Fantasy Nations, I summon you! (OOC Interest Thread)
Rather simple, and probably overdone. But I was wondering who had a fantasy nation, PT preferably. Swords, magic, shields, great kingdoms, that kind of stuff. I merely wish to know as I am constructing a fantasy nation myself, (evil undead kind of thing), and want to know who actually rps this so I can get rolling once I am done.
So, feel free to come in, say hi, discuss, and whatnot. Just keep it on topic, and don't rip out each other's throats. Thank you.

If you are looking for an undead type, I really recommend a nation of Dhampirs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dhampir) and Slavic Vampires (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire_folklore#Slavic) for a change from the typical D&D or Warhammer 40k Necrons copy&paste Undead nation.
I'm saying this because I really hate Mary Sues and Tolkienesque clichés.
Soviet Steam is not exactly a Fantasy NS, more of a Steampunk commie nation in a Dark Fantasy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_fantasy) world, so there are repeating rifles, gatling guns and all sorts of gadgets from "Science!" in a steampunk setting. But there is also lots of Slavic mythology included on like Baba Yagas, Dhampirs, Vampires and Kashchey the Deathless rather than -insert generic female elf in chainmail bikini here-.
All non-human sentiences are spirits rather than made of flesh and bones, so no Orcs, Dwarfs, Elves and alike do exist in Soviet Steam or surrounding continent, and they hate magic with a passion to the point there is a secret police to make witch hunts.
I drew lots of inspirations from the "Technology vs. Magic" from Arcanum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcanum:_Of_Steamworks_and_Magick_Obscura), one of my favorite roleplaying games, but I decided to use a non western European mythology as basis for the fantasy part.
So basically there are steam-powered airships shooting 5-pounder cannons and maxim guns against multi-headed dragons, one of them called Змей Горыныч(Zmey Gorynych) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:%D0%97%D0%BC%D0%B5%D0%B9_%D0%93%D0%BE%D1%80%D1%8B%D0%BD%D1%8B%D1%87.jpg) rather than a typical fantasy dragon name, while steam tanks based on the first WW1 tanks and on some weird Russian tank prototypes compete with all sorts of magical beasts on the ground.
And lastly, but not least, they use a series of tubes to transmit messages among themselves.
I do RP fantasy but not extensively. I'm more into the RPs where you pick a couple characters and RP them.
Well, while I thank you for the advice SS, I am not comfortable, nor do I think I could rp well or correctly a vampire nation. I'm going for heavy magic here, lots of undead, liches, death knights, that sort of thing. I'm drawing more from Warcraft than D&D in that respect, as well as a game called Total Annihilation Kingdoms, if any of you know of that game. Mostly I just wanted to see if anyone is in Fantasy and see if they're available.
As for you Orbath, depending on how I start out, I may have a couple rps where it is only characters, and any army action is controlled by me.
I'm interested, sounds like fun. My characters are actually mostly my creation, drawing slightly from the fantasy books and movies I've seen. I'm actually never played Warcraft or DD. I tend to stick more to living characters but I don't have a problem RPing with undead characters.
I do, though I haven't set up a factbook (all of the info is either on my computer or in my head) or had many true kingdom RPs. Mostly its just character RPs taking place in someone's land.
ill like to join as a Large empire mixed with humans and elves and dwarfs and several other creatures

I don't have a fantasy nation, but I have a fantasy character. For me, the characters are divorced from the nations.
From my point of view, too many players are in love with their characters--that is to say, there are so many fantasy characters that are Invincible Knights or Invincible Sorcerers that it makes it difficult for me to play my character, who has been set up specifically to make it difficult for me to godmod, alongside them. I also often make my fantasy character the butt of pieces of slapstick humor. His trademark phrase, in fact, is
"OH SH--!" BOOM!
I have a second character that I like to use in sci-fi settings who was originally developed as a vampire hunter, for a (failed) novel that I was attempting to write. I also have developed a new type of vampire.
I'll be willing to do what I can to help.

Does sound like fun. I was thinking of creating a puppet fantasy nation. Give me a heads up if you end up doing something.
Orbath: Oh, there'll be plenty of living characters to interact with. Although my main part of my fantasy nation is going to be my undead nation, I'm feeling like rping the rise of such a nation amongst the splendor of Humans, Elves, and Dwarves, and the ravages of Orcs, Lizardmen, and Shades....
DMG: Sounds interesting; I'd like either, kingdom rps or character rps.
Angaor: That'd be fine, just don't godmod and go over the edge with it.
DS: I'd like to rp with you, you have me interested already. While some of the important characters are powerful, they have reason to be as they are essentially the ones that move the plot and are part of key scenes. Course, a lot of them are going to die in the future, so its all good. ^^
Sarrow: Can't say the full name. I will be doing something once I have made the kingdoms, my main nation (or remnant as its going to be in the beginning), and the deities, magic, etc etc.
Note, if anyone wants to start something, I can easily join. I won't be anything massive, as I am still developing stuff.

