General Overview

The Kingdom of Amfi is an oil rich nation, bounded to the east, west, and north by treacherous mountain terrain, while the southern region is moderately hilly. Country wide, the landscape varies from lowland woods to impassable valleys. A good comparison of Amfi’s terrain is to that of south-eastern Europe. There are only two main cities in Amfi, both with populations that fall short of one million. Most of the population lives in rural communities dotting the relatively virgin country side. The government, headed by the High Lord, is located in an isolated manor in the country side. Despite the homely nature this might suggest, it would be a good idea to note that a strict and brutal caste system is enforced throughout the country. There is zero tolerance for dissent, with the military assuming the role of police force. In the southern region of the country, where the bulk of the population is located, the government’s authority is absolute. In the northern regions, the Calep Nase Falasie Fagi - a rouge band of religious fanatics - enforces a brutally conservative interpretation of the nation’s religion. The government has turned a blind eye to the actions of the CFF, mainly because the CFF’s teachings fall in line with those of the government.

In the past decade, massive oil reserves have been found throughout the Kingdom. The government has begun surveying these reserves, and investigating the feasibility of implementing widespread drilling. Already, several drilling facilities have been established in the north. These wells supplement an already robust mining industry, which primarily extracts aluminum and platinum. Doubtlessly, the revenue from drilling will be used to overhaul the nation’s aging military and shore up the government’s power, that latter already being quite substantial.

General Information
The Kingdom of Amfi is a nation roughly the size of Saudi Arabia. In the northern region of Amfi are rugged mountain ranges and steep valleys. This region is completely rural, and has a population of about 43 million people. It contains several key industries, specifically mining and oil drilling. Other than oil, Amfi's chief material exports are aluminum and platinum. The southern region of the country is still relatively rural, but is home to the nation's two major population centers, Yulia and Sayef. The southern region of the country is also home to several immense oil deposits. Unfortunately, these deposits are several miles underground and shielded by thick layers of various rock types. Only recently has drilling technology been able to breach these deposits. The climate of Amfi can be described as temperate. The landscape is covered in dense woods and crossed with two large rivers. These rivers cross into Amfi in the south east and west points of the country, respectively. They come together and merge just outside Amfi's northern border, in effect etching out a large upside down "V" in the nation's landmass.

Yulia is the economic capital of Amfi. It has a population of approximately 789,000. Yulia National is the largest airport in the country, though most of its traffic is freight or military. Yulia is also home to the nations rail hub. Yulia Master Station services all passenger lines in south Amfi and all freight lines nationwide. Yulia has a small subway system that encircles the city. The city government building, Tuska Manor , is a six story mansion that is reminiscent of Victorian architecture. It is here the regional Lord and his family reside.

Sayef is a slightly smaller city of 700,000. It is serviced by a municipal airport and a relatively large rail depot. Sayef is considered the cultural center of Amfi. It is home to the largest observatory in the country as well as the nation's lone university. Many of the Kingdoms bureaucratic offices are located in Sayef. Approximately 45 miles to the east of Sayef is the Royal manor, where the Royal family rules. Access to the manor is highly restricted

The Badlands are the northern most region of the Kingdom of Amfi. These extremely rural areas have a minimal government presence. This region plays host to the CFF, a radical militia that enforces an extremist interpretation of Amfi’s religion. They and the government have little interaction, mostly because the CFF actually supplements the Kingdom’s authority. This region, roughly 208,000 square kilometers, has a population of about 2 million, dispersed throughout the regions many mountain ranges. The region's law enforcement amounts to less than a dozen small constabularies. The sum of the nation’s police force in this region is less than 2,000 personnel.

The Highland Mountain range in the North East is all but uninhabited. Its only population is several camps of miners extracting aluminum and other metals from the earth. These mines compose a substantial part of the Kingdoms income. They are lightly defended by the nation’s military police. Due to the inaccessibility of the mines, miners live on site. Many miners are slave laborers, while others are members of the Laborer caste, the lowest Strata in Amfi society.

