Claudia woke up at 5:00 AM as usual. She got out of the bed and walked to the window, opened the curtains and looked to the ocean. The sun was rising. After taking a shower and getting dressed she went into the kitchen, where her cat, Schröder, was sleeping on the table. She made coffee and sandwiches for breakfast, after which she fed her cat and left her apartment. The taxi was already waiting.

"The Julius Heide International Airport, please." Claudia said to the driver.
"No luggage?"
"It's been taken care of. Just get me to the airport."
"Certainly, madam."

The drive took nearly 2 hours in the morning traffic. When the taxi finally arrived at the international depatures terminal, Claudia lit a cigarette and inhaled enjoyingly. Having smoked her cigarette, Claudia went inside and to the check-in. Everything went normally at the airport, even the plane was on time. After the 12 hour flight the plane arrived in Neo-Ixania.

Arnold Ackermann had fallen in love with Claudia zu Gernstein; he told himself that too many times ever since he had left Meadonia; he hoped that he would be able to see her again ever since he left Meadonia. Dressed for the occassion, he was waiting at the international airport in Tzargrad for her plane to arrive; he had a good itinerary of activities for them. When he saw her plane land on the runway, a smile came upon his face; he knew that Claudia had arrived. Walking towards her, he smiled at her. "Welcome to Neo-Ixania, Claudia. It is a pleasure to meet you."

Leading her to the limosuine waiting for them, Arnold helped her inside. "I have a complete itinerary for us; you will be staying at my house instead of a hotel room. You did say that I could live in your house until the embassy opens when I go to Pro Patria Puritania; I decided to let you stay in mine. I live in an apartment; but I am considering moving to a house."

As the chauffer drove the limosuine into the city, Arnold smiled. "First, I will take you to my apartment and get you settled in and then we will visit some landmarks in the city. My apartment has a good view of the city; you should like it. Also, you will have your own room."

"My own room? I thought we were way past sleeping in different beds." Claudia replied to Arnold. She felt the same way about Arnold as he did about her, but wasn't sure about his feelings. She looked out of the limousine's window and the architechture seemed strange to her.

"I did not know if you would want to sleep in my room; you can isleep in my room with me if you want, Claudia. I was going to ask you about it, to be honest with you. Anywho, I hope it is not an impediment to your enjoyment of your vacation here."

After several minutes, Arnold smiled at her. "Claudia, I want you to enjoy your stay here; we can start your vacation with a tour of my apartment. I am sure you will like it. After you get settled down, we can visit several places in the city of Tzargrad."

"No, ofcourse it won't be an impediment." Claudia smiled back at Arnold. "I'm sure I'll like it, too. Any chance we could get something to eat before touring the city? The airline food was horrible."

"Before we tour the city; we can visit one of the cafes. You should know that we will be going to a restaurant for dinner so I hope you brought a good formal dress."

"Yeah, I did bring one. Speaking of which, what's the food here like?"

"Ixanian cuisine is a mix of everything really; in its normal form it is a mixture of heavy and light. Some food here is from German cuisine because of the German settlers who came to Neo-Ixania; other foods that you will find come from other cultures. But, as I say, it just depends on your preference."

When the limosuine arrived at Arnold's apartment, Arnold helped Claudia out and walked with her inside to his suite; which contained all the luxuries one could want and which was fully furnished. He gave her a quick tour of the apartment; showing her where the bedroom and bathroom were. "Feel free to look around. After you get settled in, we can go to the cafe. You can watch some television, read one of my magazines or whatever you want.....just tell me what you want to do."

Arnold smiled at Claudia; studying her with his eyes and wondering if she loved him. If she did, his life would be set. A good paying job combined with a good home and a beautiful wife....what else could he want?

Claudia chose the TV, as she was eager to see Neo-Ixania's popular culture and to compare it with that of Pro Patria Puritania.

Arnold watched Claudia watching some shows on the television and smiled before he took a seat beside her. "Do you like Ixanian television, Claudia? How does it compare to Pro Patria Puritanian television?"

"It's... strange. Don't people here have respect for authority? In my country the people who made this show would have been sent to slavery."

"They say that the freedom of speech allows them to poke fun at the government; though support for the absolute monarchy has always been high. The Empress has not had a long reign but she is already liked and respected by many people. By the way, are you ready to go to the cafe?"

