total, for Mock Military Exercises, in order to better train the militaries of the smaller nations of the alliance, and to keep the skills of the more experienced military powers in good practice.

It is unknown whether Commisar Stuyonovich's condition will affect either the summit or the war games.

Brugge, Yanitaria - Today Yanitaria celebrated the birth of it's 1 Billionth citizen (of course not counting citizens that are no longer living). Francois D'Arkadia, the new born son of popular Arkadian (one of the four major ethnic groups in Yanitaria) model, and poster girl for Nova Schin's new non-alcoholic beer, Marie D'Arkadia, was born at 2:25AM, March 10th, 2008, at Clear Lake Memorial Hospital in the city of Brugge, in southern Yanitaria.

His father, who would not comment on the birth, seemed less than ecstatic. He only had this to say:

"I know my girlfriend is a good woman, but with such high promiscuity rates in Yanitaria really have me worried. It's no wonder there are a billion people living in our country, what with people advertising themselves as being so promiscuous. It really has me worried that maybe Francois isn't mine, and I don't know what to do besides get a paternity test."

The father is known to be a prominent member of the "Council for Virginity Until Marriage".

Eravia, Yanitaria - Commisar Stuyonovich was evacuated to Eravian Northwest Hospital, following what we believe to be a heart attack (although there has been no official announcement).

The Commisar, after being stabilized at the Yanitarian Hospital had to be airlifted to the nearest city in Stoklomolvi, as the Yanitarian doctors had none of his medical records. It is reported that the Commisar is still alive, though in a coma. More news as the story develops.

Algiers, Kabavia - A vote was taken yesterday of Kabavians and Yanitarians holding dual citizenship over the Kingdom's status as a sovereign nation.

Kabavians almost unanimously agreed that the status held currently, of Sovereign Protectorate of the United Socialist States of Yanitaria is acceptable, and Kabavia's protectorate status has been renewed for another 20 years.

The Kingdom of Kabavia has had a close relationship with Yanitaria ever since the current royal family was overthrown in the 1800's, and fled to the Kingdom of Yanitaria disguised as wealthy merchants. In October of 1930, Yanitarian backed Kabavia struck back, and the Yanitarian Army invaded, quickly liberating the Kabavians and reinstating the original monarch, in exchange for protectorate status and a few other concessions.

Aeromarine Engineering Company Readies It's New Engine

Yanitaria City, Yanitaria - Aeromarine Engineering Corporation, in the wake of increased government support of Aerospace companies, has received the necessary funds from the government to finally put their AmTF-870 engine into the final stages of testing, meaning that it should be available in time for the competition held by Daedalus Advanced Aerospace Corporation, to decide which new engines will be used on it's FSBP (Future Strategic Bomber Project).

While Daedalus has not commented on the design, they maintain that the design is to heavily based on their 90's era DaE-3490. However, with the fuel efficiency rating of most turboprops versus turbofans, Daedalus is incredibly pressured to come up with an engine that would be able to compete.

However, there is no guarantee that Aeromarine will actually put forth the engine for the competition. In early 2005 when Aeromarine first got permission from the USSY, under the Yanitarian Patent Reform Act of 1995, Daedalus heavily contested their prize engine design being given away to a company with almost no experience. Further, after a Yanitarian judge ruled in favor of Aeromarine, Athenoi Aerospace, Daedalus's biggest competitor in the Heavy Airplane market, presented a fully functional DaE-3490 to Aeromarine, bought from Yanitarian Airways following the Aerospace Recession in late 1999.

However, engineers from all three companies have praised the innovative design of the engine, which is scheduled to go into production late this month.

Yanitarian Aerospace Companies Invest in Kahanistan

Kahanistan - The Yanitarian Aerspace Industry has decided as a group to create an intermediate company to invest in Kahanistani mineral wealth, and cheap labour. This intermediate company, called the Kahanistani Aerospace Investment Firm will take raw materials, and either ship them to Yanitaria, or in the case of small, unimportant parts, like bolts, windshields, tires, or sheet metal, will be produced locally and sent back to Yanitaria to be assembled.

