The Armed Republic's Foreign Service is seeking responses from governments around the world to determine the likely response to certain common diplomatic situations. Please respond in good faith, as this Poll will shape foreign policy considerations.

The Government of Vojvodina-Nihon demands a multiple choice poll. What if we want to do more than one of these things? We have also issued a declaration to the effect that your nation consists largely of epic fail, lololol, and fully intend to post a picture of a cat with a caption attached should our demands not be met.

The Armed Republic of Catawaba
An Official Communication from the Secretary for Foriegn Affairs, Lolimba Bevu
A Position Statement Regarding the Security of Catawaban Diplomats and Consulates
It will always be the intent of the Catawaban government to protect its citizens and diplomats abroad. Even if our consulates are not legally considered soveriegn Catawaban soil by the home country, we will consider our diplomatic compounds to be like our homes and protect them as such. Any attempt to harm our citizens or unlawfully enter the premises of our diplomatic missions will be met not with appeasement but with lethal force.
We consider the establishment of dipolmatic ties and the gift of the services of our diplomats to be a high honor, a trust between our nations. Any abuse of that trust will not be allowed. Should any nation or faction kidnap our diplomats or citizens for use as hostages that nation or faction shall be considered hostile to Catawaban government and the Catawaban people. Full release of our citizens is the only offer we will tolerate and the only demand we will make. Military action will be the next course of action should our demand be refused.
From the heart,
Lolimba Bevu
Secretary for Foriegn Affairs

IC:
The Rogue Nation of Slaytanicca will not tolerate harm or infringment of rights of its diplomats, its citizens or the citizens of allies or neutral states. Any prior concern can be resolved peacefully, and any nation using tactics of terror or force will be countered with extreme prejudice.
OOC: Definately both of the first two. For an important diplomat I'd likely send multiple independent teams in secret, as well as negotiating. Slaytanicca doesn't have to tell you that, though ; )

Re: Your request
At this time, the Armed Republic is only interested in the most likely first response to such an action, in order to gague what will most likely be an accecptable reaction from the international community, along with the way the international community would most likely respond in kind.
Please note that, should you follow through with your threat of a kitten picture, you will be met with option 6.

The Policy of The Freehold is too seek a diplomatic resolution to all disputes before military action is undertaken (OOC: We'll try and talk it out, but an MEU will position itself off the nearest coast and will launch a full extraction operation if things start going downhill.)

OOC: My nations Government probably would not even bother replying to this. But I'll give you the OOC low down.
If the power that just did it is a stronger, equivalent, or even somewhat weaker power, my nation will either negotiate or just issue a one line statement condemning the action and leave the personnel there to their fate.
If it is a moderately-weaker power, we will probably try to negotiate, but leave somewhat-subtle hints that if the negotiations fail, we the nation in question will have its population's fate of being subjected to a full-scale military invasion.
Finally, if the nation is a significantly weaker power(IE: founded June '07 or later(as of Today)), my nation will in the vast majority of the time use the seizure as a casus belli and promptly invade. What the goals of the invasion may be vary. To be certain, the motive will not be to find the ambassador, although that will be used as the excuse and his and the embassies staff return will most definantly be demanded to be returned in the peace negotiations(if there are ones).
With that in mind, I voted for case 5.

[OOC: Since I'm not in the mood to put an in-character response, the way current foreign policy would respond is with conversation and if they are solidly rigid, cue the special forces...]
Corbournne

OOC: Depending on the size of the country taking the hostages, Corbournne would most likely threaten war, and, if the hostages are not returned, declare war. Pretend I put this in IC format, if you want.
First option is always diplomacy. When that fails, or takes exceedingly long in the case of smaller nations, it's usually taken as a casus belli.

If it's a weaker or equal-strength nation, and the Nationalists or another right-wing party are in power, the Free Republic is likely to issue stern warnings or even threats against the offending power, and use its intel assets to attempt a rescue, finding where they're being held if that's a problem.
If it's a significantly stronger nation and/or a left-wing party is in power, allies will usually be contacted through secured channels for diplomatic support with the aim of rescuing the hostages. Force is a last resort in this case.

OOC: I do International Relations and RP Clandonia in a very Realist or English School way when conducting foreign policy, English School is a nice go between because it recognises alliances and stuff.

I like the idea of Launching a covert operation to rescue your personnel, looks kool, good for national moral, might piss off a couple of nations but heyho who gives a damm!!! also makes the Special Forces look real good so good for military recruitment.

I'd try to talk them into sending my people back home but I wouldn't make any concessions, that sets a dangerous precedent and makes your other diplomats and expatriots across the world even more vulnerable to other kidnap attempts. If the talks failed I'd go for the military option- send in the paras, if the chances of succes are deembed likely and if they actually know where to go and get this diplomat. If you can arrest their diplomats on you territiry then do so.
There is the option of just ignoring them and then if they do slice his head off they're the bad guys. Remeber the kidnappers will probably be doing this for publicity for their cause.
