Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the Roseberg Press Channel, where we always have the latest news, up to the minute.
Early this morning, Governor-General Ulysses Rexford announced he will not be running in the upcoming elections for his office. When questioned by reporters he stated that he is losing interest in politics following two consecutive terms of six years, and he feels that it is time for him to step down and go home and let somebody else have a try.
Rexford’s announcement was met by mixed reaction from around the country. His family is pleased by his decision, of course, but his political supporters are nervous and upset, as he has been the main driving force behind the Conservative Party for two decades, and he is expected to leave something of a power-vacuum in the right wing when he goes.
His opponents couldn’t be happier, and many of them see this as an opportunity to maybe have a decent shot at un-seating the Conservative Party from the Governor-Generalship, a lofty goal which has eluded them for nearly twenty years now. Even now, new candidates have begun sprouting up and announcing they mean to run in the upcoming elections, and it’s already looking set to be a long, hard elections race.
In preparation for the elections, the Grand Duke has ordered an international survey made in order to gauge foreign feelings regarding the local politics.

Notable Factions:
Conservative Party: Roseberg’s prime right-wing powerhouse, the Conservative Party is known for its unyielding dedication to conservative ideals among its core members, and it has held the majority in the national government for twenty years.
Progressive Party: Roseberg’s most prominent big left-wing party, the Progressive Party is also the main rival to the CP on almost every level of national politics. Members of this large faction vary in precise ideals but tend to range from middle-left to a very radical left little different from the SWP.
Socialist Workers Party: Looked upon by many as both the most determined party alive in Roseberg, and the most pathetic, the SWP likely deserves both titles. Every election, at least one person from the SWP will try to gain the Governor-General’s office, and always it is a colossal failure which awaits them. Nobody has ever won an election in Roseberg’s history on an SWP ticket. Still, they remain determined.
Independents: Not really a unified party, the term Independent is used in reference to the incredibly diverse and numerous politicians who just don’t fit the large parties and are not in line with each other enough to form a new one.
******************************
Notable Candidates:
Yuille Holt (CP): Having served both in the Senate and as a Secretary of State during the initial two years of Rexford’s most recent term, Holt is a skilled, capable politician, and is likely to become the favorite candidate among CP voters.
Her policies if elected would mostly be continuations of Rexford’s, one exception being a more outgoing stance regarding foreign relations.
Diana Wyatt (PP): Ms. Wyatt has served three full terms in the Senate garnering support in her party, mainly as a champion of National Healthcare. Her supporters believe she is a highly capable politician who can lead the Progressives to political victory.
Her policies if elected would be to support National Healthcare, legalized abortions and a lifting of the ban on gay marriages.
Richard Wilson (SWP): Mr. Wilson, being an SWP official, has never held public office in the Grand Duchy before, but he is seen by his party as capable and skilled, if only in an incredibly theoretical sense.
His policies if elected would include the reformation of Roseberg as a Socialist Republic, including a new Constitution, new laws, and so forth.
Lady Viviana Florentina, Countess Spencer (I): Recently elevated to her lofty position in Roseberg’s newborn aristocracy, Lady Viviana has decided to run as an Independent as her political beliefs are too right wing to suit the established Conservative Party leaders, a large portion of whom she sees as being truly obsessed with compromises.
Her policies if elected would include expansion of the nuclear energy program, creating a National Capital Region, and establishing a Roseberg Space Program.
Every candidate listed here is currently the leading person for their respective faction, and is available for questions by foreign press agents, governments, and so forth…