Government
Strata
Understanding the social Strata system in Amfi is key to understand the government and society in the Kingdom. Strata is a social tier an individual occupies. This tier indicates the privileges and responsibilities of an individual. For example, individuals of the Laborer Strata, the second lowest Strata in Amfi. Individuals in this Strata cannot marry individuals outside their Strata, hold certain jobs, or have access to certain areas. In total, their are eleven Strata in Amfi. 5 of these Strata deal with nobility. The highest Strata is the nation is Strata Amfilious. To advance in the Strata is extremely difficult. The only surefire way to do so is to join the military as a career officer. For a civilian to advance in Strata, they must make their case to a member of the Noble Court of Elario, or to the High Lord himself.

Nobel Courts
Nobel Courts are groups of Houses of similar strata. For example, all of the members of Strata Amfilious form the Nobel Court of Alrisious. Noble courts hand bureaucratic administrative duties. For example, members of the Noble Court of Elario have been tasked with overseeing the Strata system in Amfi for countless generations. The High Lords have used the Nobel Courts in these capacities for generations. In theory, a High Lord could change the system completely, however, this is unlikely as the current method of governing has worked quite well thus far.

Houses
Houses are families of nobility. Family members are refereed to as Lords and Mistresses, respective of sex. Houses typically live together in a single manor. Houses are not terrible large. They typically consist of a Father, Mother, and their children. When a man seeks marriage, he marries into another House, and upon the death or incapacitation of a Senior Lord, assumes responsibility for the House. For Example, if a Senior Lord has two daughters and a son. His to daughters are eventually married, but his son remains single. Upon his death, the elder of the two husbands will assume control of the house. The unmarried son will only assume control if the other two men are incapacitated.
Houses can be stripped of their nobility by the High Lord.

Head of State
The Kingdom's Head of State is the High Lord. The High Lord is a member of the Nobel Court Alrisious, the highest Strata in Amfi. The High Lord is officially the only member of the Government who can write and sign laws. In practice however, this responsibility has almost always been delineated to the Nobel Charter, a assembly of Nobel Courts who convene on matters concerning the state. When it comes to the military, the High Lord does not have direct command over the Kingdoms armed forces, however, the manner in which the caste system in Amfi works lends the military to act in accordance with the High Lords will. At any time, the High Lord can dissolve any of the Nobel Courts that govern the country. The High Lord can also establish new courts, and induct citizens from lower social Strata into nobility. The High Lord is, officially, the only individual in Amfi who can change the position of a citizen in the nation's social Strata system. Like the ability to write laws, the High Lord has usually delineated this responsibility to other noblemen and women.

Noble Charter
The Noble Charter is a coalition of Noble Courts organized by the High Lord to act in a legislative capacity. The Noble Charter has managed Amfi law be de facto for untold generations, and there is no indication this will change. Five Courts make up the Charter; Alrisious, Bayituos, John Denverous, Lasicious, and Gathiway. Each Noble Court elects a single representative to the charter. The Charter legislates by consensus. Typically, the Charter draws upon various experts to help make decisions, though this is not always the case.

Provinces
There are three provinces in Amfi; the Northern Province, Southern Province, and the Highlands Province. Each province is overseen by individual Houses of the Strata Amfilious. These Houses are Woodrick, Gieger, and Hassler, respectively.

Judiciary
Amfi's legal system is managed of the KAMP, or Kingdom of Amfi Military Police. Officers, typically of the rank of Colonel, act as judges. They hold singular authority in legal proceedings. In legal proceedings, the right to a lawyer or habeas corpus does not exist. The rights of a defendant are decided on individual basis by the officer presiding over a hearing. Officers hold both judging and sentencing power.

