video feed: The revered crown prince Poo of Dalaam, with the legendary Sword of Kings strapped to his back, climbs a rough rope to a rather narrow ledge, which he then perches on.

He sits there in a meditative trance for a moment, then opens his eyes. "Hello world." he says.
"I, Crown Prince Poo of the beautiful country of Dalaam, feel it is time for my nation to join the rest of the world. We have been in seclusion for thousands of years, ever since the first Dalaamese monks, with only a supply of Delisauce to sustain them, made their way up the rather steep slopes of our mountain kingdom, and discovered the first secrets of Mu. Now, I feel it is time for that seclusion to come to an end, so the world can partake of our wisdom, and so we may partake of the world's."

"So, we dropped a ladder. To be honest, we're not entirely sure whose down there at this point. Whoever you are, Dalaam extends it's hand in friendship."

"We are a humble and spiritual people, and because of our isolation, some of our customs will likely seem very odd to you. As yours will assuredly to us. It is my hope that will not stand in our way. we welcome you to our beautiful kingdom, and hope that a greater strength is forged by our bond."

((OOC note, this is modern and open to just about everyone, so long as they are willing to accept some earthbound silliness, like psionics and a kid with a sword who can probably take on a tank.))

OOC: You're talking to a nation with a heir apparent who could pretty much pass for Ness. Oh, and psionics is PMT at best, not MT. Still, you're not the only Earthbound fanatic here! :D

IC:

"So some nation called Dalaam has opened relations. Interesting." Empress Katrina Masaki, Lady of All She Surveys, noted as she read the latest intelligence reports from Earth. She then reached for her phone. "Oy! Get someone down there and get to Dalaam!"

*Slam!* Beep...Beep...beep...

Some time later (could be hours, could be centuries, but probably hours) a diplomat with the uncanny name of Picky Minch was sent forth to establish relations to Dalaam, taking one of the island continent of Coredia's many globetrotting helicopters. Hopefully, they could find Dalaam before the fuel runs out...

((PMT? what exactly is that supposed to be?

Also, I'm kind of hoping someone will volunteer to be under Dalaam, where the ladder could fall, but if no one is, I'll just make Dalaam a ridiculously steep island.

Also, I'm going with the assumption that the map up there is just one face of the mountain, and that there are a lot more people on the other sides.))

The mountain of Dalaam raised up at perhaps a 75 degree angle at it's base, gradually steepening as it rose and rose, poking eventually through a large cloud that was... was it pink?

The cloud obscured everything above it, except an incredibly long rope ladder that hung down from it, falling all the way to the base of the mountain.

OOC: PMT is post-modern. Somewhere between modern and future. I know Earthbound is set in the present, but some things could be set in PMT, like the alien invasion and even the psychics themselves.

The pilot started noticing a very steep island with pink clouds obscuring the summit. "Pink? Who ever heard of pink clouds?"

"Hmm. I don't see any civilization. Circle around the island." Picky ordered.

"As ordered." The pilot began circling around and it didn't take long for them to spot the long rope ladder.

Picky wondered about the rope ladder and decided to take a risk. "Oy! Get me close to that rope ladder! I'm going to try and jump on that thing!"

"What? You crazy? What if you miss?"

Picky grinned. "I won't! I'm a former parajumper, after all!"

"Ahh! You crazy military types!" The pilot spat, shaking his head. "All right!"

The helicopter began to fly close to the rope ladder, but not so close that the blades would cut it. Picky opened the side door, letting the wind rush into the cockpit and gulped at the long drop. Then he jumped, yelled, reached out and grabbed something that felt like rope. Looking up, he saw that he succeeded and began climbing, waving the helicopter away. It was a very, very long climb and by the time he reached the top of the clouds, he was exhausted...

the ladder lead up into the cloud, where Picky was surrounded by pink mists, the breathing in of which made him feel slightly relaxed and giddy. Upon emerging from the cloud a few minutes later, the cliff's edge above him came within sight. When a few minutes later he had reached it, he began to hear soft, and rather beautiful, flute music from above. When finally he extended a hand above the cliff's edge, the music stopped, and the hand of a young woman reached down to grab his arm and help him up.

She was wearing traditional Dalaamese clothing, a loose fitting red dress that looked somewhat similer to both a Kimono and a poncho, and had bright red hair and a dazzling smile. "well, you're the first foreigner to climb up the ladder. Welcome to Dalaam. Prince Poo asked me to watch for anyone coming up, and, well, I couldn't say no to him..." she giggles and blushes slightly.

