A Vicious Misunderstanding (FT; Closed.)

The border world of Valea was important for many reasons to the Kelauan Dominion. It was the last one of this cluster, and this was the last pocket of Arl'skich resistance, it had plenty of minerals and natural gases required for the immense rebuilding of the Dominion, Navy, Army, and its people. It was also the farthest of the Dominions control, and it was vital that they begin colonizing and building up their defenses. So it was that for many reasons that three battle groups had been sent from the Dominion to crush the pitiful remnants of the Arl'skich fleet. Soon after they invaded, choosing not to even bother bombarding the planet since the Arl'skich had a small presence on this planet, mostly underground. To do so was to waste resources on terraforming. An invasion force was sent down, and with the course of a couple days, the planet was freed and added to the Dominion. After two weeks stay, the battlegroups were reassigned, leaving only a small border patrol to protect the place.

Construction and colonization had gone on apace while they had been gone, and things were looking quite well for the Dominion. They had a small shipyard/space port in the space above the planet, and two orbital defense platforms, complete with energy shielding, two heavy graser batteries, four missile pods, two railguns and four laser batteries. The planet had a small garrison of four hundred Marines; the Warbringers were too important to be used on border worlds. The patrol ship complement was rather small, but the Dominion wasn't planning on spreading itself too thin, especially with the recent business of aiding their Realm overlords. A single Guardian-class Destroyer (http://www.classic-space.com/plugins/autogallery/Gallery/BigShips/AFFfox-demoshot.jpg), two Shield-class Light Cruisers (http://www.classic-space.com/plugins/autogallery/Gallery/BigShips/concept_Vfrigate.jpg), and two Aggressor-class Frigates (http://www.classic-space.com/plugins/autogallery/Gallery/BigShips/pleh.jpg). Along with their complements of Firecat-class Fighter-Bombers (http://www.classic-space.com/plugins/autogallery/Gallery/BigShips/Ship_01a.jpg), and Phoenix-class Interceptors (http://eaw.heavengames.com/cpix/foc_units/underworld_fighter.jpg) They were commanded by Warleader Hartis, who was aboard the Destroyer Avenger. They patrolled the space with discipline and diligence in case the Arl'skich came to attack, which was looking to be less and less likely.

There was also the consideration that some new race may attack them, but the Dominion doubted that. If any chose to do so, however, they would simply meet the same fate as the Arl'skich: total extinction. The Dominion had become rather war-loving, developing a warrior culture. However, they knew that if they had managed to pull off the turnaround they had to the Arl'skich, others could do it to them. So, they had a policy of total extermination; if any attacked them, they were to be considered a threat to the Dominion and totally wiped out.

However, what they didn't know was that the Dominion now shared a border with the United Terran Federation, a race that was democratic in the extreme and had recently signed a treaty protecting sapient rights. If they had seen what they were doing with the Arl'skich, they'd be horrified. And to make the situation worse, they had their own eyes on the same planet.....
