OOC: I figured I would type this now while I had absolutely nothing to do except reflect on the past 5 years of my life and times here on NationStates. I know it's early, but I wanted to get this out of the way before I either forgot or wouldn't have the time or effort to put into a serious thread. To be honest I never expected to have lasted this long on a roleplaying game, which before NS I had absolutely no experience with...or even creative writing for that matter.

It all started in late March of 2003 when someone posted a link to NS on the General forum on Automags.org, the first website I signed up on after getting internet access in December of 2002 when I bought my first computer. I was hooked from the second I signed up, and my first effort on the forums was posting a short and terribly written thread about a civil uprising after Dictator Automagfreek rose up and took power. It was then that my oldest ally Aequatio posted shortly afterwards of him sending his Marines in to help restore order, and thus our IC and OOC friendship was born and 5 years later is still going strong. In the next couple of days I decided to play as a democracy under the authority of President Kaye (an inside note, all of my cities and major leaders at the time were all related to either the Automag or the company that made them, the now defunct Airgun Designs).

Again within a couple of days I formed the WMNK Coalition (War Mongering Noob Killers), and in the pre-moderator days we acted essentially as the police of the RP forum. Those who know me know I'm a humble man, but WMNK made me a household name on NS early on, largely because we shut up disruptive n00bs and opposed the GDODAD (Global Dominion Of Dictators Against Democracy), and after World War 4 and World War 5 we managed to take them down. These two large wars were perhaps some of the best fun I've had on NS, and when WW4 broke out I didn't sleep for almost 2 days because I wanted to be the first to spot any development and plan accordingly. Afterwards I got to know another great friend of mine, Pantera, who really inspired me to improve myself and take my writing to the next level.

Then in September of 2003 I decided I wanted to play a "bad guy" since most of the "bad guys" were defeated in the summer, and as a result I created Damien Dreadfire (Pantera is the creator of the name 'Dreadfire'). I went on the warpath after that and became perhaps best known for random genocides and other atrocities, but I won't go on and on about 5 years of it. War wise though, I've been in 22 major wars, over a half dozen conflicts/interventions, and have razed 11 nations from existance either from nuclear strikes or complete genocide. None of these in the MT/PMT/Fantasy storyline they were played in and that I still play were lost. But while I was very briefly RPing as future tech I lost to Melkor Unchained (one of the few 'megapowers' back in the day) in the clusterfuck that was the 'Coalition War', and my short embarrassing stint in FT is a mistake that I learned several lessons from, and as a result it made me a better RPer in the long run.

Though I've been inactive at times over the years and have faded from the spotlight on occasion, I would like to think that Automagfreek, my creation, is still relevant and a force to be reckoned with in this RP community I've help shape. I've been in International Incidents since the very second I refreshed my browser and saw it appear on the forums, and this is my RP home where I plan on staying forever. I've done a lot of things over the years that some may like and some may hate, but one that has and will never change is that I RP for myself first and foremost. My fantasy stories are largely for my personal enjoyment since I have a strong fascination with the macabre and the brutal metal scene, and the music I create in real life is largely driven by my NS experience. I've realized after several attempts to rid myself of Damien and the dark imagery of AMF that this is how I will always RP my nation, since its become apart my life in more ways than one. I'm just not happy any other way.

So in closing, my 5 years of NationStates have been fantastic, and I look forward to another 5 and so on. I've made a lot of friends along with way and I thank all of them for sticking alongside me over the years, and I hope to see all of you when we all meet back here for our 10th anniversary. For those who have yet to interact with me, I look forward to doing so in the future. AMF will always be around and as active as can be if I can help it, but what will happen in the years to come, who knows....

Huzzah AMF! Here's to five more! Even if we are often on the opposite sides of the table :p

Seriously though, besides Matt, you probably inspired me the most to be a good writer (not that you bothered to teach me how to be one :p). Anyways, congrats, and mebbeh someday we wont always have to stare each other down.

It's not often I talk to someone about these forums and the main military powers that dwell in it and your name doesn't come up. AMF is one three letter acroymn that I have learned to respect.

Politically we're on opposite sides of the table simply because you're a threat to the existance of the Holy Empire, but it's a shame we haven't RPed together often. Anyway it's great to see that some of the old giants still walk among us and terrify us into submission with just a glance.

I'm just one player of many who has 100% respect for you.

It's a name that sends countless legions of n00bs like myself into fits of whimpers and sobs of fear everytime we see a post bearing that name.

You sir, are a legend and an inspiration to us all, pros, rookies, newbies and n00bs alike.

Congrats :)

In all seriousness, though, you're an NS institution, man. Here's to 5 more years.