"Hm, what a strange country. But yeah, I'm ready to go to the cafe, I'm starving." Claudia said and smiled at Arnold.

Arnold smiled as he walked with Claudia out of the apartment; towards the car that was waiting for them. "I think we could go to the beach today if you want, Claudia. We can spend the entire day in the city and then go home for a good night."

After they got into the vehicle, the chauffer began driving to the cafe. Arnold sat next to Claudia and smiled. "Do you know when it would be possible for me to movie to Pro Patria Puritania?"

"Well, I suppose you could move right now if you want to. The embassy isn't even close to being finished though, the slaves have been rioting lately."

"Would it be possible to stay in your apartment until it is finished? I think you said that I could during the summit in Meadonia; when I first laid my eyes upon you." Arnold smiled and felt himself looking into her eyes. "I am glad that I am able to see you again."

"Yeah, ofcourse you could stay there. My place is a bit too big for just one person anyway." Claudia looked back into Arnold's eyes. "It's good to see you too, it's been too long.", she said and moved her lips close to Arnold's.

Arnold smiled before he took Claudia into his arms; giving her a kiss that lasted for a few minutes. After he finished, he was still holding her close to him and he still had a smile on his face. "Are you in the mood for a meeting, Claudia?"

Claudia sighed. After a while she replied "No, not here. Maybe after we've eaten?"

Arnold tried to sense if he made Claudia annoyed by what he said. "After we've eaten, we can have a meeting if you want. Speaking of eating, let's go to the cafe now."

After several minutes, they had arrived at one of the city's cafes and had ordered their food. "I hope you like your food, Claudia. I have been here before and the food is quite nice to have as a snack during the day."

Claudia wasn't annoyed by Arnold's suggestion, quite the opposite. As they sat down, she lit a cigarette. "I hope you don't mind." After inhaling, she continued "Yeah, the food is great, especially after that horrible airline food."

"I do not mind, Claudia."

Arnold smiled after he ate some of his food. "I am glad to hear that you like the food. After we are finished here, would you like to go back to my apartment or begin our tour of the city?"

Claudia smiled back at Arnold before tasting a dumpling which she'd never seen before. "I'm not sure, the meeting you suggested sounds rather interesting, but if we do that I don't think we'll be able to finish the tour before dinner... So I guess we should begin the tour."

"We can begin the tour and then have our meeting if you want, Claudia. I was thinking that we could begin our tour by exploring the city. What do you think of places such as museums?"

"As long as it isn't modern 'art', a museum is fine by me."

"We could visit a museum filled with historical artefacts. Would that be acceptable?"

Claudia inhaled for the last time before putting her cigarette out and took a mint before replying to Arnold. "Sounds interesting, history is a passion of mine."

"Yeah, I am.. Shall we get going?"

"Excellent; we can visit the National History Museum after we are finished here. Are you finished eating, Claudia?"

As the two walked past the paitings on the walls, Claudia stopped in front of a portrait she found interesting. "Who's this?"

"Yeah, I am.. Shall we get going?"

Arnold smiled and led Claudia back to the vehicle; it took them a while to get to the National History Museum. Leading Claudia inside, Arnold took her to one of the many exhibits; a gallery of famous paintings and portraits. "These were made in past centuries, Claudia. I thought this would be a nice exhibit to show you first."

As the two walked past the paitings on the walls, Claudia stopped in front of a portrait she found interesting. "Who's this?"

Arnold smiled. "I believe this is Emperor Nicholas II, one of the current Empress' ancestors. He was one of the successful monarchs of our nation and there is a street named after him in Tzargrad. The current Empress has paternal descent from him, I believe."

"Huh? 'One of the successful monarchs'? Your country has had ones who weren't successful?"

"I meant to say "famous monarch", Claudia. He was one of our famous monarchs; he helped strengthen the economy during his reign for example."

Arnold led Claudia to the next exhibit; a collection of suits of armor and weapons from the Medieval Era. "After this, we can see some military flags and banners from the 1800s."

Claudia closely studied the suits of armor and said "Arnold, these resemble the armor the Serpent Guard used during the medieval times, are these the suits of armor of some religious group?"