Royal Command
Royal Command is the Command and Control organization for the Amfi Army. It is comprised of members of the Noble Court Egregium. Royal Command is covered in detail in the Military & Law Enforcement segment of this fact book. It should be noted that Royal Command has command over the nations Police Force.

Citizens Rights
Freedom is non-existent in Amfi. An individuals occupation and freedom of movement are completely reliant on their position in the Strata system. Freedom of worship does not exist. Citizens may either openly worships the one state sanctioned religion - Astrotheism - or not at all. Endless paperwork and red tape await any citizen who wants to change any aspect of their life.

Population & Culture
The Amfi people are a very religious population. They follow a religion that has deep roots in Astrology. Many people allow their faith to dictate their lives - that is when the government is not doing so. Most Amfi communities are organized around observatories. Along with spirituality, the people of Amfi have a strong work ethic. Men and women are expected to work equally to provide for not just their family, but their entire community. The indigent are looked down upon, though this is not much of a problem in Amfi as the homeless are typically arrested by the military police and forced into slavery.
All creative enterprise is strictly controlled by the state. Almost all Amfi literature that is published promotes sacrifice and obedience to the state, the virtue of spirituality, or the dangers of progressivism. There is a single televison station owned by the state, which operate between the hours of 5 and 8 PM, providing news for the masses. There are several radio stations in the country. Most are run by the state, spreading propaganda, but there are several pirate stations that offer a range of music and commentary. Amfi has no internet connections. The infrastructure need for widespread connection to the internet simply does not exist, while all computers must be licensed by the government and owned by businesses.
The people of Amfi are very communal. Most communities have frequent festivals and parties, monitored by the government, and host a range of programs such as youth sports and craft clubs. People are generally wary of outsiders but extremely genial with members of their community, regardless of how little people may know about each other. Generally, there is large degree of faith in the government in the southern regions of the country, which are relatively prosperous, but well hidden discontent in the resource rich North Amfi. Across the board, most citizens of Amfi believe in an isolationist foreign policy. Many believe the only contact with other nations be for the sole purpose of financial profit.

Royal Command

Royal Command is the highest link in the Kingdom of Amfi’s chain of command. Royal Command is comprised of nobility who have been raised to think strategically and methodically. For all intensive purposes, Royal Command is a lineal institution. Each position is passed down to from its previous holder to their descendant. In short, Royal Commands chief officer will pass his title, Supreme Commander, to his son.
Royal Command is comprised of five officers, each from five separate houses of nobility. Decisions are made through consensus. No one in the Kingdom of Amfi has the authority to override Royal Command. In the case all members of Royal Command are killed, command authority precedes downs the military chain of command, with the senior ranking officer assuming absolute authority of all military forces in the kingdom. The location of Royal Command’s headquarters is classified, though many believe that it is located at Forward Operating Base “Blue Claw,” which supposedly has hardened command structures deep below the earth’s surface.

KAA

The Kingdom of Amfi’s entire military is under the jurisdiction of the Army. Since the kingdom is land-locked, there is no need for an independent naval branch, while the air force is subservient to the military. This is due in part to the fact that the Kingdoms military command places a high priority on ground operations. The army is broken down into four commands; infantry and armor, the military police, logistical support, and the air forces.
o Infantry
o Military Police
o Armor & Vehicles
o Army Air Force

