Short History

The Grand Duchy of Thrashia, as it came to be known, is a collective of former nation-states that were joined either through diplomatic or military means under the aristocracy of Thrashia which arrived with military and economical forces to impose rule over them.

After this seizure of territory the Thrashian Empire became disinterested in the affairs of the Grand Duchy, which by order of the Emperor was given to the dynastic Leto family, and it was left bereft of any aid from the Empire. As such it became an autonomous state within itself. The dukes who ruled came to rule in their own name instead of the Emperors.

Thus far the Grand Duchy has only taken over through military means its original bounds, that being the former nation-state known as Lithuania. Through diplomatic means and promises of an economic free market it added to its territory the areas of Slovakia and Kaliningrad.

Territory

Lithuania
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/maps/lh-map.gif

This is the heartland of the Grand Duchy, its original starting territory. When it became clear that the Duchy was on its own and could expect absolutely no support from the mainland of the Empire, the Duke Hälter Leto created several reforms within the Duchy. The first was a free market system assuring the fair regulation of market prices and a basis for strong industrial niches by which the growth of heavy industry could come about. His aims were achieved in his son’s life time when the Duchy’s main income and steady growing industry was automobile manufacture, weapons manufacture, and textiles. The province of Lithuania is the main industrial powerhouse of the Duchy.

Some 37,000,000 people live in this province. Its governor is Count Gerard Franz, cousin to the Duke. He is well liked by the people of his province and is known to be a very benevolent man. His provincial capital is the same as the Duchy’s, Vilnius.

Slovakia

Accepted into the Duchy through diplomatic persuasion and the chance to enter a more beneficial economic alliance, the nation-state of Slovakia joined the Duchy in 1993. Not only beneficial to Slovakia itself, the Duchy gained desperately needed natural resources that it had before the acceptance of Slovakia been imported at stiff prices.

The provincial governor is Count Alexander Mellenthin who is favoured by the people of Slovakia as being “one of their own” in the sense that he guaranteed and kept his political promises, seeing to it that the province received every concession and benefit that all other provinces of the Duchy receive.

Roughly 22,000,000 of the Duchy’s population lives in Slovakia under Duchy rule. The provincial capital is at Bratislava.

Kaliningrad

http://www.balticuniv.uu.se/atlas/russia/KaliningradLD.gif

The province of Kaliningrad is the most recent addition to the Duchy. It, like Slovakia, was joined through diplomatic persuasion and the desire to be in a strong economic union that the Duchy promised. It joined officially in 1995. The acceptance of Kaliningrad gave the Duchy access to one of the largest and most developed ports in the Baltic Sea. Trade through the city is continually increasing as more government investment is made into the city.

It’s provincial capital is it’s namesake, Kaliningrad. The governor, Count Donavan Richterhoff, was elected to his position through a popular vote.

Military

Because the Duchy was founded by Thrashia, its military is based on the Empire’s. All equipment and training comes from the Thrashian model. While not large or especially populous compared to its neighbors, the Thrashian military keeps a standing army during peace time of some 200,000 combat effectives and 400,000 for supply and support.

Army

Combat Effectives: 120,000
Support: 230,000

The Duchies Army is the pride of its Armed Forces. Its allocated the greatest number of men and resources, making it very strong. Each province also has a Provincial Guard which is under the direct command of their respective governors and their numbers vary from province to province.

Air Force

Combat Effectives: 60,000
Support: 120,000

The Thrashian Air Force is There are 12 combat air groups, each containing 5,000 personnel. Each air group varies in its equipment and vehicle type, some being focused on anti-air work, being made up of ground based ballistic units. Others are devoted to the perfection of fighter-to-fighter combat, and others to a mix-and-match in training.

Navy

Combat Effectives: 20,000
Support: 50,000

Because of the majority of the Duchies land being land-locked and its main focus being ground forces, its Navy had to therefore operate within a tight budget and limited support. It also had to achieve enough power to protect its merchant marine fleet and interests. As such the majority of the Navy is submersible craft, with only limited surface craft.