(OOC: I'm an alt-tech nation - steampunk - but I think our nations are compatible. Almost had your ladder drop on someone's head, but I'm new here so I thought I'd better leave that to someone better established. Love your intro, by the way.)

Chardin was not having the best day. As one of the high ambassadors of Pwnanation, it was his job to establish relations with other nations of the world, and he wasn't getting very far. He had placed calls to 43 nations today alone, and only two had responded. One had been with a resounding "no", and the other had promised some sort of possible alliance sometime in the could-be foreseeable future, once they located their errant president and got the regular affairs of state in order. With a sigh, he walked out of his office and locked it behind him. Slipping the heavy brass key back into his tunic, he strode down the corridors of Castle Grumward towards the courtyard.

He stepped outside into the failing evening light and gazed up at the stars. The air was sharp with the gasoline smell of the newly ignited auto-sconces rimming the courtyard, and he sighed pensively. As he stood there, he began to hear an unfamiliar hum. Slowly, it grew louder, becoming a buzz and then eventually the unmistakable whup-whup-whup of a helicopter.

What the deuce? he wondered. Pwnanation aircraft did not normally fly this close to the castle.

But as quickly as it had come, it was gone, vanishing as it disappeared in the distance off the coast to the southwest. Southwest, hm. All his forays so far had been to the north and east; he had very little idea what countries lay in that direction. He stared after it a moment, then made up his mind. On a hunch, he walked back to his office and dialed the Roflcopter Air Command.

"General Munch," came the dry, uninterested reply.

"Yes, uh sir? This is Ambassador Chardin," Chardin answered. "A helicopter just flew over Castle Grumword, heading southwest. Can you tell me what it was?"

"It was a helicopter," the general answered, still sounding bored. "But if you mean 'what was it doing flying over your castle'? It was probably heading out to investigate the AE -- anomalous event."

"Anomalous event?" Chardin was intrigued now.

"A ladder just fell from the PK -- thats the Pink Cloud -- accompanied by a message of international good faith and opening of relations from some hitherto unknown nation called Dalaam. Seems they want to join the international scene."

Chardin felt his hopes rise. "Is that so?" he mused. "Well! General, I want you to get a chopper or a plane or a darned hot air balloon over here pronto with orders to go right to this pink cloud area, and to take me with it! We're going to greet our new neighbors!" A grin split his face from ear to ear now; this was exciting!

"Harrumph," came the noncommittal reply. "All right then," he said at last, "as you wish, m'lord. A steam jet will arrive within the hour. See that you're ready for it."

Chardin hung up the receiver and hurried from the room, an excited bounce in his step that had been sorely lacking just ten minutes ago. 25 minutes later he was dressed in his finest ambassadorial attire and seated in the steam jet Blaster, hurtling towards the AE in the PK to meet the Dalaamians. Or Dalaamites. Or whoever they were.

At that moment, Picky felt odd and slightly giddy from breathing in all that pink mist. Maybe he lacked air? "Thanks, miss. Uh, is he waiting or something?"

"Oh, he's up at the palace." she says, as she points upward towards the path. from his vantage point, Picky can see four small golden domes and one larger poking up from the side of yet another cliff.

"and let me welcome you to Dalaam. I hope you enjoy your stay." and with that, she picks her wooden flute up from the grass and sits down again.

"Thanks." Picky smiled and began heading up the path. He was secretly glad that he was fit, unlike his obese elder brother.

((ooc: can you guve me a rough description of the steam jet?))
Pwnanation

The steam jet is a small contraption of brass, wood, and even a bit of tough canvas. It is roughly 65 feet long with a down-turned wingspan of 45 feet (about the size of American F-15 jets). A large wooden propeller spins crazily on the nose, and two barrel-shaped jets roar on either wing near the body. Three elaborate brass fins, each about 8 feet tall, sit at 30 degree angles from one another at the rear of the contraption, providing decoration and precision trajectory adjustment. The pilot and co-pilot or passenger ride in a glass bubble casing which closes over both of them long-ways and latches at the top. The jet is not normally used for matters of state, but in this case, the general sent it specifically because of it's speed and agility.

IC:
Finally, after what seems like hours, Picky Minch, ranking member of the Coredian Diplomatic Corps, finally reached the majestic palace of Crown Prince Poo of Dalaam (don't laugh, I hear he has powers beyond mortal men!). Even exhausted, he was awed at the beautiful palace and wondered who the architect was.