However, Yanitarian observers pointed out that the low income work force may not be the hardest workers. To combat this, KAIF will provide the worker's and their families with company subsidized medical insurance, health care, and education, while also providing a reduced rate of appliances and manufactured good produced in Yanitaria or it's protectorates or colonies.

Throppe - Negotiations ended yesterday concerning Yanitarian Arms expansion in the Orbathian colony of Throppe, which has been seeking trusted companies in order to build up it's industry.

Yanitarian Arms, on behalf of the Yanitarian government, also asked if the Aerospace companies of Yanitaria could forage a similar path to the one they have taken in Kahanistan, drawing themselves closer together in order to fund a non-biased company that will manufacture aircraft parts to be shipped back to Yanitaria. The new company, which some sources say will be named the Yanitarian United Aerospace Investment Firm, will also take control of the Kahanistani Aerospace Investment Firm, and conduct operations in Kabavia as well.

This deal for Yanitarian Arms comes directly after an Orbathian order of a sizable amount of arms for use with their colonial forces in Throppe. Meanwhile, back in Europa Atlantica, there have been hints that the previously frigid relations between Binaria and Yanitaria (and thus Binaria and the rest of the New Oslo Pact) may thaw as Yanitarian officials meet with Binarian counterparts in order to discuss a future deal to build arms factories in each other's nations.

It is unknown when or if these negotiations will take place, or how the nations of EA will react, but observers are optimistic.

Yanitaria City - Yesterday, parliament signed a landmark bill, which was then passed by President Norheim, restoring the monarchy in a limited sense, and naming current president Norheim King of Yanitaria. This comes almost immediately after Yanitaria put in a bid to buy a fief from a dissolving monarchy, and promising Andrea Norheim, Frederick's cousin, as Duke. A new flag (http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i156/UNDComrade/Yanitaria/FlagofYanitaria.png) was commisioned, and the President gave the following speech.

Yanitaria has come into a great cultural circle. Our monarchy, which had been thousands of years old, is now restored, and will continue on into eternity.

However my reign as King of the newly created United Royal Provinces of Yanitaria will be markedly different. From my coronation onward, I vow to uphold the principals of equality that bound my father and his comrades in creating their socialist state. Never again will there be a monarch that abuses the people, or sacrifices their rights in order to placate a small minority that comprises the nobility. This will be a monarchy given power by the people, and trusted to do what is right for the people.

With that said, the Houses will be reestablished, with my own newly created House of Norheim, comprising my family and most trusted advisers of Yanitarii birth.

This change will be, of course, entirely superficial, except for the appointment of Governorship of the Provinces, and certain ceremonial military positions.

It takes a bit of back story, which I am playing with here. See, there are four major ethnic groups here, the Yanitarii, the Kabo-Afrikans, the Arkadians, and the Stemilov.

The Stemilov and Kabo are basically non-entities, since they were the original inhabitants of the area when the original Kingdom of Yanitaria took over, and now only make up around 6% of the pop.

The Yanitarii were originally viking raiders who were pushed farther into Ukraine than in real life, fleeing from some other entity that I haven't named yet. They originally conquered the Stemilov in present day northern Yanitaria.

They established the KoY, which lasted for ~400 years, until Arkadians from the neighboring nation of Corbournne, and established themselves as the Royalty of Yanitaria.

The Yanitarii obviously didn't like it, but the Arkadians were superior in arms, and after thefirst hundred years, there was a heavily begrudged acceptance.

However, in the 18 and 1900s, the ideas of socialism heavily effected Yanitaria, as it fitted nicely with Yanitarii culture (which is still separate from Arkadian culture, since the Arkadians are notoriously racist). During the 1980's, Mattias Norheim, a middle class Yanitarii, who was a student in the University at the time, helped to start a riot, which quickly turned into a full out war.