The KAA relies primarily on infantry. Of the KAA 800,000 personnel, 300,000 are dedicated to direct infantry combat. The KAA’s infantry is divided into 30 divisions, divided between 10 infantry bases throughout the country. At any one time, 50,000 infantry men are on active duty, and another 25,000 on active reserve. The KAA reserve infantry are not technically on active duty, but must be able to report for duty to their station within twelve hours if necessary. The KAA’s infantry divisions tend to put emphasis on combat in open terrain unsupported by armor. That said all infantry division does train with working in tandem with armor. Still, the infantry’s priority is to fight in open terrain, typically in a defensive capacity. As such, the firearm roster for the KAA is comprised of long ranged high power rifles and compact assault rifles. Anti-Tank weapons are also in large supply in the KAA, whereas SMGs and shotguns are very rare in the KAA’s ranks. The standard military weapon for a KAA infantry man is the FN FAL of the semi-automatic variety. KAA soldiers favor the stopping power, accuracy, and reliability of the FAL. Another common rifle is the newly ordered L85A2. These bull pup rifles are very accurate and fairly reliable. However, because of the average stopping power and the spotty service record of prior models, the L85A2 is not as popular or as common as the FAL. Enlisted infantrymen are not issued side arms. Officers however, are typically issued the Colt 1911. The stopping power and reliability make this gun a favorite.

A standard KAA infantryman is equipped to survive on his own for at least four weeks in a hostile environment. Survival training composes the bulk of basic training for KAA soldiers. Since infantry figure prominently in the defense of KA soil, soldiers are expected to carry on fighting on their own even if their unit, brigade, or even division is destroyed. Guerrilla warfare is the order of the day. KA infantry specialize in making quick strikes on enemy positions while operating from the wilderness. When fighting in organized, conventional warfare, KAA infantry prefer to forgoe entrenched positions and heavy fortifications. Instead, divisions use high speed, lightly armored vehicles to skirt enemy positions and engage in flanking maneuvers.

The KAA has several mechanized infantry divisions which are tasked with safeguarding armor in transit. Theses divisions are considered defensive in nature, as they’re role in combat is to safe guard vehicles from enemy infantry. When KAA armor enters an objective area, such as a city or industrial district, these divisions will secure the surrounding area, while letting the armor do most of the fighting. These mechanized infantry are complemented by an armor division’s infantry complement.

Special Forces Operations are not precisely the KAA’s forte. The KAA has single unit of what might be considered SpecOps. This unit is a detachment of the 201st Reconnaissance Division. This unit is tasked with operating behind enemy lines. Members of this unit, 212 Special Operations Detachment, are the only soldiers in the KAA qualified for airborne operations. They train annually for aerial operations, using aircraft from the 301st Medium Lift Squadron. The specialty of the 212 is disrupting enemy logistical capabilities –light strikes of supply convoys, assassinations of front line officers, etc – and force reconnaissance.

The KAA military police are an integral part of Amfi society. Not only is this 150,000 strong police force guard most military facilities, the military police of the KAA also act as the general police force for the entire country! The Military Police has the most diverse selection of roles in the entire KAA; guarding military bases, keeping the peace, marinating static air defense, and operating the nation’s correctional system.

The KAMP is responsible for the protection of all military facilities. For this task, the KAMP is delegated approximately 20,000 soldiers, both active duty and reserve. KAMP security forces man guard towers, checkpoints, etc.
The KAMP’s most important role however is acting as the nation’s police force. 75,000 KAMP soldiers are stationed throughout the country, mostly in the south. Most of these soldiers are stationed in rural areas. That being said, there is substantial KAMP in Sayef and Yulia. Between the two, there are 16,000 KAMP officers performing a law enforcement role.

The KAMP is also tasked with manning all static air defenses in the Kingdom. This means the air defenses of cities and military bases are protected by SAM and AAA batteries manned by KAMP soldiers. Typically, KAMP air defenses grids focus heavily on AAA defenses. The KAMP employ a wide variety of cannons in the caliber range of 20-30 mm. SAM’s and their radar complement are valued assets, and are used to supplement the Kingdom’s air defense. The most common SAM in the entire KAA is the MIM-23 HAWK, a common NATO interceptor. All mobile anti-air systems are commanded by front-line forces.

In the KAA, Armor is primarily an offensive weapon to be used in large scale counter attacks or border skirmishes. As such, the KAA poses very few MBTs. However, the KAA has an impressive array of light tanks and infantry fighting vehicles. While most of the KAAs artillery complement is fixed pieces, the Kingdom’s army possesses several self propelled artillery pieces as well.

