The core of the Dontgonearthere Imperial Army consists of just under one million men, primarily equipped with standard muskets in the .69 calibur. Trained to fire 3-4 rounds per minute, the average DGNT soldier is capable of an average rate of fire, although typically with poor accuracy. Far more emphasis is placed on bayonette practice, and massed bayonette charges are the favored tactic.
The main bulk of the army is the reserve units, which can be mobilized very rapidly in the event of war.

The average soldier of the Imperial Army is viewed as brave, stubborn, occasionally drunk and not overly creative. Typically these soldiers will simply stand their ground against all odds if no orders are forth coming. Strict discipline, the old army maxim of 'Take three, beat two to death and train one' holds strong in the Imperial Army, pride, and competitive spirit often combine to prevent officers from taking any action which is not viewed as a 'sure thing'. Only a select few generals are 'risk takers' in any sense of the word. The same can be applied to the officer corps.

Opposite this, the Imperial Guard Corps consists of some of the best trained and equipped troops in the world. Recieving large amounts of funding, these troops are regarded as utterly fearless and recieve the best of everything, including officers.

The Empire is famous for having some of the strongest artillery in the world, its gun crews are trained to perfection on some of the finest artillery in the world. As a result of this, funding to the rest of the army often suffers somewhat, and equipment shortages are common.

The main weakness of the Army is its somewhat lacklustre cavalry. While well trained and equipped, especially the Guard, they lack something of the 'polish' and 'kick' associated with most other nations cavalry corps. outside of the ferocious Cossacks, the Empire's cavalry is sub-standard at best.

Men between sixteen and fourty five are eligable for conscription in the event of war. The term of conscription is ten years, although it is being shortened to two years active service and five in the reserve as of late.

The Imperial Guard:
4 Grenadier Regiments
2 Jaeger Regiments

1 Hussar Regiment
1 Dragoon Regiment
1 Lancer Regiment
3 Curiasser Regiments

Reserves:
The reserves are composed of two main parts:
The Infantry Reserve, which is mostly Line infantry not currently on active duty, and the Cossacks. Cossacks compose a force mostly made up of cavlary. Most Cossack tribes are excempt from all taxes in the Empire on the condition that they provide military support when the Tsar requests.
Cossacks are much feared for their prowess as light cavalry and as raiders/guerillas. Cossacks go into battle carrying an almost comical amount of weaponry. An average loadout includes:
A eight-foot lance
A saber
Two throwing axes
Up to eight pistols
A carbine
A bow and up to three quivers of arrows
Various knives, throwing and otherwise

A few Cossack bands, such as the Don Cossack, have gained enough prestige to be admitted into the formal Army. The Don Cossacks in particular gained enough favor with the Emperor at one point to be allowed to commit a regiment to the Imperial Guard.

The Infantry reserve is a different matter. Theoreticaly, every male within the Empire is required to own a weapon for military use. The definition of 'weapon' in some cases has been stretched beyond all imagining. Many 'weapons' are essentially occupation tools tied to poles, or used on their own. Which is not to say that a 300lb butcher wielding dual cleavers is a sight any soldier wants to see on a battlefield, but it detracts somewhat from the overall image of soldiers.
Typically, on being called up, infantry reserves are divided into two parts. The part which is equipped with muskets, state contributed or otherwise, is given a quick 'warm up' training period of two weeks to a month, depending on the urgency of the situation, while the part with less traditional weapons are immidiatly sent to the front after a basic course in battlefield commands.