It took all of the 80's, but eventually so many Arkadians had been killed, and the loses of loyalist troops were so great, that during the final siege of the capitol, the royal guards assassinated the last king and presented him to the Yanitarii revolutionaries in order to save themselves.

So Norheim, who had become the leader of the revolution early on, helped to establish a socialist democracy.

Now, it is important to note that it's socialist, not communist. Free enterprise is still allowed and even encouraged, but there are many large government corporations (and always more than one in any area where there is no competition), but the most important, is that the Yanitarian form of socialism emphasized equality with the Arkadians.

Now, Mattias was assassinated by Baudoin, who was a hardcore communist, and for a few months, the United Yanitarian Party ruled harshly, calling on Hitler-style emergency powers, which taught the people that socialism and communism can be just as easily corrupted. They wanted someone like Mattias, and hoped to find that in his son, Frederick.

Frederick, on the other hand, didn't know just how easy it would be for him to run for president. The Monarchist party, which is dominated by Arkadians, did, and invited him to join their party and run.

So he joins the monarchist party, which is elected, and gets most of the parliamentary seats (simply because they are in the same party as Norheim). Therefore Norheim is obligated to bring back the monarchy, and the people support him because they see it as the best of both the ancient monarchy, and the modern socialist democracy.

Norheim, even though he is the monarch (a slightly more ceremonial title than president), will maintain as much of the socialist democracy, that his father fought to build, as he can.

This brings out the chance to strengthen the class system somewhat more than before, and lead to interesting RPs about the subtle battles between the self-entitled Arkadians, and the equality-seeking Yanitarii, who will from now on have a more pronounced feud.

Yanitaria City - The Yanitarian Air Expo, one of the larger airshows in Yanitaria, was graced by a pleasant surprise: The Daedalus Model 34 "Constellation" strategic bomber made it's first public appearance, with three of them flying low over the crowds.

After their flights, in which they flew in a triangle formation and dropped fact sheets on the crowd with amazing precision, the three planes landed, and the public was allowed to get close and take pictures of the exteriors. Unfortunately, they were not allowed to see the inner workings, or bomb bays. However, the 18 crew members greated the public and signed autographs, and even talked about their new bomber, which they are very happy with.

The Constellation project has fought technical problems associated with keeping the Tu-95's long range from the beginning, and the crews are quoted as thanking the new engine. Some professional observers were surprised to see the layout of the engines as being conventional. It was largely expected that the plane would use high mounted wings to take full effect of the Coanda effect, but engineers say that they had to change that to bolster the range.

Yanitaria City - Stock prices soar as new deals in the arms and aerospace industry are made. Binarian arms manufacturers have confirmed their interest in opening arms factories in Yanitaria, while Yanitarian Arms will be opening plants in Binaria. The United Yanitarian Aerospace Investment Firm has finally opened up plants in Throppe.

Wittenshcau's purchase has been approved, and UYAIF has invested heavily in the colony, and planes to use the cheap labour to cut costs on their aircraft. Besides opening plants, UYAIF has also bought all of the mines, and will use them to obtain cheap aluminum and titanium. They have also urged refining companies to open up ore refineries in Wittenshcau, in order to cut costs to their cheapest. Finally, they have opened up an International Airport, which the various air carriers of Yanitaria are expected to use.

As an added bonus, the new colony of Wittenshcau is expected to be highly profitable in the commercial farming and forestry industries as well. It already has a bustling industry in technology, and is expected to bring prices for computers in Yanitaria to all time lows.

Observers are praising the purchase of Wittenshcau, claiming that it is both extremely profitable, and will benefit both Yanitarians and Wittenshcausans.

Russian Ixania - Captain Fitzsimmons takes a drag on his cigarette as he speaks to us. "Yeah, been with the Yanitarian Foreign Legion for a couple years now. Ain't seen a big conflict in a while though."

Fitzsimmons is just one of many Legionnaires who were deployed earlier this week to Russian Ixania, along with elements of the Yanitarian Air Corps.

