A Living Legend(FT, Intro)

The last Fusion plant was finally built. The powerful nanolathe in the Commanders arm went dark, a tiny trickle of green matter falling to the ground, and a microscopic energy spike is detected in the stream as the nanomachines reclaim the patch of grass they fell on. 7 massive generators, the plants supplied power to both the civilian infrastructure of Rougpelt, the shields that attenuated the dangerous and frequent meteor showers, and the military forces of the home planet. In space, an additional pair of equally gargantuan plants kept the shipyards running full tilt. Already a single Battleship, the gargantuan Millenium, and a Cruiser, the Crusader, float in space above the planet, within just another couple hours, the three Destroyers that had so long been under construction would be ready. That was to be the core of the Commander's fleet, and the basis of the planned expansion. They had already selected the destination planet, and soon a skeleton military force would leave, and begin to build up, as a precautionary measure. The ended war with the CORE, and their resurgance shortly thereafter had left the ARM with a healthy respect for military necessity, and in every way, they deferred to the Commander who had brought them victory twice over.

Three Days Later, High Orbit, Barathrum:

6 ships appeared from a ripple in the void, 5 warships, and one small construction ship. Its holds are crammed full of material, and it has enough energy to operate its nanolathe for a time. Its first task is to begin building solar arrays around the planet, the first step in any colonization effort, and the first supply of energy that will give the forces the ability to fully control the planet while important infrastructure is built below. Colonists will start to come through the gates as soon as they are erected, primarily civilian construction K-bots, to build the housing and other necessary structures for the coming civilians.

The Commander's dropship lands, and construction begins. Vehicle and K-bot based construction units begin to knock up smaller ground bound solar arrays, and metal extractors to reach deep into the earth and pull out the minerals required to fully complete the new colony. The Commander himself set about building military barracks, K-bot Labs, Vehicle Plants, Aircraft Hangars, Hovercraft Factories, and everything else that comprised the ARM warmachine, as well as having the task of creating more storage facilities for energy and metal. The construction was well under way, and the fleet, such as it was, above the planet was there to ensure that nothing untoward happened to the units on the ground.

Buildings went up in incredible time, advanced construction units and factories were built, and the first fusion plant began construction. In space, the solar collectors were finished, and shipyards began building, these shipyards would build the system defense fleet and contribute to the Space navy as well. Hundreds of military units began to flood the planet, the basic skeleton of the planetary defenses. A galactic gate was the final building to knock up, allowing the civilians to flow through and build up the true colony. Dispersal was key to the ARM civilization at this point, they wanted as few civilians and as much military presence as possible in any one system. Construction ships would be built as soon as the shipyard finished, and begin to assimilate the asteroids in the outer system. The colony was growing at an incredible pace, and given time, it would rival the home colony for size.

Space rippled, suns exploded in the outter rims of a system unknown to any mortal being, a moon was destroyed by huge meterites crashing into it. And finally, the space around the system exploded outwards, and nothingness poured out into the material realm, and from the Nothingness, a huge black ship appeared, appearing to be unmoved as the tides of madness and unreality crashed against its side, screaming faces, leering voices, everything and nothing was smashing against the black ship of darkness, but it was unwavering in its advance toward the system with the Galactic gate located in it, any type of thing which used transportation through the Domain of the Star Gods shouldn't exist, for the mortals didn't know it, but the Galactic gates they used transported things from one place to another by use of the pathways of the Unreality Realm. Seeing its target nearby, it started to head towards it.

OOC: Not really migo. Mostly expansion and getting the nation established. And aparentlty a good old fashioned round of murder.

IC:

The single oncoming ship was easily detected. Turrets onboard the Millenium and her consorts swiveled towards the unknown vessel, and construction halted on the shipyards in orbit. Light defenses, mostly missile batteries that naolathed their own armament, could be knocked up in mere minutes, being the simplest of weapons in the ARM arsenal. The fleet was tiny, and possibly inadequate to the task of stopping this unknown vessel, and the defenses that could be scrabbled together in short time would thicken the vollies put out by the fleet if it came to that, and the missile batteries were part of planned construction in any case.

Unknown Vessel, you have violated ARM space. Identify yourselves and stand down all weapons systems. Failure to do so will be construed as hostile. Failure to communicatye will be construed as hostile. Any actions other than those described above will be construed as hostile, barring your immediate exit from this system. Hostility will be met with lethal force. System defenses and Fleet Elements will fire into your vessel if your course does not change within the next 5 minutes. You have 5 minutes from the reciept of this message to comply.

With the unknown ship being some 5 light minutes out, they had given the other vessel ten minutes. Ten minutes later, the enemy would still be well out of range of directed energy weapons, but the missile batteries that were under construction would have the range on them with ease, and with every passing minutes, more would be added to the assault if the fools did not stop and attempt to communicate.

(OOC: Tagged, Total Annihilation is a RTS classic and one of my favorite games. Do you consider it as after the ARM defeated the CORE or during the great war?)

Well after. Post Core Contingency as well. A few surprises will crop up due to the ARM experiences in the Great War and the Core Contingency.

The ship stopped in space, the inreality hole closing behind it. It floated there for a few seconds, a then opened up a communication with the fleet.
"Greetings, this is the Black Ship the The Hallowed Fist, we are from the Solar System, and we have been sent from Earth to hunt down a powerful rogue Psychcic in the area."

I am afraid he is not here. No living beings besides ourselves are on this planet. Leave. Search elsewhere. Any attempt at landing will be met with deadly force.

The construction ship hadn't stopped building missile batteries, and already the throw weight would be enough to annihilate the Millennium on its own. If the other ship continued to advance, it would meet with a hail of laser and missile fire, followed rapidly by the torpedoes and slugs the warships would send flashing downrange after their first vollies. They were paranoid. Peaceful visitors who accepted a bit of extra security would be treated handsomely, unknown ships that acyted arrogantly would meet with atomization.

OOC: I'm going to assuem the newb is gone already, because I don't feel like waiting for a week for one post.

IC:

The single completed shipyard cut on suddenly, working on building yet another construction ship. The disruption had put them behind schedule, and the combined efforts of the two ships would be much better at building the other two basic shipyards, as well as advanced shipyards and resource gathering stations. It was imperative to get the spaceborne capacity of the colony completed first, so that they could be secure against any threats from above, while their commander and military engineers built and readied the planet for habitation.