Arnold examined the suits of armor for several minutes. "I believe that some groups had their own distinct designs for their suits of armor. Knights, for example, could decorate theirs with emblems and the like; yes, Ixania has a tradition of chivalry. These suits belong to a group of knights who were famous for swearing absolute loyalty to the Ixanian nation. To many back then and to some today, Ixania is the Motherland; they treat the nation as a mother figure."

Arnold smiled. "Even those who have no Ixanian blood in them; like me, can take pride in being an Ixanian citizen. Our nation is fully developed, we have a strong economy and we have a good life. People may have criticisms but at least we are better than many other nations in this world."

Leading Claudia to the next exhibit, he pointed out the military banners; explaining the significance of each one. "Lions are often seen as a symbol of Ixanians; because the lion, to some, reflects upon our people's resolve. We may be neutral and friendly but we can, if the need arises, defend our nation. Soldiers, I believe, swear to defend Ixania until the last drop of blood."

Claudia listened to Arnold's presentation with a small grin on her face. "Well, if our countries anything in common, it's the strong economy and the soldiers' dedication. Tell me, has your country ever been in a major war?"

"Our nation has not really been in a major war; we prefer to be neutral in all foreign conflicts; basically we are non-interventionists. We focus primarily on national defense; when an enemy comes we will be prepared to cut them down. You will find that patriotism is quite influential in people's lives here. However, we do not mind dealing with foreigners; I am sure we have many foreign tourists who come here and we have plenty of friends and allies around the world; we are members of the Fegosian Union as well."

Arnold smiled. "Ixanians are generally neutral in foreign conflicts and friendly towards others. The Empress, Anastasia II, wants to make plenty of friends; her policies are generally aligned with those of her deceased father. I think she looks up to him and many people have expressed support for him since he helped develop our nation's economy; making it into a powerhouse when he reigned."

"Patriotism is a major part of our culture, too, which I'm sure you'll notice when you move to my country." Claudia thought if she should tell Arnold about the history of her own country, which was rather bloody, as she didn't want to sound too patriotic. After a minute, she decided to tell him. "Unfortunately we haven't been as luck as your country has. The first major conflict took place during the Christian crusades. Our neighbour, Ganos Lao, invaded. With the Serpent Guard as the only military force back then, the crusade nearly led to the fall of the empire. Also expansionist wars were fought. And by the looks of it, we'll have to go to war with our neighbour again."

Arnold listened silently and attentively to Claudia; it was always nice, he thought, to listen to her speak; regardless of what she was telling him. As he listened to her, a thought came into his mind about the surprise he had planned for her. He could imagine himself...with her...the candles...the roses..

After Claudia finished talking, Arnold smiled at her. "I must say that your nation has been significantly shaped by war but it is good to know that your nation's people have put effort into defending their nation from its enemies; I am assuming that Ganos Lao was a supporter of the Crusaders; those soldiers who fought under the Cross. As for moving to your nation, I look forward to moving there....though I'm really glad that it will be with you."

Arnold led Claudia through the remainder of the museum; still thinking about the surprise he had for Claudia. Being in her prescence made him glad; and he wondered if she loved him; he would declare his love for her in the night, he had already decided that he would.

Leaving the museum, Arnold offered to take Claudia's hand. "Do you want to see more of the city, Claudia? We can see some more if you want before dinner...I'll let you decide what we do."

"Yeah, unfortunately war has always played a major role in our history. But, we're not warlike." As Arnold led her out of the museum and offered her his hand, Claudia placed her hand in it. "I'd love to go for a swim, if it isn't too much trouble."

"I can take you to the aquatic center that is attached to my apartment; I am sure you will be able to swim to your satisfaction there. Some apartments, etc have such facilities for tenants; I believe they are usually only for tenants to use though. Mostly, people go to aquatic centers or other similar places."

When they arrived at the apartment, Arnold led Claudia back to his suite to get her swimsuit. "I must say that you have a nice body, Claudia. Tell me, do you work out?"

Claudia blushed slightly at Arnold's comment, as apart from the occasional gestures from teenagers, she wasn't used to hearing them. "Uhh.. Thanks, you're not so bad yourself. I don't work out much apart from swimming; I go swimming in the ocean whenever I can."

After finally finding her swimsuit among her other belongings, Claudia followed Arnold to aquatic center.