Liech - With the aid of Stoklomolvi, the United Royal Provinces of Yanitaria outbid Rotovia for the principality of Liech. With it's dense industrial capability, and rich mines, Liech provides an ideal place for the United Yanitarian Aerospace Investment Firm. With Rumours of Athenoi Aerospace developing a new bomber to replace the Tu-22M3, many wonder if they had a hand in urging the Yanitarian government to buy Liech.

Stoklomolvi, who provided Yanitaria with a loan (even though they offered it as a gift) will be paid back, plus allowed extensive industrial privileges that are not usually afforded to foreign companies.

The Yanitarian Foreign Legion deployed last week to Liech, and has met no resistance, unlike the war-torn Wittenshcau. Royal Orbathian Foreign Legionnaires were also spotted with several groups of YFL officers, and the two foreign legions seem to the surveying land for bases.

This comes as no surprise, as the YFL has recently opened two bases in Throppe and Orbath, while Orbath has opened bases in Wittenshcau and Yanitaria.

Yanitarian Colonel Frederick Olafsson spoke briefly with us about this new expansion of the two foreign legions.

We have been planning to work closer with our Orbathian counterparts for a while. The base exchange was our idea, and we are glad to see that it was welcomed. We are hoping to build more bases in foreign nations, and by the end of the year, the ability for the URPY to project power throughout the world should be increased.

We are also hoping to increase recruitment as our budget increases. Entire armies recruited from Liech and Wittenshcau are planned, and I suppose it's just the beginning. We really want to outsource security of these colonies to the indigenous. Perhaps, some day, if they gain their independence, they will be fully prepared for it. And I think thats what the government wants. By making the indigenous population feel like they have their own province, they may not want to leave the protection of the URPY.

Liech - Liech, the newest colony of the URPY, exploded last night, quite literally, as a car bomb in a catholic neighborhood went off. The Catholics took to the street this morning in a peaceful protest that soon got out of hand, as a synagogue was rushed by protesters, and PPF riot squads had to intervene.

It is believed that a jewish separatist movement is responsible, and is doing so to protest their private schools being nationalized, and the jewish teachers being replaced with more secular ones.

It is widely known that the jewish teachers in private schools were largely picked for their religious devotion, rather than their ability to teach or knowledge of the subject. There is also controversy over the new curriculum. Previously, evolution had not been taught in any jewish private schools, and was considered heretical. Now with the secularization, and the introduction of teachers from Yanitaria, who are almost entirely atheist, the jews of Liech are up in arms.

The Yanitarian government has threatened the colonial officials in Liech that if the attacks get out of hand, the Yanitarian Integrated Ground Forces will be called in, and will march on the communities one by one, arresting dangerous individuals, and with drawing the Liechen people's rights to firearms.

Arkadia, Yanitaria - Leader of the URPY, King Norheim II has decided to undergo a regional and then international world tour, in the hope of securing trade deals for Yanitaria's declining agricultural industry, and it's faltering arms industry.

In the face of recession, the Yanitarian Minister of Finance, Irène Bordoni, states that "Yanitaria simply needs more of a market than what we have. With our colonies chipping away at the salaries of many workers, we really ought to be more proactive about foreign and regional trade."

In addition, King Norheim states, "You know, I really would like to travel the world because it's something that I really enjoy, that my occupation simply hasn't allowed. I look forward to traveling abroad, and foraging new ties for the Kingdom."

Okhotsk Island - It was a fridgid morning, as the Orbathian ships arrived at Thiers Naval Base. Here, an as of yet undisclosed amount of troops and ships has gathered to counter the threat in the rogue state of Miroxia, which is being aided by what the Yanitarian private and state owned media firms have called "The Miroxian Puppet Master", The Poorly Lit Empire of Shazbotdom (although there is some dispute over how exactly the long name should be translated into French, this is the generally accepted name. Alternate translations are the "Unenlightened Empire of Shazbotdom", and the "Unhappy Empire of Shazbotdom").