Infantry
Infantry Regular (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b184/Upum/Modern%20Tech%20Thrashia/imp_soldier.jpg)
The most common and therefore numerous infantry type of the Thrashian Imperial Army is the Army Regular. Each is given 3 months of training before active duty and service. Equipment includes: assault rifle, ssw (.50 cal and lower), grenades, flak armor, and stahl type 80 helmets. Other equipment includes mortars, portable anti-tank cannon, and land mines.
Infantry Grenadier (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b184/Upum/Modern%20Tech%20Thrashia/artnodsoldier2.jpg)
The Grenadiers are specialized infantry who are trained to fight armored vehicles and tanks. Usually attached to armored units or at times formed into kill squads for anti-tank work these are some of the toughest soldiers in the Imperial Army. Each has gone through Regular training and then specialist training. They are equipped with the newest in anti-tank shoulder mounted rockets, RPGs, anti-tank rifles, and all equipment usually given to Regulars. Grenadiers are also cross trained in engineering for field work purposes.
Infantry Scout Recon (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b184/Upum/Modern%20Tech%20Thrashia/874328.jpg)
Scout Recon troops are recruited from among the Grenadiers and the Regulars. Prerequisites are that applicants must have combat experience. Recon troops are trained in sniper shooting, stealth, and above all infiltration, allowing them to do their main objective of gathering intelligence. While very good at disrupting infantry of any enemy formation, faced against armor the scout recon troops have little to use.

Order of Battle

[Army]:

An Army consists of one or more Korps, plus any attached or independent units or formations, units in reserve, and its own organic units. Armies serve at the strategic level, not at the tactical. An Army has between 60,000 and 100,000 men within its ranks.

[Korps]:

A Korps contains one or more Divisions, plus any attached or independent units or formations, units in reserve, and its own organic units. Korps serve at the strategic/operational level, directing the actions of mainly Divisional sized units, as well as those independent battalions that are attached temporarily to the Korps or that are organic to it. A Korps has between 40,000 and 60,000 men within its ranks.

[Division]:
A Division varies in size, with most containing between 1 and 4 Regiments, plus any attached or independent units or formations, and its own organic units. Divisions served at the operational level, both in combat and as the operational HQ for the Regiments and attached units and formations of the Division. A Division has between 10,000 and 20,000 men within its ranks.

:

Brigade sized units served either as independent units, as an organic part of a specific Division, or sometimes as an organic part of a Korps in place of a Division. Many Divisions consists of one or two Brigades, each consisting of a number of Regiments along with the usual attached and organic units. Brigades serve mostly at the operational/tactical level. A Brigade has between 5000 and 7000 men within its ranks.

[Regiment]:

Regiments consist of a number of battalions, along with any attached units or formations, and its own organic units. Regiments serve mainly at the tactical level. A Regiment has between 2000 and 6000 men within its ranks.

[Battalion]:

A Battalion consists of a number of Companies, sometimes also with other attached units or formations. These units served at the tactical level directly engaging in combat. The Battalion is the smallest self-contained and self-sufficient combat formation. It is armed and manned to be fully able to maintain itself in combat without the support of other units. Any unit below the level of a battalion usually does not have enough offensive or defensive firepower and support elements (mountain, anti-tank, Artillery, MGs, etc), to maintain itself in a combat situation. A Battalion organization has between 500 and 1000 men within its ranks.

[Company]:

A Company consists of a number of Platoons. Company serve at the tactical level. A Company has between 100 and 200 men within its ranks.

[Platoon]:

A Platoon consisted of a number of Squads. The platoon served at the tactical level. A platoon has between 30 and 40 men within its ranks.

[Squad]:

The smallest sub-unit in the Thrashian military, usually a component of a Platoon.

[Battlegroup]:

The Battlegroup is an often used Thrashian combat formation that doesn't really have an equal in other international military organization, being closest in concept to that of a task force. A Battlegroup ranges in size from a Korps to a Battalion or Company in size. Most Battlegroup are usually around a Battalion in size. The Battlegroup is essentially an ad-hoc organization of different arms (Some tanks, a few artillery pieces, infantry, some assault boats, a few anti-tank guns, etc), more-or-less organized temporarily for a specific operational task. These tasks could be short term or long term in nature, and they were often organized quickly in accordance with tactical and strategic situation at hand. Battlegroup are usually named after the person chosen to command the formation.

Panzer Brigade Info

A Panzer Brigade consists of three armored regiments.

Each panzer regiment has a Communication/Command Platoon of 3 tanks, making up the Regimental Staff. Under it are three companies, each headed by a Company Staff Platoon of 5 tanks, consisting of four platoons of 5 tanks each. This brings the operational strength of each Panzer Regiment to 73 MBTs. Accompanying each regiment is an Mechanized Engineer/Pioneer Battalion for repairs, bridging, mine clearing, and other miscellaneous tasks that the regiment may need.