The KAA operates a significant quantity of helicopters. Royal Command places a high value on its helicopters, and sees them as a valuable defensive asset. They can be used to rearrange defenses fluidly, or disrupt enemy logistic support in surprise attacks. Because of the premium Royal command places on helicopters, it is now surprise then that the KAA is actively seeking to supplement its aging helicopter fleet with more modern aircraft.

KAAF

The Kingdom of Amfi Army Air Force is divided into General Command, Fighter Command, Bomber Command, and Support Command. General Command exercises complete tactical control over all other commands. General Command is located out of Abisayl manor, the command and control center for the Amfi military. Fighter Command is comprised of seven squadrons made up of F4 Phantoms, F-104 Starfighters, F-102 Delta Daggers, F-20 Freedom Fighters, and F-5 Tigers. In total, the Amfi Army Air Force has approximately 90 fighters. Two staff squadrons comprise the logistical backbone of Fighter Command, which are stationed at Yulia National Airport, along with the 3rd Fighter Squadron. Bomber Command is comprised of ten squadrons. The bulk of bomber commands fleet is made up of OV-10 Broncos, which form seven squadrons. Other aircraft in Bomber Command’s inventory include KA-1000 Concords (Modified F-86s) and KA-450 Dukes (Modified F-5s). Bomber Commands staff is divided into three staff squadrons, which are scattered around the country. Support Command includes logistics and non-combat support squadrons. Support Command is comprised of three heavy lift squadrons, one medium lift squadron, one personnel transport squadron, two battlefield support squadrons, and two training squadrons. Support Command’s staff comprises this commands lone staff squadron, which is housed on the top floor of the Kadesh Hotel in Yulia.

General Command is made up of about 100 service personnel, all officers. At the top of the army air force chain of command is a Major General. He and his five man staff are tasked with ensuring every squadron is at maximum operational efficiency, and that the orders of his superiors at Royal Command are executed to the letter. Currently this position is held by Major General Marcus O’Reilly.

Fighter Command, as mentioned earlier, is headquartered at Yulia National Airport. The three runway facility can house any of the aircraft operated by the Army Air Corp, the largest of which is the C-130. There are three different kinds of fighter squadrons in the KAAF; Air Superiority, Interceptor, and Tactical Fighter. The KAAFs lone air superiority squadron, the Sky Foxes, is garrisoned at Yulia National. Their role is to provide constant airborne security to the skies of Amfi. Interceptor squadrons are intended to respond to threats as the materialize, while tactical squadrons fill perform both the roles of air superiority and ground support.

Bomber Command also has three squadron types. Ground Force Support squadrons operate OV-10 Broncos and operate in concert with ground forces. GFS squadrons act as coordinators and light weapon support for ground forces. The Strategic bombing squadron is tasked with eliminating moderately defended infrastructure targets, while the tactical strike squadrons can perform the role of strategic strike and provide limited on demand ground support.

The squadrons of support command are mostly dedicated to moving freight and personnel. However, the battlefield support squadrons of Support Command are intended to drop supplies and, occasionally, personnel onto the battlefield.

Indigenous Aircraft

F-20KA
The F-20KA is a modified version of the Northrop F-20 Tiger Shark. During the 80s, Royal Command began searching for a replacement aircraft for the KAAF’s aging F-5s and F-4s. Specifically, the KAA wanted an aircraft that could provide undeniable superiority throughout Amfi airspace. Royal Command investigated a variety of aircraft. Eventually, Royal command narrowed its choices down to the SAAB Vigen and the F-20. Royal Command settled on the newer F20, but only after negotiating several design changes with Northrop. The redesigned aircraft, designated KA, removed on of the F-20s 20 mm cannons and moved the remaining cannon aft, into the starboard wing root. In their place went a APG-65 radar, the same type used in F/A-18As. This provided the F-20 with improved range when using radar guided missiles. In addition, the F-20KA added under wing hard points in favor of four recessed miss stores in the fuselage. This allows to the F-20 to fill ground support and air combat roles simultaneously. However, the extra wing hard points are usually used for infrared air to air missiles. The F-20KA is somewhat heavier than its original design, and as such has a slightly reduced thrust to weight ration. Otherwise, the F-20KA performance is identical to that of the original F-20, making it a comparable aircraft to many fourth generation fighters. Unfortunately, the F-20KA program never got past the first production batch, due to budget shortfalls and legal problems with Northrop.