Although there has been no comment on military action by the government, there have been several "leaked" documents that suggest a major plan is in the works.

New Protest Album Sparks Controversy

Yanitaria City, Yanitaria - As of 00:00 17/8/08, the long awaited album, Agitation! has finally been released, free of charge, on to The Pirate Bay as a torrent file by it's owners. The collaborative effort by several independant rock bands, or "indie" bands to the younger generation, has sparked great controversy. The government of His Majesty, King Frederik Norheim II, has officially chided the artists, while the King himself is rumoured to be one of the 400,000,000 Yanitarians to aquire the album. However, the number is "Truly staggering," as Kjell Solheim, the Professor of Popular Culture at U de V explains. "What people fail to realize is that almost a quarter of our population have in their possession this album, and it has only been out for a day. These artists have mobilized and entire generation, telling them to do things like create CD groups to download the album and burn it to discs for their friends who either do not know how to use bit torrent or don't have an internet connection or computer. Not only have the created the single best selling Yanitarian album of this decade, but they have done it with out charging their listeners!"

Michel de Cannes, one of the many artists of the album, was elected by the groups to handle interviews while they prepare for a charity concert to be held here in the Capitol. We were able to sit down with him and have a chat.

YNW: This album is obviously a historical piece that has rocked the nation. What do you feel is the biggest key to your success?

Michel: Well, there were a lot of things. First of all, it helps that Yanitarians know how it feels. I know that some of the artists, in particular Astrid from Evolution Kills were surprised when I, an Arkadian, showed up for the first meeting. Her eyes nearly popped out of her skull! [Laughs.] But after the initial shock, everyone sorta got used to it. There were even jokes about how I was "mistakenly on the wrong side."

But aside from that, I think the biggest thing was to have all these famous independent artists. It really helps that we don't have a record label to weigh us down, because, for instance, there would have been previous engagements that a corporate record label wouldn't have let us cancel. Also, a lot of us already had drafts for our songs that we had written before the idea of a collaboration had even come up! I think that lent a lot to the quality, since we didn't have to rush anything, and because we had each other to get the creative juices flowing.

YNW: Well that certainly is interesting. Did any of you foresee the amazing success that would eventually come from this album?

Michel: Well, sort of. Our forums were down every night during the last month, usually early in the morning. A lot of the fans thought it was just because of the shitty host, or the incompetent staff running the website, but after the first three days, we checked with our host, and they told us that the crappy servers needed to be taken down for extensive maintenance because of the traffic we were getting. And there were other signs, too. I'd be out on a date, for instance, and I'd hear a group of teens discussing the album heatedly, then I'd see a group of people with "Questrian Freedom" buttons, and then I'd see a group of 20-somethings arguing over whether or not social change in Questers is possible. Hell, I was playing a small venue one night, and the crowd demanded I sign my song from Agitation!, which of course I couldn't. Also, we got a lot of donations from around the world, and we even got a group of volunteers to translate fan mail regarding the album into french for us.

YNW: That's another thing. This album had to have cost money. How much? And where did you get it?

Michel: Oh, that's the great thing. The father of the singer for Communerds, Anna, has been their producer since they started. He has all the equipment, which itself isn't rare for a popular indie band, but his equipment was really nice. He was a great guy, too, treated everyone like family, he even called me son.

He did his thing for free, and he was very professional about it. He was a sound engineer for 20 years before his daughter started a band, so he knew his stuff. The website and in general getting the word out was the most expensive bit. But because so many people are plugged in to our music, that we had no problem getting discounts left and right. Fans chipped in, but of course we paid a lot of it. Astrid especially.

YNW: We have to ask (Seriously, it's in our contracts), you've been spotted on several occasions with Astrid in social settings. Is there anything going on?

Michel: Well, we are both very private people, but after this album, you shouldn't be surprised to see any of the contributing artists hanging out. We've all really become close, some closer than others.

YNW: Before we go, tell us more about this concert.