Arnold smiled. "I work out on some days; usually to pass the time but I do have pride in the fact that I am healthy." As Claudia was looking for her swimsuit, Arnold decided to find his; he found his swimsuit in a few minutes.

When they arrived at the aquatic center; it looked like they were the only people there; a couple of elderly people were just preparing to leave. Arnold smiled at Claudia before they went into the changing rooms. When Arnold came out, Claudia could see his toned chest and muscles; he had the look of a muscular bodyguard. Arnold smiled at Claudia; showing her the hot tub, sauna and the pool. "Feel free to go to any of them; enjoy yourself!"

Arnold got into the pool and looked at Claudia with a smile; he studied her with his eyes and thought that she looked nice in her swimsuit.

Claudia admired Arnold's good figure for a moment before diving into the pool, emerging close to Arnold. She then put her arms around him and kissed him passionately (sp?).

Arnold smiled before they continued for several minutes; he was holding Claudia close to him. "Claudia....I want to ask you something....do you have any feelings for me?"

Claudia hesitated a little, as she didn't want to reveal her love for Arnold just yet. "Yeah, I've got strong feelings for you."

"I have strong feelings for you too, Claudia." Arnold gave her another kiss and smiled; still holding her. "Do you want to...." he began to ask. "...want to have a meeting?"

Arnold smiled. "Do you want to have the meeting right here? Our first...aquatic meeting?" He held her close to him and began to lean in for a kiss.

"This place is as good as any." Claudia then leaned closer, and their lips came together.

After a while the 'meeting' was over, Claudia still in Arnold's arms. "Should we pop in to the sauna for a while?"

"If you want to, we can." Arnold said before he got out of the pool; pointing to the sauna's entrance.

Before going into the sauna, Claudia took her swimsuit off. After spending about an hour inside, she took a quick shower. "I think we should get going, if I'm not mistaken this place is going to close soon."

Arnold smiled at Claudia; studying her as she walked into the sauna. "This place does not close until late at night, I believe. However, I think we should leave for dinner. We can get changed before we leave."

"I cannot tell you that."

A greeter welcomed them and took them to a private room; one that was filled with roses, luxuries and musicians. The entire room had an aura of romance and Claudia could sense it. Arnold smiled and helped her sit down at the table. "I wanted to surprise you with all of this, Claudia. That is why I said I could not tell you about it earlier."

As waiters brought out the appetizers, Arnold smiled at Claudia and focused his eyes on her face; the smile on his face seemed to be in a permanent position. "Claudia, you should know that my feelings for you blossom like the flowers of Spring, they are as strong as the hearts of courageous soldiers." Arnold felt the urge to declare his love for her; but decided to wait until later to tell her.

Claudia was clearly overwhelmed by Arnold's surprise and the trouble he had gone through to please her. "This is just... I'm speechless." she said before Arnold helped her to her seat.

Claudia smiled back at Arnold. "I really can't find the right words to express my feelings for you."

"I am glad that I am able to hear such words from you, Claudia. As for my feelings for you, there are three words which can express my feelings for you: I love you. Claudia, I am madly in love with you and it would make me a happy man if you reciprocate the love. Claudia, my love for you is absolute; I swear to be loyal to you and only you alone."

"I love you too, Arnold." Claudia then leaned over the table to kiss Arnold.

Arnold leaned in and gave Claudia a kiss. "I am glad to hear that you love me, Claudia. You have made me a happy man."

After the romantic dinner, Claudia was ready to go to bed, and maybe have another 'meeting' with Arnold. "Have you planned anything else for us to do tonight?"

"I was thinking that we could see the nightlife of the city together; though if you want to return to my apartment, I can take you there."

After enjoying delicious food, red wine and a nice musicial composition, Arnold took Claudia on a tour of the city at night; showing her all the places people visit during the night. Lights of all kinds were turned on and some people were laughing, some were cheering and a few were holding hands as they walked under the lights. They found the nightclub several minutes later; a bouncer stood outside. Being government officials, the bouncer was reluctant to refuse Arnold and Claudia entry. Inside, they could hear techno music, see people cheering and dancing and some people crowding around the bartender while talking about sports. Arnold pointed to the dancing floor. "If you were not exhausted; I'd ask you to dance."