OV-10KA
The OV-10KA is an in-house upgrade of the OV-10 Bronco. The KA variant adds a low powered radar dome under the midsection of the aircraft, allowing the OV-10KA to use variants of the AGM-114 Hellfire Missile. The radar dome replaces the four .50 caliber machine guns, and OV-10KA can only carry two missiles. Because of its shortcomings, only one squadron was outfitted with the KA upgrades.

KA-1000
After reviewing the success of PAF F-86s in a bombing role during the Indo-Pakistan war, Royal Command initiated an inquiry into obtaining a fighter bomber aircraft. The KA-1000 is an in-house reconstruction of the F-86 Sabre. After obtaining 4 second-hand Sabres, Royal Iterations redesigned the Sabres wings into a semi delta wing. Like the MiG-21, the KA-1000 retains its elevator. Royal Iterations also replaced the Sabre’s J47-GE-27 turbojet with its own TBJ-C-5J, which is 35% more powerful than the Sabres original engine. The two wing pylons dedicated to fuel tanks were re-tasked to carry ordinance. On top of this another set of pylons were added. In total, the KA-1000 can carry an additional 4,000 pounds of ordinance. The KA-1000 has a sluggish turn rate compared to the original Sabre, but has a much superior climb rate, able to climb at 10,250 ft per min with ordinance. As time has past, the KA-1000 has become increasingly obsolete in the fighter role, however, when targeting key infrastructure such as bridges or rail lines, the K-1000 still proves to be an effective weapon.

KA-450
The KA-450 is a radically redesigned F-5, tooled to a air-to-ground roll. Like the KA-1000 the KA-450’s wings were completely redesigned. Unlike the KA-1000, however, the 450 was designed as a true delta wing. Its air intakes and wings were extended several feet forward; bringing them up to the leading edge of the cockpit. The tail was also redesigned; it has been elongated giving it a substantially larger surface area than its original counterpart. Its rudder was also enlarged. Unlike the KA-1000, the 450 did not add hard points to the added wing surface. Instead an internal weapons bay was added. This bay can carry up to 2,000 pounds of ordinance. Typically, the 450 carries 4 250 lbs bombs or 2 1000 pound bombs, but special ribs can be installed to allow the 460 to fire rockets. Also, the 450 moved the F-5s two 20 mm cannons into each wing root. In the nose is an air-to-ground radar (RIKA-VAR/23) that allows the KA-450 to carry AGM-114 Hellfire missiles. The KA-450 can carry three of these weapons, however, the quality of the KA-450’s radar – designed by Royal Iteration – leaves much to be desired. In ideal conditions, a pilot can expect a hit/miss ratio of 1/2. The performance of the K-450 is actually superior to that of the F-5. Rate of turn and rate of climb is equal to that of any 3rd generation fighter, and many 4th generation fighters as well. Because of its performance, Royal Command looked into the possibility of redesigning all available F-5s in their arsenal. This idea was abandoned when projected cost became to steep. It was also considered that the KA-450s be further retooled to allow radar guided missiles to be stored in the KA-450s internal weapons bay and that the KA-450s be integrated into fighter command for use in Tactical Fighter Squadrons. This idea was also nixed, as Royal Command wanted to push the KA-450s air-to-ground capabilities to their limits.