Michel: Yes, well, it'll be in the Theater District in Yanitaria City on the 23rd, at the Black Diamond Concert Hall (http://www.dattapeetham.com/india/tours/2004/nada_prasara/denmark/concert_hall.jpg). As a joke, a friend in the Yanitarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent Benjamin Russell and Alexander Beaufort II each ten tickets in the front row, but we know they won't come. Of course we've asked fans not to drink or smoke at the concert, and we are putting a strict limit on the number of tickets. But all the proceeds are going to charity, and the tickets are already sold out. We've collected, from this concert, over 1,000,000 Marque Royales from just the tickets, and the owner of the hall is donating all the profit from the concession stands, plus there will be merchandise. It's going to be the concert of the century.

*For english speakers, this title is a play on words. Siège, in French, means Siege, however, it also means Seat, which, in Yanitaria, is also a slang word for one's bottom, similar to the English word "Bum."

First of all, one has to give it up for these great bands. From the super stars to the relatively unknown "Erik est Mort", these artists are actually making a difference in the world. Now on to the actual review. With all the hype surrounding the album, I was fully prepared to be disappointed, and let me tell you, I was completely off base. Lyrically, these artists have obviously influenced each other, with the plays on words that one comes to expect from the Communerds, Ah L'Ironie, or DEATHMØLE being found throughout the album. Further, my personal favorite is the vugarly named "Va Te Faire Enculer", a pleasant and exciting duel of lyrics between The Communerds and DEATHMØLE. In this song in particular, it seems as if every band member engages in a friendly battle of notes with their counterpart in the opposite band.

Also, it is interesting to note the conceptual continuity; the album cover being red, white, and black, but entirely hypothetical is actually very subtle symbolism, which I only recognized after I noticed the same theme of red, white, and black, hypothetical action, and popular movement throughout all of the song's lyrics. Although it was hard to spot, all of the songs are somehow tied together in a way I personally haven't seen since Ah L'Ironie's last album, Decembre.

On the purely musical side, I am not a big fan of Génétique, as it doesn't quite seem to fit the tone of the rest of the album, and I wonder if that is somehow done on purpose. This particular song is the only one to mention only one of the colors of the album cover, and perhaps the different tone is a subtle reminder that the Questrian whites are the minority? It is extremely hard to tell, which I am sure will be very popular with intellectuals around the world. However, all the songs are extremely good, and, even though I almost always use The Pirate Bay to download music for free, I would be willing to pay money for all of the individual singles if they come out. However, my only complaint is that the music is different from what each of these bands usually write. The influence is heavy, and the music in this album is distinctly different from the sounds I have become accustom to from these bands. But perhaps this is just more symbolism!

I'd give Agitation! a 10/10, perfect score. A must have, for any hipster, music nerd, or freedom loving hippy. It's free, so you have absolutely no excuse! Although you can, and I know that I will, make a donation to the cause at www.FreedomThroughMusic.ya

Grasse - Independent Rocker Michel de Cannes and his rumoured love interest, the Singer from Evolution Kills, were attacked last night by two armed gunmen in the city of Grasse , while on their way to a concert in Yanitaria City. Astrid, 23, and Michel, 25, where rushed to the hospital immediately afterwards, while their attackers, who's identities have not been released, were apprehended by an off duty gendarme. Astrid is suffering from a minor wound to her arm and left side, while Michel is recovering from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and neck, however we are told that he will make a full recovery, and has asked that the concert continue with out him.

The two assailants, both members of the Yanitarian Foreign Legion are suffering from minor gunshot wounds sustained during their capture, and our sources confirm that one has been paralyzed by a spinal injury, while the other is suffering massive infections from a wound to his lower intestine. Police have released the motive for the crime, which is claimed to be support for both Questrian and Scandinvan racism. Michel has responded by asking that the album Agitation! be considered commentary on racism in general, rather than soley Questrian racism.