I'm breaking my own rules about not posting II, just for this. Congrats on five years. Hit five years myself with my main nation in January. Whether we like you or hate you, you've certainly been a big part of NS historically.

Thanks to everyone, friend both old and new, and those I have yet to interact with.

Stevid, we really should get something going sometime. Since 'A Passion Play' I've wanted to get some kind of RP going, doesn't really matter to me what.

Antigr, I'm currently having small conflicts with The PeoplesFreedom and Blackhelm, though both are moving at a moderate/slow pace.

Adihan, good to see more old timers still around. :)

Well the Babel RP (The spin off from A Passion Play) is starting now, you might be able to talk to Mac about it. I believe your in NATO (Not sure, been a while since i've kept tabs on the alliance
) which means, politically, we don't get on which could be the start of some decent writing. I'm sure something will present itself in the future.

Its always cool to see older members stay active, older members who can give young snappers like me a good thrashin!

Congrats on five years, Automagfreek! Hope to see you on the battlefield or in a boardroom, discussing some new alliance!

5 whole years... congrats! You've done a ton to shape NS and II, and we'll forever be in your debt.
Anagonia

You know, when I first started back in November of 03 as Nodea Rudav, then later in December 03 as Anagonia, there was only one person, one nation, I respected above all else. Automagfreek.

I don't know, but all my time here has been spent trying to match his skill and glamor in the role playing scene. Trying every route, trying every way, to become more and more like he is and what he does here. I've even went so far as to suggest wars, or even to try to topple Automagfreek. But, even those fell short, because I respected him too much.

In so little words its impossible to describe how AMF has shaped my experience on NS, and everything he did to make such awesome Role Plays that anyone would die just to be a part of. Only three other people have changed my perspective of NS so much like AMF. One of them Northrop-Grumman, who is a good friend of mine. The other is Unified Sith, and still another I forgot the name of. But either way I...

..well...I'm actually in a loss for words at how much respect I have for him. I don't know why, its just there. He's just that awesome. I mean, I work a lot, and NS isn't my life, but he truly is one of the people who I actually look up to here.

*shrug*

Yea, so...I guess thats it. Anyway. Not good with admiring people.

EDIT;

I never knew him personally, never tried to I guess. I admit I'd probably p*ss my pants if he offered a co-op rp with Anagonia. I don't know why, guess because he's a legend. His status is literally unreachable, the one point where everyone can try to reach but fail to. I've tried, I guess. Failed miserably, left for a few months in distress, came back a new person with my own way. AMF has just shaped who my nation is, and how I RP. How I write my personal stories elsewhere. How I do almost everything involving character-driven rp's and stories. He's just a legend to me.

I hate to admit this to all of you, I hate to do this, because it literally is something personal that I never wanted to speak about. It was just there. I was always afraid that he'd take this the wrong way, but the truth is I was literally afraid of him just shrugging me off. It would be like an Apprentice meeting a potential Master at some long-lost martial arts, describing how he admired so much the master for his skill and wanting to learn, then be turned down. Thats how I feel about it.

But either way, with all my dignity left, I suppose I should say it, because if he ever left here, I just want him to know...

AMF, seriously dude, I want you to know, your a hero to me. I don't know how you could be called it, but you turned my life in story writing in a bright new direction. You were my hope when I believed I could never be as good at writing as some of my favoriate sci-fi writers. You inspired me to become more.

Thank you AMF, and God Bless you. Whether you believe it or not, in my life, my Real Life, you are one of many of the heros I owe so much to for allowing me to meet my potential, and go beyond. Thanks man, because true Hero's don't have to do anything to change something, especially a life. Or however its said...but True Heros IRL...bah...

Blabbering...bah..

Congrats AMF. I've been here four years (this isn't my only nation, and I've never done anything much with any of them really) and enjoyed all of your threads. Well most of them, anyway :p. NS really is addictive, even if you're like me and don't do anything you still log in all the time just to see what else is going on in this virtual world of ours.

Here's to another five years, eh? I'm just looking for an excuse to drink, really... but this is something worth toasting to!

Anagonia, just wanted you to know that your post means a lot, and I'm honored that you look up to me the way you do. Knowing that I can inspire some people like that is definately motivation to keep going in NS, even though there are times when I completely lose interest and want to hang it up for good. But thanks bro, I definately won't forget what you said.

And to my Gholgoth and NATO buds, you better hope we never meet in real life, because there will be much drinking. Then more drinking.

And Izi stole my thread completely now.... :(

Anytime Brother. Never met you, but hell. Might as well consider you family, cause thats what family does I suppose. Inspire their kin to go on, and be more than what they are. I hope you stay for a while, because NS wouldn't be the same without you.

God Bless, and Peace Brother,