Within a Thrashian Panzer Division there are two Heavy Tank Regiments, consisting of the above, and a third regiment of Light, built on the same model as above. This in turn makes up a brigade, added with a brigade staff.

OOC: I see that your forces are going to have a logistical nightmare keeping all those different types of vehicles maintained, armed and ready for combat. What you should do is standardize your stuff. I'll give you a few hints if you don't mind.

One type of tank, not four different types of tanks like you have. No more than two types of armored infantry combat vehicles, preferably one APC-type and one IFV-type. Replace the M113s and ASLAVs, because quite frankly they both suck when it comes to NS (E2 is no exception) and will serve only to get your troops killed in a hurry - it's not like you have that many to spare anyway. One type of self-propelled howitzer.

Why do you have both the Tornado and its replacement the Typhoon? Why both NATO tech and Russian? Ditch the Su-25 and replace with the A-10 if you're determined to have a CAS aircraft - it's not really needed unless you intend to do some invading of your own. Ditch the F-44 completely, as it's a DMG design, which are the most wanked and unrealistic designs you can find in NS, and will be swiftly ignored as wank by any serious RPer. Go to a more respected storefront instead and find yourself some aircraft. I recommend Questers' ADEN (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=541629) or the Imperial Aerospace Corporation Storefront (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=533908) if you're interested in some high-quality aircraft.

However, what you need to ask yourself before throwing in a lot of stuff in your ORBAT is this: What is my doctrine and national policy going to be? If it's going to be homeland defense, do I need thousands of tanks? Do I need attack helicopters? Do I need five different kinds of infantrymen? Question everything before aquiring it, because with the limited amount of personnel you have available, and the insane amounts of maintenance most modern military equipment needs, you've got to think seriously about your logistical and economical challenges. For instance, it takes around twenty men to keep one fighter operational and ready to go into combat. More for more sophisticated aircraft such as AWACS, bombers, et cetera. Your tanks and other armored vehicles will need to have a depot available for service and important thurrough maintenance. Your men have to be fed and housed, so you'll need cooks, quartermasters and other base maintenance personnel.

My suggestion to you is to think through what you really need for your military. Organize your units into effective fighting forces, and give them the support functions they need to operate properly. Don't organize any forces above Corps-level, as you simply don't have the forces to operate Armies or Army Groups. If I were you, I'd concentrate my forces in independent brigades, focused around mechanized infantry with armored and artillery assets organic to it, and with organic support units such as Combat Support units, engineers and medics. Your tactics should be concentrated on homeland defense and not power projection abroad, because I'm going to be brutally honest with you: You'll get crushed. I'd personally go with the Macabees-made designs (the Nakil tank, the Corbulo self-propelled howitzer) because those are quality designs, albeit maintenance-heavy. Get some decent APCs and IFVs at a storefront, but stay well away from DMG's shit, because it is just that: shit.

Your air force should be concentrated on multirole aircraft with some air superiority fighters, which should be used for interceptor duties. Your primary focus should be on multirole fighters though. Get yourself an AWACS design and tactical transport aircraft. The Hercules is a good choice for this, as they are going to be the workhorses of your air force, hauling supplies and personnel to and from the various bases and parts of your country. Have some utility helicopters for utility work, but for the love of God, get rid of the DMG-made aircraft!

Oh, and you should ditch the different types of infantry. Two or max three is sufficient: Infantry, Paratrooper/Ranger, and Special Forces. At this point in time, you shouldn't need paratroopers as you have no one you can challenge without getting your ass handed to you, so make it easier for your military and concentrate only on one type of infantry.

I could go on and on, but it's 2:23 AM and I'm tired, so I'll stop here for now. Just, get rid of all the DMG-made shit in your arsenals (including the small-arms), get some proper organization and equipment, and rid your arsenals of all that superflous equipment. It'll streamline your military, make your logistics and accountant guys a lot happier, it'll make training your men easier (BTW you don't need a year to train excellent infantrymen - the RL Norwegian Army gets the job done in 8 weeks, and the US Marines in 12), and it'll make you a vastly more effective fighting force in the battlefield, which combined with good tactics may just lead to you prevailing when the battle is completed.

Fixed a bunch of the stuff you mentioned. I'm still not done with it, so bear with me on that. I made a clear designation on the standard equipment used by my infantry and also showed the number of tanks/AFVs that I have, as well as cleaning that section up. The Spartan, if you didn't know, is a IFV and is my predominantly used for mechanized units. I plan to write up a clear composition of my divisions and other organic units.