Grasse - In a move that some Yanitarian commentators are calling foul on, King of Questers, Alex Beaufort II sent a hand written letter to a hospitalized Michel de Cannes. A member of the Freedom Through Music foundation who could read english was brought in to translate the short, hand written note for Michel and his girlfriend, Astrid. He later, from memory, wrote down the letter and read it aloud for a group of reporters who had been tipped off by a contact in the postal service.

The letter reads thusly:

Dear Sir,

I was pleased to receive your invitation to your 'rock' concert (although the concept of throwing rocks around a theatre is new to me), but a pressing issue was brought to my attention by the head of my security detail: will there be any ******s present? If so, does your city have a large enough supply of cages? It would be most unfortunate for the poor animals at the City Zoo to be robbed of their homes.

The letter was later produced for photos, and the version given at the press conference is confirmed to be, with the exception of a word or two, entirely verbatim. Michel reportedly refused to hear the letter again for it's offensiveness, however, in a bout of anger with the Questarian monarch, Astrid reportedly fired back with her own letter.

Following the media release of the edited picture from the famous "Two Fingers" speech, youths around Yanitaria wishing to protest Questarian racism have produced buttons bearing the image. Furthermore, the Freedom Through Music foundation has officially requested an apology from Mister Beaufort, and have announced their intention to launch a massive street campaign in questers, passing out albums in the streets and setting up radios for lower class africans to listen to the CD. While this plan may be entirely speculative, one might ask how they would pay for such a huge undertaking.

However, the President of the United States of Allanea and General-Secretary of the Confederacy of Sovereign States, monsieur Alexander Kirillovich Kazansky, has surprised many by not only matching the amount of money donated to the foundation, but more than doubling it! At approximately 15:06 on the 20th, the Commerce Bank of Southern Yanitaria received a check to the order of 25 billion universal standard dollars, the largest ever transaction between an Allanean and Yanitarian party. It is certain that this money will go a long way towards supporting any future efforts towards racial equality. Ingershall, Oppland Province, Yanitaria - The Yanitarian National Team, locally known by it's french nickname "La Yanitarie", faced up against their friendly rivals across the border in Corbournne, at Le Stade de Yanitarie, losing by only a single point. The day had started mostly cloudy, with the weather improving towards the end of the night, a bad omen as the Yanitarian side of the crowd grew silent as the match ended.

The national heartbreak was almost palpable, broken only in the intense moments when the crowd burst into crazed cheers as the young Jørgen Mikkelsen (21) scored the only goal of the night for Yanitaria, or when the veteran Marcel Depardieu (27), a former soldier, blocked by the slightest degree a goal. However, as Vice-Captain Espen Nordvik put it, "Sometimes even the most determined teams lose. The Corbournnians put up a great game, no doubt about it.

That is not to say that the Yanitarians did not play entirely fairly. Simen Rasmussen (22), the team's enforcer, early on earned himself a red card for violent conduct. Although the Yanitarian National Team is said to unofficially condone the use of limited violence, up to the point of serious injury, it was a Yanitarian referee who called the foul, citing the minor injury to the opposing player, and an unwillingness to permit violent behavior, especially on the part of his own nation's team.

Rasmussen objected to the decision, but team coach Fabrice Calderé calmed things down with the irate player before sending him to the bench. Later, insiders report that the coach dressed down his player for such an obvious rule violation, and even threatened to throw him off the team unless he started obeying the rules. Indeed, tensions were high beteween Calderé and his assistant coach, Élodie Courau, who supported Rasmussen.

Hopefully this division will not mark a decline in the team's standing, as the Dienstad Cup continues.

Tadjikistan - The Yanitarian crowd honestly couldn't be anymore distraught. In the first two games, La Yanitarie has lost by one point, earning a place as the lowest ranking team in their group. The team itself, however, seemed disappointed, but not defeated. Team Captain, Sigurd Dahl (27), personally patted his friend and comrade, Jørgen Mikkelsen (21) on the back, consoling him over the fact that his last minute shot was blocked, which would have tied the game.

