Officials at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Maineiacs City have announced that fomer president Anderson McDermott, who was brought in last week suffering from emphysema, died this morning at age 72. McDermott was the youngest man ever elected president of Maineiacs in 2100, at the age of 33. He served two terms, and presided over a period of economic growth and scientific advancement that ended abruptly when his second term ended in 2109. The election of 2108 was won by Jessica Thompson of Anderson's then-ruling Social Democrat Party; Thompson was struck down by an assassin's bullet shortly after taking the oath of office. This led to the Fundamentalist Coup of 2109 that was put down after less than a year through foreign intervention. In the aftermath of the coup, Anderson served as interim President until 2112 when new elections could be scheduled. McDermott then settled into the role of elder statesman, and had lately served as humanitarian ambassador for his daughter, Allison McDermott's administration. President McDermott has said that her father's funeral will be held in Maineiacs City on Saturday, March 12. Numerous family friends and governemnt officials will be in attendance, and the President has extend an invitation to the leaders of nations throughout the multiverse to attend and pay their respects to the man that almost single-handedly rebuilt the nation after the destruction caused by the coup and the subsequent war.