So Angaor, we gonna get that Crusades thread you promised any time soon? ;)
I have a fantasy culture that I've developed over the years for other purposes, but I dunno if I would make the leap of transferring them over as a full PT nation... I think I'd be more likely to just default to them if I happened to be in the mood to join a fantasy RP. Their culture is so isolationist that they wouldn't make for very good politics or diplomacy. XD
I usually stick to smaller fantasy RP's, but my normal nation has some inconsequential little things thrown in it, such as ALL my past and present heads of state being hybrid vampires. Not the awsome death vampires of ultimate destruction, but more like the ones from Underworld that use guns because they tend to work well...
O yeah im getting to start ethier tonight or tommorow depending on if my girlfriend does bother tonight

I've been very interested in rp a PT nation, though I can't decide between a Sumerian look or a tribal one. Anywho, I think a fantasy earth would be really great, so we could unite our histories. We could allow for Steampunk by setting it in the antediluvian world, the time of Atlantis, Lemuria, Mu, and Ultima Thule for our undead friends.
Sound good?
I really don't care what I do, as long as it doesn't interfere with my nation; I do have an excuse for my nation to be able to get to other places of existence anyways. *shrugs*
Also, I aside from Atlantis, I know none of what you just mentioned.
I play a bug-people nation, but rather than being hive-minded they have more of a semi-open chase system. You might want somthing like that; take something over done then add a huge twist.

Thats all I gotta say.
Just don't turn your undead nation Future Tech like ever, or I'll have to come down on you like a ton of bricks! Only reason why I haven't actually gotten anything done on the issue of Icecrown Glaciar is because that nation's player seems to have NS-related dementia. The threads always died on me. :p
But why would Ermor attack other undead nations?
The Ashen Empire of Ermor does not like competition.

I tried to organise something with Deatharon, but he's really too busy to do anything, so I might as well make myself known that I have decided on a nation. That of some sort of emerging Quasi-Mummy nation with signifigant living populations.
The history? The nation has had an thousand year hiatus due to a smattering of unrest, civil war, natural disaster and so on, with the only remaining civilised peoples being quite a distance underground in pyramids.
Now, don't worry, it's not quite a necron clone, since these are people who still believe themselves to be alive to a degree. The first guy, a certain Ruril, picked up a book on necromancy and thought that Lichdom augmented with some extra stuff would be a good idea. Not really. Esspecially when that sort of thing is punished with forced burial.
Think neutral dead rather than evil dead.

I used to have a race of Elves that I RPed with. Then I stopped for some reason, I'd like to get started with them again but...
Jagaro: I know, I am. Although I will be heavily inspired by Warcraft, I will be drawing inspirations from other sources as well.
Emerika: No, I don't want to. Personally, I thought IG was a good rper, but I don't like the idea of Warcraft in space, especially the Undead. They were designed for a Fantasy world, not a Future Tech one. So, you don't have to worry about that. If you want to enter with some Fantasy nation, thats fine by me.
Weccanfield: Sounds interesting. I'm up for stuff, if you want to do anything.
Alversia: If you want to get into them again, I have a nation being worked on.

Sooo...we gonna rp?
Well, I don't know what you meant by placing it in the world with Atlantis and all that, mind explaining it for me?
Cause, I am working on my own mythos and whatnot right now.
The Tabor

Well, some of the interested nations were more technology oriented. Some more fantasy based. If we put the setting for an rp as the "antediluvian" world, meaning "before the flood," we could allow for technology never seen before and perhaps not very possible, while still allowing for all manner of mythical creatures and magic.
A world similar to this one (http://www.bal-sagoth.freeserve.co.uk/pictures/lmap2.jpg)
Before the Flood, as in the flood that God caused?
The Tabor
29-02-2008, 04:11
Yes, the "flood" that many civilizations refer to.
And whose to say it was the Christian god?
Well, the problem is, in my nation has its own mythos. As in how the universe was created, gods, the whole nine yards.

Yar. S'me, Telros. I'm thinking that I'd be a magocracy, if you were going to create a fantasy world and whatnot. (Assuming this goes offsite, I guess). I've always wanted a dystopian country in which the most powerful mages rule, law kept by little more than a brute show of strength, where oppression and magic go hand-in-hand.
'cause that's how it'd work, you gotta admit.

As opposed to my liberalist, egalitarian society of Wood Elves? :p
I'm confused, this is a sign-up for a thread or just a gathering of Fantasy RPers?
I can quite easily do both. I can have some stuff here, if people refer. And if anyone wants an off-site, I can make one in a jiffy.

One planet a la LOTR is easier to handle in my experience

Well, technically, Ermor is a fantasy nation as well. I just skipped a whole ton of time because some guy (Der Angst :p) wanted to see zombies in spaaaaace, and I wasn't completely against it.
I could take part in fantasy roleplays with Ermorian characters as they have and know the maaagic of teleportation, but not with absolutely humongous Ermorian legions, I guess... Or hell, I guess I could bring them too, because what stops them from having gotten more undead back in the day to refill the lands before they actually went to the stars.

MM, good to see a fellow TA fan out there. I might be boned; but then again, they were nearly boned when dealing with Taros, and my nation is going to be worse than Taros.
Emerika, I don't mind massive legions too much. As long as the normal rules of rp are followed and you let me know what you want to do with them, that is fine by me.
And one planet would be easier to control.

And lastly, but not least, they use a series of tubes to transmit messages among themselves.
Story goes that, one day in the late 1800's, a couple of real Republican types got together and decided to make a big scene.
They bought two old steam engines, fixed 'em up just enough to make 'em work (FOR NOW), put 'em on opposite ends of a small track, and cranked the steam valves so that they'd run right into each other.
They sold tickets.
They say that one of those six-foot-diameter iron wheels from one of those locomotives got thrown a whole mile away in the ensuing steam explosion.
For the spectators, survival was semi-optional. ;)
Steam tanks are fun. I just hope that not too many of your characters had to learn what the Soviets did: to the driver, it's a power system; to the opposition, it's a bomb just waiting to be used for its happy little purpose. :) :) :)
And I thought my character's trademark phrase was "OH SH--!" BOOM! Wow. You win!