He took a seat at the bar and beckoned Claudia to him with a smile. The bartender smiled at Claudia as he was cleaning his glasses; he always liked seeing people because good business meant he'd get a salary. "What would you like, madam?" The bartender asked courteously while making Arnold a glass of German beer.

Claudia sat next to Arnold and chuckled. "Then it's a good thing I'm exhausted, I'm a terrible dancer."

Claudia watced the bartender make a beer for Arnold, wondering if they had a drink similiar to a popular drink in her country called 'Dora's Embrace', a sweet mix of vodka, strawberry cider and orange juice, named after the Princess. Eventually she decided to go with apple cider. "I'll have an apple cider, please."

Claudia sat next to Arnold and chuckled. "Then it's a good thing I'm exhausted, I'm a terrible dancer."

Claudia watced the bartender make a beer for Arnold, wondering if they had a drink similiar to a popular drink in her country called 'Dora's Embrace', a sweet mix of vodka, strawberry cider and orange juice, named after the Princess. Eventually she decided to go with apple cider. "I'll have an apple cider, please."

The bartender nodded his head before making Claudia an apple cider; after a few minutes he served it to her along with Arnold's beer. As Arnold took a sip of his beer, the bartender was serving the other guests with quick efficiency; making sure that everyone had what they wanted. "Claudia, when you want to leave, just tell me. I was thinking that we could watch a movie together tonight at my apartment...though if you want to do something, I am open to hearing it."

He took another sip of his beer and smiled at Claudia as he waited to hear her response.

"We could go now, if you want to."

Arnold led his guest back to the limosuine; which took them swiftly to his apartment. Already, the moon was firmly in its position over the city; with all sorts of lights up and actively bringing light to people still outside. At the apartment, Arnold smiled. "What shall we do now?"

Claudia sat down on the couch. "You did mention a movie."

"Yes; I did. Tell me, what genre of movies is your favorite? Which ones do you watch in particular? I have some movies here but I was hoping to find one that you would enjoy watching."

Arnold found his collection of movies and began examining them; thinking about what Claudia could be interested in.

"I prefer slasher films but anything is fine as long as I'm going to watch it with you."

"Slasher films? Well, I have one of those actually; a friend gave it to me." He took out a DVD movie that had a gruesome cover on it; depicting a man with a bloody knife and terrified people cowering in fear. "At Death's Door may have been made several years ago but it is still liked by people; as reviewers on the internet have told me."

Claudia read through the back cover and recognized a few of the actors by name as some of them had made a good name for themselves in her country as well. "Let's see if the internet is right then."

Arnold smiled at Claudia before he put the movie in. As the movie began, Arnold took his seat next to Claudia and wondered if she'd hold him close to her as they watched the movie together. He put his arm around her and smiled.

Claudia curled up close to Arnold. Soon the movie began. It was what one would expect from a slasher film: a big guy in a hockey mask stabbing drunk teenagers, with the star of the movie eventually 'killing' the murderer and/or escaping barely alive.

"The movie was fun. What should we do now?"

"This movie was made by the famous director, Nicholas Sarbanes; he had connections to the aristocracy through blood, you know. His horror films, according to many, were actually scary and not just some crappy one hour litany of bloodshed and lament. Sure, there were both of those in them, but Nicholas knew how to use them well. At Death's Door made him famous as the Master of Ixanian Horror."

Arnold took out the movie and put it away in the shelf as he spoke. "Ixanian horror focuses not only on the physical but also on the mental; it shows us how people are forced to confront their fears, confront the demons of the mind. Horror, in the eyes of an Ixanian, is not just some madman running rampant with a bloodsoaked knife...it is also about the anquish that we all suffer. As for what to do now...I suppose we could just spend time together; I'd love to do that."

He rarely came up, so there was little desire for his cult members to want to reside there. Basically Seker is what Christians call Satan... Arnold changed into his pajamas, etc before walking into his bedroom. As he was adjusting his pillow, he began to think about Claudia. He was truly happy to know that she loved him.

Claudia gave Arnold good night's kiss. "Good night, Arnold" She fell asleep almost instantly after putting her head on the pillow.

Claudia woke up while Arnold was still asleep. She went into the kitchen to make coffee. While the coffee was dripping she went to the balcony and lit a cigarette. After she was done with the cigarette, she went back inside and started making breakfast for two, as it was considered a woman's duty to prepare meals in her country.