Mikkelsen later, speaking to the press in general, was quoted as saying "I did my best, but obviously it wasn't good enough. We played a good game, but we lost. That just means that we have to fight harder during a match against Stevid. We will do better next time, I hope."

However, fans and spectators are not so hopeful, as the team would find out. Upon arriving back to Yanitaria, they were greated by their bus, as usual. However, most unusually, the van was covered in graffiti, with toilette paper streaming out of broken windows. The bus's lavatory was rendered completely unusable, as a fire had been started in the toilette basin, and the sink contained an unknown liquid. Authorities have apprehended the vandals, however, and they await trial. Vice-Captain, Espen Nordvik (27), has asked that the vandals simply pay for the repairs, saying that he understands that the people of Yanitaria are upset.

The next match, against Stevid's national team, should take place next wensday. Hopefully our team can pull off a spectacular win.

Neufchâteau-à-la-frontière, Province Montagneuse - Excitement abounds at the southern city of Neufchâteau as preparations are made to host what would seem to be the first of a number of diplomatic talks between high level diplomats of La Yanitarie and Tocrowkia. Special importance is placed on these talks, as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jocelyn Eldegaard, will be scrutinized by the public during the election season, and the outcome of the talks could very well sway public opinion on the Parti Social-Démocrate. Should talks go awry, the Partie Monarchiste may find itself with a legislative majority next month.

Soldiers of the 1ère Division d'Infanterie Mécanisée were moved temporarily to a base near Le Chateux de Joux, not only to take part in security measures (although one could note that their dress uniforms preclude most intense physical activity), but also to present the Royal Army's best soldiers to the Tocrowkian official, hopefully sending the intended message that while Yanitaria may be relatively small, her military has more than enough teeth. The First platoon, in their khaki and black uniforms hefted their AY-144 rifles with pride, performing drills for the benefit of the cameras.

From the vantage point of the chateux, the artillery battalion, the essence of military prowess and Yanitarian Technical skill (OOC: Big Steel Penis RAWR) could clearly be seen, and there was no doubt that any diplomatic talks would take place near a window, offering a breathtaking view of the valley, with the stiff reminder of the artillery always in sight. On a lighter note, Royal Chef Quentin de Grasse was present, and insisted that all journalists sample a number of delicacies that would be available for the diplomats, chief among them his Croque-Yanitarien (smoked salmon cooked in bread with cheese, served with a tomato and mushroom omelet placed on top), which almost instantly disappeared from the table. Additionally, he had prepared a stew of indeterminate origin, which he had only named as Le Dolma de les Abigazi, referencing the semetic people of the Peoples Republic of Abigazi, where Yanitaria holds a strong influence.

Cerberus - Today billions of people watched as Senator John Norris of The People's Freedom announced his candidacy for their upcoming presidential race. This news, coming so close to the Yanitarian elections, has drawn extreme interest with it's implications for Yanitarian-Prussian relations, especially with the large Prussian minority in Northern Yanitaria and Province Oriental. During the short speech, Norris derided the existing government of TPF, claiming that they are responsible for such things as their war in Foxbury, Corporate Favoritism over small business, and unabashed bribery, among other things. These revelations where shocking, as many people outside of TPF were not aware of the government corruption, which have now essentially required any Yanitarian party in the presidential race to voice support for the Libertad party, or at least against their opposition.

In response to these major allegations, King Norheim II has voiced concerns over whether or not the elections in TPF will be entirely honest, and has made it known that should he be asked, he would create an organization that would have the capability of watching election stations, although he has not made any commitments yet. As of 7:30 this morning, news leaked from the Parlement building that a number of conseillers have started putting aside money from their own pockets and from their campaign funds to begin training volunteers, a fact which easily found its way to the press for obvious reasons. A number of conseillers, notably from the Alternative Liberale, have called this act blatant pandering, and preparation for interventionism. The controversial move seems to have sparked intense debate, although the extreme minority status of the AL party has limited its extent.
